Glass by Google - Motorola Photon 4G

This isn't neccesarily related to the photon in any way shape or form. You are just the community I talk to on xda.
So I wanted to know who was looking forward to the release of Google Glass in 2013-2014?
Price is projected to be between $1000 and $2000. Ill most likely end up getting them but it all depends.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium

I am, but the price you posted is for the developers edition I think commercial version Will be more cheap
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app

While I'm not a developer, I'm very excited to see what developers do with this technology.
When it does become available for actual use by consumers I may wait due to the price as noted above.
That seems like a lot of dough to shell out. But I think that once we see what the capabilities are and how
we can integrate Google Glass usage into our lives, I and many others will be more comfortable
purchasing them.
I just hope they come in different colors and work all OS versions. Please no more fragmentation.

This is a sad day for pure android lovers. We will be missing the main man behind cyanogenmode. We will be missing samsung,HTC,Acer and may be LG from the main android scenario cause moto will get the first mover advantage for any new android release.Google will treat all other manufactures as second citizens and guss what Microsoft is waiting for this, they are already offering profit sharing between partners.

from the link in the first post:
In one of most important news from Android hacking scene, Steve Kondik aka Cyanogen has announced via his Facebook profile that he now works for Samsung Mobile. This lead developer and founder of CyanogenMod also stated that his side project CM is not affiliated in any way with this employer.
There is no word on how this will impact CyanogenMod, but there shouldn’t be much. CyanogenMod is a result from community of devs, with Steve contributing significantly to it.

May be but I am concerned about the second problem. Users don't want android to be in the hands of one company.we need more companies following android it can give us more choice more freedom and value for money.obviously we need Samsung for sgs2,HTC for their sense, sony for that PlayStation controlls,Acer for their value for money approach and LG for their **** coding.

Honestly, when I look around in the XDA forums and see how many mods you can find for a given phone model, most of them running faster and better then stock rom, I always wonder how come none of these talented programmers are not hired by the phone companies. Most of the time, in the software team they have people who miss the passion that these devs have.
On the other hand, it will be interesting to see how much he will be able to work for Samsung, as any big company has a lot of rules and regulations to follow, that he might not be very fond of.
So what's next?
We can expect Microsoft to pick up RIM and HTC much like it picked up Nokia, lock down computer hardware manufacturers with stringent guidelines and add stores to compete with Apple on service. Apple will aggressively build out its cloud infrastructure and beef up AppleTV to fend off the XBox. Google will continue to beef up its productivity apps and focus on consumer hardware. All three will compete on the next generation of answers-oriented, Siri-like search.
Even the carriers could be in play, with former Apple President Jean-Louis Gassée predicting that Google will acquire TMobile. Sound crazy? Comon Google needs stores to compete with Apple and Microsoft. And owning a carrier just raises the stakes for the other two even further. Its no crazier than Google buying Motorola. Game on.

Cyanogen to make Android 'more awesome'
Free whitepaper – CIOs feel the pressure to optimize the online experience
The creator of one of the most popular Android modification kits has taken a job as a software engineer with Samsung's mobile device unit.
Steve Kondik, the hobbyist hacker behind CyanogenMod software, confirmed the appointment with Samsung Mobile on his Facebook page and to several bloggers.
“I will be working on making Android more awesome,” he told AndroidandMe.
In a dispatch to AndroidGuys, Kondik indicated he had no plans to step away from CyanogenMod:
... it's a job and I'm glad that I can use what I learned from all this to do something cool in the real world I'll still be doing code review and some leadership for CM, but I'll be keeping it legit like always. ... I think we really broke away from the modding community. Most of us are professional engineers or in the field some way or another.

No doubt there, mobile is the future. Plus its not Facebooks first foray into phones, but maybe they will be more serious this time.
HTC wouldn't sell, not to them, not now. They have way to much to loose if they sell, but much to gain if they remain as partners.
I don't see this as a wise business decision for HTC to sell out to Facebook (out of anyone else they can sell themselves to...) HTC holds to many patents and technology secrets that Facebook wouldn't know how to handle or value.

