custom ROM sizes - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i am wondering why custom ROMs found in the android development page such as Omega and Android HD are around ~700mb while CyanogenMod is only 160mb.

Samsung just put aload of useless stuff in there roms and cm10 is the bear minimum. Cm10 is pure Google experience while Samsung use this as a base/foundation and load there own stuff on top

I see that explains why CM seems to be missing all of the google and samsung apps. But i was asking about why customs roms such as Omega and Android HD are a lot bigger than CM, is it because they are just addons to the stock ROM?

I am asking why custom ROMs (e.g. Android Revolution* HD, Omega) are ~700mb while CM (also a custom ROM) is ~160mb

I already answered that in the 1st response lol.. Its because samsung have aload of bloatware(e.g apps and stuff) taking up all that memory. The stock rom/custom samsung roms have alot of features that cm10 will never get because its ti much memory and hassle

just wondering which do you prefer and why ?
stock or cm ?
i prefer cm more since it has more features ...how bout you?
cm for more options , battery life
If you want to go to work safely and foremost a stock, with cf-root b84fix and OC and a2sd.

Overall -cm. For me battery life lasted longer in cm than stock. And obviously features add to it.

CM Permission management is the biggest selling point, I love the fact that is integrated and no need to install extra apps or modify apks, plus the 640*480 video recording, last time I checked stock only lets you record video at 320*480, then of course the pletora of additional features and the coolness level
nice idea to make a poll like this
Definitely cm!

my opinion
CM!
Why? (This is just my opinion, i don't wanna pi** anybody off with this.)
Stock has some samsung-only apps like "AllShare" etc. but i dont care about these.
And it has its own contacts browser which supports quick call/sms by swiping over the contact. i really love that feature, but the pros of cm are alot more:
- its looks better (menu effects from ics etc.)
- it has awesome customization options
- it has the theme chooser <3
- and the most important thing: it defo runs faster/better!
i prefer stock based roms

i love cm but can`t install in my galaxy pro,no custom flash recovery anywhere
Stock with CF-Root b84.
it seems cm is more desired than stock ...still what's the upside for stock?
CM7 More speed and better Performance and better Settings
i wait for CM9 Beta
(Custom) Stock. Full stability and more comfortable for daily usage.

stock FTW
for me its modified stock... Ive tried loads of roms and so far omega rocks my world and my phone....
there's some kind of magic when you revert from CM to stock... you know... all working as they should, you have the assurance that your phone won't give up on you. The thing is though after a few minutes on stock and having tried CM you miss lots of things which I can't be bothered to mention now.
So CM for me!
yea...once i use cm and tried back to stock ( based rom) it feels rather odd ...and limited =(

New ICS ROM coming :)

There will be a new custom rom based on .587 firmware.
There will be things that current custom rom doessnt have. (SOME)
Could anyone give some more suggestion on how to perfect it ?

Can you use semi-transparency for dialogs and other pop-up stuffs?
It looks cool when I try it for some drawables but then I don't know if using it too much might slow down the ROM and I'm not an experienced tweaker.
Personally, I prefer a good-looking ROM to a fast bareboned ROM as long as it is usable (I'm not into gaming).

There's not so much JB 4.2 ROM for the SGTab. I actually run the CM10.1 Nightly Builds and it's a very good rom if you really want to move to 4.2.
There's also the ParanoidAndroid 2.99, I don't test it but if you're curious I advise you to test both by yourself but be careful due to multi-user on JB 4.2 the nandroid backups are now in a different folder. This means that if you make a backup from a previous version of JB 4.2 you can't restore it from JB 4.2. I think you just have move the backup in the general folder instead of the user folder but I haven't tested it.
Look on CM Google+
Hmmm, do you face any issue in CM10.1?
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app
i tried jellybean by toldo, was pretty good.but battery drain for 1% per hour on standby was there which less than stock ICS roms
But toldos Rom is ICS.

The only issue I remember is the sound issue and the nav bar settings FC. When you mute the tab then press volume up it goes at max then if you press volume up again it becomes normal again. Strange issue but not so disturbing. I try not to mute the tablet during a song otherwise when I volume up it becomes MAX
When you open nav bar settings it force close.
I don't remember any other issue. I can browse the web, chat, play, take some pictures, Everything is smooth for now without overclocking.
Try it by yourself, really it's a good ROM
Best rom kernels thread are not permitted.
Try them for your self and decide which one suits your needs best.
Thank you and thread closed .

Stock applications on CM 10.1

Hello, dear XDA community!
I am using Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for almost 1 month and beginning from day 1 I realised that Samsung did something wrong with android and spoilt everything with their TouchWiz UI. I tried a lot of different ROMs and found that the best one for me is CyanogenMod 10.1. Everything is cool about this ROM, but I miss some features from the stock ROM.
The features that I miss are:
* S Note
* Samsung Keyboard
* Samsung Camera
I tried extracting these apps from deodexed ROM (I used Omega ROM + correct permissions), but for some reason they refuse to work...
Can someone tell me how to add these apps to my beloved CyanogenMod ROM?
I will appreciate all links, guides and suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
They will not work cm lackes tw framework they rely on

That can be done but still doesn't give you the apropriate fw to use tw fw reliant apps
I think the only one that'll work is weather widget

[Q] Custom Google ICS or Jellybean ROM for Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro/Win

Hello there,
Can a custom ROM with Google's ICS or Jellybean version be available?
Though there are lot of mods available, though trying each of them didn't give me the complete feeling of Google version of my phone.
I like Touchwiz but the AOSP version is what I love the most.

Ok. I found that cm 11 is available for it but it is preety unstable as they said.
Also it is the KitKat version. I am thinking to have the older i.e. jb or ics versions cos of their simplicity in UI.
