because of this my SD card cant mount in recovery for me to perform a backup. is there a work around? or once its encrypted u have to undo it to access the SD card in recovery...
This is most likely going to sound rude but that's the point. I don't know what good it would do to be encrypted if you could still just plug it in and read it
If the other card isn't encrypted just switch mount points and back up to the other card

well with encrypted if someone steals my phone, they still have to be able to unlock it to click it over to Disk Drive. also if they pull it out of my phone its unreadable by a computer. so if i lose my phone the information is guaranteed to be destroyed. and as for switching to different mount points, i tried that. i clicked internal storage, and it still said could not mount storage. im decrypting right now, so i can make my nandroid, but i really wish i could keep it encrypted
it says that the phone uses a password built in somewhere to access the information. is there anyway we can set the password and then use it in recovery to access the card? or does this depend on the card and not the software.
Sorry I just reread my post and it looks like I'm saying that I'm trying to be rude lol I meant that's the point of encrypting the card lol. It wouldn't be worth encrypting if you could just open it in twrp. There are apps on the market that will encrypt just the external card and not both but I haven't tried it. I don't see the point of encrypting it when I can just lock folders. My phone is setup to wipe the card if the phone is ever lost so I'm not worried about encryption

very true, idk i guess i should carry a backup micro to backup and flash my roms. unless can the card be partitioned so part is encrypted and part is not?
I've never tried it, perhaps, I know a partition can be locked and encrypted leaving other partition(s) alone but I don't know if there are any apps that support it

which ROM you used?
On this method and without MAGLDR is formatted - a facility of the formatting from Windows.
This facility - after WP7, but not after blocking SD-cards.
does this work if the SD card was fully looked like in the Xboxmod/Yuki ROM?

Yes it does. I tried with my 8 GB Samsung Class 4 Micro SD Card. Everytime I tried it worked. Let me know how it goes on your end...
ok,lets be clear on this because there is a lot of confusion over whats locked and what isnt.
a locked card if plugged in to a windows PC will displaying NOTHING in My computer, there will be an device in device manager tho, it is not possible to even see the card in most (all i am aware of) formatting programs including SDformatter
a card thats unlocked (but unusable) can be seen and edited in admin tools> computer management, you can format it in anything, all thats happened is that the filesystem info is unknown, windows is great for doing this itsself without the need of any further programs.
So to be clear, your saying that doing this will wipe the secure partition on the SD card there by wiping the key and deleting the encryption covering the whole device?
all the ROMs bar xbmods do not use a locked SD card so that can be fixed in windows, xbmods ROM can be unlocked but by default it is locked, this is the one that catches people out. If folk would actually read up on what they are doing they would know that you should unlock the SD card BEFORE flashing a new ROM if you previously had xbmods rom, if you forget to do that then simply flash the xbmod ROM back on to it and unlock it next time.
Its really very simple
ive just read your post again and your cards are not locked, plugging a Locked SD card in to a card read will give you absolutely no access to it at all other than being able to see it in device manager, whatever it is your doing, your card isnt locked, sorry.

When you clear the MBR on the SD via MAGLDR then it just destroys Table of partitions thus gives you the disk in the RAW format. Which you can format in WindowS. I have tried this method with XbMod rom without unlocking the card in the ROM.
PS: The key here is that, you have to clear the SD MBR(Master Boot Record) via MAGLDR prior to inserting the card in the PC. (Either by using the MASS STG method or the via CARD READER). Hope this clarifies the doubt...

The time and effort you put into your guide is admirable and appreciated, but unfortunately, dazza9075 is correct about the locked cards.
This thread still is the best for those who do not want to reinstall the Back the Future ROM to unlock their SD cards, if one can find a Nokia phone or other listed device near at hand.
There are rumors the new MAGDLR under development for our Leo phones will include a utility to unlock these locked cards. Hopefully this is not wishful dreaming.

I tried my method in the XBMOD Rom after fully testing it I posted here. But anyways I will do it one more time when I reach home and then confirm it back. I did have two cards locked by xbmod rom and this procedure worked out for them. But for the confirmation sake I will do it one more time tonight and will post back the results...

OOps sorry dude .. i shud have tried to be poilitically correct and polite but since i was in hurry i just wrote one line in fact i agree ..and apologize i should have PMed you.. but anyhow to add to detail ::
If u have a card thats been encrypted and then u try to unlock it won't be detected by most of devices .. it once worked for me on a Nokia phone .. So check if that works .. also if u are using storage unlock from XBMod then thats ok.. Lets take a Case where someone is running Android from SD and has 2 cards one for WP7 too.. now he/she swaps the card to Android but as a mistake chooses to boot into WP7 .. trust me the card is gone ....Some Nokia phones and some other devices can rescue it otherwise its gone ...
Regards
Anybody try this yet? ezSD Ghost Clip.

