Change ROM from ME to Asia - Motorola Droid RAZR

My current Motorola System version is 65.1.40.XT910.MERetail.en.06 <- Gingerbread
I had purchased this from Middle East. I would like to change my ROM so that my phone will be identical to a brand new phone purchased from India. After reading some posts, it seems gingerbread version of Asia ROM is Blur_Version.65.1.40.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03
Also after reading the first post on this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840296
Europe, Asia, PSHAsia and ME shares same region signature verification (ODD: you can flash any of the ROMs between it)

My question is whether I can flash the asia version over ME version using the normal flash method? And if yes, once I do it, will my motorola give me OTA update notifications meant for an Asia ROM? More specifically, ICS has been released for India Roms, but not on ME roms, will I get ICS once I change my region to Asia?
I am not very used to Motorola ROM flashing. Have only used samsung phones in the past. Hence need a little clarification.
Thanks

Yes to all the questions. You can flash Asia ROMs and you should get update when Motorola release it.
Cheers

[Q] rogers moto razr

hey just got the rogers(canada) variant of the moto droid razr and I have some questions. I just rooted using the zergrush method in the development section of this forum. now I am wondering how do I update to 2.3.6 because I don't want to wait for rogers to release their branded firmware. I'm fine with using other countries firmwares I just need to know if all of the functions will work. and how i can flash it.
thanks.
first off, our Rogers only works with LATAM (latin america) ROMS... not EU ROMS...
and AFAIK, they also don't have 2.3.6 yet.
IMHO, don't bother with 2.3.6. Verizon got their sandwiches on the 4th. Canadian shouldn't be that long now...

XT910 Stuck on 2.3.5

Hi guys,
First of all, I'm not an android tech guru, however I've been searching around on both google and xda developers for some time and haven't been able to find any info on this, and now that ICS is rolling out, I would really love to get this problem fixed.
So here we go:
My phone(XT910) is currently running Android version 2.3.5 and when I go under settings and press System Updates, it says that no update is currently available for my phone. However as far as I can tell it should be able to update to 2.3.6 which has been out for some time. Even after a factory reset, no updates are available. I'm using a Danish carrier called Telia DK.
Here is some information from my system info's panel, hopefully some of might prove useful:
System Version:
651.73.30.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU
Model number:
XT910
Android version:
2.3.5
Baseband version:
U_03.1C.85P
Weptop version:
WT-2.0.0-113
Kernel version:
[email protected]#1
Build date:
Wed Dec 7 22:22:14 CST 2011
Hopefully one of you guys will be able to help me I would love to able to try out ICS!

hi,
first of all, i don't really know if there's a NonEFIGS 2.3.6 update for EU. But for Danish usage you could flash your phone to the RETAIL version of 2.3.5
you should do this:
root your phone via ZergRush
flash the RETAIL (use the unbranded en.EU) via RSD Lite (protect root before doing this via OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store)
check for updates
there should be some 2.3.6 update available.
After the 2.3.6 update you're free to update to any eu GSM ICS ROM posted in RAZR DEV section
No ICS in DK or the rest of Europe yet. There's a thread in general.

I'm in a similar situation with the phone stuck in NonEFIGS Retail 2.3.5, except I don't live in EU at all
Anyway, I need to do this step too. So you flashed to normal EU retail 2.3.5, update to 2.3.6, then find a EU ICS (which one) and flashed that?

Your firmware is from Taiwan..and for it the latest version is what you are currently using..however you dont need to wait for updates you can download firmware for United Kingdom the latest is I9300XXBLG8..you can download it from here..
http://samsung-updates.com/get/58/Samsung_Firmware_GT-I9300_BTU_I9300XXBLG8_Android_4_0_4.html
then flash it via odin...search these threads for the method to do so..
Hi man, Unlike iphone, offical rom is always the worst one.It usually uses more memory and have bad battery management. You can try another rom such as mike's.

