[Q] Message failed to send, why is this a thing?! [RANT] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every now and then for no apparent reason, text messages fail to send and I get a message with a little red triangle next to it.
It happens on 2g, it happens on 3g, it happens with "full" signal and bad signal. It happened pre modding, and on various versions of various ROMS. What's worse is that sometimes the message does send, and I end up sending it multiple times because I think It hasnt sent.
But my real question is "Why does it even do this?", and I don't mean what are the things which cause it to fail, but why does it even tell me, why wouldn't it just keep trying until the message was sent, as if there was no reception? WHY IS THIS A THING?!
In what world would I NOT want to retry? Imagine for a moment you'd given a letter to the postman and he dropped it because for some reason he had terrible grip, would they just leave it there? would they pick it up and give it back saying "nah mate, I failed"?. I'm certain the postie would try again, and again, until eventually he got it in the sack and into the van.
I wouldn't mind so much if I'd actually figured out how to consistently get the message out of the conversation for editing. It seems to be pot luck whether touching/tapping/holding the little red triangle/message actually removes it and pops it back in the box for resending.
If you have just read all that and can answer any of the problems that are driving me insane, then I would be very grateful

Will you brick your HD2 if you keep flashing new ROM or Keep installing Android?

As mentioned above, Will you brick your HD2 if you keep flashing new ROM or Keep installing Android for many times?
Because recently i keep trying new ROMs and keep installing Android on my HD2... then call history or missed call record didnt keep in the phone everytime i make call or receive missed call, even i switch back to Window 6.5.
Numerous installation will it destroy your HD2???
If i understand this correctly .. the answer is a VERY easy.. and resounding..
YES!!!!!
Ok now that the scary part is over.. let me explain why.. just like your battery can only be charged and discharged a certain amount of times.. your memory system can only be written and overwritten a certain amount of times...
Now first of all this amount might be 10,000,000 or it might be 10,000 or even a grand.. and there is really no way of knowing when it will finally just be a corrupted system that cannot be written on anymore..
But here once again is ANOTHER catch.. every time you call or text anyone it saves stuff into your phone.. call logs texts messages.. navigation settings gps position.. camera settings and pictures.. location settings from roaming even antenna search and location just from walking around your block.. or hell even sitting still and satellites moving out of range and antennas resetting there position of incoming information signature....
SO
Yes.. you can only write and re write a system "x" amount of times.. but reality is.. someone on a stock rom who has never flashed a single thing.. who is on market place alot , traveling alot.. taking lots of pics.. ect.. has probably approached this threshhold closer than you have.
And
Since we dont know it it will handle 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 megs of re write or 100.. there really isnt any point in worrying about it.
P.S.
Your ps3 remote.. will eventually stop charging.. your hardrive on your laptop will eventually crash.. your ipod will eventually be useless.. your dvr will eventually quit holding movies.. get where im going here? ReWriting damages stuff.. but we have NO way of knowing how much.. and youll probably upgrade before you ever have to
Well-explained bro! Thanks for that... But i assume there are lot more ppl keep flashing new ROMs and androids to test each amazing development!
What bout you? ROM addicts? LOL...
But weird enough, my call logs dont keep records anymore! Any idea that i could solve this problem?

If you mean it doesnt keep between flashes.. PIM is getting more and more useless and they need to either update or i think the lot of us are going elsewhere.. there are alot of solutions.
I used to be a rom addict... now im a hardreset addict.. which i guess is almost as bad.. but it seems most roms have hit a wall where the updates are person specific.. so it there isnt something in the log i want .. i just let it pass.. for instance i cant see moving from energys 216XXX rom for a while.
I'd just keep on flashing by heart.. What you are probably aiming for is called 'wear leveling', which indeed means blocks on the memory can be written a finite amount of times.
However, I believe that even with flashing your device daily, it will most likely not fail until you have had your new phone 2 years from now..
And IF it fails because of bad blocks, just send it in for repair.

