I went through and read everything in the Super Thread - twice.
I went through and flashed the stock Rogers ICS 4.0.4 rom to the phone and then rooted it by flashing the cwm kernal in the instructions. My phone is successfully rooted and it is not reverting to the stock android recovery.
I went through and disabled all the Rogers bloatware and restarted the phone and now it isn't enabling itself automatically. Score one for patience and good advice.
I use Petro Canada Mobility pay as you go. They are a reseller of Rogers and the price is right until my ISP launches their wireless service.
I went through and set the phone so that is uses gsm/wcdma bands only - no LTE as it isn't available in my province as of yet. I set up Petro Canada's APN settings and save. I restart the phone and the phone automatically defaults back to Rogers APN settings. The APN that I created is gone - *poof* I can't count how many times in the last 24 hours I have reset this phone
What the heck am I missing here cause I can't figure it out. Why won't it save my APN settings? I got the rest of the kinks worked out and now this??
Do the Bell and Telus versions of this phone have the same quirks cause if they don't, I'll gladly flash their roms.
Help please!
I would leave the network to auto.
When you make an APN and save it, then select it, it disappears?
Can you edit the default Rogers APN?
Is your phone carrier unlocked?

When I make an APN and and save it, it is fine until I restart the phone. The minute I restart the APN disappears. I can edit the Rogers APN and save the changes. When I restart, it reverts to it's default settings. It is not carrier unlocked. Because my mobility carrier is a reseller of Rogers, my sim card works with it. There was no need to unlock it.
It seems like you need to unlock it, because you can't use any other carrier's APN, you're locked on Rogers.
Have you rooted it? Since that is the cheaper route, maybe being rooted will let you permanently create the correct APN.
Yes I have it rooted. Still the same issue.
Run a good nandroid backup ....
Then enter the new APN into the device ....
Then delete the old APN , then reboot ...
If the new APN sticks, then run a new backup and delete the old one ...
These devices can be temperamental on occasion ....g
Edit :
And yes ...you may be locked at this point, and stuck on Rogers ...g
I went through and unlocked the phone, stuck in a Bell Sim card and it recognized it right away. I went through completely reset the phone again, entered in my APN settings, and restarted. The settings disappeared. I am told that the Bell, Rogers, and Telus variants are all the same so I am going to flash one of their roms on the phone to see if I have better luck.
Well I flashed a different rom - Bell and that fixed the issue. It was the stock rogers rom that was causing me grief.
So my next question is this - anyone have any ideas on what Rom is better? The Telus or the Bell one?

I just flashed my atrix to the new Telstra sbf, and I'm having trouble connecting to the bell data network. Can someone let me know what settings to use when entering the apn. Thanks!

your apn settings probably got erased with the new sbf
going to post a tut in the dev.
I'm in South Korea, using a sony x10. I wasn't sure if the latest gingerbread update would be released in my region, so I decided to flash the firmware myself to the latest stock gingerbread (2.3.3).
Afterwords I lost 3g access and my carrier says it's my fault or nothing they can do.
Afterwards, I rooted the phone and installed a custom kernel and still it's not available(I figured it was worth a shot).
I can see and select my mobile service provider(Sk telecom) in the list of data service providers, but my phone is not downloading any APN info from my carrier.
Any advice?
Hi,
search for APN information from your provider in the internet and enter them manually.
Somehow my APN got two additional letters and I had no 3G. I corrected the information manually and all is fine now.

You need to set up your wireless apn go to:
menu/settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network mode/gsm/wcdma preferred (click it)
Then Back button/Back button/sony ericsson/settings download then wait a few you will see it (3g/H) flash on (you do not have to click it it's just saying that is your network) then go to:
Back button/wireless & networks/mobile networks/access point name. there should be two apns
one wireless/one mmsc. if for some reason you have three make sure that the top one (the house icon 3g) is checked or you will be roaming
And always remember to backup your Settings and APNs,and anything else you need to keep. There are free apps on the market to do that but the pro/key versions have more settings and help the developers and no adware. Hope this helps if not all be here tomorrow or i'm sure someone else will help too i do have some apns just tell us what network your on an we can help you set them up. Good luck
No APN info shows up at all. If I go to Sk telecom service center, can they give me the info to manually input it?
My network is for SK telecom in South Korea. Any other info you need about the network?
You can try an all see if i can find it. So give me a day and all post it
Sorry no luck that an Three other Country's i can't get for some reason. It's a bummer
Maybe someone else here can help.
I have found no threads with this exact problem. I am new to smart phones, I bought an unlocked S2 gt-I9100, I checked to make sure it read my sim card before buying..it did..but didn't realize the data wasn't working. So I've searched high and low and now I'm here. When you go to APN and open it all it has at the top is APN, you can't access anything. I tried various programs to achieve this but they all say "your android phone does not allow automatic APN setup" So I try to manually do it and it pops the APN page up and you can't do anythng but the program is in the notification thing at the top thinking it is working I guess. Not syre what info on the phone you need.
Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
Execulink - I guess was the phone company in Canada
Version 4.0.3
Build number ULTIMOBILE-SGS2-4.0.3-EXE-071212-2.1
If you need anything else let me know, Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

