so i had this problem with my phone that about a 1 cm margin on the right side of my phone just doesnt respond and before you ask yes i factory reset and even went back to stock rom, but it just wouldnt fix it.
so had this problem for about one month and i got extremely annoyed with it ESPECIALLY because i got this phone when it came out so i still have more than a year left with this phone.
so i finally decided to give HTC an email about it.
they promptly responded with an email with a phone number for me to call and check on my warranty and talk about repairing my phone.
i called like a couple minutes ago and after like five minutes of staying in phone call limbo and listening to some catchy elevator music i got through to someone who sounded like she was tired because she slurred her words. it was not a bother for most of my friends talk like that. anyways back to the subject, i told them id numbers and told them that my LDI(liquid damage indicator) was white, which means no water damage. and she said
"well it seems everything is in order, your warranty is still in effect and we can replace your device's screen and you can have it back within two weeks for free you would just have to pay about ten dollars for shipping."
Eh i didnt care as long as i get this **** fixed. BUT THEN
i had to ask the question
what if i unlocked my bootloader?
she slowly responded with "well i'm sorry but that would void your warranty"
FUUUUUUUUUUU-
then i proceeded to ask her why, she said that if i sent in the device then more than just the screen would have to be replaced because they would have to get something with a locked bootloader. i asked how much...
$200 without shipping
well right now i am slamming my head into the wall for the unfortunate turn that happened.

dude! just make a cover up and re-lock your boot loader... they dont need access to anything to replace the screen.
its litterally like a couple screws, pull the phone apart, disconnect a ribbon cable, pull old screen out, put new in, and so on... (they dont need in your hboot)
so just lock it, call back, and tell them whats going on. dont mention anything about hboot/unlocking. just let them fly into it blind
i was thinking that but do you think that would work??
for some reason i think that it will leave type of footprint and then i get a call from HTC saying
"your device has had an unlocked bootloader, please fork up 200 bucks"
also another thing, do you think if i actually do that would it be safe to go back to stock rom, in case they test it and see the custom rom and sayWTFBBQSAUCE
F#$k that, send it without the battery and relock it lol

Use the S-Off method, but do not install Juopunut's HBOOT. It will say your phone is locked instead of relocked. Then you can use a fastboot command to make it S-On. They won't have a damn clue what hit them!
thanks everybody,
i dont think i will have to s on my bootloader because i have yet to s off.
this exact reason was why i was holding off on s off because that will definitely void the warranty, well i think i will start my journey on locking my bootloader,
so just to make sure, what should i exactly do.
this is what i think i should do
go back to stock rom, i think(btw if anybody has the stock rom, help me out)
lock bootloader,
lose root?
and then im set?
regardless i will wait untill this weekend to do any of that because i am busy during weekdays,
Also, to get s off, wouldnt i just have to do a command like 'oem lock'
or something like that

Well, most likely, your warranty would not be void due to your bootloader being unlocked regardless of what the rep told you. As long as rhe issue with the phone is a hardware issue, which yours certainly is, it should still be covered by the warranty unlocked or not..

Alright so long story short I tried to rush through rooting my new phone here without checking everything out too much (complete fail on my part...but I wanted it rooted before I went out to the bars to save some battery life haha...ironic, now I'll have no phone tonight).
I went to root it and it somehow got screwed up...the sense launcher wasn't showing up along with the fact that when I pulled down the notification bar and hit settings, it crashed, so I went to unroot it with the RUU 1.13.651.1 and when I got to the comparison screen it said I had 1.13.651.1_R2...and being already frustraited at this point, decided how worse could it get? Tried it out, not my brand new phone is stuck at the black htc screen....fail.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I tried running it again to no avail...I'm about to try the other RUU to just see if it works, but I'm running out of other ideas. Anyone that can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Well, the good news is the phone is not hard bricked, it has a soft brick and is recoverable. Redownload the RUU and try again, but make sure you have the correct one. If that doesn't work you'll have to unlock with htcdev, flash a recovery and flash a ROM. Then try the RUU again if you no longer want root.
Like others have said...it sounds like there is hope for your phone yet. Take your time and CAREFULLY follow instructions for whichever process you choose. Hopefully you post again later saying you were able to fix it.

