Calling all Developers!! (Posted here for a Reason) - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

YES, I KNOW THAT ALL QUESTIONS GO IN THE Q&A FORUMS BUT ITS HERE TO GET THE DEVELOPERS. SINCE I HAVEN'T FOUND ANY PERSON THAT CAN HANDLE SUCH SITUATION. (Please read ahead to take note of the problem clearly)
Please think of this as to help me (and other people who made these dead like this one). Don't comment "Questions go in the Q&A forum you friggin' NOOB". I know all of this stuff!!!!!
How it happened??:-
Rooted the phone using CF Root 6.4. Working "Perfectly"!
Did an OTA update (0.17MB) accidently. Encountered Random Reboots after then.
Then it won't boot at all
Stuck at the "GT-i9300" logo.
I HAVE THE NANDROID BACKUP BUT WON'T GO INTO THE RECOVERY SO ITS USELESS (is there any way to do it without the Recovery??)
Current situation:-
No Recovery. Tried Re-flashing the Official ROM and Re-rooting it. Either doesn't shows up or when shows up stays for 2 seconds and then goes to the GT-i9300 Logo.
Download mode is PRESENT.
Charges with NO PROBLEMS. Shows the Battery Logo going up and the Blue LED comes on too.
It once gave an error saying : "E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted."
It also gave a similar one in the above but with some other error. I didn't noticed it.
Odin Flashes WITHOUT any errors(no errors within the Odin). Writes the Firmware completely but unable to proceed due to some unknown reason.
I have tried these:-
Changed the NAND Memory Chip. Still the exact same problem. (Partition problem or something?)
J-Tagged it. No use!
Flashed all the Official ROMs via Odin.
Re-Rooted it. No use. Recovery isn't stable. Keeps rebooting after 2 seconds to the GT-i9300 Logo.
Please take this Question very seriously. Since its not just me with the same problem. There are many many other people with the same problem and with no solutions. Isn't this the main reason of XDA-Developer? Or is it just ROMs, Themes or Kernels? A person would be more happy if he gets his/her phone repaired instead of lying there on the desk and keeping those papers in there place and stop them being blown away from the fan!
For the moderators:- I know this isn't in the rules of the XDA to post a Question in the Android Development Section but this is here to summon all the ROM Developers and the Kernel Tweakers. Thank You for your valuable time!

Download *.tar file from sammobile. As you have download option live, you can flash the same with help of Odin (for ICS)

Flash A Stock ICS ROM with Odin.
Get them from Sammobile or from a thread with stock rom collections.
Even get an Galaxy S3 .pit file for odin.
That will fix it.
Just to keep you happy, Most Samsung Devices are unbrickable. As long as it boots, even if its in bootloop it can get fixed with odin.
Keep us updated.

Sorry, even questions like this go into the Q&A, that's where the devs are, aswell..
Anyway, go to this website and create an account.
Download latest JB/ICS ROM and get a .pit file. Open Odin and flash away..
Done, your phone is working again..

Moved to Q/A, there is no reason to post this in the development section.

That is the problem!! No one in the Q&A section answered like u guys have :/
All I get told was "give it to the Service Center".
Anyway! Which PIT file should I flash. A Procedure would be nice. My Last firmware was 4.0.4 don't know the number.

Ohk so I found it from the Nandroid Backup. It was I9300XXBLG8 I also found something written as IMM76D
But this was before the OTA update. Can someone tell me about the .pit file for it?
Which .pit file should I use?

I gave it to a person here in the phone market. He also J-tags it. He had a spare broken motherboard. he changed the NAND Flash Memory Unit by himself. He said it is in the same condition as it was before. So no problem to the NAND Flash Memory Unit is done.

Suggest that you join sammobile as posted and use stock firmware .
Sammobile has a forum and you may get more information regarding a PIT file there .

Hey! I didn't noticed its JJE!
I remembered u helped me alot in the previous Threads I made!
I downloaded the U.K version. Which is the one I had according to the Nandroid Backup I made.
I opened the "system.ext4.tar" by WinZip.
Saw a CSCVersion.txt file.
It had written "I9300OXABLG8" on it.
Also in the "build.prop" file (Opened by Notepad) I saw I9300XXBLG8 written aswell.
So I downloaded that one.
So I have only one Question:
Which PIT File should I put? :/
I see 5 of them :-
GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit
GT-I9300_mx_20120322.pit
GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit
M0_20120220.pit
mx.pit
Which one?

should be the last one...

