I'm currently on TMobile's prepaid $30 plan, unlimited data and texts, 100 minutes. If I put my sim card in an iPhone 4s, everything would be fine except for the settings for MMS, etc? Obviously, it has to be unlocked, etc.
Would I have to do this everytime I swap the sim between both phones?
Thanks guys!

iPhone requires a microSIM card. The amaze is regular SIM.
Also the iPhone wouldn't work at all without the device being sim unlocked to begin with and the data/mms will work fine once the appropriate apn settings are applied.
You can see if the Gevey sim would work for you and cut the sim down which you would need a micro to regular sim adapter. I use it with me amaze n have no issues.

Not trying to start anything but why would you choose an iPhone over the Amaze? Unless its not completely changed...

Thanks for the responses
Thanks for the replies guys. I forgot to add that I do know about the phone being factory unlocked, etc, hehe.
As for why the iPhone over the Amaze? I actually like the best of both worlds between Android and IOS. Also, am looking into possibly doing the Straight Talk plan, and I would be able to use it on both phones since its running on AT&T's towers, and I would be able that sim card on both Amaze and iPhone.

Hey all, not exactly a Thunderbolt specific question, but hopefully one some of you are familiar with. I have several Android devices, and before my Bolt, I switched between them quite regularly. However, after getting my T-bolt and unlimited 4g data, I have not swapped devices as all of my others are 3G only. Recently, though, I have been itching to use some of my other devices, but not sure if it is a viable option anymore.
What worries me is, first, switching between a 4g and 3g device. I do not want to lose my unlimited 4g data obviously. Anyone know if my plan will stay intact so I can switch back to my Thunderbolt? Secondly, from what I have heard, the Thunderbolt uses a one-time-use SIM card, which becomes useless after becoming deactivated. I have also read some people saying that Verizon will give me a new SIM card, free of charge, if I want to re-activate my Thunderbolt.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this situation, or could answer any of my questions. I really like my Thunderbolt, but want to use some of my older Android devices as well since I've got them. Thanks.
You are correct. Once you switch to a 3G phone the sim card for your TB is deactivated and you'll need to get a new one for the TB to switch back. I know you can get them free from corp VZW stores. I've switched back to a 3g phone a few times and my plan with unlimited data didn't change.
Alright just to be clear, I can use the sim card that I have in my Thunderbolt in a 3G device, for example a Droid 3, but if I want to use my Thunderbolt again, I'd have to get a new 4G sim card from Verizon? And nothing changes, in regard to my plan, technically I still have 4G service just using 3G?

No, the 4G sim can only be used in a 4G device. And with the Droid 3 you wouldn't have 4G service as that is not a 4G LTE enabled phone. But regardless, you will still keep the unlimited data plan.

It's worth a try to switch w/o killing the SIM card.
as the others were saying, it will have no effect whatsoever on your plan. you'll just need to get another sim card once you switch back which they'll do for free at any Verizon store.
I know because I went from a Thunderbolt to an Incredible 2, back to a Thunderbolt again.
Got a lot of conflicting info on this.
1.Are different sims given for smart vs dumbphones? 3G vs 4G? Etc
Ie: will a smartphone not access 4g on a GoPhone sim?
2.Can a Rep on the phone identify your phone by the imei?
Thank you for any enlightening!
I may be wrong but I think the gophone sim works differently than a regular sim, there are att sims that say 3g but they work just the same as the new sim cards att is using, as far as the rep being able to tell ur phone make and model by the imei that's a yes for sure, they can detect what phone you have without you giving them that info and slap the $25 2gb data plan on your account.

To put it simply- if the network system knows that X phone has X IMEI or even model code it shows when it connects (I777 vs say I9100) and its endorsed by them, then they'll know what it is.
Do you want to know this to avoid paying ridiculous data fees? If so, get an international unlocked/unbranded phone that your carrier never had/in their system. I've been milking dumbell data rates on my Nokia E series phones for years now and not because I use the balls out of the data, but to have that unlimited/cheap peace of mind.
When I upgraded from my Captivate to the SGS2, the AT&T clerk said I needed the 4G sim card and installed one.

