hey just got the rogers(canada) variant of the moto droid razr and I have some questions. I just rooted using the zergrush method in the development section of this forum. now I am wondering how do I update to 2.3.6 because I don't want to wait for rogers to release their branded firmware. I'm fine with using other countries firmwares I just need to know if all of the functions will work. and how i can flash it.
thanks.
first off, our Rogers only works with LATAM (latin america) ROMS... not EU ROMS...
and AFAIK, they also don't have 2.3.6 yet.
IMHO, don't bother with 2.3.6. Verizon got their sandwiches on the 4th. Canadian shouldn't be that long now...
Okay, I have a couple of questions:
First, in order to flash the Brazil ics, I just need to fastboot to Brazil 2.3.6 with rsd lite, then ota to ics?
Second, when the Rogers ROM comes out, can I just flash that over the Brazil one?
Any help would be excellent, i'm just worried I'll need to send it in for warranty and it be voided due to changing from Rogers fw.
Sent from my XT910 using Tapatalk 2
I don't know about going back to the rogers firmware someone smarter than me would have to answer that. To get to the Brazilian firmware you flash the brazil 2.3.6 with rsdlite, then root with motofail, then save the root with OTA rootsaver, then flash the OTA update in recovery. It is very easy to do. That said I wouldn't even worry about warranty the odds of them actually covering anything that needs repair under warranty is minimal and you will be without a phone for a month so unless it is Apple and you can change it over the counter I would say cell phone warranties are useless anyway. I just flashed it yesterday and must say that the LATAM ICS is FAR FAR FAR better than the Rogers 2.3.6 that came with the phone
Thanks to the OP for posting this. My Rogers RAZR on Fido is now running the BR ICS 4.04. So smooth!

To flash back to the Rogers ROM, there is a rogers and fido fastboot files available. Keep in mind when running fastboot you will lose your phone data, including Android ID. Overall it is a bit of a pain to run often. Also keep in mind that you can't fastboot files with an older boot version, Ie you can't flash a gingerbread rom over ICS.

This was my main concern, as we don't have ICS in Canada yet as OTA, let alone a fastboot image. I finally decided to go for the LATAM ICS, and I've got to say, I'm really happy.
I'm hoping that either a fastboot for Canadian ICS will show up (either official, or hacked together like the GB one available), so that I can have an official option available in case i need to send my phone in for service.
As a side note, I've had great luck with warranties here. I highly recommend anyone getting a new phone in Canada to get it at Costco... and BUY THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY. I just got my RAZR free, because my 2 1/2 year old SE X10 was simply having a few mild reception issues.
Anyway, enough of a plug, I'm loving the LATAM ICS ROM.
Welcome guide to the Droid Razr/Maxx Development Section.
Here you'll find current resources and features available to your device (If you made something new, please let me know so I can add to OP).
Initial information about your device
1. Motorola Razr and Motorola Razr Maxx (XT910 Model) were named respectively Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx (XT912 Model) by Verizon. (I'll call it just Razr)
Both devices shares same hardware, except the radio driver/kernel, which is CDMA/LTE for Verizon version (XT912) and GSM/UMTS for International version (XT910).
This means you can only flash a ROM (custom or stock) that has being build to your Razr baseband. (Bellow you'll find a link to use CMDA custom ROMs over the GSM version)
2. All the Razr variants have a forever locked bootloader. (There's a developer version not covered here)
This means you can only flash official ROMs and use a limitated number of things. Untill a hack called kexec be released which will bypass the bootloader and let you flash a custom kernel enabling other features.
3. All the devices are divided by regions.
This means you can only flash a stock ROM designated for your Razr region.
Common Regions are: Latam (Latim America 'n Canada) - Europe - Asia - PSHAsia - ME - China - Korea - Japan(*)
Warning: By flashing a ROM or rooting your Razr voids Motorola Warranty Terms. Even if you flash the same rom your Razr came with.
Europe, Asia, PSHAsia and ME shares same region signature verification (ODD: you can flash any of the ROMs between it)
You'll find more information about ROMs in THIS THREAD.
*Note:Other variants of the Motorola Razr can't be covered on this guide because we don't have nothing specific to it on XDA - If you have something, let me know.
**Every region have also some subdivisions which is not covered on this Index because we don't have any specific work on XDA to it.

