Is it possible? I'm not rooted.
Will Mobile ODIN work?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes. That's what Mobile Odin is. :good:
You cannot use it, however, unless you are rooted.
Well I just got stock and Messaging isn't working everytime I reboot my S3 it says messaging stopped, I'm sure I installed the correct firmware and now there are lots of things missing.

If you want help, more details specifically related to your issue are best.
What ROM are you using? If an app is force closing, the first step would be to clear the app data in settings app management and reboot.
If you just updated, it's best to do a reset, because it clears out all the old junk left behind by the old ROM.

Visual Voicemail freezes my phone for about 60 seconds, then a message pops up, " Unfortunately visual voicemail has stopped."
This has also happened with a couple other apps which i can't remember exactly which ones atm.
Anyone else experience this or have advice on how to fix?
I'm experiencing the same problems since I upgraded to Samsung official ICS rom and rooted it. My Google apps are unstable and force closing all the time and making my phone ridiculously slow cause it waiting for it to respond which never happened.

All stock, no rom, flash or root.
Tx ---art.
Since you're rooted. You must have CWM. Go in recovery(Google the steps), wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and fix permissions.
Then you should be good

My settings keep force closing on me whenever I try to click on something to get more information. For example when I went to motion and clicked the smart alert button to learn more it would freeze and then force close on me every time. Is anybody else experiencing this? I'm on stock rooted rom.
(Also the xda premium app force closes a lot too.. Just a side note.)

boot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache and that should fix it. Also, what rooted rom are you running?
I pretty much on stock rooted rom, it's actually Whitehawks debated stock rom. And all I did was flash that rom and use Robinsons aroma debloater full debloat. That was a long time back and then I just installed my regular market apps. The setting things I just noticed a couple days back. I didn't go into settings much. Gapps also frequently force closes too, I don't know what's causing it.
The xda force close is because I think something is wrong with the app. I saw reviews on play saying the same thing.
But yeah I didn't mess with freezing or un installing with tit bacmup.
I'll try and do the dalvik wipe and see what happens.

Tried doing the dalvik and cache wipe problem persists. The settings just force close when I learn more about smart alert and like try it and others like it, also on phone status. It just bugs me.
I really don't want to wipe and install again

So, every time my phone restarts or reboots the XDA developer app that I have installed deletes itself completely off of my phone. I just performed a factory reset hoping it fixed all the issues but it hasn't. Is it the app or my phone? I don't get it. The XDA icon.stays in the folder but if I click on it all it says is the app is not installed...
Also, my ringtone and notification sounds reset after a restart...
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda app-developers app
That sounds like a phone thing. How apps and settings are getting installed and removed upon a reboot (or crash?) I'm not sure, but definitely not normal.
I got a replacement phone and both of these issues are still there. It must be the software. Can anyone install the XDA Developers app from Google Play, restart and then see if it deleted itself? There's no way I just got two buggy phones. I reported these issues to HTC.

Hey everyone,
I have a unlocked O2 phone it seems, on Monday I tried rom'ing it to Jelly bean.. I found a decent rom from the Internet and went ahead with the firmware update. The firmware turned out to be the most basic of basic jelly bean builds... I couldn't even sign in with my Google account...? So I wanted to restore it.
I found another rom and rooted it first etc but after this one installed it kept looking the Samsung start up logo.. Looked up the symptoms and it seems a mild form of bricked. So I went into recover mode and did a data wipe and restore.
When it restored it booted up and now I had jelly beans with all my old settings and it even started to download my apps etc. Great I thought just what I wanted but I have no idea how it's done this.
Anyways... Been playing on it for about an hour now and it seems dead slow. I've cleared the cache and cleared all recent apps and I'm running at 86% ram capacity it seems. Is this normal when no apps are open? Opening my contacts seems to take a good second or two to open. It never did this on ics.
Any ideas anyone? I've attached a screen shot for illustration.
Thank you in advance.

That's what happens when we don't do FULL wipe. Search megawipe and use before flashing roms.

No.
Do not use megawipe, superwipe or bullish*t-stupidwipe.
They are not necessary, juts wipe cache, dalvik and system before flashing a ROM.
That is all.
@OP
Get rid of that damn monitoring app, don't use task killers or any other pointless apps.

Back up just using the feature in the recovery mode or use something like titanium back up?

Flash a current JB from XDA .

