[Q] Is it worth buying a xperia Sola? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello,
I have a LG p500 with a CM10 RC(jelly bean) and it is working great and fast.
I can buy a Xperia Sola with a good price now, but the fact that the stock rom is still GB and so far as I know no one knows for sure when the officially upgrade is coming (always postponed), is it worth my money?
The custom ICS ROMs in these forums work on Sola and if yes, are they any good?
Also I've read this in GMS Arena :
"512MB ram of which only 300MB is available at a time out of which 150MB will be consumed by its own launcher applications, so you have to deal with rest of 150 MB. Means laggy operations and hanging frequently."
Is it true?
Thanks

If ICS is a deal breaker i'd say go for the xperia U because it will get ICS faster and have more support.
about the ram, there is no lag at all ! you usually have 150mb free ram on stock GB ROM so i assume that on Cm9 it will be even better
I bought the xpU after having the Atrix 4G and I like it a lot more !

Ok, but when will it be possible to put CM9 or 10 preferably on Sola? Only after the official ICS update?

ICS or JB good for games?

Hello guys, I wonder if there is any custom rom for Xperia Neo V, which run the games without any lag, or at least with minimum of lags.
sorry for bad english!

I haven't really tested much but as far as I know it goes like GB(Codename 9, X-GAMER) > JB(CM10, AOKP) > ICS
Imo ICS is the least optimised for gaming, but bear in mind that I haven't really done any real benchmarks so I might be wrong on this, someone should back me up first
of course GB i better for gaming but i dont have mush problem with ICS:good:
GB are the best for gaming man
u can try codename he's fast n
Stable
Of course GB because is lighter than ICS
For all the fools answers (not eveyone)
He asked ICS AND JELLY BEAN! NO GINGERBREAD.
I really dont know which one is fastest but bear in mind that JB needs more ram, and has many bugs.
it depends...
well of course it depends on what kind of games are you playing...as guys/girls said JB uses more ram and its still under development, but if you have nice tuned ics its definetely better...i sugest you to take a day off for your phone and just try roms...it cant hurt and you will find the rom that suits you best
gb, ics generates as many compatibility problems or close by themselves.
apart gives you more free RAM
there are many ICS custom roms that good for games

CM9 , i.e. ICS and Jelly sandwich are pretty good RAMwise, and therefore good for playing games.
Moreover if you want a lag free gaming, close all background running apps before running games, as 512 MB is never enough RAM for gaming.
check it out

ICS or GB? What should I use? I guess this question is not only mine...

Greetings my dear friends.
I'm here to give my verdict on the upgrade to ICS after 2 months using the ICS Stock ROM I could finish something. Read and understand.
I have an XPERIA U ST25a retail brazilian.
Sure, the stock ICS ROM is very attractive, all good new stuff found in Android 4.0 are very good, like the new UI or settings menu, the toggles easily accessible are very useful, but the apparent instability and slowness (in moments) make me think why I bought this phone, and also think about going back to the old but great stock GB ROM.
And yes, i use ICS ROM, I made my own modifications and tweaks to the all-bloated ICS Stock ROM get the maximum performance.
But the bugs are really ridiculous.
The battery only charges sometimes if the phone is restarted, otherwise the indicator will be locked at 39%, for example.
The camera seems to be slow compared to the old Stock GingerBread ROM.
The open / close applications is not slow, but sometimes the application takes to respond as if something sucking the system performance.
All these bugs may (or may not) be Sony's problem, but since the era of my old devices I have these SAME problems in some ICS ROMs (I've also tested the FXP CM9 rom, and believe me, if you fill up with apps, will be slow too).
It seems that Android 4.0 ICS is always buggy and slow, and then Eclair 2.1 (horrible) then followed by the 2.2 Froyo (good).
My conclusion: Don't upgrade if you hate a phone will be a little bit slower.
I just do not go back to stock GB ROM why I still enjoy a good user interface instead of performance.
But if you do not like one bit of minimal slowdowns or some bugs, DO NOT bother upgrading to ICS. Just a beautiful day, we have the long awaited Jelly Bean. Even if it is a CM10, the "Butter Project" realizes disappear with lags. And all these little problems may be fixed.
I just let my experience here on this upgrade does not seem that there be a good idea.
Thank you very much
What ics firmware build number are you talking about?
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
About any ICS firmware. I've tested B.1.10, B.1.54 and C.1.10 and of these three have similar and different problems. Its a problem about android 4.0 that have been build focused on research data...
Ics is a very ram hungry ...if u have a device which has ram 512 or below that, them trust me it's best to stay at GB.. In my Xperia P ICS eats up 500MB of my ram.i am just left with 430 MB of usable memory...