If you want to set up APN manually, go to
Setting>more setting>mobile network>access point name>
then press menu and choose new apn.
you need to ask your service provider to fill up APN, MCC, MNC etc;
and then, press menu and save apn.

I have tried that, I have all the info as far as APN,MCC,MNC ect. from my other phone.
When I go into Apn there is no menu. All you have is at the top Is a gear looking thing and APNs, thats it. It will not open to allow any changes or add a new APN.
Did you tried a custom ROM?

Not sure what you mean by custom ROM, I have tried multiple apps that say you can set up an APN the latest one I tried was giffgaff APN.
They all failed to open it so I can edit and they all state "your android phone does not allow automatic APN setup"

Ok I see what you mean by ROM, No I haven't tried any custom ROM's
No Warranty bought it used and unlocked.
Is there a custom ROM that can fix this?
OK, solved it, As I said I tried apps to no success unlocking the APN to edit, So you mentioned custom ROM's and I did some research.
So first I rooted my phone then added theGT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.1.4.tar then flashed the newest version of the Rootbox Jelly Bean ROM to my phone and fired it up and The APN was not only unlocked it was already set up to my provider and the data was working.
I tried adding the truth77supergapps-4.2-jb for the apps but it would crash as the phone started.
Thanks a bunch for the help I'm not sure how to change the title of the thread to solved though.
I tried multiple Gapps created by different people and all crashed at start up. So went looking and found lots of people having issues with, Trebuchet not responding, so I looked for a rom that didn't use it.
So I found this Avatar ROM 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM For Galaxy S2 I9100 and Flashed it on my phone and flashed gapps-jb-20121011-signed, to get my google apps and it went perfectly into the phone so now I have data and my google apps.
Hello,
I have Koodo Mobile which is a sub brand of Telus. From using the Telus stock ROM, the Canadian Custom ICS ROM and others, only the first two ROMS mentioned allow me to connect via LTE, the rest only connect as high as HSPA+.
I'd prefer to stay rooted and use the Canadian Custom ICS rom, but there's one problem. I save the Koodo SP Access Point Name and it works fine, until I reboot and then it disappears. I've tried this several times and on a few reboots, I went straight to the APN settings and I watched as the Koodo SP APN showed up for a few seconds, then got deleted, possibly by some process???
So I started looking for APN files on my Android that I could edit to have the Telus APN changed to the Koodo APN info or create another APN (Koodo SP) that will stay listed after a reboot.
I found an APN file in /etc but after editing it, saving and rebooting, it didn't change anything.
Can someone please help! It's a pain having to reenter the APN every time I want to use data after a reboot.
I've ruled out everything I could think of, and the best this did was just give me 4G (7MB/sec downloads), and not 4G LTE (used to get 35MB/sec and up).
Things I've tried (with proper wiping/cleaning cache, data, system, dalvik cache before every single flash):
1- Unlock the SM-G900T, and add the IMEI to my account on att
2- check with att that LTE is working
3- get a new SIM card anyway because I'm paranoid!!!
4- Flash NG3 stock on the device, flash it back to NCH
5- Root the device, flash TWRP, and CM based Slim ROM on the device, and com.android. ... error
6- flash back to stock
7- APN is correct, ATT Phone APN and LTE is selected
What I noticed now is that typing *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer does nothing, and I mean nothing! It just sits there.
What am I missing here? (besides the rest of hair I had left on my head)
RESOLVED: It was a brilliant att agent that messed up my data plan while switching IMEI numbers!!! Lesson learned; think outside the box.
Glad you got it resolved.
Please edit your title so people can see easily see that too.
This is actually a common result and one of the most basic trouble shooting steps would be confirming that your SIM card is properly provisioned for LTE.. which usually requires a call to the carrier to check your account settings from the carrier side.
Enjoy your faster phone.
.
I thought you aren't suppose to give att your imei if it's a tmobile device?
