Hi everyone.
Finally got my S3 today (I bought one on eBay and got scammed), waiting on paypal to get my money back.
Anyway, I'm trying to use the Galaxy S3 toolkit to root it. My phone build number is IMM76D.I9300BUBLG3.
I have installed the drivers and select Android 4.0.4 (Build IMM76D XXBLG9) as my phone. I then try then to do the all in one root option (3), when in Odin I don't change anything apart from setting the PDA to the file it told me to and then press start.
Nothing happens apart from this showing up in the message box "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)"
Anyone got any suggestions?
Many thanks.
Are you in download mode? Have you installed Samsung drivers?

Hi!
I suggest you use these steps here: http://mobilecon.info/install-clockworkmod-recovery-and-root-samsung-galaxy-s3.html
Also, when you were on odin, did you put your phone on Download Mode?
I hope this helps Cheers!
have you installed kies?
have you installed sdk toolkit?
have you closed the kies processes (are 3)? have you closed your antivirus?
have open odin before plugin the phone?
have you get in download mode: (vol. down)+(home)+(power) then acept the download mode with volume up.?
try using cf-root.
I have a similar problem Odin 3 doesn't recognize my phone when connected in download mode it used to do it but not anymore, I have Kies installed and always make sure it's not running.
However Odin 1.x does recognize it and that's what I've been using to flash and root since Odin 3 stopped working.
Any suggestions?

Thanks, I just tried these. Window detects my phone when I plug it in to Odin and select the PDA (I have one of the ID:Com light up). Once I turn it off though the ID:COM light goes away - then I go on into download mode my computer doesn't detect a USB device (no sounds or anything). Here I guess is my problem. Also for some reason when my phone turns on and I plug it in for the first time the PC makes a sound detecting a USB device, but then disconnects it - I replug it and it detects fine.

Correct, that is what I've been doing. Tried the method you suggest and the phone still isn't being detected when in download/Odin mode.
I think something is up with the phone anyway, at least the battery. I got it with about 5% battery so I had it on charge all night, the USB cable connected to my iPad AC socket charger (don't see why this should matter) and it only charged about to about 80% over night.

Hmmm, something isn't right there, suggest a new battery, but always flash with at least 50% battery, preferably full charge.have you tried different usb port?
Something is wrong for sure, I emailed the seller about it to see what he says. Not sure how much batteries, will have a look.
Tried multiple USB ports as I've tried on my desktop and laptop. Just trying an older version of the samsung drivers to see if it can be recognised in download mode. ((Didn't work)) .... Weird.
Are you running Odin as administrator, that's worth trying as well if you aren't already
Tried it, going to now try a 3rd computer!
Edit: Didn't work either. On the urge of giving up, not sure what else I can do.

Hey guys,
Yep. *NOT* connecting to Kies.
I'm in Australia. Bought my SGS2 from HK (PDA ZSKG2, CSC OZSKG2), running Gingerbread 2.3.3 and is currently rooted using Chainfire's Odin dump on these forums. Prior to rooting, i had the same issue.
I have checked via the program, i have the latest kies program downloaded (2.0.2.11071_128) - and I also have installed the USB.exe file (for the propper Samsung SGS2 drivers off the Samfirmware.com website) I also have 2 mini USB cables, they are both genuine Samsung, so worst case scenario, at least 1 of these cables should work...
Aslo as an FYI: I am using a desktop PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit OS (legit) - have not had issues running other USB2 devices o it...
THE PROBLEM:
When i plug in the cable, the phone immediately tried to connect to Kies (on ym SGS1, i had the option of Kies/media player/mass storage) but can't select anymore; when i connect, a pop-up box shows up "I9100" and asks me what program i want to use - i have ano problems with copy/paste/delete/transferring files using this method, the issue is with Kies.
When i open kies manually and plug in the phone+USB cable (or if Kies starts up automatically when cable is plugged in), it jsut gets stuck on "CONNECTING", but the phone itself never actually connects.
I have tried reinstalling the same usb.eve drivers again, restarting PC, the phone, unplug/replug in the cable and it doesn't seem to work...the funny thing, was my riisted SGS1 phone connected ti kies instantly and never had any issues with it. Can anyone lend me a hand or some advice? At the moment, i just want a simple Uuser firendly interface for restoring a tonne of my saved contats in a contacts file logged backed up form my old phone.
Cheers

It should work ! Do u use a custom rom ?
Double check USB Debugging is OFF.
Then check if you have one of those "multi mount" apps active that let you use /sdcard from phone and PC simultaniously - kill it.
Usb debug on or off makes no difference guys. Im using stock firmware, just rooted kernel...and no multi-use apps...or at least I dont think (what kind exactly?)

