PLEASE HE:LP because I LOVE my Atrix!! For the first time, I am stuck. Atrix boots up, screens open, and shortly after it reboots.
The same thing happens even when I start in safe mode.
The last thing I did was move a bunch of apps to the MEDIA AREA. (Is that the /data directory?)
It looks like the phone does not reboot when I remove the sim card.
I am running Droid Explorer on my computer and the computer sees the internal files.
Other than resetting the phone which Id prefer not to do,:good: do I have any options to try and fix this?
I am rooted and running latest OTA 2.3.6.
ANY ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED. !!!!!
THERE IS SOMETHING THAT RUNS THAT MAKES THE PHONE REBOOT AND i DONT KNOW HOW TO FIND WHAT IT IS.
thanks.
Reflash the zip for your favorite rom using Cwm. The files missing will be recreated.

If the phone doesn't reboot with no sim, it could be a bad sim card. Try getting it replaced before you do anything drastic. Its been known to happen and happened to me.

When I put the phone into airplane mode it still reboots so I dont think its the sim but I will go to AT&T tomorrow and try another sim card and see. When I remove the sim and boot up it does not log into the phone network and a lot of processes do not start up. I recently set up GROOVE IP, and used a new VOIP via google and stayed away from my mobile number but I can try unlinking Groove IP and turn off the google link and see what happens. I wish there were a way to record a log using Android Explorer or the phones built in android utility so I can see at which point it reboots.

Thanks.... the phone does not stay on long enough to install or start anything, but Ill look at them. The phone stays on long enough to remove maybe 1 program every 5 reboots or so, even in safe mode. It boots up faster in safe mode, but it turns off quicker too. Ive uninstalled about 5 programs that were on the media area so far. I am thinking there may be more than 1 program that manipulates the notification LED on startup, so that is my next program(s) to try to uninstall. I did get into my startup manager and stopped all newer user apps.
Try flashing a new kernel, i've been though that and faux kernel solved the problem
I had the same thing happen to me.
First thing I had to do is go to a different PC (one running XP)
Try to reload Rom Racer's Recovery thru Fastboot.
After it has flashed it
install the Rom again.
Make sure you do the wipes that the ROM calls for.
It worked for me!
Good Luck!

I took the small OTA last night and have since been having data connection problems as well as noise though the Beats headset while browsing. I am in a great 4G area but I am getting connection timeouts intermittently after my connection goes from indicating 3 bars of 4G then switching to 3 bars of 3G. It takes about 30-60 seconds for the connection to time out. While I'm using the data connection I hear a high pitched buzzing through the headset if I am listening to music or (anything that is sending audio to the headset). It sounds like the radio is creating interference.
Verizon is stumped. I'm sure they'll send out a new device but I would be careful about taking the OTA. Hopefully this is an isolated incident but who knows.
Do an adb backup & back up internal storage. Flash/Confirm stock recovery then in fastboot try a factory reset. Confirm boot and double check data. I remember having to do this when coming from GB firmware to ICS. This might apply for the OTA.
I'll give that a shot and report back...

I can only get data for a few seconds at a time now, so it's worth a try. The buzzing through the headphones while browsing and trying to use the data connection is bizarre.
By the way, all stock here: no root, etc.

Ah ok. Do the ADB backup before factory reset so you don't lose apps and system data.

I'm not sure if your isolated in this, as I have not had the circumstance to be listening and browsing yet, but the OTA is going to happen. You can deffer and deffer but one morning you'll wake up to the result of the OTA. That's just the way they roll. It sometimes sucks when you start reading about all of the bugs people are having, and/or the new problems these "tested" OTAs have.