Thank you! I am not too familiar with flashing with Android again because it is something new and if anything were to happen I wouldn't know how to fix it since I have been an iPhone user. Is flashing firmware any different from jailbreaking the iPhone? - in terms of being safer. Also, how can I be 100% sure that the UK version will work on my phone as well as keep my unlock.

Flashing the firmware is 100% safe if you follow the steps..it does not root your phone so it is not jailbreaking...so you will also not loose your warranty...
the firmwares are almost the same for every region, samsung being an a***le released different firmwares for different regions with different CSC....
but i am quite sure it will work on you region as you are already using Taiwan firmware in Canada...in any case download the Taiwan specific firmware also..so if anything goes wrong you can revert back...
by the way I am in India using BTU firmware..
Me too...
Along the same lines, I have an I-9300 sgs3 with South Africa firmware (XFE), i9300xxale9, but I'm using it in the United States, on AT&T, and am not able to receive updates thru either Kies or Update menu. I will NOT be traveling outside the US anytime soon. What should I load that would let me receive updates here in the States OTA?

[Q] Considering RAZR (XT910) , localization questions

Hello,
I am thinking about buying a new RAZR (XT910, European model, unlocked) from Handtec UK and I have a few questions.
I have searched the forum for answers but I have to say that the answers got me even more confused than I was in the first place so I hope to clear things up this time.
I know some questions might seem obvious but coming from HTC I can say that it's quite of a difference
Please keep in mind that I don't want to root or open the phone's bootloader. I plan to go stock this time, if possible.
1. Assuming it will be running the generic European firmware (Gingerbread/ICS), will it supports Hebrew user interface?
2. If not, can I flash the Israeli localized firmware (SPDIRD-40_IL_OPT_1C.91P_CFC_P2B_Signed.xml.zip found here) on top of it?
Considering the fact that the Israeli ROM is based on Android 2.3.6, is there's a newer Israeli or other fully Hebrew UI supported firmware that can be flashed to the phone?
3. What if the phone will be preinstalled with a newer firmware than the one that I want to flash? Can it be downgraded?
Thank you very much and have a great weekend!
1. I'm running Epsilon v3, with European base, and that isn't supports the Hebrew interface.
2. Unfortunatelly don't know, maybe someone else.
3. The Ice Cream Sandwich is cannot be downgraded to Gingerbread.

Thanks, bigdee888! Your help is much appreciated!
You basically answered question 2 as well. I guess that the phone will be running ICS so I won't be able to flash the Israeli Gingerbread firmware on top of it. I can only hope that the phone will be preloaded with Gingerbread.
My pleasure!
But, if the phone comes with ICS, maybe you can flash an EMEA (Europe, Middle-East, Africa) sbf with the RSDLite. It could be contains the Hebrew language, but i'm not sure, because i'm running AsiaRetail & EuropeRetail roms.

Hebrew for Motorola RAZR MAXX XT910
I recently purchased one on line through Amazon US. It is being sold as " MOTOROLA RAZR MAXX XT910 BLACK 16GB SPYDER 3300mAh Battery Factory UNLOCKED GSM OEM CELL PHONE (HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100) by New Generation Products LL "
I live in Israel and was preparing myself mentally towards the gruesome task of installing Hebrew on it.
To my surprise it had Hebrew pre-installed on it as one of the system languages.
Motorola, for some reason, does not advertise this and this specific model does not even appear on their Israeli site.

[Q] Restricted Countries JB Update

Hi Everyone,
I have a Razr xt910 which I bought from Egypt and when I try to find if I'm going to get the JB update I cannot find my phone listed so it appears that it's imported from different country (whatever, long story )
my problem is that I need to get the official update but I think my version was from those countries Motorola decided to punish them for buying their device, so any way to get it?!
P.S: I'am attaching screenshots for my device information
The version you are now is the middle east version. The official update which is released yesterday is for Verizon only, but it will also come to Europe,France and Germany soon,so you will not get the update. But you can flash the EU version via RSD Lite