First off don't feel too bad, No matter how sure you know what your doing we all make mistakes. I paperweighted mine while manually installing some mods last night. If you would of watched the how to RUU the evo lte you would of seen that that the black HTC screen is perfectly normal. The phone will sit on that screen for like 10 minutes sometimes it will reboot and sometimes you will get differnt screens. The key is to have the drivers handy and install them if ur PC ever calls the device android 1.0.
The RUU version 1.13.651.1_R2 is the one you should be using. As scary as it is you just need to be patient, and let the RUU run it may look like nothing is happening but something is.

Nice! Who said there are no more Good Samaritans?

Hello all,
I've experiencing some problems with my GSM Evo 3d. The touch buttons (home, menu, back & search) are not (always) responsive when i puss them. So when i want to go the the home screen or to options the devices won't respond or sometimes responds a while (~>2 mins) later (multiple times). [Sometime it's also typing random letters or making random touch gestures (launching programs, typing in message e.g.)]
This problem I'm experiencing with multiple custom roms (CM10, CM9, mwakious3Drom, Virtuous_Eclipse) so i tried flashing back to stock rom (tried RUU_Shooter_U_HTC_Europe and RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1_Radio) but the problem persist. I believe the problem start when flashing CM9 DevilToast a view weaks ago, but I'm not sure. Before this i was running Virtuous_Eclipse for a few months without any problems.
Unfortunately i don't have a Nandbackup from stock anymore (lost/deleted it when switching sd card), so no going back to my original stock.
I've searched the forum and google but didn't find a thread similar or a solution. Anyone a clue to fix this issue or to whats it relating to?
Thanks in advance!

So it's hardware gone bad? No software problem?
That the buttons not responsive i get more often on custom roms, but that also could be judgemental since i hardly use(d) the phone when i'm back to stock.
(btw i'm s-off)
Honestly, the Rom itself is normally not the cause but rather the kernel you maybe using or the digitizer itself. What kernel have you been using if I may ask?

I believe when flashing one of the custom roms (CM9 or CM10 i think) i/it flashed a custom kernel. But since i flashed stock RUU rom.zip yesterday i guess it's back to htc kernel?
Tru 'settings, about phone, software info, more' the following kernel info is presented:
Kernal version:
3.0.16-ge733189

SMP PREEMPT
After reading your first reply about digitizer i found out that when applying pressure (by pushing) to the side of phone just above 2d/3d switch its 'applying touch' to the screen.
as said by Jsparta26 you have a faulty digitizer..I had the same problem...my phone had a mind of its own pressing things and not letting me do what i want...I think the only fix is going to service centre for replacement or fix...i got mine fixed..n its fine till now ! (i was noot rooted then)

I bought the phone >1 year ago in an online shop plus a two year contract of KPN (=carrier). The website of the shop states an one year warranty of the shop itself and a two years warranty of HTC. After 1 year i'm suppose to send it directly to HTC. So carrier (KPN) isn't an issue right? And the bootloader is currently locked tru flashing RUU, thats allright? Or do i need to perform additional steps?

Seems to me you got lost. This forum has nothing to do with Samsung phones
Out of the blues yesterday my HTC Evo 3D GSM (S-on) running MIUIV4 (with antrax kernel 3.5) went down with no warnings whatsoever. Now the screen is distorted showing millions of colored dots. All the buttons are working. If I move my hand over the screen in the right direction I can even hear it unlock though I can't see anything but those dots.
Worst part is I am not able to go into the bootloader as well or rather I can't see it in bootloader, the screen is blank. ADB and fastboot commands work properly when connecting to my laptop. Recovery also shows the same colored dots and nothing else.
Ran out of ideas to try fixing it on my own. Before I take it to the service center, would like to have another opinion on what might be the problem. Any inputs appreciated.
I would suggest reflashing an hboot and then reflashing a rom if you are able to.
If after that it is still doing that then its probably a problem with the screen.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
Anthrax kernels are only to be flashed with s-off I believe
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
Might be a digitizer failure
As a last ditch effort, I would boot into bootloader (even though you can't see it), relock the bootloader (fastboot oem lock) and then run the ruu.exe for your area/carrier. This will completely put you back to stock which hopefully fixes it. If not, your back to stock to take it in for repairs.
Thanks for the input guys.

