[Q] S2 Hard-Brick Help!!! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
My S2 Which is one month out of warranty , got hard bricked 2 days back. These were the series of events that led to it.
1)The battery got drained and the phone got switched off.
2) I plugged in the charger..phone boots...a minute later..it got switched off.
3) The phone does nothing... Black screen..can't get into recovery or download mode. :crying:
I took it to samsung service center ...they told me that it would cost me app 200$ to replace the motherboard.I have tried all methods that I came across in this forum and still nothin'. Have ordered for the Usb jig on ebay.
Please let me know if I should go ahead with mobo replacement or is there a cheaper alternative?? Any help is much appreciated guys
btw.. the phone was rooted and I think it was on Stock Ics XXXLPQ rom .

Sorry about that.
I know this is not the answer to your question but please provide answer to this question:
Were also running a custom kernel? if yes, please post the name of the kernel.

I9100t HARD BRICKED... SUDDENTLY

That is what happed this morning:
Woke up, whatsapp for a bit, suddenly, reboot itself, stuck in siya logo.
waited for 30mins, no luck, hard turn off (long press power button)..
after that, no more reboot, no download mode, no CWM, try the three button trick no luck, remove battery and three button trick no luck......
Here is what I have done with my phone before, It runs perfectly for like months:
Resurrection Remix Rom 2.2
Siyah Kernal (latest S2 version)
BLN
Overclock (200-1300) but stable with siyah
Apex launcher...
I sincerely beg for all genius developers to give me a hand...........
Try a download jig and see if that makes it respond.

...
you are damn right, I can't live without it...
my phone is out of warranty plus flashed count.......
plus still looking for a shop that do jtag in sydney...
...
Call wireless provider tell them a crazy story about an accident you had and your phone is crushed and bloody and if they provide upgrade then ask for an early upgrade due to no warranty that is what I did for my $3

If there is jo Jtag shop in Syndey, you can send it overseas for Jtag repair. But I suppose it costs a lot of money.
Alternatively, you can send it to Samsung, play stupid (phone didnt turn on this morning) and keep your fingers crossed.
Wish you luck mate.

Could anyone shed some light on all these bricked phones that were bricked out of the blue - without users fault? I mean, there are so many threads about bricking phones while doing nothing - the phone was just normally used, or even with the screen off, and it just turned off by itself/rebooted itself/froze and there was no way to recover it... Similar thing happened to me month ago - I was on a safe stock 4.0.3 ROM with safe kernel (mmc_cap_erase disabled), I have just started a game that I play regularly, the screen froze, I have waited for some time, then tried to do a hard reboot, got stuck at booot logo, and that was it. Recovery was erased - no way to enter it, download mode was still alive but it was stuck while trying to flash anything - there was an error while trying to write rom, kernel etc. I had to sent it to repair centre...
Thos was just an example, one of many. So, the question is - is this bad Samsung hardware in action, or software bugs that are causing hardware malfunctions or something else? I mean, I had few HTC Android phones before, and I have never saw anything like SGS2 Q&A forum - every second thread is about bricked phone...
Any thoughts?
I think people jump in with both feet without doing much research.I don't blame them,as I just flashed RR3 and I didn't fancy reading 62,000 posts.
Plus its a very popular phone,so maybe its only a tiny %age that are faulty.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II i9100 Doesn't start

Hey, I now have my Galaxy around a year and three months and two weeks ago I decided to root my phone. I now have the cyanogenmod 9 ROM on my phone and it did the job. A week ago my phone freezed at random moments, and it responded to nothing so I took the battery out every time and everytime it worked fine again. But today when I was at school and put my phone in my pocket (I don't remember if I turned it off) when I took it out of my pocket again it didn't respond to anything. So now I just have a black screen and I can't get my phone to boot up in recovery mode, download mode or just normal. I already have used the battery of my mom's galaxy (Btw they're both from t-mobile but in Holland) but still no response. My battery works fine in her phone, so I don't think it is a problem with the battery. What can I do???

Try using a USB Jig see if that works? If you don't have one there dirt cheap off eBay, you make your own or try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869203

Okay, but I thought (?) that you then need to set the phone to download mode and I can't get it to do anything... Do you know another store to buy a USB Jig because in the Netherlands you don't have ebay?
Do you look in that thread ?
You can borrow from your country and city(if there is)
Send form Galaxy S2. Using XDA Premium

I live in Haarlem so no, but maybe I can borrow it from someone in Amsterdam that is like small 30 min with the train. But. just to be sure, is there a chance that a USB JIG will fix the problem, if I push the power button of the Galaxy nothing happens...
USB jig is go to download mode and then you can flash stock Rom.
You don't need to do nothing when you plug in USB jig.