Not sure what ADB is, but unless it is a root thing which the OP was not, nothing is going to stop you from loosing system or app data. As for just the apps, Google woke up a couple of years back and started saving all of your apps so that re-installing them is a snap. Amazon is doing the same. The nice thing about Google now is they are finally allowing you to delete apps you no longer want in your list. As for apps from other sources I only have two that I have to reinstall from the interweb.
My only question is why does Android not allow you to restore app data? Basically they are forcing people to root to have basic luxuries. Not having to set up 6 emails again and again, not making you sign into all of your personal apps, putting your screens back the way they were when you started. In one thread there was a person who said they actually enjoyed the latter part of that, saying that was how they got out of their rut with their set up. Which I can kind of see with the app installation, but the screen set up is a different story. Revisiting apps and deciding if this is something you really want to keep is one thing, but at the same time if it isn't bothering you, then you're not worried about it.
It's not a root function. Does not require root at all.

And you don't loss your app or system data? I'll have to look at that one.
I've had all sorts of data issues with this update as well (was already kinda crappy after the last update, now it's way worse).
Here's some info on the built in backup for ICS
I can't post links yet but just google "android ics backup" and go to the second link.
When I run it my phone starts then backs up a few gig of data then exits out, no confirmation message but also no error message. I think I'm just going to keep trying until I get two backups that are the same size :-/
Let me ask you this.......
What is your current hboot? Go double check.
What are your radio/baseband versions?

Edit: Thanks to you guys and the RUU, I am now up and running again
Hi all,
This is the first time I have ever heard of something like this happening, ever.
My mom has a Samsung Galaxy S II on Rogers (Canada). I came to this board because the phone looks the same as this AT&T one.
Anyway my mom told me the other day that she had plugged her phone in to go to bed like she normally does and the screen flashed on as usual then went off as usual. But then as she was walking away the screen came on again. She thought that was weird so she went back to her phone to see what it was doing.
She said she saw an app open up then close out, then the dialer opened up and numbers started going into it all by itself along with a # and * signs. The numbers didn't make sense to her.
She panicked and shut the phone off.
At the time, she would have been connected to their home wifi network as well as rogers 3g network. I was like wow that sounds crazy. It sounded like a Trojan Horse virus that you could get on your PC.
She called Rogers the same night and they didn't see anything weird in her data history but she was of course connected to wifi. They told her to change the wifi password for her network and that's about it.
I checked out all the apps on the phone and I didn't see anything suspicious but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
If her phone wasn't hacked and someone was remotely manipulating it, what else could it be? If that is the case, what should I look for on the phone to try to get rid of it. Is there such a thing as a virus scanner for android OS?
Thanks
I would factory data reset the phone and format the internal and external SD card. Then set phone up with a new Gmail account if it was me. Some apps on the plays store look legitimate but could have permission to do weird things while the phone is not in use. Hope you can help your Mom.

Thanks for the advice. The odd thing is that I just did this to her phone like 4 weeks ago because she inexplicably had TONNES of data charges on her phone, and he has a 6GB/month plan. That seemed to have solved that...I'm pretty sure someone was manipulating her phone at that point too because there was no way she was using that much data on her own.
She must have something going on. Something she's installed must be giving someone access or something, I don't know what's up but I will backup all her SMS and notepad messages, and make sure her contacts are synced with Google then factory reset her phone, again.
Thanks.
Interesting problem that I suddenly have after installing rom. First I have been installing just about every rom has come for the last 6 months. Today I installed latest Carbon ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2310695 today and it installed ok, but upon booting for the first time, it got stuck the setup right at the beginning where I press the language (English). It just sat there and didn't do anything. I tried reinstalled the rom, and it did the same thing.
So I assumed a had a bad download, so I went to restore my daily driver backup rom (Zone sense 4 rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116509). But now I have no mobile data or mobile connection at all. I get a triangle next to the bars and whenever I restart phone I get this message "Global data roman access is allowed. Significantly higher charges may apply". I have never seen that before.
I have tried removing sim, toggling all mobile network options (CDMA, global, roaming, etc.) and I still get no connection at all. Any ideas here? I am on Verizon.

Thanks. I did that and it worked. Any thoughts on how to avoid that in future aosp roms? Did I do something wrong or is it totally random?

