Anyone else going to the note 2? - HTC Rezound

I love my rezound, but after going through the Droid Inc, Thunderbolt and now the Rezound, with crazy problems on all of them, im pretty much done with HTC. I also got tired of Sense after having it for so long. Also, 5.5" screen cannot be denied. Note 2 was announced this morning for mid november on all carriers, so im getting a white 16 note 2 at launch.

sweet. i'm gonna hold out and get that new big HTC that may be announced today

Ima wait for the dlx

Yeah I'm considering the note 2, esp since htc announced a windows phone instead of something nice for android

5.5" is way too freaking big for a phone that I carry around all the time. If I need that much screen real estate, I'll get get out the 7" tab. 4.3" is just right.
Plus Samsung radios = fail, and VZW Note 2 bootloader = locked.

Personally I think it would be nice to have but would not want something that big in my pocket. It would look strange on my belt...

Its hardly too big, its just a tiny bit bigger then the rezound, the bezel is very tiny on it. Also, the radios on the S3 are great, you must be thinking of the Nexus which had very poor radios. And the locked bootloader on the S3 for Verizon took a week to crack, on the rezound, 5-6 months for S-Off and you had to short your phone and possibly brick it.
I think ill take my chances with samsung personally.

Well, first of all, S-OFF is not related to unlocking the bootloader. I could still do everything I want to do on this phone without it being S-OFF...it just makes things a bit easier, and I can unlock the Rezound through an official method, where everything with with the Samsung locked bootloaders is a hacky workaround, all which they've no doubt closed in the Note 2 bootloader (if they're at all smart).
As for the size, I've held an original Note, and it's too freaking big. The Note 2 is even bigger. Samsung has a long history of crappy radios. The Fascinate, the Charge, the Nexus, etc. It's going to take time for me to trust them again on that front.
Also, put me in the minority, but I do not like OLED screens. They don't look subjectively better than the newest LCD's, and they have very questionable durability, particularly for someone like me who uses their phone as a navigation system, in car media player, and a desk clock. I log a lot of screen on time and in less than a year, my Charge had significant pixel fade that would simply not occur on an LCD.

I think I'll eventually get a Note-like phone. I like the larger screen real estate.

I'm picking up the note 2 unless something else blows my mind. I am kind of upset with htc's update speeds on stuff, but they still make super solid phones. I really like the phablet design so put me in that minority.

That made me laugh. Samsung is no better. They're no worse, but they're no better either. The reality is that the real holdup in getting updates to the phone is usually Verizon, and there's nothing any of the manufacturers can do about that. If it's not a flagship phone, VZW isn't going to be breaking a sweat getting an update out for it.

Locked boot loader is it for me. If I can't flash ROMs then it isn't worth it.

its up there for me. either the DIX/DLX or note 2. about the locked bootloader, i kinda like touchwiz DONT KILL ME. but the DIX/DLX with most likely be locked also. itll be like the dinc4g LTE.

No DLX though I'm getting the S3. IDK if the Note2 will have many devs. The only reason the GS3 got it is because everyone and their mother devs for it. They had a 4000$ bounty going. I need AOKP
Same with the DLX. I want the phone with the best specs, battery life, and dev support. Yeah, I'm a dev, but a lot of the time I don't even run my own roms.

I wont buy it because that screen is too damn big. Might as well buy a nexus 7..in which case I did lol

I just compared the width of Note 2 with my Rezound, it would be too wide for my taste.
I think 4.6"~4.8" screen with small bezel would be great for me.

Nope. It's just too damn big.
Was really hoping HTC would announce a reasonable upgrade from the Rezound at the big press event today. Instead we get Windows phones. No thanks.
And by the way..... REALLY, HTC? Windows phones?

I'm leaning towards that new LG phone as my next device..

Although I totally agree Verizon holds up the line on some of this stuff. I still think HTC likes to plays the hold an update to get people to want a new phone especially by doing the sense 3.6 thing. I'm not mad at them its all business I just want a phablet, who knows though if there are no devs I may have to hold out.

[Q] for all the HTC fanboys & girls.

Since I went android, I've had nothing but HTC phones. I loved my Eris, incredible, & now thunderbolt. I've been following up on all these tech news, and I am starting to get curious of other phones. So my question to you all is, what phone would you guys consider outside of HTC? I've been following up on the 5" Samsung galaxy q that we only have rumors about, mainly because it has a bigass screen and I currently don't own a tab. If it had usb host mode then it would be a no brainer for me. I'm sold. But I looove HTC tho. I wish they could make a 5" phone/tab.

