Pelase don't shoot me, I searched for how to root and found several methods. I want to ask the forum though, what is the easiest way to root the Atrix 4G? If there is already a thread on this, please forgive me, I just didn't find it...
Secondly, are there any stable and reliable Jelly Bean Roms or even ICS roms? IF yes, would flashing one mean having to reinstall all my apps again?

To flash a custom ROM you also need to unlock your bootloader.
The easiest way to do both is found here.
The most satisfying way is found here and here.
There are JB ROMS that are stable enough to use every day, but they are still buggy.
You will have to reinstall all of your stuff. But you can back it all up with Titanium Backup then restore it all in the new ROM.

Thanks. I'll at least give rooting a try for now. I've tried Titanium Backup before to some mixed results so I might give that a try at a later date.

OK, definite n00b here at xda, but I did manage to successfully flash the 4.0.4 ICS leak on my 4G. And though it is running better that I expected I no longer have root access. I've searched high and low for instructions on rooting after going to ICS, but to no avail. I too don't want to re-install every app, and would like to use my TB backup. Anyone have success rooting the 4G with ICS?
Thanks!

I rooted from GB, but it was a pain in the neck because all of the links were dead (mostly because mega upload got screwed).
OP - I'd highly recommend epinter's CM10 Jelly Bean. It's quick, and other than the default video camera not working I've only encountered a few minor bugs. Nothing game-breaking at all, and it's probably still less buggy than the default gingerbread build the Atrix comes with. Jelly Bean also means you get more 'buttery' apps, so everything feels much more smooth, which is the major change over ICS or GB.
Good luck

Hello all,
this is my first time rooting and i have read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616, im downloading the files as i type, so my question is, it it hard to root my thunderbolt? also ive read the pros and cons, and i would also like to know from u rooters, what do u like from a rooted phone?
for those who want to just the question, here u go:
1) it it hard to root my thunderbolt? (following the link)
2) u rooters, what do u like from a rooted phone?
yes im excited to attempt to trying to root my thunderbolt ^^
It's not hard, just fallow the instructions to the letter and of course make sure you have adb set up and the proper drivers installed. After that it's pretty much a cut and paste affair.
Second question: Root = freedom, simple enough.
I went to Youtube to setup my adb.

so for now its ok to have no busybox, after i install a ROM it will be in that ROM correct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153055 this is the ROM i am thinking, will i be able to get that onto my phone? i did the 2.5 version
also ty i appreciate answering my questions!
Before you flash any ROM, do yourself a huge favor, and read the OP (original post) and then read it again. Follow the directons carefully. After your first time its like riding a bike. Search the thread before asking questions too since you will likely get hammered by people for asking questions already asked and answered. Good luck.
BAMF is a great ROM, you might search later in the thread for RC5, Adryn leaked a preview with a different kernel than RC4.

You'll need an MR2 radio for that ROM, I recommend the one from the OTA. You can find it in the development thread, it gets flashed through hboot.
Edit: And yes, the ROM you flash will have busybox built in. And +1 for the post above mine, use the search function, it works well. When you do have a question post it in that ROM's thread or keep it in the Q&A section. Best of luck to you.
Hey there! Yes, this is my first post in this forum I believe, but I've been a heavy lurker since December. Currently, my tbolt is rooted and has been for a few months. I'm running BAMF 3.0 RC4 and I can honestly say, the pros far outweigh the cons. A few of my favorite pros is the ability to run a wider selection of apps, more control, the speedier updates from devs compared to Verizon/HTC, overclocking, better controlled over battery life, no bloat removal..the list goes on and on. Basically, being rooted allows me to make changes to my phone to fit my needs. And yes, it is incredibly easy IMHO to root this phone. Good luck, and have fun.
Should mention too that I did mess up my radio when I flashed GB but it was quickly fixed by reflashing. So the only con has been my own fault. I also believe that you can restore the phone to a "fresh out of the box" state should you ever need to take it back.

Try the RC5 preview with the new MR2 OTA leaked radio. Smoothest combination I've used yet.
Yeah definitely would suggest flashing the official MR2 radio as well. It's been the most solid for me. Had issues with 2.5, and I had slow 3g speeds on the leaked MR2.

I'll try BAMF again when RC5 is officially released. My phone really likes Ziggy's kernels. Was flashing almost daily since I got my bolt trying to find decent battery life. Running Synergy now for a week with no issues. Liked the other roms, but Ziggy's kernel gives me the best life.

Hey im new to the forum and love the work you guys do here. I rooted my Photon so far have wifi tether and all the goodies like that up and running, however im interested in flashing a rom now.. BUT with Ice Cream Sandwhich (hopefully) coming soon to the Photon im a bit unsure.. Can i somehow restore my phone back to stock and do an ota or however they send (if they do) the ICS update for the photon? Assuming i do end up flashing a rom, and if i can restore it, how difficult would it be..? Also what would you guys advise for battery life, the Homebase or Alien rom? Its the biggest thing im looking for from flashing a rom really. I just dont want to go through and flash a rom on my phone then a few weeks later see ICS get sent out and i somehow cant update until a dev creates a rom of it. Thanks and sorry for nooby questions but ive been digging here for a while trying to find the answer to these. Thanks!!
You can restore to stock with an SBF flash/RSD Lite - easy enough.
The roms, you should try both and see which best suits your need and use.
Don't accept an OTA - it may ruin out root exploit.
I'm on home base ROM.v1.5 with update 4.2. Not much difference in battery life between the two ROM's and not much improvement that I have seen from stock.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216143 - you'll need to go here if you haven't unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom recovery. It'll also answer your question about returning back to stock.
On a side note, has anyone tried the Star Wars ROM, i think people have forgotten about that one.
I never did try that one. Does it have any support still?

