It makes everything essentially smaller/bigger depending on what you set it to. Usually people set it lower so that everything shrinks and you can fit more on your screen. Paranoidandroid actually has per app DPI i believe so that you can change different apps such as email/gmail so that instead of the screen you see on your phone, you can make it look like a tablet with the menus on one side with the mail on the other.

I am on Samsung ROM: 4.0.4 xxlpx. I changed the DPI and the icons look good, but the issue is that the icons does not seem take the advantage of complete screen. so the space on the bottom and right is left unused not sure if there is any way to have the complete screen size to be utilized.
Find attached pic, and as you can see the right hand space is unused and also the page number that shows up, that the end of the usable space.(marked in Red)
Any thoughts on how to make that extra space available ?
Thanks

Try a different launcher. With nova or apex you can choose how many rows of apps you can have. (not sure you can do that with the stock one)

Thanks a lot I've been waiting for this
I installed the APK but I cannot find a way to switch keyboards. Any advice?
EDIT: Found it! When the additional keyboard is enabled (Settings->Languages & Keyboard->Android Keyboard ON), a keyboard icon appears in the notification bar. Dragging down the notification bar shows "Select input method" which then allows for a kb switch.

After you install go into settings, then language settings and enable it, then find an input field, like in messages, then in the status bar you will see the select input, click that and select the android keyboard and you'll be good

This really is quite silly of Samsung. The keyboard has auto prediction and in my experience the auto prediction works quite well. The problem is that the keyboard will only input what you actually type regardless of whether or not it's correct. If you want to enter a predicted word you have to tap it yourself. I can't imagine it would be too difficult for Samsung to change the keyboard to favor the top predicted word, which would essentially be auto correct.
I'm still using the Samsung keyboard though because I'm getting along with the Swiftkey flow integration rather nicely.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I'm actually really happy for the number row since I use numbers frequently and it was a pain having to constantly toggle it on/off. And, that auto-correction is disabled as I usually disable it any. Just had to turn off auto-spacing and auto-capitalization because it was wreaking havoc on authenticating into web sites like this one as it was adding a space in-between my password. Good riddance I say...

It is reported that upcoming 4.1.2 (not 4.2) enhancements will include integrated "swyping" functionality into the keyboard so it wouldnt make sense for them not to rectify the autocorrection issue.

Did the stock Sammy JB keyboard in the GS3 have no autocorrect either? Or does that phone still run ICS?
I might just have to switch to Swiftkey or Thumb Keyboard again - but that number row is GREAT - it is hard to turn away from it.
Yeah I went back to the stock samsung keyboard just cuz of the numbers... silly but I'm loving it! Just hooing for auto-correction. Maybe if they dont fix it someone will come out with a 3rd party with numbers!
Tappin from my Marble White Note II
Yup, no autocorrect. I'm using Swiftkey now.
It seems the Samsung keyboard is actually a variation of the swiftkey flow. I wonder if it's something to do with that. The flow part works pretty well and I love the number row

Mainly wondering if there is a way to get the samsung board on aosp roms. I really like having the #'s row, ability to swipe, and have one handed option all in one board. I honestly like the aosp board better in terms of word prediction and typing accuracy but reaching that # button in the bottom left-hand corner is a pain for me. Is it possible? What are good alternatives?
Google keyboard or swiftkey. Doesn't have a number row but you can make the long press key time extremely short and it makes typing numbers so fast as if its just letters

I have a few paid keyboards and my favorite is kii keyboard. It also has the number row option.
Have tried and purchased probably every keyboard out there over the last two years. My favorite so far is ironically the Google Keyboard. Super simple and works good. Does everything I need it to and does it well.
Only ironic because its free and still better than most paid keyboards. Although no numbers row is slightly disappointing I feel like it is something we will see down the road.

I have to agree with the above poster. Kii Keyboard is my favorite. I use it on most of my devices, including my Note II. It has all the features of the Samsung Keyboard and many many more, including themes, recolors, and even the ability to take the appearance of other popular keyboards. I love having the ability to customize it to fit my needs for the day or task. Link below to get it from the Play Store.

It always has to a degree. It doesn't come straight out and give that option, it like most things takes a bit of tweaking. Since I have quite large hands, it never has been an issue for me so I didn't both writing down the exact settings I used to achieve it, but under keyboard layout, you would pick the keyboard layout you want, then go further down and mess with either the left or right padding options based on where you want it, and that quickly and easily creates a one-handed keyboard that you can fully adjust the sizing of as you desire by just tweaking those settings.

You cand find it in some thread in the forums, i had it since the first version of jellybean.
The problem I found is that the keyboard doesn't display the emojis, I don't know why, because we have the emoji font already.

Maybe it requires some frameworks to detect the emoji font in system, but anyways, the new emoji keyboard works very well in my phone.
You can use it on whatsapp for example, but you can't see the emojis you tap in the keyboard.
Well emoji is working good with just the apk and lib...However, its still a hassle to use as you have to enable it under settings, and once enabled you have no access to regular keyboards...now im assuming the google keyboard from 4.3 leak has a shortcut to the emojis however im having dificulty getting it to work on the stock rom, it doesnt seem to want to load when enabled and also causes massive lag throughout the system when enabled...tomorrow ill get a logcat to see what im missing...and hopefully im not wasting my time

Maybe im missing something....the emoji part works as did my other emoji keyboard from 4.3...but what I want is a normal keybiard that has a shortcut to the emojis on the keyboard...that way I dont have to go into my setting every time I want to use an emoji.
Now in the zip I noticed it does have "iWnnIME_Kbd_White.apk" and " iWnnIME.apk" the second is the emoji keyboard...the first looks like its supposed to be a regular keyboard, however it never pops up in my settings as an input method...for you does this install a regular keyboard as well? Or do you also have to go into settings everytime to use the emojis...
Was able to figure out a work around by installing the Google keyboard from the market, deleting all other keyboards including Samsung's and swype, then under settings of both googles and the emoji keyboard check the option "switch to other input methods" this places a new key next to the space bar that when pressed switches to a different input method...you can long press it to select a diff one or just quick press it and it will switch to the next one...by deleting all other keyboards I only have one other keyboard so it by default it just switches between the Google keyboard and emoji now

I still can't see emojis in keyboard or interface, I only can see some symbols and squares. What could be my problem??
Can I check whether you're sure that you extracted this iWnnIME.apk from the system apps in Android 4.3?
Reason why I'm asking is that iWnn IME is actually a 3rd party IME that's available in Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.omronsoft.iwnnime.ml.sc04d&hl=en). I find it difficult to believe that Google would include it as a bundled IME in their factory images.
Can you verify this? Thank you.