More screen to hide a REAL battery beneath though. Still, I'm not a fan of looking like a world-class dork holding a phone nearly the width of a 2x4 to my head for a call. Not to mention it probably looks about as garish as a Desert Eagle strapped to your side beneath a shirt or jacket. Who was it that made that phone/tab thing that was just HUGE? Dell, I think it was. Too massive to be a good phone, too dinky to be a good tablet... The only thing to out-class it in "WEIRD..." is that frankenphone Kyocera makes with the unfold-expand-"I'm a Nintendo DS Android!" thing.
That said, I'm a Samsung fan in all reality. Up until I went BlackBerry, that's all I would buy. And then Samsung met Android and began gene splicing with... SOMETHING... and I do NOT like it. It's the digital equivalent of a butterface. It's all sexy and smooth inside and out, but then you look at the screen and say "oh dear... there's NO way I'm gonna live with that hook-nose, acne-scarred, Jay Leno chinned monstrosity of a UI. The ONLY thing worse than AOSP and it's mutant launchers, in my opinion, is WizTouch, or whatever it's called. That would disappear from any Samsung I owned within hours.
As for Motorola... I'll quote myself. "There's some boner-inducing devices". Quirky TI CPUs that leave you asking "Where's the GHz?", pale and pasty screens, Motorola's world-famous garbage radios, E-Fuse, and a LONG history of making some of the worst phones ever. Any Motorola is the last device I'd own.
LG... At least they didn't try to be original and fail. Looks like ADW on AOSP mostly. More junk radios though.
I'm sure most didn't see it coming 5 or 6 years ago, but HTC does seem to be where it's at, with Samsung on their heels. Now if Samsung would just ramp up capacity on those AMOLED screens and outsource them again, little puppies wouldn't have to die.

I might be wrong, but I thought there was already a 5" samsung on ATT. If so I would agree you better try holding up to your ear and putting in your pocket before you sink money into buying it. Trying it there right now would be a good sign whether you should forget about buying it whenever it comes to verizon.
I'm guessing none of you are big guys, I'm 6'2" and I have large hands and 4.3" phones are a little small when in landscape and typing. Another 1/4-1/2" would be perfect for me, while others still think a 3.7" screen is the sweet spot. Also you have to keep in mind that the rumor is that these new phones with larger screens have smaller bezels.

Lol. U guys are a trip. I'm 6"2 but I do feel like my thunderbolt is kinda adequately sized. But I'm a photographer, I like to view my images on something other than my camera when I'm nowhere near my imac. I don't own a laptop. And the tablet market has not caught up with the multimedia market yet. But I'm aware some phones and tablets have usb hosting mode. So a phone/tablet would be ideal. 5.3" screen would be an adequate in-between size for tablet and phone use imo. But the idea of usb host is what would sell me on something like that. It may not even be a possibility for that matter so... Well just have to wait n see.

I have to use an AT&T phone for work so I chose the Atrix...it's pretty decent since it got updated to 2.3.4 but the UI is absolute garbage. It's snappy like I want it to be, but you are exactly right about the colors on the screen being incredibly muted. At the end of the day though I am quite happy to switch to my bolt.
I have been a bit curious about the Bionic that seems like it may actually be coming out soon-ish. If they did something about the terrible color quality it could potentially be worth looking into. My wife just got a Droid 3 because she refuses to have a phone without a physical keyboard...it's not terrible. Haven't played with it too much, but from what I have played with I wasn't too disappointed with.
I'd still want to stay away from Moto phones for a while. Any influence google will have over them probably wont happen until the generation after the next so whatever comes out later this year will probably be similar to what Moto has done in the past.

Yeah, I'd say most of what is in the bionic is already set other than some software tweaks they may do. Hopefully it wont have blur on it, but I wouldn't hold my breath since it's a phone that's been in the works for a while.

Some people just want the best hardware build quality and for that you have to get Motorola. As long as the bionic gets rooted I want it. I'm trying to hold out on a replacement phone until it comes out because I won't use LG or Samsung and this is my 4th thunderbolt so my next replacement they will replace with a different 4g phone. The thunderbolt has good software, with its bugs but all phones do, and the BAMF roms are great but the poor build quality of these phones is something I'm not gonna deal with anymore. I've played with a incredible and it seemed much better in terms of quality so I wouldn't write off HTC phones like I have LG and Samsung, I just think its because they rushed to get a 4g phone out.

