[Q] Comcast.net email (Can't safely connect to Comcast servers) - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings from the Skyrocket forum. I'm looking for a little help for a friend who has a problem receiving her Comcast.net email on her phone through the native app. When she puts in her mail info, she gets this response "Can't safely connect to Comcast servers."
I have searched this forum by a variety of search terms including "email", "comcast email", "comcast", etc. I'm coming up empty handed. A google search seems to show that there's been quite a bit of questions asked about this but as for the specific answer, if there is one, I can't find it.
Has anyone with Comcast.net email and an S3 found that they cannot include that account, or is there or has a workaround been found, preferably aside from using another email client.
Thanks for your time and hopefully, answers!

Viewing my outlook info on the web

My situation cannot be all that unique, but, I cannot seem to find the right solution that MUST be out there.
I am a long time Sidekick users. I like the sidekick but would like a bit more power in the device and be able to run other apps. On the advice of a friend (who also used to own a sidekick) I got an XDA (T-Mobile MDA specifically) on ebay, but, I am giving up one HUGE thing, I think... The Sidekick automatically syncs with the Desktop website, so all my notes, contact info, addressbook, to-do list is on the web. With the XDA the info will be on my desktop at home in Outlook.
Why is this a problem? Because I ->CANNOT<- carry a cell phone into my work site but I do have internet access. This gave me most of my Sidekicks functionality (except for making calls) from my desk at work. Could look up contacts, etc. It also gave me this access from any location in the world as long as I had internet access (even if that location didn't have GPRS, my power on the Sidekick died, whatever).
Is there a website that will stay sync'd with my outlook, something I can add to my website (PHP + MySql), or I can run a website from my desktop machine (PHP, Java, MySql, whatever I can install anything). I am not chomping at the bit to install Exchange with Outlook Web Access on my machine at home, though... WAY too much work I think.
Any suggestions would be great. The best I have found is www.freeoffice.de, but, my ability to speak German is somewhat limited. Yahoo apparently used to offer an intellisync ability, but, alas now it is an export or export via CSV it appears. I found another service that seems to primarily be a fax/voicemail service at like $3/month for this. I guess if they work great I could pony up that, but... I don't really need fax/voicemail service.
I don't really need this to support email, I can get my email on the web from elsewhere. Primarily all the other PDA functions.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Kevin
I use the Yahoo Intellisync which works well directly with Outlook data, no converting or anything, just run the Intellisync program and all the data from Outlook is available on a webpage.
Notepad, Calender, Address Book and ToDo List are all synced.
I don't know if they charge for the service as I get it as part of my Internet package with BTYahoo - this is UK based, but I suppose it is available everywhere.
I Don't think Yahoo Still Offers...
When I looked before I couldn't find the Yahoo sync option, but, now I see it. Thanks for making me look again. This should do nicely, I hope.

[Q] Word Doc. Email Attachments

Hey guys,
Just changed to the S2 after years of iPhone use. Found it a little tricky, but these forums are great and have solved loads of my questions.
The only thing I can't seem to find the answer to is a problem when opening Word Document Email attachments in K9 or Improved Mail. If I click 'Open' at the bottom of the email, it just says "This document cannot be opened". If I hit 'Save' and find the attachment in My Folders, then it opens up no problems using Polaris.
Have tried a few other Office Viewers, but the formatting doesn't work anywhere near as well as Polaris, so I'm hoping there's some hidden setting I'm missing in order to allow it to open straight from the email.
On the upside, I'm loving the S2 compared to my iPhones!
Thanks in advance for your help

[Q] Social Hub/Email using Germany IP address?

I've begun to notice that Yahoo and Gmail have been telling me there have been access from Germany such as 195.124.9.241, which comes up as Verizon Germany and I see the word social hub in there somewhere too.
Unfortunately there have been spam email sent from my inboxes to my contacts and the times of sending email corresponds exactly to one of the times while "logged in" from Germany.
Question is, does Samsung really route all it's requested data traffic from users in the UK through Germany? And do you think my phone/samsung emails been hacked or what?
Thanks
same problem here... what is it???
i was curious about that and did a tiny amount of research and found out that verizon germany only exists for companies and government agencies and looking up the ip address gave me this: http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_lokalisieren/195.124.9.241 as a first result. it says that it is SAMSUNG SDS EUROPE LTD (nat-egress-g-01.fra.samsungsocialhub.com). so it seems that your account has not been hacked but that is an actual route for the social hub.
however, spam sent from your email address can still happen, depending on what you did with your address. if you ever posted your address openly on the internet, you are likely to receive spam, but also to be used to send spam. there are so many ghostmailers out there, that don't require your actual login credentials to use your address as a sender and also there are many apps on the market that request to many rights. simple free card games request the right to send sms, call, and read out your imei, contacts and existing sms. that is malware that is able to grab your contacts' information.
also, these days, people tend to care less about privacy, just have a look at the google+ threads and the dozens of people openly posting their email address for millions to read and for bots to grab. facebook and google live from selling your personal information as well.
in conclusion: by not being careful it might easily happen that you give your contacts' email addressses away to receive spam, and your own to send spam, but that does not necessarily mean, someone else actually has access to your google account or whatever email provider you use besides google. but since there is of course still a chance that your account might be hacked, you should still change your passwords for your email account and every site you use with that account (as people that read your inbox might have read what you do on the internet and got that password as well).

Help with Wifi location services, and email setup

Hi there!
I'm a newbie to this android, flashing Rom's world and I just recently flashed a great JB Rom but I've just encountered two small issues, and I was hoping that you guys could give me a hand solving them. The problem is that when I stabilsh a WIFI connection, the google maps/location services in my device dont work properly, the pin drops in a place that is not accurate at all, it actually places me in a different country (google maps), same happens w/ the weather shown in google now, and Facebook. But this does not happens when I'm on mobile services.
Last but not least is whem I'm trying to set up one particular Email account (@me.com) I get an error message saying "Unable to connect to email sever to verify your account information. No response from server" and I made sure that my password was correct. Which doesn't happen with other Roms.
I've been reading for quite some time now and I found no answer to this particular situation or any similar, so sorry in advance if it already has been posted or asked, but honestly I couldnt find it.
thanks in advance for any type of help.

[Q] What "Exchange Services" is actually for?

(rooted i9500, Android 4.2.2)
I've just spent an hour or two browsing the web looking for some factual information on what this service is actually for. I found lots of threads for it, people speaking about draining battery because of it, I found a lot of threads that had discussion on "exchange emails" and some microsoft services, but also about imap's and pop's, but not single thread that actuall says what this service is for, which could give me information if I could disable it.
Till now I thought this is a very important background service from google, that has crucial role in all sync operations (callendar, contacts, email including gmail) etc, and if I disable it, all this syncing will stop. But I'm starting to think differently, as I just disabled this service and did a little check by sending myself an email, and the galaxy received it instantly.
So, can someone knoledgable tell me exactly what this service is about?
Yes it is, it's for Microsoft exchange mail. You should use the GMail app it's way better anyways
@Up
Thanks a lot AJM-hackers for taking the time.
So to make sure, this service is strictly used, when someone is using the "Microsoft exchange mail". It is used for nothing else?
I do use only gmail, since my first android phone. So it is completely safe to disable this service in these circumstances (I don't use Microsofts exchange mail and won't)?
Sorry to look a bit paranoid here, but could somebody confirm the above? I just don't want to break something, and then spend a full day looking for the cause, which would turn out to be the disabling of "Exchange Services".
No problems in 2 days whatsoever.
I guess that settles it for me. Thanks for the help AJM-hackers.
