Just flashed JB official rom and I'm really annoyed by the shuttering while opening system settings tabs. Is it only me or others are facing this too?
Also noticed random choppiness here and there. Not feeling buttery at all =\

Yep, I've the same stuttering. My guess is the apps end up being responsible. I mean: if you wipe clean, install jb: all is smooth. Install a couple of apps, a launcher, leave a lot in multitasking, maybe you've a couple of services running etc. Boom, starts being sluggish in transitions here and there.
I notice super smooth when I wipe clean, but once I set up everything back, there's a bit of the old lag here and there. I live with it
International version means GTI9300 and that pretty much nails the subject.
So far I have never seem faster phone. Ever.
Anyone who says this official jb update isn't stuttery and sluggish in places is full of a that brown substance ' and yeah I did the fresh install' wipes ' permissions blah blah blah' don't get me wrong I can feel the butter and when I do my s3 floats like the delorian in back to the future ' but then I open the widget draw and am reminded of the rusty robot out of the wizard of oz' hopefully xdadorothy will follow the yellow Rom road, and inject some oil into the creaky android and make him dance again...... I don't think anyone who's complaining about it has:
1. Made a full wipe/factory reset.
2. Removed or frozen the crap and bloatware they don't use and/or need running.
Do these two things and report back.
I have flashed all but one of the leaks, due to the fact that they came so quickly I couldn't get to it in time, and the truth is that LIB is the smoothest one yet once these steps are completed.
Obviously, if you load your granny's sleeper sofa and fridge on the roof before the race, your Porsche, fast though it may be, is going to handle differently. It's not the car.

Whenever i try a new FW, ROM, whatever, i always do all the wipes and remove all kind of apps that i don't need that come with the system and are "un-uninstallable" and ALL JB Sammy Leaks and CM10 are LAGGY!
If you have a Quad Core Processor and can't handle Dialer and Messages app, well, there is a BIG PROBLEM!
They went all 60 frams and project butter when Google presented Jelly Bean but tell me why the heck i can't open the effing widget drawer and don't get all the lag in the world.
Wait for CM10?

I just bought my first ever AT&T phone, and service, and even though the service is great the phone leaves something to be desired.
I LOVE this phone and the "phablet" style and the S-Pen. I've been reading reviews and watching videos and the phone looks so amazing in all of that but then I take it home and----> *finger scroll*...sccc-roo-lll..ss...sl..oow.
I've rooted it, after I realized it was lagging, and then I flashed a custom rom and...lll...aaa..ggg...It's not INCREDIBLY laggy. It's just not as smoothe as everyone Else's I'vee seen. Why??
Please help me, I go to work at 5PM(Central time), and I wanted to show my manager the phone so we can get some for the store.
I'm not a beginner to flashing or modifications, previous E4GT owner, but this problem is killing me.
Just install the latest ics leak and your lag problems will disappear.
It's very solid smooth and battery life is a big improvement.

Maybe try electrons ICS of the latest leak. Basically just super stock, but seems snappy and gives you the latest leak and modem. Plus a bit of debloating. Scrolling and screen rotation seems better in it. (latest is f5)
If that's not enough try a CM9 variant from hotwire or others.
Also, consider dumping touch wiz. It doesn't do landscape home screen and that is enough to make me not care about it. Get adwex or adw if you don't want to pay money. Nova launcher is also very good.

I'm going back and forth between these two as there are things I like about both.
One thing I have read is that ICS is more ram intensive, and thus certain apps might run a bit faster under Gingerbread.
Performance is the main thing I care about so I'd like to know if this is true and I would like to know your general opinions on ICS compared to Gingerbread
as well ....

Man ... things are really touchy around here. Maybe I just have brain damage (quite possible) but I don't remember having to walk on eggshells quite so much back in the Tmobile Galaxy S XDA forum ...
Okay I changed it to "compared to" instead of "vs" in the body of my post ... is that less "inflammatory?"
Why would people get upset about picking one OS over the other? It's not like you designed the damn things. What's wrong with asking which one you think is faster for memory intensive apps? I'm not trolling. I just don't get it.

I agree completely that ics in general looks much better than gb. I like the feel of it better too, for lack of a better word. But since I use Launcher Pro it doesn't make that much difference what the UI looks like for me. I have noticed that some games are sluggish with ics or do not run at all, but that could be more of an issue on the game developers end, I guess ... Do you have any issues connecting your phone to a computer with ics? The process seems much more cumbersome than with gb--with gb I just plug in a USB cable and tap mass storage and that is it.
Went to stock gingerbread from jb. Gingerbread is very smooth. Only thing i miss from ics/ jb is task manager and full screen browser (stock browser)
This thread is pointless, no offense meant, because of the following:

Only thing I've suffered from is a bit of mem leak... a reboot a day solves that, sometimes two. This guy is being killed by mem leak. Why is it different? Each phone is different just like each grape on a vine is different.
Different views, different experience, same phone, same ROM.
The same things can be said for ICS vs GB. Different issues, different opinions, same phone, same ROM. Let's not forget that I may FULL wipe and run the kernel cleaning script before each flash and someone else may just wipe cache and dalvik. That right there is enough for one of us to have a problem the other doesn't. Let's not forget about the different tweaks you can do which add even MORE variables to why one ROM or kernel may run better for you than me... even on the same settings.
This was my "nice" response.