Sorry man... I'm just gonna have to disagree with you on the whole Motorola build quality thing. I've gone though so many of those phone it's not even funny. The electronics and radios they use are garbage. My dad had a thing for Motorola for some ungodly reason and had these things laying around all over the place. Every time I activated one to give to someone it either buzzed so loud you couldn't hear anything, the mic would just randomly die, the controls didn't work/respond, the displays looked like crap, and without a single exception, NONE of them had a radio in them worth a damn. I couldn't even call into customer service to complain because the POS wouldn't work on the switchboard! Totally and completely worthless devices that couldn't so much as hold a signal to receive a text while I'd be on my Samsung chatting away. They sold those POS Razr's like crack to addicts, but they were garbage! Now my buddy has a DX that flips on and off, hangs up in calls, just stops responding, and goes and does stuff all by itself. Surprised? I wasn't. Pretty par for the course given what I've seen Motorola crank out for the last 6 years. I told the last guy who tried selling me on a Motorola that he'd have an easier time selling condoms in a convent. It's not often I hate on a product or company this much, but honestly, if they were giving Bionics away for free I STILL wouldn't activate one on one of my lines.

DX2 Users looking to upgrade

Just wondering what phones X2 owners were looking at for when their upgrade rolls around. I was thinking about the nexus or the S2. Not sure yet. I'm eligible for an early upgrade and I have no idea what phone I should get. I like rooting my device and playing around with it, so probably something that doesn't have a locked bootloader. I like the X2 because it's completely touchscreen, I hate the slideout keyboards. Then again I might wait to see what comes out in the next 3 months I have left on my contract. What are your thoughts? What do you guys want next?

^ Agree with these guys. If you upgrade now, I would go with either the HTC Rezound or Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I just traded my iPhone (wasn't using it) for a Nexus, then gave the Nexus to my friend. I must admit... it is gorgeous. But if you decide to wait, I think the Galaxy SIII or the HTC One X would be aaaaahhhhmazing.
S3 looks like it may not be all that hot. Some say its a little upgrade, who knows. I can upgrade whenever thanks to my BBB complaint. Ill wait to see how that phone comes out then ill upgrade to Rezound or that. Nexus looks great but battery is terrible even the extended is crap. I'll take a 13nm phone with a 2750 battery over one that doesnt do much.
Verizon was dumb for not grabbing the note... Journal is a horrible name but I would have loved to switch for one, played with one for about half an hour... Its amazing even on stock and this screen is now way way to small, the note comes close to being the right size for my hand its barely to small bit if it comes to verizon its gonna be to late, A 5.6in screen with a trident style case is now my hope for the future. I got a Dinc2 as a replacement for the X2 3 weeks ago. I will not go back to a locked phone again, I love this thing and I love HTC's build quality. If I stick with Verizon I'll be looking at a rezound this fall, should be cheap to upgrade to by then.

Not sure what i'll get but I'm hoping there will be more architecture similar to the 3 in 1 Asus Padphone.
Yea I'm waiting for May 3rd to see GS3 and then go from their. To me its ALL about the battery, here's to something that's over 2200 or whatever they think it is. A non removable phone that has THST LOW of a battery is laughable for those specs. I don't think many would deny that.

What is the likelihood of we getting a S3 this summer? I was (and still am a little) skeptical of the Big Red getting the SIII... Yep, it's getting to the point that I don't care how good they're damn network is if the phones are so overloaded with crap and bugs that they won't run right the network is useless.
I got a pair of Dinc2's as a replacement for mine and my wife's X2's. She wanted to run stock for awhile. She doesn't use many apps, mostly FB, words with friends, couple of games. But she's on the phone constantly. Well the one thing that should work is the damn phone, and while it does its just not laid out well. However she is constantly getting force closes, has to manually sync her email, stuff like that.
I'm done with big red when this contract is up I think. The network is great and they're customer service has been great, but every phone has been ****. I shouldn't have to hack a phone and load a custom Rom just to make it operate correctly and reliably, it should do that out of the box. Only reason I should have to hack it is because I want to play with it, customize it to my liking. NOT TO MAKE IT JUST WORK THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO.
Verizon can kiss my ass.