Q: You didn't say all the regions/models of the Motorola Razr. Why is that?
A: Not all regions could be indexed because we don't have any specific work, files or information to it @ XDA.
Some subdivisions and not covered regions (It's an example):
Korea: XT910k; XT910S. (Found an OLD firwmare - It's on the thread)
Japan: XT909
Europe: nonEFGIS (All the european coutries except: England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain); EMEA (Europe, Midlle East, Australia).
Every region have subdivisions and also carriers. But it are all compatible each other:
Canada: Rogers; Fido
Asia, PSHAsia, AsiaRetail
Brasil: Claro (AmericaMovil), Vivo, OI, Tim, Retail... Etc.
We have yet: Latam and Retail.
That's the most reason I couldn't index all the variants of the Razr. Even the XDA Section can't be accurate. The 'Droid' Razrs are only those from Verizon, for instance.
If you find anything related to these not indexed devices. let me know an I'll link to the thread.
Q: If I flash a ROM for the exactly region of my Razr I'll void warranty terms?
A: Pretty much, yest! By flashing a ROM or rooting your Razr definitively voids Motorola Warranty Terms. Doens't matter if you have a carrier device or a region specific device. Flashing a ROM is not covered by Motorola Warranty.
It's clearly stated in letter (e) of the Motorola Warranty terms:
"(e) Unauthorized Service or Modification. Defects or damage resulting from service, testing, adjustment,
installation, maintenance, alteration, or modification in any way, including but not limited to tampering with or altering the software, by someone other than Motorola, or its authorized service centers, are excluded from coverage. Notwithstanding the foregoing, any Product which has had its bootloader unlocked, or whose operating system has been altered, including any failed attempts to unlock the bootloader or alter such operating system, is not covered by this warranty, regardless of whether such modifications are authorized, approved, or otherwise sanctioned by Motorola. "
Q: Motorola can see if I have either flashed a ROM or get rooted?
A: Yes, they can. And seems there's nothing you can do about it. The log of background process of altering in any way the original system is sent to Motorola. Look for a file called 'qe' in your device. Also, bug2go.
Thanks

please make this a sticky.
yes but note that the europe variant versions en.eu nonefigs may be flashed one over the other but if u flash an nonefigs specific device an en.eu rom will put you out of warranty. what i mean is that there are regional subcategories that void warranty if switched

that's the point. just put a big fat warning to remind such owners.
rare variant = no leaked fastboot, less owner interaction in this forum.(maybe low sales volume too)
most user in this forum have either xt910 or xt912

Flashing any ROM, in theory, would void warranty. Even rooting your phone is against warranty terms.
Almost any modification you do to your device voids warranty.

No. If my phone is an xt910 intended for the uk market(en.eu) and i went from 2.3.5 en.eu to 4.0.4 en.eu flashing with rsd the OFFICIAL MOTO RELEASE(no leaks and other stuff) it would NOT void my warranty. If i flash the official moto nonefigs 4.0.4 release it WILL. Thats the point i am trying to make.

man i think we are on a language barrier. u did a very good job at this. all i am trying to say is:
you stated on your op that "Europe, Asia, PSHAsia and ME shares same region signature verification (ODD: you can flash any of the ROMs between it)". it would be nice to add a clarification that doing so voids the warranty of the phone. also there are regional subcategories to europe roms to my knowledge(en.eu and nonefigs). to clarify this to someone who doesnt know much about adroid, comes here reads this and ends up without warranty. gj on your hard work