GB. I believe it offers the best experience for our device. I've been on ICS for a while and the only thing holding me is the beautiful UI changes in AOSP. So far, it's been enough to keep me put. I doubt most people care about it that much though.

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing the same but to me Jelly Bean on the S3 is terrible!
It's more like project stutter!
I am getting serious lag and if I use my phone for a couple of days without rebooting it's practically unusable.
Is the memory leak still present in JB?
I'm running stock XXDLJ4.
I went back to my S2 the other and was literally blown away!
I'm considering selling my S3 and going back to my S2 which for me is a lot nicer to use.
In my honest opinion Samsung made a huge stuff up only putting 1gb RAM in the S3, and they've admitted it by bringing out the i9305.
How the S3 is so popular I do not know.
Is anyone else experiencing serious performance and lag issues on JB?

Hi mate,
I'm using the stock XXDLJ4 JB ROM.
The lag really is terrible, it was bearable, just!! But last night it really slowed down.
For example I was just trying to open my SMS and waited about 3 seconds for that to open (which is normal for me) then clicked on an SMS thread (another 2 seconds) clicked reply and waited about another 4 seconds for the keyboard to open and then every letter I typed took 1-2 seconds to appear.
Only a reboot fixed it.
I have tried all sorts of things I can think of. Even formatted cache, dalvik, system, data and internal storage to start from scratch with a fresh, new downloaded ROM and the same thing.
I'm going to flash ICS tonight and see if it helps.
I've had the same issues after going to jelly bean and trying all kind of stuff.. my wife has the s2 skyrocket, some days other blows my i9300 away..
I haven't tried rolling back to ICS, I really dig the JB features.

I love the features of JB but not the performance.
It's weird that an S2 can out perform an S3 though, that really shouldn't happen and I can't figure out why it does.
Going back to my S2 was awesome! It flies.
I just find it odd that some people don't experience any lag and say JB on there device is perfect. Surely all S3s should be the same.......

never had a problems with jb.. usually a wipe would fix it. also possible that media scanner is using all your cpu power thus lagging phone.

Hello. I want to flash a rom on my fathers note.
Will anyonw be kind enough to point me out to what is considered the most stable rom.
Preferable nothing over 4.2.
I flash cm10.2 and it has a weird thing where the screen fails.
I have carbon 4.4.2 on my razr hd and it works flawless. But it seems that roms on thia device arent doing so well.
If anybody ia able to help me i would apreciatte it a bunch.

Some moderators have been shutting these kinds of threads down do to the fact that you are asking for someone to rate ones work over another, but I will chime in before that happens.
I am not going to rate one over the other though, as all phones run differently as you are finding out.
2 roms that MY phone had no problem running......Padawan and Black Jelly.
These 2 are close to stock with bloatware removed. Remember this is your dads phone. There are plenty of other roms I like, but require more maintainence. How often are you going to want to fiddle with dads phone.
Not much has been happening on these threads. You will not see many recent issues. That is how stable they are. I will recommend you read and in Padawan, I will refer you back to p. 355 to about p. 380. This was just after update and many issues were solved at that time. My phone never ran better.
If you get lag, read again, you werent paying attention.
Good luck.

If you follow development rom threads you can answer your own question. That is what is expected of people to do rather than create threads like this. That being said I don't really know what you are hearing about 4.4.2 roms but my wife has been running a 4.4.2 rom for well over a week without any reboot. After installing uber,a screen jitter patch, and the camera patch everything seems to work fine. Granted she really doesn't use bluetooth much but when she does it seems to work and there is an echo when using speaker phone on the other end. So really only reason not to go to 4.4.2 would be the speaker phone issue which I believe is present on any rom above 4.2. There is no way I could live on 4.1 or below personally.
Anyway to answer your question read the threads in the development section of this forum and educate yourself. Maybe even go as far as to flash a few roms and try them out and decide which rom is right for you.
Battery on Kit Kat seems to have a bit of a shorter life span also.
What you were stating Butcher, may be the reasons he is asking for stable. Patch here, kernal there, 4.4 has been very stable. But he is putting it on dads phone. If I were flashing dads phone, I would want something I am not having to tweak so much, especially if dad cant tweak himself.
Would you want to change the brakes on dads car every other day. Some roms are like a medication. The phone seems to build up tolerances, then need to make an adjustment.
But yes, read.

Yes thank you.
I would usually just flash away any rom ghat sounds promising to me. And yes i would tweak as much needed to be exactly how i wanted. From overclocking to to voltages, to removing navbar to what ever is needed.
But like you said this is for my father and i would want to have it be the most stable ao he wont have to deal with reeboots and and weird screen fails.
And i have been reading and uber has been mentioner a lot. Some say good some say its bad.
Kinda have been seeing a mixed opinion about it. Thats why i have been asking for what somebody consideres a stable rom.
Also i dont have the opportunity to mess with his phone when ever i want.
He is on gingerbread and god is that slow.
Thank you both i will see the roms that were mentioned here, and read for others.

If you went to the Samsung website, you can get an official upgrade there or even calling the carrier and have the upgrade it. JB is the official upgrade. If something goes wrong there, then at least they are resposible if something goes wrong.