I've restored it back to standard firmware on jelly bean but it's still saying I'm using 687 / 833 ram. Is this normal? What do others on here have for there ram availability?

My phone shows 684/833MB RAM but it is very smooth. I let Android do the memory management in my phone. Don't bother myself with shutting down any apps or getting more 'Juice' out of my phone.
Running LJ4 version.
What Rom are you using (version)?

YEs, it is normal.
The motto with Android is that "unused RAM is wasted RAM"
The way Android manages RAM has nothing to do with how we are used to see RAM with PCs, since PCs don't cache apps that are not running.
In Android, the apps are cached so they are easier to access the next time you need them. This is specially useful for apps like Contacts, Dialer, etc. Remember that everything in Android is an application.
My phone yesterday had only 80Mb free and yet it was quite snappy, very responsive.
So, in short forget about RAM in Android devices. We gotta get rid of the old paradigm of how RAM works in a tradicional PC.
I want something that feels a bit quicker, can anyone recommend a nice rom that's like stock but lighter? My current model shown below...

I have the same symptoms with stock JB. I updated my G3 via Kies. Any ideas how to speed it up without wiping everything?
You can try Foxhound Rom Essentials Version which has a lot of things removed that aren't needed (Like S Voice, Samsung Apps, Bloatware etc). There's also Hyper Light rom (I think). Have a look in the rom section and look for roms that mention the word light.
I've got a awesome rom installed now... No Samsung crap.
Thanks for all the help peeps.

Hi after I have installed several apps , played with the input and phone languages, installed a new keyboard, and ultimatelly received this "unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" error the effects when I click on an icon on the screen are gone, the wavy effect is just not there and I have searched the whole phone for solution.
R: [Q] No effects when clicking on a desktop icon
The several apps right there might be a problem...or the rom is buggy (many are).
So tell us what rom it is, what android v, what apps youve installed that required root access.and if youve modded.any futher the rom or enabled mods already within the rom.

The rom is the standard one that I reckon comes with the phone.
I haven't had modified anything apart from installing apps and updates.
The phone is not rooted in any way. Nor have I modded or inserted into the rom.
I have updated to jelly beans. And the latest applications I have installed are koffice, swift key, poker stars, and I am quite sure I have been changing settings but nothing visual.

Some of them are, but some I have downloaded in a different way if you know what I mean. Hopefully I haven't caught a virus or something like that. Now, a factory reset will erase all my data right? And what else?

A factory reset is better than resetting a factory i guess....
Factory reset really seems best.
Just make a backup of your apps (use titanium backup) and then restore them
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
that's interesting, because as far as I know, the ripple effect on the desktop (not the lockscreen) is not included in the stock ROM. are you sure you're not talking about the lock screen? you can enable the ripple effect by going to Settings - lock screen
Yeh I am sure. I'm sure that it was there for some time after I have updated the os. Then again I have installed a great deal of software which I think had made my wavy effect disappear?!
And can I do a backup of the apps with no root access I don't think it's a good idea to play an expert and damage the phone beyond repair. Thanks!

Aye, what do I have to do? If you just give me a link to the most current method used, please.
The phone is gt-i9300 international. Thanks!
read the basics
I realise that. But there's a lot of people who suggested all sorts of different ways doing the same thing. All in all if you flash the rom solely don't it enables root privileges in a more effective fashion..? Thanks!

R: [Q] No effects when clicking on a desktop icon
The most effective fashion is the most complete one, not how you do it.
If youre speaking of flashing through odin modified parts of the rom so you can gain root access..then yes thats what i did (just look it up on youtube, make sure you write galaxy s3 international (if international version) and android version of your rom).
If youre speaking of flashing a custom rom which comes with root access already unlocked, you need to have root for that.
Its easy you can find it on google or youtube. Best method for now (or perfectly working one used by the most people) is flashing some stuff through a programm for pc (or mac i think, but im not sure) called odin. Then i advise (once you have root) you boot into the phone and install from the play store rom manager. Thru this app you may install a new recovery (basically safe-partition of disc, think of it as a bios or firmware for a pc. What u need it for is to save ur ass if u f***k up your phone, or to make COMPLETE backup images of your device so that you may restore them later on. It can also be used to flash other recoveries and therefore replace itself, or flash other roms or kernels. Its a MUST HAVE for anybody with root)

use any method, it does not matter at all.
but rooting will not get your ripple effect back. If you said that you had it before you installed something, then factory reset
