check your device status in setting >about device >status
Is it normal or modified?
Check latest firmware for your region on www.Sammobile.com and after download, flash it via odin.
Usually restores are of custom roms

Cheers. Can I still get ota updates when I'm rooted.. or is it best to unroot..

OTA updates will most probably fail on rooted phone. Unroot it or just update firmware using odin.

You can't get OTA updates when rooted. Find the last modem on SamMobile and flash it via Odin.

Kies can't upgrade...

Hi,
i recently flashed my s2 to ICS XXLPB but after short time restored it to gingerbread 2.3.4... but now when connected to KIES it say that can not update my phone and OTA update also don+t work... i entered *#1234# and got this... PDA: XWKI4 PHONE:XXLPB CSC:TMHKI1...
is there a way to restore this PHONE version to some that Kies will manage to upgrade?
Use should downgrade with odin to org firmware not with CWM because the Moden/Baseband is always from latest rom... Cwm cant re-/flash a Modem/Baseband correctly...

Unrooting, everything back to normal

Hi. I have rooted my S3, to see how it works with PS3 joystick (i am not too impressed)
I have rooted successfully via odin flash guide, but now i get strange problem.
Every now and then, when i want to turn on dispay, it works and show me that clock and then when i swipe to unluck, the phone doesnt respond.
When i power again, display dimms, and nothing happen. I cant unlock my phone, I need to hold power button to reboot, and than it is normal till i lock the screen and want to turn it on again.
My question is, how can i solve it, and if i can't, how can i get everything back to stock and normal?
Try turn off ripple effect in setting, see how it goes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
First of all, try disabling lockscreen entirely.
Then try performing a full wipe. If nothing changes, flash stock firmware via Odin. If this haven't helped, root your phone, reset bootloader flashing counter via TriangleAway, then flash full stock firmware and make a warranty claim.

As i thought, now, without changing anything, the problem goes away. But i think it will came back
I forgot one big thing!
!!!! When i first flashed PDA, i flashed it with something CF, not insecure kernel (MY FAULT). Then i got this problem but i can say that i couldnt use my phone. Only just after reboot. Then i flashed insecure kernel, al now problem is still here but it is not so often, but i must fix this.
So maybe the problem is because i flashed wrong file, so "bad" files are still here?
Is there an easy fix for this?

I flash original firmware form here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969 Is that right or not?
Than i know now hot to root, and i think this triangle away is easy too.
And one more question, which firmware is the newest and best? This XXALF2; Firmware Info PDA: XXALF2 Phone: XXLF2 Date: 05/06/2012
I remeber that i had OTA this month so 6th month is pretty old IMO :S
You can go to sammobile.com to find the latest firmware for your country. Then follow the instructions as in the link you posted above.

[Q] rooted S3 can't update official JB

I rooted my Galaxy S3 the other day with the intention of installing one of the JB rom's out there. I thought as my S3 was not locked that the official JB update would be a little way off yet. Yesterday I find the official JB being pushed to my phone. It went through the update process and then said it could not update because my phone had been modified. I checked the rom version and it is now 4.1.1 so it seems to have actually updated everything apart from the interface which is still ICS.
Is there a way to get around this? If I do a factory reset will that wipe the root? Or can I do something to hide the root from the update?
All advice much appreciated.

Thanks for that. didn't realise the interfaces were the same. Was expecting a bit of a facelift but then I guess it's what's under the hood that counts.
It did say it couldn't update the software because the phone was modified so I am wondering what, if anything I am missing.
One thing I did notice pretty much straight away was the battery seems to be running down quicker. Could be my imagination of course but I will test it over the next few days to be certain.

Rooting will not stop you from updating OTA through KIES. It wont update through direct OTA.
Update via Kies or download the DLJ4 and flash with odin. You will have the same result

A couple of questions

Hey everyone, I just bought a used unlocked Galaxy S2 I9100 and I've been reading guides all day long about rooting, roms, flashing etc.
The phone came with Ressurection Remix and Siyah kernel, here are the full details:
Model Number
GT-I9100
Android Version
4.1.2
Baseband version
I9100XXLPX
Kernel version
3.0.31-Siyah-s2-v5.0.1+
[email protected] #6
SMP PREEMPT Sun Nov 11 12:25:24 PST 2012
AOKP version
M1
Build number
Resurrection Remix JB v3.1.2 by Westcrip
The question is how do I go back to the stock kernel and stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 ? A lot of guides around here talk about backing-up your phone but I guess that doesn't apply to me since I don't have any apps/contacts ?
If I want to install a different kernel do I just apply it with Odin over the current one or do I have to uninstall it first ?
I might have more questions later so bear with me as I don't want to brick my phone...yet

Or you can just use a recovery to flash another kernel/rom.

trying to return to stock

Hi all,
I am needing to return to stock as my phone needs to be repaired.
I have tried to return it back to stock by either using the the toolkit or manually, the only thing i cant get back to normal is the counter, it always stays at one.
I ran triangle away, which took it back down to one, removed root, loaded stock recovery and flashed a stock rom for my phone and then factory reset, the custom binary and system status is official but flash counter stays at 1.
Any advise what im doing wrong?

Hey I'm running paranoid android 3.15, and siyah kernel, which allows dual booting (or I forgot what it's called, I guess it's close enough) and I would like very much to also have a touchwiz rom, and the stock one was gorgeous, and hardly had any problems, I would like to know how to get both roms on my phone (I know how it works, no need to explain that) but after some research I couldn't find a suitable answer, so here I am!

Do I need to deactivate dual boot before starting the wo=hole process or is it irrelevant, also the tutorials given above work fine on my phone right?
if you flash a stock rom it will also give you a stock kernel.