Thanks, will try that out and lets see if that fixes it. Will update soon.
Update: Tried running the RUU but didn't fix the problem.
Took it to the HTC authorized center, they told me that the display needs to be changed. After a week or so they told me there is some motherboard issue and they are trying to fix. And yesterday they gave up and said they can't fix the issue.
When the authorized center itself says it can't fix , finally given hope on my beloved EVO 3D and back to nexus one running CM7 :crying:.
I just bought an HTC 3D evo off craigslist, the seller said that he loaded the wrong ROM into it, he had android 4.0, tried to upgrade to 4.1.
I don't know if it is rooted or not, doesn't turn on at all (nothing happens, light, vibration, etc), i tried removing-the-battery trick, didn't work. I just want to load a new ROM into it so i can get it working again..
How do i do that?

As I have said, you need to be able to boot into bootloader mode to flash firmware. Whoever sold you that phone didn't tell you he hard bricked the phone in the process. The hboot had to have gottened corrupted. That's why you can't turn it on.

Here's a tutorial that you might find useful in helping you set up adb http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751439.
Now do not take this the wrong way, you should listen to what I'm telling about your phone instead of ignoring me and trying to prove me wrong. Especially since I'm educating you on adb. I gave you that link so I dont have to explain how to set adb up. You have to be able to access bootloader, recovery or have phone completely on to run adb. In the end you will realize what I have told you. The person who sold it to you screwed you over. Your phone is completely bricked. Truly bricked. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm always open to learn new things.
I would definitely concur with Jsparta26, you unfortunately bought your phone from a unscrupulous, deceitful azz wipe.

I don't know if it is rooted or not, doesn't turn on at all (nothing happens, light, vibration, etc), i tried removing-the-battery trick, didn't work. I just want to load a new ROM into it so i can get it working again..
How do i do that?
Thanks.

I read your problem and read through the other suggestions, It does sound bricked but have you tried a different battery?, I had a battery one time that once it went completly dead the phone would not charge it, I had to charge it though an external charger, once it had some juice in it it would charge fine with the phone. All i am saying is make sure it is not something as simple as a bad battery before you decide to use it as a paperweight. If you do get it to turn on, let me know and I can help you get it working again.

Thanks everyone wholeheartedly! i was abale to pay a guy 40 bucks to fix it using his jtag Apparentely he only had to rewrite the boot.
So for everyone having the same problem, JTag is your solution nothing else
Juste a small question, i have viper 3d rom on it and i was wondering is it the best ?

Its like I said. Your hboot was corrupted. That's great you got your phone booted back up.
Now as for viper 3d there's no "best" ROM. Its a subjective topic so its basically not allowed. I can tell you its very stable, has lots of tweaks, and highly customizable. Only thing is that is doesn't have 4g or 3d. And it works on any hboot.

here we go again! the phone is rebooting periodically now... wth do i do? as for viper , i want a rom that has 3d and is as good as viper, thank u!
The only roms with fully working 3d camera are sense 3.6 roms
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh!
brick fixable
I had the same thing going on w/my phone. Problem was: the hboot was corrupted.. The only way to fix this is with linux.. I don't recall the exact files or command that I ran but if you search you will find them and it will bring your phone back to life.. NOTE: every thread i found had old information with older hboots which have different filenames.. Once you find the information on how to fix your hboot aka "brick" you simply need to get your exact hboot file and replace (flash) it through linux.. there is even an ubuntu cd you can download and boot into so that you don't have to install Linux.. I'd give you more info, but I'm at work right now and don't have time to research it. Good luck..!!

today i have a problem with my evo. i loss my phone in my car, and at night was frost, - 20 C.
half of day phone dosnt power on. my first opinion was that the battery died, but when i measured voltage, i see 3.75V, thats normal for X-Polimer Battery. after i Inserting the battery at her place, and press power button, phone turn on
i dont know, may be i had to remove the battery for a long time, or during this time dry condensate, after frost.