Thanks, i'll give thgat a try when i get home. However, i now have a strong hunch i could have a phone with either faulty software or hardware:
When i plug a USB cable into my work PC to simple recharge the phone (exiting any PC Kies attempt by the phone) the stupid device tells me it cannot recharge due to the phone or batteries TEMPERATURE being too high or too low; yet the phone is not warm at all, and the room temperatures are more than optimal for its operating environmement.
Tried unplugging and plugging back in and get the same error, am going to turn the phone off now and attempt to recharge it. Dodgy HK crap....
RoOSRA
Some quick suggestions:
* Plug the cable into the usb port in the back of the computer, not the front port or usb hub (unless it's an AC powered hub).
* Make sure you use the Samsung micro-usb cable that came with the phone
* Try with another computer, maybe the PC drivers are messed up. Uninstall them as I mentioned above.
* Try to factory reset the phone
* Change your ROM to an official Samsung one
EDIT: Regarding temperature, there are tools in the market that can show you battery temp. Regarding the message you're getting, it would be useful to show a screenshot. If I remember correctly, Power+Home shortcut will take a screenshot.
Not sure how it happened, but my PC doesn't detect my Ace when I plug it into USB. I have tried every possible solution I could find here but no luck: USB debugging ON/OFF, formatted SDCARD, factory reset, etc. I have Kies installed, able to detect other phones (SII, Xperia, etc.) but not this Ace. I have also tried other PCs but no success.
NOTE: I am now on Imaginary V3, and was on BehradGH Cyano-Ace ROM. I have tried restoring to older ROM but didn't fix this problem.
Thanks
Are you using win 7? If so go to start, plug in your ace, go to devices and printers and see if ' samsung cdma' is there. It may have a yellow triangle there. Hit uninstall drivers on right click. Then reboot and on kies "trouble shoot connection" it will install, your drivers and you will be able to mount USB storage from your device (a prompt should appear on your notifications bar)
Please note some (well, most) custom ROMs do not support kies. Don't update through it (kies), it makes a mess of it
Please hit thanks if I helped

Well, USB tethering does show as an option in the settings but I can't enable it: it says "no USB device connected"! Does this mean that the ROM does not support tethering?
I forgot to mention that the phone is not detected by the PC even when I'm in the download mode. That's why I couldn't use odin to flash stock firmwares. I assume this has nothing to do with a problem in the current ROM, right?
Yeah, BehardGH is ancient but I bought this phone several months ago as a gift to my dad so he is not after changing ROMs. And I must solve all phone problems! That's why I need your help guys...

Well in my rom which is cm7 by fat USB mode appears automatically when I connect my phone to a PC .. no need to tick that option
So I have the OTA ICS update now. I want root again (didn't have it previously on this phone), so I decided I would try one of the "1-click" scripts. My problem now lies in my PC (win 7 64bit) and drivers I think. Downloaded the motorola utility to get all my correct drivers. When I plug up my phone, my pc downloads all the drivers, but it never downloads the Mot ADB interface one. I'm stumped. I've tried it on all 3 machines. I can transfer files and the phone mounts ok OTHER THAN the adb interface.
When I run adb shell it says "error: device not found"
Here's what I have done.
1. Uninstalled all my drivers
2. Re-installed all the drivers
3. Tried every USB port on the computer
4. Made sure USB Debugging was checked
5. Made sure my phone was in Media mode
6. Wiped cache and data
7. Tried it on other machines
8. Re-installed windows on 1 machine.
When I put the phone in AP Fastboot, then and ONLY then will the PC see the phone as an adb interface.
Any thoughts?
I think you need to switch it to a pc mode other people have said.