Why don't you just spare yourself numerous headaches by sending the phone in for repair? Just say it died on you or something.

If you flash the wrong pit file or if the pit file fails to flash, you might destroy your nand memory. The pit file is the partition table, hence you should be very careful.

Problem with Odin - can't root or install

I am not a noob and have flashed hundreds of time so please refrain from posting without helping.
I have searched a lot but could not find any similar thread.
So I am posting here.
I have inadvertently flagged "re-partition" when flashing an official Rom with Odin and now when trying to flash any different Rom I can't go through the entire process - same thing when trying to flash some clockworkmod recovery.
Error is like in the image that I am posting here.
No way to have some other remedy.
Could you help me please?
since you flashed official rom, you may need to root it from the beginning. did you try this?
well i will call you a noob cause you posted this question in the wrong section...next time post it in the Q&A section..that is why it is there for....

but to give you a little hint (eventhough everyone is going to hate me cause i answered and even made an attempt to help) look for roms which are MADE to be flashed WITH repartition enabled (you will need a pit file as well). also: your phone aint rooted. root it via odin and then have a look.
@mods: please delete thread
ok hard reset the phone by going into the Samsung recovery i think its volume up + power + home, but Google the hard reset procedure or YouTube it, after hard resetting root it and it should be ok, hope this helps, all the best.

exactly...im all for helping people out even if the question has been asked so many times but bloody get your question in the right forum.... and then he says dont call him a noob silly boy
Get firmware, get .pit file for Galaxy S2 use Odin with .pit and repartition enabled to flash the firmware.
Actually, you don't really need a *.pit file, you can also use a Sbl.bin file.
You aren't really using an official rom, more like someone's dump of an official rom. It might be missing stuff, or have stuff added.
Official ROM contents: (Inside the *.tar file)
boot.bin
cache.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
zImage
It seems that the partitions are all gone, therefore your phone is unable to mount partitions that are already gone. Fortunately, your bootloader is still working which is why you are able to access your download mode, and somehow still able to access your recovery, which is probably written into the only intact partition.
Download an OFFICIAL ROM with a *.pit or Sbl.bin file which contains the partition information, and then use ODIN to flash again.
Your EFS might be missing as well, so the modem might not be able to work. Modem is the one that controls your phone calls and data through GSM/WCDMA.
Use Fus Downloader 2.0 and download the latest FULL OFFICIAL ROM for your phone, then flash and repartition your phone.
Now that I have helped...
YOU ARE A NOOB!!!
unzip u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.zip
use odin, click pit select u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit,click start

[q] please help!

Well after my Samsung GSII got licked by a dog, a slow black was spreading across my screen like a cancer, I sent it to get fixed. Got it back and everything was working fine. But since my operator has a custom OS thats is Hebrew only, I usually flash a different ROM, this time I didn't even get to it. I rooted my phone, it worked, and when I was installing Clockworkmod recovery, my phone bricked, I fixed the brick by using a official Samsung OS, 2.3.6 I think, and this is where I think things went bad. First my phone started thinking its an Epic 4G, than a S1, a note, and now its back to thinking its an S2. Inside the OS my home button doesn't work, but I can access Recovery and Download, can't use home button in recovery though, it wont let me. And whenever I try to flash a different rom, Odin always gets stuck at "Nand Write Start!!" and than it says "Complete(write) operation failed", I have had no success with anything since than.
Summarized:
Home button works since I can access Download and Recovery, but I can't use it in recovery.
My phone keeps thinking its a different phone.
Odin wont let me flash anything with a "NAND write start!!" I have had success flashing kernels though.
Thanks in advance, I really dont wanna take my phone to be repaired again, only got it back yesterday
Why don't you start with the basics and tell us your exact model number (found under your battery) and what you've actually flashed on your phone since getting it back from repair to get you into this mess.
Models GT-I9100T
The only things ive flashed are:
Clockworkmod
And when I got into the brick mode I surfed the internet, and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18859438&postcount=199
Which has also been flashed, and my friend told me to try N.E.A.K which has also been flashed, and a stock kernel. Thats all I think, if I remember anything else ill add it, but im pretty sure thats all.
In that case, you've flashed something meant for the I777 on your I9100T.
Flash a stock I9100T ROM and don't just flash willy nilly on your device in future lest you'll end up with an expensive paperweight.
Mind linking me one? i really dont wanna mess something up again.
Thanks in advance ^^

I do, because your blatant disregard for the rules annoys me, but I guess I will anyway.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 or http://www.samfirmware.com/
I don't really understand how you can mess up again, with the knowledge that you have an I9100T, not an I777 or any other random device you feel like flashing the firmware for.
Both me and you completly disregarded something, I still can't flash anything because it just stops at "Nand write start!!" and than says "complete(write) operation failed"

If you are flashing using the correct tools and firmware and following the instructions .
Ok you cannot flash and the message is more or less probably telling you that the NAND is damaged .
Means a service centre replace motherboard .

