Hello everyone,
I have bought a Transformer Prime last summer and it's an awesome tablet until now but it has a flaw as everyone knows with its WiFi. I can get no reception at all if I am at a distance from the router and sometimes this is bad.
My HTC Desire though never loses signal and with its 3g connectivity it is great. So I sometimes share my Data connection to my prime and surf the internet but now I have a question and it seems I cannot answer it online.
Is there a way I can share the WIFI connection OVER WIFI ??? If I open Wifi Hotspot the connection is lost. As I see it, there can only be a mode at once, either client or as a hotspot.
Is there a way to make your phone both ? In other worlds can I connect to a wifi connection and share it at the same time ?

No, you can't, I think because there's only one antenna.
You can use a range extender or a router with this function, but it's surely more expensive.
You need a wireless repeater or range extender. It's not that expensive.
Buy Two routers that support ddwrt or tomato. They are pretty cheap now unless you want a Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N router.

Flashed ddwrt and set it up as repeater. It basically connects to Belkin Wifi -G and broadcast wifi-G under another SSID

This might work but it's still a wired connection.
Disconnect your phone from mobile data, connect to your wifi router, plug in the USB from your tablet to your phone, enable USB tethering on your phone.
This way your phone is acting like an access point for your tablet. I've used this method on old desktops that can't connect to wireless routers but it might also work when an Android tablet is receiving the signal.
Connect your phone to wifi, share your connection with your tablet via bluetooth.

+1 this is what I do sometimes, although Bluetooth has bad latency and is limited to about 1mbit/sec

How can I share it with bluetooth ? I have an HTC Desire that uses Oxygen Rom....In settings I only find USB Tethering and WiFi Hotspot...Or do i need another app ?

They are both similar things. Tethering means you can share your phone's data connection with a single computer via a USB cable or via Bluetooth. Hotspot means you can share your phone's data connection to connect 5 other devices to wifi.

I might have to use my Prime in a hotel that doesn't have WiFi, but only Ethernet internet connection. Can I use a WiFi bridge (e.g. Netgear WNCE2001) to connect to internet?
Yep.I have used similar item for years to keep my laptop mobile in hotel room. Will work the same.

Have you tried enabling the ad hoc network fix described in the Q&A section, then setting your LAN line adapter to "share" under your adapter settings on your laptop. Then create a adhoc wifi network between your laptop wifi adapter & your tablet. That way you're sharing your LAN line over wifi with your tablet.

Or grab one of the supported USB Ethernet adapters and plug that bad boy right into your dock

Ah, but that defies the point. If I took a laptop with me, I wouldn't need my tablet. I want to travel light, and my laptop is big and heavy.

This is exactly what I need - a wireless travel router.
However, I'm going to buy a WiFi bridge for my wired network printer, which I want to move upstairs. This bridge connects to a WiFi network and allows wired devices to use it. So I'm going to have this device anyway. That's why I asked my original question.
But does a WiFi bridge work the other way around - as a router? My guess is not. If not, then I have to buy a separate device, like the one above. Is that correct?

There are some USB Ethernet adapters that work out of the box with the Prime. Others can be supported easily with a kernel module.
As far as the wifi brigde ...I actually have DD-WRT running on my WTR and it can function as a wireless bridge, client, or access point.
you can use 'connectify' to make your laptop as hotspot.
that way, you can connect the ethernet cable to your laptop, open connectify and you've a wifi connection.
If you have and android phone with root you could install wifi tether and just tether to your device. That's what I do at work.

Do you mean using phone's data connection? I'm going abroad, data roaming cost would kill me.
ok i no you can use wifi tether to tether your 3g/4g, but is there anyway to use wifi and tether your wifi through your house on a android phone. I have a wireless router at my house, but it does not reach all the way acrossed the house. is it possible to use an old android phone to tether my wifi singal further through my house? or can it only be done on my rezound with by 3g/4g signal?

well thanks for reply guys was really hoping it could work i got 2 extra android phones sitting around.
In theory, it is possible. You can use a tethering program to a PC via USB and then use the PC to "share" or "bridge" the connection to a WAP. I may try that when I get time, I just picked up a new Alcatel Omnistack switch I want to test out.
There is a way of doing this... but it may or may not help you out. Allow me to explain:
I used to live in a house where I kept a basic PC tower in the living room for playing movies. It did not have a wifi card. I was able to use my Droid 1 to tether this living room PC to my home AP.
Now, you're problem is that the wifi isn't even reaching the PC you want to get online. If you have a Droid 1 and it can get on to the AP without a terrible drop in throughput, this will work for you. If not, then it won't.
Here's what to do if you have a Droid 1 that can get on your home AP where the PC can't:
Install CM7 on the Droid 1
Connect to the AP
Connect the Droid 1 to the PC via the USB cable
Enable USB / Wired tethering
Done
It can be a little temperamental, but it works.
This does not address his question. Wired tethering the wifi does work, as you pointed out, but this will not help him extend the range of the network. If the phone is wired to a computer that is too far away to reach the wireless network, the phone is too far away as well.

He could be a whole usb wire closer XD ... Why not just wired tether with pdanet or foxfi? Don't want the data charges, is that it? ... im lucky to be on the real unlimited train

Yes,it will help. I have one, but not same model and it increased a lot my wifi range. I can have my Prime connected to my house Internet with full bars anywhere I am inside the house. It is a very cheap solution as I got mine for something like $65.

I could have sworn I read a similar issue on here but can't find it now. I have an Asus RT-AC66U Dual Band 802.11ac router. Its supposed to be top of the line. Every other device connected to this router works perfectly fine except my z2. The phone shows it's always connected to the wifi network, but my Internet access randomly cuts out. I have to disable wifi and re-enable it for it to start working again. Usually only lasts a few minutes before it cuts out again. Very annoying. Does anyone know a fix for this? Perhaps a setting on my router?

I would like to know this too, same thing happens with my Z2 (I have a RT-N66U), oddly enough the rest of my devices does not suffer from this issue.
I somewhat fixed the issue.. I called Asus support and a technician walked me through the settings on the router. I still have issues connecting to the 2.4ghz frequency, but the 5ghz is fine. Only issue is the 5ghz signal doesn't travel as far as the 2.4ghz signal. I'm going to call Asus again when I return from vacation to see if there's a better fix. For some reason the z2 has issues connecting to some 2.4ghz routers.