I just got my HD2 for 2 months and i have been flashing for umpteen times... It is just fun to see how the cooked ROMs like, any new features... Then now i started to feel my HD2 is sick already... Keep freezing and now all the call history doesnt record, such as call out, receive call or even missed call!
Then i do a Hardreset... Still no use... Any idea??
Flashed 1 too many times..
I have been flashing new roms to find out which one helps android run best and I bricked my TMOUS HD2. White screen with green htc letter. I can get to the Hard reset menu but I'm not sure what or where to go from here. Any advice? Thanks.

Hardreset menu, did you press volume up to restore the factory default setting?
could try a task 29 too
so lets get this right if i flash it 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 time it will bugger it up maybe....bugger only 99,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,090 times left
your call history thing is probably android related.....
mine was screwy the first time I booted back to wm...
some info was still there but it wouldn't store anything new
turned out that the date was set to 2011not 2010, check that....
Tried task 29, but failed to do so.... It hanged on black HTC screen with percentage bar... what should i do next to save my lovely HD2??? :`(

Weird Problem with Text not sending

Whenever I get over the character limit for texting and it becomes 2 text or more I always have this weird problem with sending it. I will send it and my phone will tell me that it couldn't send it & it doesn't matter how many times I resend it it tells me the samething. The weird thing about it is that it seems that even tho my phone tells me that, the person still gets the text, so depending on how many times I resent it they'll get the same text multiple times. I'm happy that even tho my phone tells me that they still get it, its just that the problem I have with this is that unless the person responds I'm not sure they actually got it or not and I really don't feel good leaving it up to chance and so on. So I just want to know if anyone knows how to fix it or at least find out if other people have this problem.
Oh I'm running the 2.0.2.A.0.24 firmware pre-rooted by

Weird texting issue

Hey all,
Hoping you can help because this one has Verizon techs puzzled. A few days ago I was sending a text to my wife and when I did for some reason my signal cut out totally and I lost it for hours. I took my phone to Verizon and they said there was a glitch and factory reset my phone. Here is the issue now. Whenever I send a lengthy text to my wife (a text that is two pages) she will get the majority of the old text message days ago and only two sentences of the one I am currently sending. I reset my phone again...deleted the thread with that message in it. She deleted my thread on her phone. Verizon techs on the phone had her power down her phone and they did something on the back end but it is still happening. She has not factory reset her phone which is the only thing I can think of at this point. She will get brief texts from me with no problem, but a lengthy one she gets the problem stated above. That original text I sent was a lengthy one....any one have any ideas on how to stop that from happening?

Wow, that is crazy! Maybe both of you could download and try a third party texting app like SMS PRO or CHOMP or something?? I am assuming you are using the stock messaging app. Can't hurt to give it a try?! Good Luck!

[Q] Cant send MMS...at least not all the time

I just installed Cm10.1 on my Razr, it was working fine. much better then my stock rom. I get better service, my texting app isnt broken and its all around a lot faster too. The only problem i have experienced is the intermittent capacity of my phone to send and/or receive picture messages. Earlier today my girlfriend sent me a picture. It wasnt until i had rebooted my phone 2 times and wiped cache did i finally get the messages. I dont know if it was a fluke that it happened like that or not, but its kind of inconvenient.
Afterwards i tried to send a picture back, it was pretty much just a random picture of where i was standing at the time, nothing important, but it did not want to send. No matter what I did it would not send. I wound up checking back at it about 20 mins later and it said that it sent and it actually did.
Is anyone else experiencing this phenomenon and how do i fix it? or is it just something that im going to hope is fixed with a new update soon?

Not receiving random texts

I have tried to fix this issue myself and spent many hours on it but I am at a loss. so I'm hoping someone here has some insight.
I can send text messages just fine and I can receive them "mostly" without any issue. However I noticed over the past few months people saying they texted me and when I look I never got them. When I pull my text logs from Verizon the network shows they were received so the issue is definitely local on my device. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it, and it's never a huge blackout just random ones missing here and there. It can be mid conversation or someone who hasn't sent me anything for days.
I'm sure it's one app causing the issue but I have so many I don't know how to identify which one it is. I use my phone for work so I'd really like to avoid having to do a factory reset as I can't afford to slowly install apps one by one to see if the issue disappears mainly because the problem is so hard to replicate. Anyone know of a method to identify this? Maybe some sort of Hijackthis? I'm out of ideas. Thanks