Did you not do what oinkylicious sugested..

So from the Samfirmware site, What firmware did you download
{EDIT} Opps Sorry JJEgan has come up with the correct response.
I tried flashing a GT-I9100t 2.3.6 stock rom, and a 4.0.3 stock rom both failed and are stuck at the exact same place.
NAND .

[Q] no PIT partition error in odin

Hey guys.
I have a GT- i9300, I rooted it in odin with CF root, no worries, installed foxhounds Rom with SiyahKernel. All was fine for a few weeks. My phone then randomly shut down one day and would not boot. (had not installed any 3rd party apps, custom upgrades or anything for a few days).
My phone now only boots to the Samsung splash screen. Will not boot into recovery mode either. Download mode still works
So i tried to re flash the kernel through odin but I get an error "no PIT partition"
Tried flashing a stock Firmware through odin, same error.
Tried flashing CWM again through Odin, same error,
Tried flashing CF root again in Odin, same error.
Any ideas please help???
I have looked all over the net for two days now and found some people with same problem but they have not fixed it yet.
Would a 3-part firmware work in Odin? If so I have downloaded countless ones only to find they are the single .tar file
3 part works via Odin.

Hey Man, I have been searching the net for days now and trying countless different things in Odin but still no Luck. From what I have read if we can find a 3-part firmware +pit file and we flash them through Odin and tick re-partition it should fix it.
Problem being I cant find one, I have asked on other forums and asked Intratech himself but no response yet. If I figure it out though I'll let you know and you do the same for me hey?

hey, no luck for me so far. I am from Taiwan. I have found 5-part stock firmware, which has pit, bootloader, phone, csc, PDA. But it gave me another error: Re-partition operation failed. It seems the partition table has been crashed.
I have returned it for repair(distributor), and I was told that the phone needs to replace the mainboard. And since they told me I have tried to install custom firmware or software, I no longer have the warranty. The fee is unacceptable high, almost half price of the phone.
I will take my phone back and send it to Samsung repair center. Wait and see if any different solutions Samsung can provide me.
I am still looking for other possible solutions, and if I found one, I definitely will share it with you.
The worse thing is the hardware damage. Hope it is not....
Hi,
I'm having the exact same issue...
It happened me after installing CM10 Prev. #4.. I tried to make a phone call to test the sound problem. and suddenly it rebooted into a boot-loop.
After that I tried to re flash the .zip file to get it booting again but i couldn´t even get into {install zip from internal SD Card]
Then i tried to go back to stock with Odin but didn't work..
Tried to repartition with different .pit files on different pc's with different OS. but nothing helped..
I'm planning on returning it too. I hope they will repair it...
i'll let you know and looking forward to hear something from you.
I ended up taking mine back and it got replaced under warranty

You have no choice! Try every pits you got, you might get another error : Re-partition operation failed...
So far, I believe that is hardware damage, and there is nothing you can do but send it back for repair(replacement).
If you have run triangle away before the phone crashed, then you are lucky, You might get replacement under warranty.
I did that before broken. There was no counter, but showed custom rom in download mode.
So it is hard to judge if I flash custom rom or not. The second time I sent my phone back to same repair center, they finally did replacement for me for free.
Good luck to you, and hope it is not hardware damage.

many thanks for really complete answer brother.
tried to flash stock firmware.after 2 minutes odin said there is no pit partition.
again tried and this time with PIT file, happened what you expected ,it said Re-Partition operation failed.:crying::crying:
luckily i don't have yellow triangle and in download mode it says samsung official.so i think it's better to send it to a warranty service center.
another question i have is why does this problem appear ?
i just connected phone to the charger and slept for 1 hour.when i woke up saw samsung logo on phone and it happened what you know.