tried this and still failed. I've done it now on 5 machines. All have the same issue. None of them ever prompt me to install drivers for adb interface. terminal emulater doesn't do anything on my phone either. Bout to take my phone to verizon.
OK I am running emulator on my phone, and when I enter command "adb shell" adb starts and still says "error: device not found"
gonna throw this phone to the wall. Thanks for all the suggestions and help thus far. If I can't get it fixed by tonight, i'll take it to verizon tomorrow and have them send me a replacement.
EDIT: Plugged in my wife's razr with usb debugging and everything worked correctly. DEFINITELY the phone! Can't believe I have wasted this past 2 days on this!
I am having the SAME EXACT problem running the same version of Windows. I'm guessing you haven't found a work around as of yet, eh? I still have been unable to get Windows to recognize the ADB interface. Whenever I connect my Bionic, it finds/installs it just fine, but not so much with the Razr Maxx.
Have you attempted a factory reset at all? The issue began with me because I rooted the device, used OTA rootkeeper, installed the OTA, but then Rootkeeper was unable to restore root, so I also tried to use the 1-click scripts.

I had the same issue.. You need to download Matts utility 1.7 and then extract the zip into an (empty) folder. Then click the first file in your folder and click on the 64 bit. Let it install then run the utility.. Make sure your device is in USB debugging mode and that you have your storage device set to mtb.. Then click the root android 4.0.4 option and let the program to the rest! I hope this helps it sure helped me.

I had a very similar issue that was stopping me from re-rooting after I pulled the official OTA. At the end of it, my problem seemed to also center on not having the Mot Composite ADB Interface driver install when I connected the device by USB. I was running Moto Drivers ver. 5.7.0 (current) and successfully connected on other RAZRs, just not my current one. Same 'device not found' errors.
Connecting my device as a camera (PTP) fixed the problem (settings -> storage -> press the menu key and choose Camera (PTP). After doing that, windows installed the additional devices: USB Composite Device, DROID RAZR, and Mot Composite ADB Interface and I was back on track. Regardless of what I tried otherwise (including a wipe data) the ADB interface just wouldn't install until I connected as a camera.
My post is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743367&highlight=root+ota&page=2
EDIT: Just re-read the OP. Not just close. Sounds like you're having the SAME problem. Hope this helps.
At first I could not get this script to work. Apparently I had no ADB interface installed. What did the trick for me, was switching off the USB debugging, plugging in my Droid 4 a few times in camera, MTP and mass storage mode. That made my computer install all the necessary drivers.
Having done this, it all worked perfectly. Thank you very much! I am completely new to Android and XDA, and this almost foolproof script is excellent. :good:
So simple..
Had same problems with my new phone as everyone else, PC not recognizing ADB .... tried downloading a couple of different things from other advice as I don't know much about computers this just got confusing. All I had to do was turn off the USB debugging, plug in under the different USB computer connections and ta da!
No Storage Drives Show
Hi everyone.
First time I post on the forum, although I've been using it for quite some time.
This time I'm experiencing an annoying situation with which I spent many hours of my last two days.
Turns out my Windows (7 64-bit) won't display the mass storage drives from my Droid Razr (XT910 Model, Brazilian Carrier OTA).
The funny thing is that all Motorola Drivers are shown on Device Manager and when in AP Fastboot Mode, RSD will recognize the phone as connected and flash normally.
I am really out of ideas here. Did religiously everything written on this forum and many others:
Tried different cables and pcs
ReInstalled ICS OTA
Wiped cache/data
Factory Reset from Android
Tried to connect as Camera, Media and Mass Storage
Tried with USB Debugging both on and off
One thing that may have caused the problem, from what I recall, is I am running without the cid file, as I deleted it to install JellyBean through the steps suggested by "TheRazRGuy" here on xda.
Thing is, as I don't have the cid, I must boot through BPTools on bootmanager everytime the system is turned on. After I downgraded the JellyBean to ICS OTA again, I went on to root the device but forgot about the boot requirement I described.
After the easyroot first reboot, the screen went black as always when normal reboot without cid. Even though easyroot still rebooted 2 more times and displayed the "your phone is rooted" message, I thing something may have gone wrong on this process.
It is worth saying that with JB the mass storage was being shown and before the easyroot process too..
I am really out of clues here, hope someone can help!