I received the same treatment. With my last five phones, I've only been able to swap out the SIM cards twice — once because I bought a phone on Craigslist.
Really? I'm still on my, what is it, 4-5 year old 3G sim and no problems whatsoever.

I was on my old 3g Sim card as well but when i got the sgsii it wouldn't connect to the "phone" APN, i had to use the old "wap.cingular" APN. The old 3g Sims aren't provisioned on AT&T's network to access hspa.
Before getting a new Sim card, i would never get over 3Mbps down. Now i average 5 and on good days it'll peak to 7-10.
to answer the question about different Sim cards for smart phones or dumb phones; pretty sure they use the same card because when i went the other day to get a new Sim, the rep just grabbed one from a stack and activated it, there was only one stack. Also it would cost more and bee more confusing for them as company to do that.
And at&t can identify a phone over the network only if that phone is familiar to them. So if you bought an AT&T sgsii off craigslist/ebay/friend and plug in your Sim card, they'll be able to tell.
If you buy a phone that isn't sold/recognized by AT&T, most of the time they can't tell what the device.
A good check is after you put the Sim in your phone, wait a couple hours then log onto your account online and if it shows a picture of the phone your using, they can detect it.

I have this as a gophone. They gave me a normal sim card not the go phone sim card. It has hspa + also.

Well sim doesn't really determine what your plan allows you to do, so sims are dime a dozen. I may consider upgrading my sim if they'll be able to put my current number on a newer sim, else I'm not really concerned too much. (and, for your laughs, I'm still only using Edge to avoid having gutter battery).

this is only partly true. IF you have a att phone they can detect what type of phone you have by your IMEI #. that number is cataloged in their systems however if you have a European phone or a unlocked phone from another carrier then no they cannot tell what phone you have.
as for sims there are 2 different types of sims (go phones I dont know) there is the regular sized sims and the micro sims. Micro's for att are used for iphone 4 and up and I believe they are the only phone for att that uses the micro sim. As for functionality of the sims no the old sims (3G) work with thier HSPA+ just the same.....

Same thing when I upgraded. But my sim was a few years old and pretty scratched up from being put in different phones so I figured even if it would work it was time to be replaced anyway.
When I bought the sgs2 the clerk was surprised I still had my Cingular Sim card and suggested I get the new one. I got to keep my Cingular relic.

The only problem I've run into is my mms stopped working a few days after using the phone and I'm on a gophone account. My inspire works fine. Not sure if they ran an imei sweep and the sgii doesnt play nice with gophone accounts. They still had my imei as an old nokia flip phone. You don't have to have data on a gophone, but if you want internet you'll need to buy a gophone data package.
You mean you need an unlimited $50 type GoPhone account right? No one needs a data account above and beyond that.
I bought a cheap GoPhone $50 plan today...using that sim in my Note AI get tomorrow.

I'm getting my Note tomorrow, can I just plug the sim from my 4S into the Note and have it work?
I ordered the note with the smallest data plan and have unlimited on my iPhone, so really wanted to try out the data speeds but know that I will burn through the plan allotment pretty quickly.
Thanks!

One option is to transfer the service on the iphone to the note. Otherwise there isn't much you can do.
Do they make SIM adapters like they do for SD cards? I don't actually have a microSIM but it seems like it should be fairly easy to make a tray that you can put your microSIM in that would fit in a full-size SIM slot.

You have two problems:
1. Your iPhone 4s has a micro SIM. Note takes normal sized SIM IIRC. Without an adapter, your micro SIM won't fit.
2. You will need to upgrade your iPhone data plan to LTE data plan before you will be able to use LTE data speeds. Otherwise, it won't connect at all.

Is #2 true? I was told by 2 different online reps and the in store rep that I would be able to keep my unlimited data plan that I've had since my iphone 3g?
You will need the adapter for your current micro SIM to put it into your GNote. It will work for phone calls and probably data but not LTE. If I put a regular 3G SIM into my skyrocket it works or even a t mobile it will still work even though it is EDGE. (My skyrocket is unlocked). Just as when I put my SIM which is provisioned for LTE into my International GNote it works fine on HSPA+.
I would get the adapter and try it. Ultimately you would need a LTE provisioned SIM card for LTE.