New FaceBook Phone?
According to the New York Times, Facebook “has already hired more than half a dozen former Apple software and hardware engineers who worked on the iPhone, and one who worked on the iPad”.
“Mark [Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO] is worried that if he doesn’t create a mobile phone in the near future that Facebook will simply become an app on other mobile platforms,” a Facebook employee told the Times.
quoted from this source:
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/why-a-facebook-phone-doesnt-stand-a-chance/20574?tag=nl.e539
A team of former Apple engineers. That will do it eh?
CNN also reporting:

Bad idea.
Microsoft holds almost half of the company.
If FB do this... it will mean that MS is buying HTC under the table.

HTC One F???
This is not gonna happen. As a matter of fact, if FB stock keeps dropping like a rock as it has since it's initial offering, it won't be buying much of anything. lol

Maybe a great marketing idea?

Yes this may never work, but currently at the end of my shift at work, and I started thinking what would really show people what's going on behind the scenes with Apple suing HTC and Samsung. And this is the idea that I came up with, with the idea that it probably would never work, but hey its just a thought lol.
We've seen HTC comparing itself to Samsungs GSIII, just trying to compare itself. What if HTC and Samsung did it together with Google as the head supporter of Android, with a headline of something around, "Apple's run scared, attempting to ban these phones from you." Or "Meet the phones that Apple is terrified off..." Something in that sense to stir up curiousity and interest in. And on my mind, YMMV, I picture the OG EVO commercials with the Andrioids flying around the phone and showing it off with quotes from reviews.
But in the end, a for more info go to here, to show the potential customer what is going on since none of Apple's lawsuits are very big in the news unfortunately.
Obviously HTC and Sammy fans don't get along too well, but the Android OEMS seriously need to stick together for some time if they're ever going to have a chance if Apple keeps chipping away at them with court.
Reminder, this is just my personal opinion, but please share what you think of it. Or what you would add / change because I'm curious of this would ever be a true way to really give Apple some SERIOUSLY BAD PR, or if I'm just some nut case, who needs to get a job with daytime hours lol.

Anyways, I like your idea. Don't think it's gonna happen though.
You know the iPhone's use of google maps generates 40% of Google's income? And now that Apple is deciding to make its own map app to replace Google maps as the default in iPhone it seems like an all out break in the companies.
Apple isn't innovating anymore, all they're doing is filing stupid patents and suing. They'll probably win because they are on top and have the $ to pay lawyers where other companies don't.
Sorry about the rant, I usually post on android central. Come here to check out the mods and roms so I don't post much.

I don't know what the percentage is but I bet it's a good amount, much more than 2% but no where near 40%.
"Mobile ads associated with maps and location data account for about a quarter of all mobile ad revenue. That's money Apple wants and Google doesn't want to lose out on."
http://www.businessinsider.com/wsj-apple-will-ditch-google-maps-on-ios-later-this-year-2012-6
It would be a much bigger blow if Apple were to get rid of Google search all together but I do feel the maps thing will put a bit of a dent in Google's bottom line.

I agree, I'm just saying it's going to sting a bit at Google. Hopefully it might help them get on the manufacturers and carriers a bit more to make sure they're selling quality products, I love Android but some of the stuff that gets put out there is absolute crap.
I know this thread has gotten off topic so I say to the OP, that might help if Google were to advertize. They make almost all their money off of ads but don't advertize themselves. The carriers do advertize phones a bit but they're more interested in selling you on their network than a specific phone. Not to mention the fact 3 of the 4 national carriers sell the iPhone so they wouldn't put down one of their own products.

Lol at least someone understands where I'm coming from. I doubt this will ever work but it was just an idea at the time.
But overall, I feel Google needs to help the OEMs stick together, for some amount of time, just to make it harder for Apple to try to make its dream of shutting Android down. Yes it would be hard, but on their current path, they may get their chance.
I laughed at some of the comments, but I guess the question I was trying to get around to ask,
Do you think google and the OEMs should make commercials with Google as the headliner to tell the world what Apple is suing about? I think if the overall general public knew, besides us tech enthusiasts , maybe people would see Apple for who they really are...
Just my two cents, and go!

