I'm S-OFF from the original revolutionary unlock method and have flashed an RUU for 2.89 firmware. I'm trying to get back to HBOOT 1.40 so I can install CM10 ROMs as I've been told they don't work properly on the 1.58 HBOOTs.
I've seen so many threads on here telling you how to go back but they all either refer to being S-ON or for HBOOT 1.50, not 1.58.
I don't want to brick my phone (obviously) so I'm posting here to make sure and to ask which method will work for mine.
I remember somewhere that it would be simple since I'm still S-OFF and all I'd have to do is flash an image with the 1.40 HBOOT but I'm not sure?
thanks
EDIT: I'd delete this post but I can't; I found another thread that addresses this.
Download the 1.4 zip (available on this site), rename it to PG86IMG.zip, and flash it through bootloader.

The ENG bootloader is 1.04, but that's a completely different series from the stock and modified bootloaders.

Hi, the same. I'm on hboot 1.53 with S-OFF, running on ICS. As I realized, to be able to downgrade to GB, I need to get hboot 1.49 first. But I have no ideas how to and still searching... any help is much help.
I did it! Here is the steps:

Yes. Flash the 1.4 hboot. You can find it on this site and flash it in bootloader.

If you're rooted and s-off then you really don't need to worry about it. It won't affect your phone.

i thought hboot 1.12.2222 is good for using fastboot
There is no difference between 1.12.1111 and 1.12.2222. Check my sig for a link to the RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer. That's what changes the number.

1.12.1111 has NO fastboot and 1.12.2222 HAS fastboot enabled. if your s-off i would recommend upgrading to 1.12.2222 or you cant use fastboot commands.

if your on stock 1.12 with s-off i dont know if you need to get the updated hboot, the reason they updated was b/c 1.12.1111 broke the fastboot commands...but i am also not sure if stock 1.12 had them to begin with. heh
I've been trying to flash some of these new roms such as Cool ICS and SolidRom MyUI, both to no avail. I am on h-boot 1.4 with s-off. The last successful rom I had running on the phone was ICS MIUI. I had tried flash these roms on ext4 initially, then I tried twrp and both without success. Any tips/suggestions to get one of these roms to work?
Do I need a newer h-boot in order to flash these newer roms with newer kernels? If so, then how/what do I flash without losing s-off?
Well here goes nothing...going to try jbear's 1.58 hboot.
I still get bootloop after installing Cool ICS...
Getting bootloop with SolidRom MyUI as well. Could use some help please.

Yup, did a full wipe for prior to flashing every new rom. I have actually gotten SolidRom to work after installing the ICS firmware update img, but I still can't get Cool ICS to work.

If you are s-off then this should be easy to fix.
Some HBOOTs can only work for certain firmwares.
So if you want to run a ICS rom, you need to upgrade your hboot to either stock hboot 1.58, or Jbear's 1.58.5858
To upgrade your hboot, download the correct hboot from ramjet73's post here then rename the file to PG86IMG with the files extension as .ZIP
Place that on the root of your SDcard and boot into your bootloader. Accept the update, then restart your phone.
***EDIT***
I wasn't correct on some of the hboots and got some mixed up with the gsm EVO, for more info on hboots go to the link which ramjet73 has posted below.
I HOPED THIS HELPS!
MY PHONE
HTC EVO 3D

RECOVERY: 4EXT Touch Recovery

Then there are the newer firmwares that everyone has been having a fit over, 1.50, 1.58.0000, 1.53, 1.58.5858 (this is the Juopunutbear's custom hboot)
Those are the hboots that run only SPRINT/VM ICS roms.

You might want to read through this thread to get the correct information on CDMA hboots. Most of those you mentioned are Sprint bootloaders (the only VM bootloaders are 1.57 and JBear 1.57.5757) but 1.53 is for GSM phones only.

Leogy,
I have the EVO 3D with the 2.89 RUU installed with HBOOT 1.5858 S-OFF
Is there anyway I can put a JB ROM on my phone?
I've read that JB is not compatible with 1.5858.
Downgrade to the 1.04 ENG Hboot (found in the lens_flare edition miui thread) and you'll be good to go

Sounds like you already know the answer.
He was probably looking for clarification
hboot downgrade
Well I've also read that I can downgrade my hboot to 1.4, but that I have to brick it to do that. In other forums people talk like downgrading to 1.4 is simple. When I got the 1.58 upgrade it updated all my radio filestoo.. So I'm wondering if those radioh files are stored on the same partition as hboot. If they are I know how to flash my hboot with fastboot flash command so that would be simple.. Any help, pointers or info would be greatly appreciated.

hboot 1.04
First thanks again.. Do you know if I can just flash this hboot w/o bricking the phone. A lot of people are saying that the phone needs to be bricked to downgrade.

Yes, since youre s-off, all you need to do is find a copy of the hboot ( pg86img.zip) and place it on your sdcard, and boot into the bootloader, the phone does everything else from there on its own
