[Q] Mobile data icons in Xperia - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Hi, I have a Neo V and a Galaxy Note, both with the same service provider and the same internet mobile data plans, and I carry them around everywhere.
I noticed that the Note shows H+, while the Neo V shows H. Bear in mind that both phones are using the same operator, the same internet plans, and are in the same location. Why is this so? Do Xperia phones consider H+ as included in the H band?
Edit : Does anyone see the H+ icon on their Xperia phones?

no H+ in fone sir only H ^_^

no.just the H or 3G or 2G

Think it's phone native, Note might support more range of data type than Xperia Neo.

[Q] Mini Pro is really a HSPA enabled handset?

Hii all
I'm from India, using Sony Ericsson Mini pro (u20i) and still in Airtel 2G and here Telecom Operators just started to roll out 3G services. Currently Airtel, Vodafone and TATA Docomo providing 3G services here.
I checked my handset compatibility both in Airtel and Vodafone websites. According to them my Mini Pro is 3G enabled but based on WCDMA technology so i get low speed 3G upto 384kbps. So they are suggesting me to upgrade HSPA enabled handsets that supports higher speed 3G that varies from 14mbps to 21mbps. I have been told that 3g on WCDMA really sucks as compared to HSPA enabled handsets.
According to Tata Docomo which provides HSPA + (also dubbed as 3.5G+) service and as they mentioning in their 3G handset compatibility list that Mini pro supports HSPA and it is a superior 3G ready handset. Sony Ericsson Indian website also states that it has Turbo 3G and HSPA enabled. Even in my handset box it has clearly mentioned that handset has HSPA and Turbo 3G.
Now in the handset settings menu, there is an option to select network mode which only gives only 3 options that is WCDMA only, GSM only and GSM/WCDMA.
So which one is true? Is my Mini Pro HSPA ready handset or only supports WCDMA? What Sony Ericsson and Tata Docomo states is true? or Airtel and Vodafone? Which Sim to buy? Im in great confusion. Please help in this regard.
it is HSPA ready. in spain, with vodafone i get the H icon of HSPA
Its hspa bro..im using mini pro nd while using mtnl hspa I got 3 mbps speed...our handset supports upto 7 mbps speed I think...
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
Yeah it IS HSPA enabled, it uses it by default usually, which adds to the miserable battery life if there is no 3g or HSPA signal available, as it continually scans, looking for it.
Mine actually uses HSPA by default, dropping to 3g when the signal is poor and down to G when it loses 3g altogether. (H, 3g, G respectivly).
Rooted phones can also have the full power of the connectivity chip unlocked to achieve up to 8mbps depending on provider and reception etc.
I'm with O2 UK
Quickly knowing your phone is via its signal which either H, E or G on top of the signal strength bars. Mine usually showing H.
I think they goes like this:
H - HSPA
E - Edge
G - 2G or GPRS
Thank u all for clearing my doubts. Got relief now. Really appreciated your help.
what about the mini?

Excuse me? What aside from 802.11n support (which has nothing to do with mobile provider) can be "unlocked" in a rooted phone?

LOL, Mini and Mini Pro hardware is identical in almost every way. In short, yes.

[Q] H+ icon, what does it mean ?

Hi
I have the Galaxy S2, when I turn on the use packet data and data roaming in the mobile network settings, an icon H+ starts flashing on the top of the display with two little arrows.
1. What does it mean? Is the phone downloading data from the cellular network?
2. What is: packet data and data roaming? What's the difference between the two?
Many Thanks.
Hi,
The icon itself means that you are connected to the data network of your cellular provider.
The icon can look like one of the following:
G - 2nd (or 2.5) generation connection
3G - 3rd generation coonection
H - 3.5 generation connection
H+ - 4th generation connection. This does not mean your provider actually support 4th generation data rates.
When the little arrows are gray - No data is being sent/received. When they are colored it means your phone is sending/receiving data.
Roaming means that you are connected to a "foreign" cellular provider (not the one you are paying to).
Data roaming means that you allow your phone to use data connection when you are roaming.
Using data connection while roaming is extremely expensive and it is highly recommended not to do so.
Hope I got it all covered for you
Data conection
Thank you for clearing this for me.

well I did my digging and got some more accurate figures in addition to the above
G is GPRS 86kbps
E is EDGE 236kbps
3G is UMTS 386kbps
H is HSDPA 3.2Mbps
H+ is HSPA 7.2Mbps
H+ is too for HSPA+ for 14.4Mbps or 21.1Mbps
(noteH and H+ are the so called 3.5G
and the new comer:
4G ( LTE technology) is 100-300 Mbps ( the iphone5 is said to be on 100Mbps)
some phones don't show H or H+ , they just show 3G for UMTS, HSDPA, HSPA, HSPA+
only G or E means it's on 2G, - that is you are not in 3G coverage
PS on my Vodafone, using speedtest.net app i get on H+ 7.12 Mbps... ( aka 0.89 MB/s)
Period

Is there a different icon for DC-HSDPA, or is it 'lumped' into H+?
The standard should theoretically allow up to 84Mbps with MIMO, but my phone only supports up to 42Mbps.
KPN in NL has it rolled out, but I've never been able to confirm if I'm on DC-HSDPA. Using Network Signal Info android app, the fastest I've connected is HSPA+ at 21.6Mbps.

GT-I9100 will NEVER get better than an Edge connection (shown as an "E" by your signal indicator) on T-Mobile USA's network, because it doesn't have the hardware to receive the right frequencies to do so. To get 3g or faster speeds (shown as "3G", "H", or "H+" by your signal indicator) in the US, you will need to be on AT&T's network, or another carrier that uses the same frequencies.

Reg: 3G speed

i had iphone 4 before Xperia S.... my 3G speed in speed test.net app was 6 to 7 Mbps (Aircel, chennai)..
after changing to Xperia S now my speed is not crossing above 300 kbps to 500 kbps.....
is this problem with my network carrier or my mobile... do i need to change some settings....
cheers,
Sanjay.D
Sounds like your not using 3g but the slower edge instead. Get the 3g apn settings from your carrier.

i have put my network settings to WCDMA only....then also i get the same speed.
i have set the settings for 3g only....
Contact your carrier, as they need to upgrade your service to HSDPA instead of just Edge speeds. I know T-Mobile UK used to limit this unless specifically asked for by the user.