thanks for responses brothers.
i tried 5 different pit files and one of them was GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit.
it didn't help.actually when inserting pit file in odin it says Re-partition operation failed. and when pit place in odin is empty it says there is no PIT partition.
i tried to flash 3 part stock rom, same result.
tried those methods with odin 3.04 and odin 1.85, both of them gave me same result.:crying::crying:
If you always search a 3 parts firmware, try this one:

(morocoo CSC i think), just in order to test if it's works.
If it is, you'll flash your firmware (CSC THR) here:
http://hotfile.com/get/164216390/500fb0d0/c94977c/I9300XXBLFB_I9300OJVBLF3_THR.zip
If don't work, use warranty...
Just letting you know that i had the Exact same problem.
When trying to flash (when in download mode) it would always error when trying to get the PIT information.
Nothing would work, besides from download mode. When trying to hard reset, it would get to the logo screen and immediately turn off.
It was rooted + cmw + no triangle away. So it could be easily seen that it rooted
I took it back to warranty.
It was a fault motherboard. That was the issue. They replaced it and re-flashed with stock os.
And it was covered under warranty (the best part).
Same I issue I think
Hi. I think I have the same problem with my unrooted, stock S3. (unbranded UK)
Just suddenly apopeared with the grey battery with the static "O" symbol in it, and when booting doesn't get past the first Samsung screen.
Can get into recovery mode, when trying Odin with XXBLG8 stock ICS ROM, I get the "no PIT partition" error.
Please tell me my phone isn't dead :crying:...
Cheers

brick the phone after flash with a wrong pit file

hi there,
i flash my phone with a wrong pit file, and i run into a problem. its already fixed again by my self, but i want to share my experience with you, maybe someone can use it too.
you can download stock- roms, odin and pit files for your phone on sammobile.com. i found a explanation on samdownloads.de with follow information's:
- pit file with 220 on the end is for 16gb version
- pit file with 322 is for 32bg version
- pit file with 329 is for 64gb version
HOLD ON! This information's are wrong for me, and that's why i ran into this problem.
so i download a rom, and i choose the 322 file for my device and start with the flash process. result from that was, that odin hangs on step, SET PARTITION, and that was it. before, i already deleted the other pit files, while i was thinking i didn't need it. so the first was, i investigate some times to find the pit files on the net again and i start to flash with all files, one after the other..
my phone hangs with 220 pit file, with 322 pit file but i get it successfully flashed with 329 file, which if i believe to samdownloads.de was the file for the 64gb version of the phone.
in my opinion and if i look on my experience right now, for international i9300 32bg version the right pit file was the 329. after flashing it again, my phone was again fully stock, everything was fine, my 25gb free space was there, so its fine.
maybe i can help someone with this information's..

I've had my S3 since may 25th MAY and done tons of flashing of ROMS. Never have i ticked the pit as it was clearly mentioned in all the flashing tutorials. There is no need to do it and dont need to encourage others to do something which can hard brick their phones.

its only as a information, maybe somebody runs into the same problem..
It's true that's it's not advised to play with pit files, but I think it would be better if you explained to people why.
Pit files are to be used only when you need to restore partition layout on the phone. That means after you mess up partitions and not before. Bu some guys just ignore warnings like this.

The why is generally that they use the wrong PIT files .
One of the stupid reasons why is going to forum xxxx downloading firmware from them then coming here to ask why has it broke my phone .
PIT mistakes for SG range are in the thousands not just the odd few .

Nothing you can do. If you flash a wrong pit file then your phone is broken. Hard bricked.
The only possibility for you is finding someone with a JTAG box. Try one of those phone repair shops. AFAIK, that's your only hope.
Flashing a wrong pit file is pretty much the worst possible thing you can do to your phone. How the hell did you manage to flash the wrong pit file? Didn't you double, triple, quadruple check that it was the correct file before flashing?
Please don't tell me that you knew that the file was meant for another phone? I've actually seen people do that...

It is possible because people usually think in terms of branding. Not aware different models may exist in different regions. Example the note gen1 has Korean and Chinese and US versions, each has a different model number.