This is actually what I've been hoping would happen for quite a while. It's much easier to pick them off one by one than to attack a united front. Unfortunately the all-mighty (dollar, euro, whatever) always wins out. If the manufacturers and Google could put aside their differences and come together and attack Apple, I think Apple would be forced to back down. For the first time in 4 years Android's world-wide usage dropped last quarter. It only dropped about 0.6% (from, I think, 51% to 50.4%) but a drop none the less. Symbian had over 50% of the market 4yrs ago, now it's dead. "Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it" -Winston Churchill

GS3 injunction
First, the injunction obtained was a preliminary injunction based on a utility patent related to the universal search on the gnex. Somehow, apple was able to prove that they would be "irreparably harmed" absent an injunction based on this one patent. I still don't know how this is possible because it involves showing that people will buy the Gnex over the iphone because of this one feature.
Second, since it is a preliminary injunction based on a software element, all samsung has to do is change the disputed software element slightly. This is what allowed them to resume selling the SGSII in europe, and I believe the galaxy tab but I could be wrong. Once the change is implemented, voila, injunction pending final court decision.
Samsung, if they were smart, could very easily fix this situation by rolling out a software update. Also, I believe the judge said that this would clog an already over crowded docket, and this should be addressed at their trial date at the end of july. i guess if anything were to happen, it'd have to be after july 30th anyways
I think its interesting to note that apple has very little design patents succeeding on the merits, and really just minuscule utility patents for things like the lock screen and universal search. And I don't believe that's the reason any of US actually buy these phones.
I'm interested to hear other's thoughts on this, too
Sources: patentlyo.com, the verge and engadget's recent articles on Koh's denial of injunction on SGSIII. I can't post links yet because i'm too new. Also studying patent law in law school.

It's not just the design or design at all. That was for the Galaxy Tab and SGS1. It's the software and how we open up links with different apps, etc.

This.
Apple's not going after Samsung or HTC per se, their after Google and Android in general. Since Google doesn’t produce their own h/w, Apple’s going after their partners that do. The injunction they just won is based on a feature integral to Android and with a victory (preliminary, it could still be overturned at trial and appeal after that) there's nothing stopping them from quickly applying the same argument to just about every Android device produced. I fully expect they will and of all the targets out there I can’t think of a better one than the SGS3. Second would be killing the Nexus 7 before it gets a chance to launch. HTC seems to be the weakest Gazelle so they may start there to get a few more notches in their belt before going after Samsung again. Sad really. All of Apple’s victories still won’t make me buy their products. I’d get a Windows phone if that was the only other option.
Samsung's different than the other manufacturer’s Apple's going after because of the "slavish copying" thing. Clearly the SGS1 and early G-Tab's were influenced by Apple's design. There’s a good chance that’ll get thrown out at one or more trials (or appeals) though based on "prior art;" meaning Apple got the patent but on designs that are document to have preceded theirs. The SGS3 is safe because of the "designed by lawyers" thing.

There's no doubt that this is an excellent Android Superphone and we all love it. I thought it will really help if we write reviews of this phone on few of the website so that people considering this phone will be comfortable in buying it.
I started with the following websites and will do more as I find them:

I will encourage you folks, whoever can spare few minutes to write reviews on the given websites and others. This will increase sales of this phone and will encourage LG to provide better support.

This is a good idea, but I'm still worried. I have the Canadian variant, and I held out to get it until I was sure it could be unlocked. But despite it being unlocked really quickly, and the beastly specs of the phone I'm surprised that there is still no further development. I'm remaining positive for the time being, and I'm keeping a close eye on all three LGOG forums. Doesn't help that there is already talk of the LGOG2 for the spring.

Great. Keep the reviews flowing and spread the word guys. This phone is underrated and by doing this we are helping ourselves.

No offense but LG or AT&T are not going to provide support... They never have since they all suck big time.
Only support will be from the awesome xda developers

Normally i would agree but right now LG is in a position to reinvent their smartphone reputation. And them going with google(n4) and this ridiculously overpowered phone they could make it happen. But the word would need to be spread by people that they arent selling a **** product anymore. Since their rep is so bad a couple mainstream ****ty reviews could tank any chance they have. If they want to keep a steady increase of good reviews they will need to keep the devices well supported.
Just my 2c.