Okay thanks I saw some youtube vids but it looked their android phones did at least boot up and then got stuck or things like that.
I have bought a USB Jig but it didn't work ( I put the battery out for ten seconds, put it back in and then plugged the USB Jig in). Is there something else I can do? Btw isn't it very strange that the phone worked for 2 weeks and just stopped (after sometimes random freezing in the last week)?

Bricked My Phone?

Last night I was able to root my phone flashed the recovery mod and used the overclocked kernel that was listed in the dev forums for my phone. The phone was running fine until I went to bed, this morning I had woke up and went to look at my phone and it was off. Thinking the battery died while I left it unplugged all night I found meh.. might be the reason. Let the phone charge while I was in the shower for about 15 minutes got out and tried to turn the phone on and unable to get a response. Tried to boot the phone to Odin mode with no luck also tried getting my computer to pick up the device with no luck at all. Few questions, is my phone bricked? If so I've only had the phone for 15 days do you think I would have any luck getting the phone replaced at a store? and is there anyway that they would be able to tell that I had rooted my phone flashed recovery and installed a kernel if I cant even get the phone to respond in any way shape or form? Any advice you have or situations where you where in the same boat would be a great help. Thanks again.

Indeed sir, removed the battery let it sit for a minute or two...
According to your post...You are bricked
Samething happend to me..just few days ago but my phone was out of warranty...so I need to pay for ...a board change (I9100) tht was the solution for me not for uh
Now as you said ...if you are fully bricked and you just bought the phone 15 days ago ...then you have still 99.9% chances that they will replace your main board
....
Last year when I bought my phone S2...after some time when I came hyr on xda rooted my phone ...once I bricked ...so I went to samsung care ...and made a story...and bang they taken my phone got my job sheet ...and after 4 days got my phone they changed my main board...
Main topic...they can't check whtr you are rooted...or not if you are bricked fully...so just visit samsung care...and make a fake story...all set just sit back for few days ...

As I had mentioned this morning I woke up and plugged my phone in for a good 15-20 minutes while I took a shower. There after when I looked at my phone it didn't show as if it was even charging most of the time it will at least show a charging logo. I let the phone sit plugged in for about 45 minutes and tried to soft reboot the phone holding volume and power still nothing came of it. Had taken the battery from the phone and put it back in with the same process to no success. I had removed the SIM Card from the phone replaced it back in the device and as soon as I plugged in the phone it showed the phone was charging. From that point I was able to reboot the phone with no issues.
I was worried due to the fact I had flashed the kernel last night and was toying with the settings given in the stweek that came after I flashed the recovery and kernel using the recovery options on reboot. Really don't have an idea as to why I had the issue that I had. But at the end of the day I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for a replacement.

[Q] S3 Charging Dilemma - Help needed urgently

Samsung Galaxy S3,
bought - June 2012
version- 4.1.2
I was facing charging problem with main socket as well as with USB cable.. I zeroed in to the fact that my s3 charging pins are faulty after trying all possible combination of different battery, charger, USB cable, phone etc. I have also done factory reset but it didn't solve the issue. I even bought a separate charger to confirm my findings and they did.
I called up Samsung repair center(3 June) as my phone was still in warranty, they lodged the complaint and will be sending somebody to collect the phone tomorrow(10 June).
I wasn't using my phone for the last 3-4 days, last night I just thought to give my phone charging a try and hey it started charging perfectly fine. I tried the USB cable and it is all good. I charged it again in the morning today and all set. No issues.
And I am all confused now. My dilemma -
1 - Now that my original issue looks to be resolved, should I still send my phone to Samsung repair center (which means that I will be without my phone for next 3-4 weeks, I cant expect Samsung to be more quicker than this)
2- if it is working fine, what Samsung will do with that phone?
3- Is it okay to send a working phone to repair center?
4- has my charging problem been just temporarily resolved?
Please suggest at the earliest as I have time till today only to decide whether to send this phone to Samsung or not. Let me know of any additional info that you need.
Many Thanks en avance
if it's aint broken don't fix it
maybe the phone just needed a good restart, just like your computer sometimes does
if they won't find any problem in Samsung lab they will do one of the 2 options:
1. give you the phone back - but it will take at least 14 working days
2. say it has corrosion on it and give you a refurbished one instead - now you have a new device in your hand - refurbished is REnewd!!

1. if the problem repeats, just change the cable. you are not gonna loose anything just calling samsung SC and saying no for their service are you?
2. if you still send it to SC, if it's fine(your phone will be returned), not fine(will send your phone after repairing).
3. nothing happens(the person who works on your phone just thinks this guy is too tensed for a little problem )
4. may be
many charging problems are related to cable rather than the phone. :good:

Thanks Sriram for your comments, so there is no harm in sending to Samsung repair even if the phone is okay. Just that I will be away from my for next 3 weeks
I hope their repairing wont bring out any new problem in my phone.