HELP i think flashed the wrong .tar root file for my Galaxy J7 Pro
Hey man,
XDA doesn't trust me enough to let me make my own post and as I'm writing this I'm supposed to be studying for the 3 exams I will be having.
So,
I rooted my phone susing ODIN and the same root file a few months ago on Android 7.1 and it worked. I used it with TWRP recovery and everthing was fine.
Then the Android Oreo update was released for my phone, finally, and I hooked my phone up to my laptop and downloaded the firmware using Samsung's new Software called SmartThings.
Now I had stock ROM, but my device was recognized as rooted and modified, so couldn't use a few apps like Samsung Health and Pay. Then, without thinking, I put my phone in Download Mode and flashed the SAME .tar root file with ODIN, and now my phone won't boot to the pulsating Samsung logo and is stuck in the bootloader
wanted to say that Odin said PASS when .tar file was downloaded in the AP slot
In download mode,
Download Mode says:
Current Binary: Custom
System status: Official
FAP LOCK: OFF
OEM LOCK: OFF
Secure Download: Enabled
WARRANTY VOID: 1 (0x0303)
I have access to STOCK recovery and download mode, and I've already tried factory resetting phone and wiping cache. I don't want to take more rash steps without someone knowledgeable guiding me. and I cant find any other forum to post on because I'm not a high enough member.
I have fixed when up wrong file pit
My phone is samsung note9 128gb
When i try to up file pit on rom . I had loss my store from 128gb to 32gb
I don't find any solotion on web
And i have go to setting , open development setting. Choose lock OEM. After that my phone restart and recover to 128gb
Please share this solution . I hope it can help many people up wrong file pit and loss data store like me .
File up wrong pit file odin by Lock Oem
Recover Lost data store .

[Q] When should U go for a PIT file?

Just as the Subject says. Only for knowledge purposes (though my phone is bricked :/ )
I get absolutely NO ERRORS while flashing ANY firmware for that matter through Odin. Though my phone is U.K Unbranded I9300XXBLG8.
It should boot-up but doesn't :/
Can't get into Recovery either. Not even a glimpse of it.
Stuck at the i9300 logo :/
Anyone care to help me and answer the following questions?
1. When is flashing a PIT File suitable? At what error u should do it?
2. Do I have a Bootloader/Recovery Problem or something?
3. Will J-Tagging help it?
4. Can someone tell me what is causing this problem? I haven't seen anyone with this problem yet. The firmware as well as CF Root flashes successfully (in Odin)... though the phone shows no positive results.
5. Should I go for PIT or J-Tagging or something else? I don't wanna risk it. All I know is that u should only flash a PIT file when u get the "Get PIT for Mapping" error. And J-Tagging is when the phone doesn't boots up. (I may be wrong)
Anyone with some suitable knowledge please drop by and help me.
Or someone who had this problem before.
My phone is a GT-i9300
CSC Version: I9300OXABLG8
Last Firmware was XXBLG8.
Pebble Blue non-branded and 16gb version.
THANK U
don't panic!
You should be able to fix it by just flashing a stock firmware with Odin
---------- Post added at 04:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:25 PM ----------
you could also try removing the battery for a few minutes and then reinsert and try voting recovery again
Only go for a pit file, if you're planning to flash-lock the device, or repartition it, for that matter.
Don't panic, if your device is bricked, it's not, actually
You f***ed up your boot partition..
Goto sammobile.com/firmware, register, download latest U.K. firmware and then you should be good to go. Then you can root it and everything. DW about your SD, it'll stay as it is..
Hope I could help!

Yes I have a question about that. I'v been looking for the 3 part firmware. I couldn't find it there :/
I have flashed the exact same firmware u r telling.
Btw ur the only one who has said that doing the PIT file will not risk my S3 :/

Lol. Why do you think that is?
CyanogenModded very skankily via XDA app. Skanky, indeed

Flashing a pit is risky, and interruption could lead to hard brick, however if you do it right then all will be good, I used to flash with pit on the s1 regularly as it was a necessity coming from cm to gb, or something along those lines.
Just make sure you know what you are doing
PROGRESS!!!!!!!!!!
OK i think my phone is alive. I managed to get it into the CWM Recovery. But there seems to be one little problem. That I can't mount my SDCard. Even tried mounting in the "Mounts and Storage" Option. Im kinda hopeful but I don't know what to do now
Tried Factory/Data Resetting but that didn't do any good. Have i Effed my SDCard or something??? :/ :/

any specific error messages about that in cwm?
Personally i used .pit with no issues. My story was that i changed the original partition layout and flashed stock .tar after that. CWM was functional but couldn't mount anything. So i just grabbed a .pit and flashed stock together with .pit - all fine.
And regarding the "interruptions" during .pit flashing - it was the same speed as flashing without .pit, at least for me.
If in your case it's simple filesystem corruption, connecting over adb and launching fsck on the messed up partitions should provide some results.