Its apparently random. I've had it happen twice, once back non CM10 when it just got RIL going, and a build ago on Carbon.
I'm going through this right now. I rru'd and can connect to 3g and use the data but no texts and when I try to make a call I end up with a Verizon message saying my number is inactive. Everything works fine on my backup phone. So its not a problem with Verizon
Edit... I'm going to ruu again and factory reset before booting because I think I remember seeing that posted at some point

EDIT 2.... re rru'd still having problems it will not make calls and will get 3g data when set to roaming which it seems to be on with the triangle above the signal.
anyone know the Verizon apn's i only have verizon internet in my apn list.
Edit 3 All fixed. i was factory resetting in stock recovery to no avail but a factory reset in sense itself worked
Was out earlier today, all Was fine with my phone, and never had an issue before. Then next thing I know I take my phone out of my Pocket and everything is in chinese, and apps gone, same widget setup as it came from the factory. I tried rebooting and changing the language to english. Also noticed that terms/privacy policy Was not already checked as usual (I got the phone from Taiwan a few months back and havent put a sim in it yet, just using on wifi, so it asks me for language/terms every time I reboot, but it has never been a problem in the past)
Everything is gone now, pics, videos, apps, and all data, even files I saved in folders I created myself in internal storage. I dont think I could havent "butt dialed" that sequence of commnds, especially since you have to select an extra setting if you want internal storage to be wiped during factory reset (I think). Possible but not likely...anyone else seen this? And more importantly is there anything I can do to get my data back?? I lost all pics from the vacation we're on and a ton of pics of my kids and family... I'm hoping its just some profile switch function IM not aware of, but I doubt it since storage space is all free now
One other interesting thing, google loaded and havent searc results in chinese, even after I selected English. phone UI did change successfully, but for same reason google still thinks I want chinese.
That doesnt sound normal
Try flashing a FTF with flashtool (flashtool.net)
See if it happens again, your firmware may not have been written right during manufacturing of your device

You don't want to flash anything if you want any chance of getting your data back, you need to stop using it and run a data recovery program as soon as you can, more chance of getting some of your data back

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Outside of the initial investigation, I pretty much stopped using the phone altogether and shut it off. I'm still on vacation so I haven't tried any recovery apps yet. My phone is not rooted currently, does anyone have any recommendations on the best recovery tool to use in that case? The first one I checked out was Dr. Fone, as well as an app based tool, but that one required root access. I'm hoping the most effective tools don't require root, as I don't want to mess up my chances of getting my data back during the rooting process.
As long as your computer recognises it you can use any recovery tool that supports flash memory via your pc

Ah that's good to know, thanks. I tried using a few android specific ones last night. Dr Fone connected to my phone and started installing drivers I think, then just crapped out. The other one (Tenoshare i think) made it all the way to scanning (it said it didn't recognize my phone model, but let me continue anyeway), but the process hung during the scan. When I restarted it, it told me I needed to root my phone, which is weird since it let me scan before...
I'll keep digging around, hope I can find something that works!
EDIT:
Finally decided to root it since I was having no luck, and that did help for a few of the apps. Unfortunately it seems the only recoverable data is the stuff I had already backed up to the card. No photos or videos taken after that come up, which also seems very strange to me... I have no idea what happened, one minute everything was normal, the next it was like I just picked it up fresh out of the box : /
I have a Droid Incredible 4g LTE on Verizon Wireless, and the past day or so my data connection has not been working. I am able to turn it on, and the 4g icon appears and shows a connection, but when I attempt to access any sort of internet source, I get an "Offline" error message (or whatever that app gives me). I have no idea why this might be happening. I attempted to reset my APN settings but have had no success. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Have you tried rebooting your phone? Also, Try force closing the application and then reload it.

The issue is not just for one app. It is for everything.
I have tried the following:
Reboot
Removing battery and reboot
Remove and replace sim and reboot
Reset APN Settings
Dial *228
and probably more that i don't recall.

There was a weird problem with a droid that I used to have with an issue similar to yours. The only way on that phone to get data on it was to try making a call, let it ring, then hang up and try your data again.
Hi,
I can't find anything relevant on XDA for your issue, so I'll have your thread moved to your device section.
Good luck!
IIRC *228 can fry the sim card on a Verizon LTE device have you tried it in a different device? Do you have any modifications from stock?