But in android free ram doesn't mean more performance, lag will only appear when RAM reaches the "lag level" (30~25 free ram)
Here on my XPU i have 120~140MB free and i don't have any lag. BTW if you install a bunch of crappy apps and let the bloatware of Sony installed you will certainly will get some lag. Even on a XPP with 1GB of RAM you can feel some lags, i've already tested yet!
Yes if you say it like that.. Then yes under a microscope ICS does lag a bit.it's inevitable even the quad cores lag in ics from time to time.. But hey that's why there is JB for the rescue...

I think lag by alot of app is open. So I endtast and free ram. It Work fine with me.
I prefer the GB which is less power hungry on RAM compared to ICS.
ICS, I find it laggy.
Most games lag on ICS compared to GB.
For me, if I'll choose, I'll go for Custom ROM based on ICS(not the stock one that sony distributed). If you don't like stock ROM then I'll stick to GB because ICS consumes more RAM than GB.

Why so laggy?

First i want to say Hi! to all of you out there.
Why is my neo-v so laggy?I tried many roms and kernels, but it still lags and i can't get an app to run properly withoul lagging. At first i thought it was the little amount of RAM,but i have a friend that has an LG Optimus Black and it laggs even more,so it can't be the RAM what else could it be?(I play CSR Racing a lot and with any Rom i tried it laggs, sometimes not so much)

if you are rooted you can try to overclock your device, also install custom kernels with better governors. try a search on the forum, you will get a lot of custom kernels also find ways to overclock your device.
hope i helped.
Thank you for your answer.I am rooted and now i am using fusion 5.5 kernel clocked at 1 .2 with ondemand gov and deadline gov for RAM and ZRAM on Racing Bean ROM.It is better but it still laggs sometimes. The only apps i've installed are:Facebook with messenger, yahoo mail,CSR racing, whatsapp, twitter,es file explorer and titanium backupThanks again!

Anyway our neo is not good for playing strong games. Buy a better phone or you'll burn your phone while overclocking.

Performance is a subjective term..
It varies from person to person.
Well, games do lag on our phones beyond a point and I've seen every android device lag after sometime of use while doing heavy multitasking, etc
Android OS as such needs to undergo a lot of development .
Well, you do have to pay a price for the seamless customizing option it gives us..

I never overclocked it to 1.6 Ghz.My maximum was 1.4 Ghz.Anyway greenify is a great app.It works like a charm. It made my phone faster and i think this is the fastest it can do.I am still thinking what I want.If i want to buy a new phone or buy another thing.Oh i remembered,I moved to Xtream Bean. It's a great fast rom,and it is faster with the performance boost from Racing Bean.Thank you guys!

Would recommend you to switch to Super Jelly Bean v5.o + Fusion v5.5 kernel.
And yes, avoid overclocking. I never do. And if you switch to any SJB or moAOKP v3, you'd get enormous amount of RAM that you need not overclock!

