Check your sounds, and messaging settings.

Many people have had this issue on stock unrooted phones running ICS (myself include). As far as I know, there is no fix to this bug. Reboot and it fixes itself for a while.

There is a fix. Root that sucker and install one of the awesome custom ROMs available here in the Android development section. Trust me it blows stock away.

Had this issue once on tasks aokp, wiped caches, nothing, full wipe, nothing, fresh install, nothing. Then a day or two later it just resolved itself. Led me to believe it's just some minor hardware issue. I've had friends have the same experience, too.
I777 gets it done, gnex just for fun

Have you tried checking the permissions of the audio files? Depending on your file/folder app (eg. es explorer), enable the option under settings for root browsing and then go to /system/media/audio/* look for your text ring tone in the notification folder and check the permissions. The audio files themselves should have a permission of user: rw, group: r, other: r. In addition the file type should be similar to those already in the directory (eg. Ogg).
I'm on a S3 though so hopefully android setup should be similar.

(Q) Best apps for rooted users?

I wanted to know what sweet apps people use to take full advantage of root. I'm running Ginger bread and want to know if I'm missing out on anyother cool things with root?
Sent from my Ginger Tazz using Tapatalk
I wouldn't say that you're missing it, but here are a few of the apps that I consider requisite (for myself) when flashing new rom's on a regular basis:
TitaniumBackup - a must. spend the extra for the paid version. Very handy for restoring apps and settings. I figure it paid for itself the first time I ran batch operations.
DialerOne - a phone app similar to the stock Sense version that has T9 equipped for keypad dialing... (eg: I press 666 for "Mom")
HandcentSMS - my preferred messaging app.
Wireless Tether - at least I don't have to pay for mobile hotspot
The rest are just the typical apps I DL should I need them:
1337pwn (xbox friends list), dopewars, ebay, fandango, google maps/skymaps/my tracks, gps status, IMDB (satisfies my inquiries for random movie trivia), Mint (finances), speedtest, Swype
...and of course, the XDA Premium app! Seriously, its $1- why wouldn't you have it?
Thanks man I got Dailer one

There's a nice list over on AF in the Droid X root forum (http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/131944-favorite-root-applications.html). Credit to Trident for gathering these up over there. Note: these are not Droid X specific.
Here's the short version:
Titanium Backup
Root Explorer
Terminal Emulator
CacheMate
Drocap2
Wireless Tether for Root Users
AdFree Android
GScript
AutoKiller
Reboot Control Widget
SetCPU
Temp Monitor
I would put Quickboot in there too (along with my AFV app, of course).
Cheers!
To me, the whole essence of rooting your phone is the control and freedom you gain. Don't like the OS, change it. Don't like a protected app, uninstall. Boot animation, change it. Volume not loud enough, turn it to 11. Colors, change them. Need more storage, move data apps to system, or data cache to cache, cache. Cpu not fast enough, overclock it.
Android becomes whatever You want it to be. Not what some board room marketing geniuses said they thought it should be.

I agree with all of Dan;s list, gonna go get Titanium now. Now that we're getting nearly weekly GB rom updates, it sounds worth a paid app.

Well yes, but this one goes to 11, which is one louder.
Lol, hey speaking of which how would you increase the volume going out the line out jack? It's below my sattelite radio, and waaaay far below the cd player's volume. Just wondering, when i stream sirius in my car i have to turn it up pretty high because even at its highest the phone is pretty low.

I know we're all sorta joking about the spinal tap thing, but there is an actual flashable zip that turns up the Max volume. Its called "turnittoeleven". I'm on my phone right now so i cant post the zip, but its out there

Ringtone reverting to default..

Has anyone had an issue with their Ringtone reverting to the default one after a couple of days. I've reassigned the Ringtone multiple times and each time it reverts back. I check the file and the Ringtone is still there but it's no longer the default. I'm puzzled as to why this is and thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else had experienced this.

Nevermind....apparently the ringtone resets on reboot. Lame!!
So far, my experience is that if you Boot into CWM and clear the Cache/Dalvik then your ringtone resets back to default. I've restarted my phone numerous times and havent experienced it reverting to default, but any time i mess around in CWM, that's when it happens for me.
Just my two cents.

You can take your ringtone and put it with the ringtones with root explorer in /system and edit the build prop to see you specific ringtone as default regardless if you wipe cache

I had this happen when i used zedge, i just copied the files out of the zedge directory to a different spot then used that location to set the ringtones

Mms background

So I'm running the stock rooted deodexed and slightly modded rom from MCD and when I go into mms app and go to change the background all that comes up is the option to use an HTC one. It worked fine on stock. Am I missing something?

It's a glitch somewhere, sometimes it's there sometimes it's not. just do your normal thing and it will suddenly show up.
There have been several threads on this. My first dna it was there, returned for warranty issues and was given another new one and it was not there. Had ukb rom and it was there. changed to venom rom and gone again. frustrating.

To get the Gallery option to appear, add a folder named .data in /sdcard. Not sure why, but this fixed my this issue on my DNA. I found the fix somewhere on android central.
Hope this helps.

Galaxy Note 2, boot sound starts and keeps looping.

When I shutdown my phone or reboot it the boot tune, the one that happens when you first turn on the phone happens, then the Verizon 4g lte tune happens, finally right after that the boot tune happens again but this time MUCH louder and it loops while the phone is on infinitely, unless I pull down my notification bar, otherwise it'll play over all other sounds, and even while the screen is off.
Anyone have a fix, I'm unrooted, I have done nothing exotic to the phone, everything is stock and typical, help, thanks.

Sounds like your rom maybe a bad flash. did you take a backup of your rom ? if not there are stock ones online you can reflash with odin. what changes to the phone did you make before this started to occur ?

Unfortunately, it sounds like a factory reset would be the only sure option... Something got screwy, but without a restore point, wiping might be the only way to fix it

Have the same problem, has any resolution been found ?
Edit : I have tried "Silent Boot" and "No Statup Sound" apps and they work once but the sound comes back.
^ another option all tho im sure this is not the op's problem:
-must have root
-install a root explorer app
-navigate to the system/media/audio/ui folder
-scroll down and add .bak to the end of files poweron.ogg & poweroff.ogg.

4.2.2 Ringer Issue.

One every 4.2.2 ROM I've notice that once an incoming call comes through the phone will ringer for about 3 seconds then the ringer goes out and continues to vibrate. I saw another post where someone said the issue is custom ringers but I'm using the stock sounds. Any idea how to fix this?

I don't have an issue with my ringers. I have custom ringers (mp3's), and system ringers (ogg's) and they all work and play for the duration of the rings. I have them all moved to my internal memory. Maybe that helps?
I'm currently on Paranoidkangdroid and I use to be on SOA, and FJ's with no issues either.

I never moved my stock sounds so they should be on the internal storage. Strange. I'm on slimbean now but its happen on other ROMs.

I am having the same problem and find it to be ROM agnostic. I have tried several different ROMS including JellyBam and Slimbean with the same problem of one ring & multiple vibrations.
The only thing I can think to try is to take the current preferred ringtone and, using an audio editor, create a new ringtone by copying the ringtone and paste it over & over (a few times) to create one longer ringtone.

I finally looped a ringtone using an audio editor. I looped it six times with 1.5 seconds silence between each ring and you cannot tell the difference between it and a properly cycling ringtone.
Would rather it worked properly, but this work around will do the trick.