Hi! That's interesting. You have a good point, but flashing any rom collected from internet voids warranty. Even if you flash the exactly same rom your Razr came with or doing root voids warranty. Except those you got from phone info or motocast.
All the procedures you do is registered in your phone in a log file called 'qe'.
I'll add a warning anyway.
Thanks

I've posted this before but I think you didn't open the warranty terms from motorola, here's an except:

Developer Version
I had to send my Alltel Razr Maxx to Motorola for repair, and it came back with the developer version of the software. What is the difference between this version and the others?
I have a GSM RAZR MAXX I got from eBay (new in box). It's nice and I think I will keep it and sell my GNEX. It's from Puerto Rico (Claro network?) and is stuck on 2.3.6. After using Jelly Bean on my Nexus, I at least want ICS as Gingerbread feels very old.
I'm not familiar with Motorolas and their ROMs. That said, what's my best option for ICS today? Wait for the ever-elusive OTA? Flash an ICS ROM? If flashing is the best option, which ROM would fit this model? I am not sure if it's the Latin America version or what. I don't want to root...just get 4.0.4.
What's the best bet for a solid daily driver?
Thanks.
Edit: I am very familiar with ROMS/Rooting on the Nexus, just not Motorola, if that helps. I know how to flash, etc, but am not sure if the process is exactly the same for Moto as compared to the Nexus. I know I can search for how-to's, and my question is more of "what are my options" - wait on OTA or just flash, and if it's just flash, which ROM is best?
Edit2: I've done the clear google services framework, CHECKIN, etc, to no avail. The OTA just hasn't been released and of course there is 0 information from google on this particular flavor of RAZR MAXX.
There is - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840296

Im from Australia, so I'd choose Asia Firmware, for you you would choose LATAM.
Before this, follow the steps to unlock your bootloader and root, then you have ICS for your GSM MAXX
Thanks for the post. Just to clarify, I believe the phone itself is from Puerto Rico (Claro network) but I'm in the US. I don't speak Spanish nor do I *need* a Latam firmware, unless the phone requires it to work.
Could I use any of those ROMs on a Puerto Rican device? If I were to pick one that I feel would suit me best, it would probably be the latest version from any listed in your post. It certainly doesn't have to be a Latin American ROM unless that's all that will work with the hardware.
Honestly, if I was you, i'd sell it again.
The way Mototroll treats their customers, at least in Europe has wiped them out of the list of Manufacturers of which i'd buy a mobile phone from.
At the end of the month, my Razr will find its way to Ebay, i'm sick of it.
u could use any rom it dosent matter were its from just change the rom use the latam its really nice and fast

You can install any firmware from either regions, the only differences between the countries are: Bloatware & pre-installed languages. They doesnt affect your performance in anyway.
So go ahead and choose any and flash the firmware, you then can flash any ROM for that works for that firmware.

All are LATAM, and you have no choices but to choose LATAM (theres no disadvantage anyway), the only disadvantage is you get ICS 4.0.4 while the rest of the world are waiting for their ICS for the razr maxx lol

Installed the Maxx version in your OP. Works great! Thanks.
My current Motorola System version is 65.1.40.XT910.MERetail.en.06 <- Gingerbread
I had purchased this from Middle East. I would like to change my ROM so that my phone will be identical to a brand new phone purchased from India. After reading some posts, it seems gingerbread version of Asia ROM is Blur_Version.65.1.40.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03

My question is whether I can flash the asia version over ME version using the normal flash method? And if yes, once I do it, will my motorola give me OTA update notifications meant for an Asia ROM? More specifically, ICS has been released for India Roms, but not on ME roms, will I get ICS once I change my region to Asia?
I am not very used to Motorola ROM flashing. Have only used samsung phones in the past. Hence need a little clarification.
Thanks
Yes to all the questions. You can flash Asia ROMs and you should get update when Motorola release it.