My wife's Rezzie got stolen the other night, and we need to get another phone this weekend. Don't want to spend more than $199 (we'll utilize an upgrade). That limits us to:
Samsung S III
Moto Razr HD
LG Spectrum 2
Moto Razr M
And, of course, another Rezzie for $50. Low cost is a factor, but we don't want to get stuck with older technology, either. We do root our phones, which may rule out the Spectrum 2 -- I can't seem to find any root or dev support for the phone. The HTC DNA looks terrific, but is really big and will need a few weeks to be rooted.
Open to suggestions on which way we ought to go.
Much appreciated...
How about the incrediable 4g, they just now got root

I'd say the DNA if you want another HTC phone. Even though root isn't possible right now, patience will prevail with this phone. I'm not a fan of Motorola and usually feel the same about Samsung, but the s3 is just too damn sexy.
So my vote is DNA or S3.
BTW, have you tried using Plan B to find your wife's phone?

Realistically speaking, its never going to be a rooted phone since its your wife's's phone. I would say either the razr M because its DURABLE or the S3 due to its "wow" factor. But if your tight on money, why not another rezound?
If it was my girlfriend, I would let her play with the phones at the store and let her decide.

I would go with the htc DNA, and I would either put plan b or avast antivirus with anti theft on it so I could retrieve my phone or at least render it useless to the losers that stole it.

Do you know his wife or are you just making a sexist presumption about all women?
I would stick with a phone that has a removable battery and an SD card slot since it seems that makes all this rooting etc. easier and also because you can put in a 64gb card and have tons of music and podcasts on it. I had to replace my Rezzy without an upgrade option or insurance or warranty (cracked screen) and opted for buying a used Rez. I know I'll be happy with this for a few more years, but I don't have that need to always have the latest technology, especially when it's already so good on phones, and I would have lost my unlimited plan. I did play with the GS3 and it's pretty nice. I prefer an LCD screen though as I'm planning on keeping my phone for a while and I've read about the Super Amoled screen degrading over time.
So also depends on how long she might be keeping the phone and if you will be losing an unlimited plan as well.

Well for one, hes posting on these forums instead of his wife. I am talking based on a simple observation, never said "all" women. Plenty of wormen are on these forums but I am not here to argue.

The DNA has root.
Doesn't have S-Off.
As for new phones, removable batteries and sd card slots will be rare.
Also, put avast on your phones.
Went with a SGIII
Thanks all for the suggestions. We had to get a phone quickly, since we'd frozen my wife's line as soon as we realized the phone was stolen and not lost. Both of us needed our phones for business, and we were about to head out of town.
That took the DNA off the table right there. It wouldn't be available until after we left, and VZW insists on shipping Web orders directly to our house. No one by our names there to sign for it until next week (we have a house sitter). Plus the DNA is just too big.
Also looked at the Razr M (screen too small) and the Razr HD (screen the same size as the Rezzie, but phone much larger). The SGIII is only marginally larger, but the screen is much bigger -- easier for our middle aged eyes.
The local store had the Rezzie in stock, but they wanted $200 for it. Online, it's $50, but the same delivery problem would be there that we'd have for the DNA. Not worth that much money for a year-old phone.
No devs support the Spectrum 2. Plus it's huge. No go.
In terms of features and newest technology for the price, that left us with the SGIII. So far so good. It has its quirks, and we swapped out the launcher immediately. But the initial overall impression is good.

Not happy with phone anyone?

Is there anyone that has purchased the galaxy note 2 that is not happy at all and wished that they had never purchased it? Just wandering, I know 4 people that have the phone and they all love it. Hopefully I will get one soon.

The only major complaint I've heard are people that couldn't get used to the size of the phone, and also having a locked bootloader.
Not even close! Best phone I've ever had. If anyone regrets this phone (except for the size) have no business having an android smart phone! Couldn't have picked out anything better!

Nope, I'm loving this thing more and more. I love the size and the specs. I always thought that 5 inch and over was way too big but damn this thing is nice. My own little tablet. Already rooted it and flashed the Beans Rom and now I gotta unlock the bootloader. Can't wait for more custom roms to come out. The only thing I'm gonna regret is when the Galaxy Note 3 comes out cause I'm gonna have to find money to fork out for that one. Lol

I actually bought the Note 2 presuming I would be returning it since I had already purchased the DNA at full price(to keep unlimited data). I figured I'd bring it home, check it out and return it. About 6 hours in to using it I knew I was going to keep it. Just something about it grew on me.
My poor brand new DNA has sat unused ever since. I still keep it because I love Sense so I will use it once in awhile but the Note 2 is just so freaking fun and useful.
No regrets.

