Hey everyone, I just bought a used unlocked Galaxy S2 I9100 and I've been reading guides all day long about rooting, roms, flashing etc.
The phone came with Ressurection Remix and Siyah kernel, here are the full details:
Model Number
GT-I9100
Android Version
4.1.2
Baseband version
I9100XXLPX
Kernel version
3.0.31-Siyah-s2-v5.0.1+
[email protected] #6
SMP PREEMPT Sun Nov 11 12:25:24 PST 2012
AOKP version
M1
Build number
Resurrection Remix JB v3.1.2 by Westcrip
The question is how do I go back to the stock kernel and stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 ? A lot of guides around here talk about backing-up your phone but I guess that doesn't apply to me since I don't have any apps/contacts ?
If I want to install a different kernel do I just apply it with Odin over the current one or do I have to uninstall it first ?
I might have more questions later so bear with me as I don't want to brick my phone...yet
Mobile odin is the app for you.
Later or you can jump to cmw and odin leagues.

+1 mobile odin is a great app.
Or you can just use a recovery to flash another kernel/rom.
Flash LSD over Odin .

There's lots of guides on rooting you should always search first.
One thing: downgrade to 4.0.3 before doing anything.

yes i found a lot off guides for different version for android that's why i am confused.
1. can you please suggest me a detailled one for my version:
GT-I9100
4.0.4
I9100XXlQ6
3.0.15-1060868
[email protected]#3
IMM76D.JPLPJ
2. how can i downgrade to 4.0.3
Download 4.0.3 from sammobile and flash through Odin. Then flash Siyah or Dorimanx kernel.
Sent from my potato running a potato.
You should spend a bit of time researching before you attempt anything. If you dont then youll be back on here whingeing about bootloop or Odin doesnt work....or bricked.
What is the point of telling you to flash a rooted kernel via Odin if youve not read the tutorials.
Or root, then flash a safe kernel using stock recovery>cwm.
And at the moment you are on firmware that could lead to a bricked phone if you do the wrong thing.

Please be more informative next time you post a question. Are you on 4.0.4 or what? And are you running stock rom (rooted/not rooted) or a custom one?
Sent from the Matrix
If you have the ROM that you get when you got the cellphone, then you will adviced if you have a update from samsung.
If you have a Custom ROM based on CM 10.1 [Google It] or AOKP [Google it] you can update in CWM [google it] without any wipe [Google it]
If you have a custom ROM based on Samsung, you need to wipe all the data and install it via CWM or ODIN.
^_^
sry for my english.

About your first point: thats the whole problem he stated.
About the second part: you're not completely right. If the OP indeed has a custom rom, then the updates from it (AOSP, AOKP or Samsung based) must be done like the developer says in his thread. @OP: in that case you won't get a 'Software Update'-notification, but maybe your rom has the Update Me-app or anything like it, so you can flash it through CWM.
If you (OP) are on a stock rom, then you have to flash the updates manually through Odin. However, if you're on 4.0.4, there is no update because it's the latest firmware.

I flashed my kernel and didn't write down the original kernel version....
I can get into download mode and CWM.
The device starts until the yellow triangle and then its it...
Now i am not sure which is the right kernel for me to get my device back started.
It's a german phone, not brandet and i baught it in august 2012.
This is the Product Nr: GT-I9100RWADBT
Dont know if i can do anything with it...
I tryed
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_DBT_LPI-v5.5-CWM5
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5 and
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5
but all didnt worked for me.
I tryed the search, but i didn't find anything close matching mine problem yet.
If there is i am sorry is didnt saw it yet.