Just had to modify an option on BootMenu Manager
Hey guys and girls.
Bought a S3 few weeks ago and problems started yesterday evening. I started KIES and it said an upgrade was available. I started download it but something happened and it failed.
I have tried reinstalling KIES and its mobile driver several times
I have rebooted the phone and computer several times.
I also factoryreseted the phone via settings
I have resetted cache/dalvik
I have tried two computers
Also restored back to an earlier backup I made in CWM
Tried different cables
Removed SIM/MicroSD
The phone charges directly when connected to the wall, charging via computer works too, sometimes after installing kies it doesnt charge at all OR is "delayed" Up to 30 seconds.
Odin doesnt recognize the phone even when in download mode.
What could be wrong?!!
"International I9300" bought in Sweden (Came with firmware for Germany)
Rooted CF-Root with SuperSU, Manager
dont know what could be wrong but you can try connecting to a different computer so it can automatically install the drive with a fresh start
Samsung Kies: connection problems
1 Make sure to always have the latest installed version of Kies
2 For owners of Windows Vista/Seven start Kies in administrator mode.
3 Disable any antivirus software, antispyware, or firewalls on your PC.
4 Connect your phone to your pc using the launcher by default of the Samsung (Touchwiz). Launcher alternative may not be recognized by kies. Close any programs in the background on your phone and pc.
5 Make sure that in the Settings > Wireless and network > USB Settings is selected Samsung Kies or ask the connection (only for Gingerbread).
If already selected try to choose any item and then reset one of the two mentioned.
6 Make sure that the debug mode usb is disabled
7 Try to use another USB port on your pc. Not all usb ports may not be able to deliver the power needed to power the device.
8 Restart both your phone and your pc.
9 Try to reinstall the drivers for the Galaxy. To do this open Kies, go to the Tools menu and then on install driver.

10 Try to use another usb cable.
Of course, the suggestions above are on stock firmware, without kernel modified or root permissions enabled. In this case, it is necessary to force update via odin.

Any particular from "Product line" ?
Edit: nevermind
If your rooted what about mobile odin and flashing your official rom through it? I know youve resetted but maybe a reflash might fix something? Or if your not rooted try a full wipe and cache wipe from the default recovery?

mobile odin is the app version of odin and isnt used on the pc, if you go this method I would recommend pro version as you can apply root as you flash roms. If you use the free version and it doesnt cure problem you wont be able to root until u fix connection problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
edit:- quickest way of removing cwm is flashing an official rom, unfortunately that poses a problem in your case :/

Well if it succeeds flashing original recovery from somewhere I could return it to the store..
Any other ideas? As i dont feel like returning it at all. Im trying to remove kies and drivers again now.
Update: No progress yet, thought it would fix by itself after a day or two but no
That Mobile Odin pro, I can use it to flash a stock rom, remove root (I know its removed with the rom) and reset the counter?

It depends if you you want to keep root flash stock firmware with Mobile Odin Pro with Everroot option, if not use pc Odin and after reboot do a factory reset. Reset flashcounter before flashing with Odin with Triangle Away 1.70 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114. If you want to support the dev buy it from Playstore.

Hi, this happened to me today as well. I hadn't changed anything, phone is stock not rooted. plugged into pc to copy some music onto the phone and my pc just kept saying usb device had malfunctioned. I tried it on another computer and it was the same. yet i have copied files back and forth loads of times before. luckily for me powering the phone on and off fixed this for me? Have you tried powering off and on, and then if that fails a hard reset. *#272*yourimei# that just might fix it.
Try to disable USB debugging...

Dialing 272 has to do with choosing the csc file, has nothing to do with your problem.
You might try doing a hard reset *2767*3855#, backup personal stuff first to your pc, but probably isn`t the answer.
Start from scratch:
Install a free programm called Revo Uninstaller from www.freewarefiles.com. Open Revo and choose uninstall Kies including the drivers by clicking right, wipe everything samsung related. The programm will guide you through the process and will delete directory, folder and map. Reboot your pc and reinstall Kies again. Hope it will work now.