I love the size when using the phone or looking at the screen. I miss being able to text one handed. I'm a bigger guy 6'2" with big hands but one handed operation is pretty much impossible unless you got hands like Lebron James. It seems to fit in my pocket fine (I wear Levi's 501's everyday) and the rounded shape makes it slide in and out easily but it has some heft and you do know its there in your pocket. Everything else is a quantum leap ahead of my Droid X (hardware, software, battery life, etc.). I think it will be getting used to the size. I remember when I got my Droid X it seemed huge and now it looks teeny compared to the Note.
My sister took hers back for the iphone 5... She couldn't deal with the size.. Me personally I'm wondering what will come out to make me want to give this device up. So far it's beyond my fav. Phones of the past

I'm loving this thing, I've had a non-stop chub ever since it arrived I have big hands and it fits in my pocket, so no issues here.
Who wouldn't love this thing ? This is my 4th Android phone and by far it's the best device I've had to date ... Keeper for sure
I love this phone more and more every day! The size of it isn't necessarily a pro nor is it s con. But the only issue I have is the phone is slippery. ..and I don't want a case because I don't want to add any additional size to this already monstrous phone. ..

It's funny, but I loved it the first few days then began having second thoughts because of the size. But that was also about the time I bought a Speck case for it that added a lot to the thickness. Bought a thinner case a few days ago and now I am back to being a big fan. I was at a meeting all last week and I was using the phone to take notes all day, no need to carry around little notebooks or paper pads. I stopped by the VZW store to look at the DNA and realized there was no way I could go back to just a normal phone, especially when the DNA is not that much smaller than the GN2.
I love my GIANT phone.

i concur!
It's the Android phone that I've always wanted that I thought would never exist. And more. I never thought I'd use a stylus but the features that this thing has makes it unbelievable in the smartphone arena. I still don't use it enough because I'm always moving around but the stylus would make a good addition to any handheld device as an added option.
And I thought I'd never ever finaly see a build more stable and smooth n buttery as Android 4.0+ they're really and truly giving ios a run for their money. I don't think I'll ever get an iphone.
Right now I'm debating on whether I should root or not. I've rooted in the past with my previous devices because I wanted it to perform better. With this phone there isn't many reasons to. I don't want to flash a rom on this device that would break certain features. But I think I'm gonna root to just be able to utilize certain Mods like having all apps with multi Window support and more grid space. That's it. Lol. So when I get rooted in gonna stick with a rom that's as close to stock as possible.

bootloader

Is the bootloader still being worked on? It seems like everyone has given up, so I was just wondering if there's any recent positive news on it.
Nope Samsung and Verizon have been doing their homework lately. It'll be pretty hard from now on with Samsung devices if they really got this bootloader situation down.

I'll be bummed if they don't find a way in the 2 years I have this phone, but hey I'll get over it when my next device is going to be a Nexus. I'll never buy locked down ever again. But hey, at least we have Safestap! It's great we at least have SOME options to mess around even with this bootloader crap
That is true! very grateful for safe strap, honestly. I just can't believe how hard it is to crack this damn boot loader! I might go pick up a nexus, or even a failphone 5. I love Samsung, but not so much after this.

You're going to complain about Samsung devices being locked down and go buy an iPhone?
Nexus 5 is the way to go for real freedom (without have to spend tons of money on 'dev' editions). Only problem is you won't be on Verizon's network with a Nexus phone that's for sure. Oh and I heard the HTC One's bootloader just got cracked? If that's true you might want to do that if you want to stay on Verizon.
I'm thinking about getting a one. I just dont know about the battery life. Wish it had expandable memory. I was just gonna get an iphone 4s for a month until I do my research on something else.

Battery life is not bad... it should get you through a day of moderate use, but with heavy use you'll probably need a second charge... keep in mind that the Verizon version of the One removed the power saving mode thing for no good reason so technically the Verizon One will have worse battery life than others... but of course with custom roms you should be able to fix that.
Another thing to keep in mind is if you're in weak signal area the One won't be that great as the metal body makes reception not as good as the S4 or other plastic body phones. Also the GPS is better on the S4.
It is very hard to believe that the booloader will not be unlocked anytime soon on this phone. I love it so much!!!