Yes you will be grandfathered into an unlimited LTE plan, but it is different than the 3g unlimited plan you have for the iphone.

You can keep your unlimited data but they need to make a change to your plan so that it is good for LTE access. It isn't likely to be a problem, but the usual recommendation is that you call them and tell them to change your plan to unlimited LTE data BEFORE you put your SIM in the Note. Once the SIM is in the Note, they might automatically change your plan, and if that removes the unlimited part, you'll have to at least go through extra rigamarole in order to get it back.
Ok, I have an iPhone 4. I did the upgrade path to the Note.
So what do I do, just turn on the Note and let it activate itself or something, and then call ATT?
Anyone want to clarify the steps to take for us clueless iPhone switchers?
Thanks for the updates on the transfer of my current unlimited plan to an LTE unlimited plan. I looked at the website again, and now see an option for an unlimited LTE plan for the same price I'm paying now. I swear I didn't see that the few times I tried to pre order earlier in the week from the website, and neither of the reps I talked to on online chat, or on the phone were able to tell me this. Should have posted here earlier lol.
Any idea when my order would ship if I ordered it tonight or tomorrow? Curious if it would actually ship tomorrow for a Monday arrival? It no longer predicts the shipping date as it did earlier in the week. Curious if I should try my luck at a store on Sunday, or order one and hope for a Monday (or maybe Saturday) delivery.
Nah it wont work
Fortunately I have a Micro Sim Adapter, so should be good to go. Looks like I have some experimenting to do.
I also still have my iPad unlimited 3G sim that I was going to try just so that it works for data.

Same deal. You have to upgrade your iPad 3G data plan to LTE (you get keep the unlimited) before you can use it on LTE. All LTE phones use a new APN which requires your data plan have the LTE feature code. Otherwise, it won't connect at all. Call AT&T anytime, either before or after you inserted the old SIM to your phone. If you don't have the LTE data plan, the phone just won't be able to connect to the data.
So far a no go. Sim works, although it's tricky with the adapter the way the sim slots in there, kinda likes to get stuck.
No data, called AT&T and there were no help, basically said I needed a different new card as the one from the iPhone 4S wouldn't work.
My sim adapter cracked, I carefully just placed the micro sim, no adapter, into where the sim goes and it's been working fine

Your Inspire SIM is 4G, right? Could you ask them for an LTE SIM for the Inspire and then see if it works with the Note. (I assume it will.) GoPhone doesn't have any LTE SIM option right now, correct? Thanks.
Somewhat different, but I have an H20 prepaid SIM I use in my AT&T Note while travelling. No data is available, but voice calls and SMS work just fine.
A thought
Has anyone tried to create a non lte apn and get data working with a non lte sim. I have an lte sim but had created a non lte apn and was using that since there is no lte in Omaha yet.
Cheers.

First off, welcome to XDA.
Yes. You can use a go phone SIM card with the AT&T Note. But I can't personally recommend it.
Just tell a rep that you need a new SIM card (full sized) and they'll give you one. With a go phone account, you may need to bring your LG phone into the store if your name isn't on the account.
As for getting the phone to work properly. There are a few tricks. One that I haven't personally tried is wiping the EFS folder to give the phone a "generic IMEI".
There are a lot of great tutorials for getting most Androids to work with go phone service on XDA. Just keep in mind your data speeds will not be good. (I believe you will be throttled to 1mb dl)
Of course, if you can! I have it so! and I works great but it must be with a new sim card and prepaid active. You can also change the vpn! I did and it works fine!

I too am rocking my note on a Nokia E71 StraightTalk SIM. (I did this before they started selling the SIM's by themselves). Works like a charm and I have H+ data just like I did on my Infuse.
I have a HTC Rezound grandfathered into Verizon's unlimited plan. I got it replaced when it dropped in water and they sent me a new SIM card along with the replacement phone.
The new phone has my old SIM card, and I'm wondering if I could put in the new SIM they sent me into a 4G wifi device. Would this give me unlimited on my phone and the MIFI at the same time? I'm assuming it's essentially a clone of my old SIM.
It sounds a little too easy, so I'm not expecting anything. But thanks to anyone with knowledge of this.