Hi to everyone,
I am playing since first pop-up to update my device to latest firmware release via PC Companion. I tried also by using a different PC (OS too, Windows 7 64Bit / Windows XP SP3) but when I plug the phone pressing the vol- button, the notification LED blink for 1 sec (green) then it doens't go ahead.
I also tried with and without the SIM card.... with no success.
Why that?
Thanks...

a good news... I updated my device via Bridge for Mac...

Now I am wondering: why the PC version needs the procedure you know and the Mac version make all steps by itself?
Hi Everyone!
I'm also facing the same issue of not being able my Xperia Z Ultra to update to the latest firmware.
I purchased my set 5 days back and found that the set reboots itself while usage. Not very frequently but it rebooted itself twice on the first day.
Initially I did a hard reset to see if that resolves the issue - it was fine for 2 days but after that it again rebooted.
I assumed it to be a software issue and I hoped that update to the latest firmware would solve the issue. But after all my efforts, I am unable to update it to the latest firmware.
When I connect it to my PC (Windows 7), the PC Companion detects that an update is available for the phone [Firmware 417] - But finally the process fails at the stage of 'Downloading Software' and I get Error 1800.
I've tried the following:
1. Restarting the PC and Phone and then try.
2. Remove the SIM and SD Card from the phone and try.
3. After failing the 1st attempt, when PC Companion suggests to re-try by shutting down the phone and then pressing the volume down button while inserting the USB Cable to phone.
4. Have also tried updating using 'Sony Update Service' instead of PC Companion.
5. Found a post in some other forum similar to this problem but for 'Xperia Z' - where it was happening due to a defective USB cable.
- I have tried multiple times using 3 different cables : 2 Original SONY Cable and 1 Nokia Cable.
I don't have access to a Mac.
Please suggest any solution if someone else faced this issue and found the solution.

Ok so you did try with different US cables but what about different USB port. I know thats quite obvious but sometimes small things make big difference.

Completely locked. Stock, no mods. I used Bridge when I got the phone to migrate my S3 and iphone content. Which it did much better than the Samsung Kies, thank-you very much.
It would just hang on the "Talking to update server".

I don't have access to a Mac system
I thought of flashing the .417 firmware by downloading the .ftf file and flashing it manually using Xperia Flash Tool.
--------
How to Update manually Xperia phone by flashing ftf file via Xperia Flash Tool
http://www.xperiaguide.com/2013/05/...e-by-flashing-ftf-file-via-xperia-flash-tool/
Unlocking the boot loader - Official SONY method
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Download C6802_14.1.B.0.471_GENERIC Hong Kong.ftf | 779 MB
http://www.xperiaguide.com/2013/08/...droid-4-2-2-14-1-b-0-471-firmware-update-ftf/
--------
But since this method required to unlock the boot-loader mandatorily and as unlocking of the same would make my 1 week old Z Ultra out of warranty... i was not pretty sure if I wanted to unlock the bootloader :-|
Also, while downloading the 779 MB of the .ftf file - my internet connection took 3 hours, but yes I was able to download the same. [It is hosted in Google docs site]
This made me think that there might be some issues with the Sony servers from where the Sony PC Companion and the Update Manager tries to download the required ftf file. So thought of giving it another try after some days.
Its quite possible that in few days we will get the firmware .475
I am able to update the firmware to the latest .475 using Sony Update Service. [There is nothing new I did]
When I connected to the PC Companion, it showed that a new update is available - Firmware .475. I initiated the update process but as previously... it failed after some time. Then I tried using Update Service.
The download of 849.9 MB file started but failed around 459 MB.
I again started the update using Update Service and to my surprise it resumed the download from 450 MB. This time it was able to download the file to 100% without any issues. And once the file was downloaded 100% - the update process was done in a couple of minutes.
1. I selected the option of Factory Reset and upgrade.
2. I had the simcard and SD card removed from the set before start of the upgrade process.
3. I made sure that the battery was 100% charged.
But finally i think it was a file download issue only. Since it is a huge file, somehow the download was getting interrupted for whatever reason and it was failing previously.
Thanks everyone!