Well yes, not all apps are compatible with it. Just think like your phone was a computer/PC.
You install windows xp which is themable and can become like windows 7 (i think transforming it to windows 8 would make it less efficient.)
So you have the lightets and most beautiful version of windows ever on your pc. But still windows xp can only use directx 9 and cant use internet explorer10 (but anyway who's using internet explorer nowadays.). Also a lot of software is not compatible with it.
So you install windows 7. Windows 7 will give you an amazing collection features, apps and such but they will perform slower compared to windows xp. (We are always talking about a computer with about 1,3~1.5Ghz proccesor)
So you must choose between these two: A lot of compatible apps and slow speed OR excellent performance with lower app compability. Well you choose. Gingerbread or ICS/JB. It is up to you and how you are going to use your phone.
Also with the lemon cake (if i rember correctly) version of android there is going to be a huge performance increase because it is going to support phone with ram of about 512MB which is what our phone has. And with a fully working kernel 3 Performance should be increased [email protected]!

actually it is 335 for gingerbread
340 for ics and
384 for jb *as you said
Well because of the fact that i am afraid of unlocking my bootloader (no money to fix/replace the phone from any damage caused) i cant tell you about custom kernels. But our phone has in general 512mb of ram. Generally some memory is taken by the kernel for some functions for example camera/gpu. Camera 720p has been removed from jelly bean so thats why it has more free ram.
That happens on every phone i guess.

Thx for explaining me.Now i understood. But why does the gingerbread work smoother than jb if it has less RAM available
Oh,and i have another question(about CSR Racing). When I am on stock gb or ics when i press to shift the gears it goes late(doesn't matter if i oc or not).I mean like 3 sec late. But when i am on a custom rom it changes the gear perfectly. Why is that happening?

Well it seems to be lighter and probably I guess more optimized. Ram doesnt matter for performance in this case. Gingerbead was made to work on devices with even lower ram thats why no problems excists. Also my guess is tha Jb can work on even less ram smooth enough. Ram in android is mostly occupied by cached processes which are "useless" for the Os to operate correctly.
Anyway about csr racing i know nothing ).

[Q] Thiking of getting an Xperia Sola for cheap. Worth it?

Ok so, as the title implies I'm thinking of getting an Xperia Sola on the cheapside (135€) almost brand new. However I do have a few questions:
1. Would you say the phone is worth the price?
2. Do you think it is a good phone?
3. I mostly use my phone for multitasking and gaming sometimes, so does it fit the bill? The 512RAM thing scares me, my Galaxy W said it had 512MB but it had like, 378MB.
4. How is custom rom development for the phone?
Cheers and thanks in advance
1. It's definitely worth its price, even when there is few cons.
2. More Yes than No, It has interesting design, a technology wich is available only for this phone only, called floating touch needs to be improved tho, but It's quite usable in browser. Built quality is not the best, could be better... after a while u will notice some squeaks and other noises it is fixable.
3. That's because there is usable RAM and non usable, can t really explain where the unusable goes, It has to function somewhere else in phone...available RAM is 368. It's enough if u stick with GB android version on ICS takes allmost 90% when no apps are working. Don t recommend to buy one if u are willing to update it to ICS... it would be a huge disaster!
4. I have seen some of the costum versions, for gaming as well, haven't tried yet, i am sticking with the stock one, for battery saving.

You can update to ics, its working flawlessly and even better im on jellybean for last month without hiccups. Nice phone good price...overall im satisfied. Xperia GO Jelly Bean v4.1.2 performance issues

Hello i recently got my Xperia GO and updated it using PC Companion to JB
But so far been very frustrated with it :crying: On the original software it had GB the ram usage was ALOT lower, okay i understand newer software = more apps and more ram used. But on JB i only have on average 100-70mb as opposed to 190-160mb on GB.
I want to play games badly and I cannot figure out how to make JB use less ram, other than using a custom ROM.
Any suggestions?:silly:
Don't bother with that, jelly bean with free up as much ram as it needs

It really isnt free ing up the ram hence why I posted this, besides I have checked the difference between the two softwares and on GB games like Real Racing 3, Dead Effect, etc all work and with JB they don't load :/