Agreed... Make sure you follow the steps carefully because this phone is much easier to soft brick than others. I have done it a couple times.
Also, I agree with the other posters, unless you really just wanna try it it's not all that worth it yet. No real big gains in performance or battery life yet
I'm thinking on installing NottachTrix4G on my ATT Atrix. It's currently rooted, and unlocked, running 4.5.91.
I can't seem to find any reviews or recommendations for NottachTrix4G.
Can anyone comment on their experience with it, if you already have it? Also, is there an install guide somewhere?
Thanks
Welcome to the forums! Read the actual thread for Nottachtrix. The developer is very much so respected, and has a huge number of fans that use his ROM, your best bet is to just give it a shot and use it for a day or two to see if you like it. Don't forget to nandroid back up your current setup before wiping anything that way you you can very easily switch back if you are dissatisfied. All it takes is a SEARCH, figured I would be the nice one before you get flamed with a million "Use search!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" replys
Info
There is some info about Nottach Trix on here:

and here:

Also if you used and liked Darkside and/or Wet Dream you are 95% likely to enjoy Nottach Trix.

I moved from Wet Dream to Nottachtrix. So far, I've found the rom to be completely solid, all features working as advertised and without glitches on my end. At whatever point he releases his compatible ICS theme, I'll be a very happy camper.
About the most painless way to get up to 4.5.141, I'd say!
Is 1.2.3 the most current Version?
And Sheepacurious, what state were you at before?
unlocked BL?
Rooted?
4.5.93?

Unlocked bootloader, rooted, the dev post says Wet Dream was 4.5.140. Had to back up apps and SMS data, obviously, but you don't have to "get your phone back to stock" in order to flash this rom -- just make a nandroid backup and give it a shot.

Its very nice rom the wayt it comes and you can choose what you want to add or remove its really great you should try it.
You can also go in and freeze more processes as well and right now man i got about 520 mb free and scoring around 6300 on antutu.
Its not like cm7 builds but you can use webtop and an alternative if you want to stack stock mainly for me its because i use my webtop.
try it it's pretty cool
I thought wet dream was awesome, this ROM is even better. I just downloaded it today and no complaints.

Previous State
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.4/4.5.91, Alien ROM
I accidentally hit the update option when it popped up on the screen instead of hitting later. Then I the wifi off on my phone and that prevented the update from being downloaded. I tried to do a couple of things to prevent it from downloading
1. Freezing Upgrader 2.3.4 using TiBu - This did not work.
2. Using CWM - Cleared cache etc and this did not do the trick either.
So, I finally gave up and used UncleCemka's guide to upgrade to 4.5.141 (2.3.6) and it was successful.
So, present state
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.6/4.5.141, Stock.
Can I flash NottachTrix4G? The thing I miss the most is the WebTop over HDMI
Thanks in advance,

Yes. It'll work fine. It doesn't mess with the webtop partition, so you'll need to re-do the HDMI exploit or flash the 2.3.6 webtop fruitcake which has that fix worked in.

Here you go. It's the Fruitcakes thread over in the dev forum.
now: you took the OTA update, which I'm pretty sure updated your webtop as well. The webtop fruitcake says 4.5.140; this may or may not be precisely the same version as your current one. With that in mind, I might try redoing the webtop-over-HDMI hack first since it's a pretty simple procedure and keeps your current version intact.
Somewhat of an Amaze newbie here, but so far the community and information here have been incredibly helpful, so I'm hoping someone can help with my next question.
I've been thinking about popping my ROM cherry and installing one of the custom ROMs here - more specifically the Energy and/or SpeedROM. I have the latest files for both, am rooted, currently using 4ext Recovery, with S-On. I've already performed a Nandroid and full backup with Titanium Backup, and from what I can tell should be ready to take the plunge. I just wanted to make sure that there isn't anything I'm forgetting or need to know before I take the custom route.
Thanks again for all the hard work and assistance!

Lol at popping rom cherry, have fun.
Just make sure your already on the ICS OTA update before installing custom roms. The OTA update updates the radios and some other system partitions that need to be updated prior to ics being installed. Best of luck with everything. I'm on NRG but Speed Rom is about to be I installed soonish.

Cool, I think I have that part covered as I'm currently running ICS 4.0.3, so hopefully that won't prove to be an issue.
One other quick question: Will this affect the Google Play Store? As in, since I would be running an unofficial ROM, would I be unable to connect to the store to download/update apps?

For some rom, you have to add the APN for data to work.
Since your new at thus don't go with any alpha betas or release clients make sure to go with something pretty stable til u get the hang of this dont wanna brick your phone and not know how to fix it :-\ I bricked my phone like 10 times with some of these roms pretty scary lol. 2nd question is whether, like previous Android phones I've had, the GS3 has several rooting methods or just one that everyone uses.
Thanks!

Preform the update or not, it will not make a difference when it comes to rooting. If you plan on installing a custom rom or updating to JB then save yourself the time and forgo the update. As you will be doing this when you install a custom rom or JB stock.
There are a few methods out there for rooting, just search around here on xda. The easiest method I have found is CFRoot using ODIN. It is packaged together, just do a search on xda for the thread and download. Really easy should take no more than 5 minutes.