Its not the mbr that holds the secure area, deleting it makes no difference, a locked card is designed to not be viewable at all in a device its a special protected area often used for cache on higher class cards when used correctly it makes the card unreadable, Nokia phones are able to erase that area which turns off the secured feature which then lets devices access the cards storage space, however the contents of the storage area are still encrypted and as you have removed the secure area its completely unusable =)

As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I do have one quick question, once a locked card is formatted by a device such as a Nokia phone, is it possible to format the card again with a program such as SDFormatter to regain the storage capacity? That is what I understand, but never have tried. Of course, any formatting would remove the contents that would therefor be unusable.
Need help/advice. I updated my phone with the newest Fresh Evo LTE 5.3.1 and the radio firmware. And after rebooting...noticed the Damaged Phone Storage notification. At first I thought it was no big deal cause it was the micro sd card. But then I found out it is the data/second partition on the internal phone storage. I tried to erase the phone storage...but that does not work. I am thinking of trying to restore back to stock and hoping the stock image restores the second partition.
Do you know what might of happened? And any options on trying to fix this problem?
You most likely need to reformat it. Best method so far seems to be booting into twrp and mounting the internal sd to PC and formatting it. Unless there's another cause, I don't know of any issues so it would help to wait for someone who has has to deal with anything similar before taking my advice

Thanks that worked...mounting to my PC in TWRP and formatting. Lost all my pictures and videos...will teach me for not syncing to one of those cloud storage services
Just make it a habit to back up your cards. Its always a good habit to back everything up
this just happened to me after a hard reset...can you show the exact steps i cant seem to figure out how to mount this?
Reboot to TWRP and look for mount, make sure it's set to internal and mount storage, in Windows a dialog should pop up saying that the card needs to be formatted

Hi guys, I've been a little concern about my files on my memory card, so I moved them to the internal storage for "safety" my files are blocked by a security pattern, but if you take the memory card out people would be able to see whats in it, thats why I decided to move it to internal memory. But I found out that, even if I have a security pattern, people still can access to both, internal and external memory by using usb cable to connect the phone to the computer!! So, how do I block my internal and external memory from being accessed in the event that my phone get lost or stolen??
One possible option is to use anti thief programs like cerebrus. It allows you wipe the data from the phone by remotely sending SMS codes. Maybe encryption is also the way to go for you. But I am sure about that.

Encrypt it. System settings/Encrypt device. You can, apparently, do both internal memory and SD card.

I wanted to try that... however, it says password will required to decrypt each time you power it on..... so thats why I didn't do it. Cause of course, if I lost or someone steal my phone, phone is going to be ON, so that makes no sense because they will have access to my files anyways, since I already provided the password to decrypt it, right?

Thats a good idea, however. If I lose my phone at walmart, it will take a little while before I can get in a computer to wipe my data off! by then, people will have accessed my info already. It make take 30 minutes before I realize my phone was lost, then I need to get home and log in to cerebrus.com (or whatever its spelled lol) and wipe data from my device. What I would like to find is something that will block my data from being read if the phone is connected to computer via usb cable.
Like I said before, I already have pattern block, they will not be able to access my internal memory without the correct pattern, they can take the sd card and see my files in another device, but I'm not worried about that because I already moved all the important files to the internal memory of the phone.
I too want an answer
Yes off course, someone can just take my phone and can easily copy my internal data. We need a solution for that.
This has been talked about over and over I believe, but a real "solution" has not been found yet I guess. I just want to direct you to another thread with my take on this issue.
I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. My SD card won't save anything correctly (pictures, apks, Roms, etc.) since it was partitioned. The oddest thing is that some things will save correctly, but very few. Everything will save, but when you try to open something, the phone says it can't be opened. When I rooted my Motorola Atrix 4g, it forced me to partition my SD card. I don't know anything about modding and I just followed online instructions to root my phone. I don't remember exactly what was going on, but my phone wouldn't work until I partitioned. I used ROM manager to partition. Anyway, I was thinking about formatting my card, but I'm afraid my phone won't work without the car being partitioned. So, I was also thinking about partitioning again. What should I do, and why is the card acting this way?

Well if you don't have any important data on the card then you could try to format it (maybe with a computer). How did you partition the card (I mean 1 partition, or more)?
I'm sorry. I really have no knowledge about these things, but I assume it has 1 partition. I partitioned it with ROM manager to make a space for apps. Which I don't use and never have, so I don't know why it forced me to do it.

So, I'm going to format the card. I need it for my Atrix HD, which has NO space on it. Why is my Atrix 4G a much better phone than my Atrix
HD? It had tons more space and it is much quicker. But the HD has a bigger HD screen that looks awesome and that's why I prefer using it. I can't wait to get a new phone so I can root the HD and use the SD card for apps. Sorry. I went on a rant. Anyway, if anybody knows anything about the partitioning issue let me know. Thanks.

Hi,
I was browsing through recovery looking for the option to copy files into the sd card while in recovery, just so i didn't have to remove. Well, for some stupid mistake ( i still can't figure out why i even confirmed the option), i pressed the format sd card and when i realized it a second later i removed the card right away.
I don't think it really had time to delete anything or much, but when i inserted the card in my computer it said that the card should be formatted to be used and the same thing appeared on the phone, so im guessing some crucial file that allows me to use the card was deleted.
So, did i just lose all my data? Is there a way to recover the card files?
Thanks in advance!

Removing it while erasing might have had corrupted the data, too. Unless there's some magic software which can check for deleted files on these types of SD cards.
you can recover your deleted data by downloading "diskdigger" from google play in my opinion it's the best app for this issue.. another app is "undeleted for root users"... you can recover photos, videos, and some texts.....
If this reply helped you don't miss to press thanks Buttom to know ?

Keep in mind these might not work as the phone cannot access the card or file system of it, this is why it appears as an unformated card and the phone or computer cannot do anything with it besides reformatting

Try active file recovery software
Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300
Rom: Archidroid v2.4.6

Boeffla kernel 2.3b6

Hi
Thank you all for the replies.
I ended up using a recovery software to retrieve the files, since they were all still there because i stopped the formating process right away.
So, recovered the files, formated the card and put the files back.
I was hoping i could just restore the filesystem and those files, but that was the only solution i got at the time.
Thank you all for the help and suggestion!
Recovery of accidentally formatted SD card is possible in couple of minutes. By means of Remo Recover tool, you can get back files lost from SD, CF, MMC and XD cards.
