[Q] S3 Charging Dilemma - Help needed urgently - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Samsung Galaxy S3,
bought - June 2012
version- 4.1.2
I was facing charging problem with main socket as well as with USB cable.. I zeroed in to the fact that my s3 charging pins are faulty after trying all possible combination of different battery, charger, USB cable, phone etc. I have also done factory reset but it didn't solve the issue. I even bought a separate charger to confirm my findings and they did.
I called up Samsung repair center(3 June) as my phone was still in warranty, they lodged the complaint and will be sending somebody to collect the phone tomorrow(10 June).
I wasn't using my phone for the last 3-4 days, last night I just thought to give my phone charging a try and hey it started charging perfectly fine. I tried the USB cable and it is all good. I charged it again in the morning today and all set. No issues.
And I am all confused now. My dilemma -
1 - Now that my original issue looks to be resolved, should I still send my phone to Samsung repair center (which means that I will be without my phone for next 3-4 weeks, I cant expect Samsung to be more quicker than this)
2- if it is working fine, what Samsung will do with that phone?
3- Is it okay to send a working phone to repair center?
4- has my charging problem been just temporarily resolved?
Please suggest at the earliest as I have time till today only to decide whether to send this phone to Samsung or not. Let me know of any additional info that you need.
Many Thanks en avance

if it's aint broken don't fix it
maybe the phone just needed a good restart, just like your computer sometimes does
if they won't find any problem in Samsung lab they will do one of the 2 options:
1. give you the phone back - but it will take at least 14 working days
2. say it has corrosion on it and give you a refurbished one instead - now you have a new device in your hand - refurbished is REnewd!!

1. if the problem repeats, just change the cable. you are not gonna loose anything just calling samsung SC and saying no for their service are you?
2. if you still send it to SC, if it's fine(your phone will be returned), not fine(will send your phone after repairing).
3. nothing happens(the person who works on your phone just thinks this guy is too tensed for a little problem )
4. may be
many charging problems are related to cable rather than the phone. :good:

Thanks Sriram for your comments, so there is no harm in sending to Samsung repair even if the phone is okay. Just that I will be away from my for next 3 weeks
I hope their repairing wont bring out any new problem in my phone.

i tried to disable it .. but it comes on again and again .. and phone sometimes says that the USB is plugged on and charging .. when it's already not !! .. and sometimes it says that im plugging AC on the usb port .. when i plug it on my pc !!and the auto rotate for the screen is allways enabled .. even it was disabled on the settings!! .. and when i set the powr off .. it runs again by it self!

It's possible that it's a software problem, but I strongly suspect this is a hardware issue. Sorry to say that RTM may be the only answer!

Like I said, you can't rule out a software issue, but it sounds more likely that there's a physical problem with the USB port and it's making the phone think it's in car mode every now and then. If it were a software issue then I think we'd see a LOT more people with the issue. When you think about how many SGS2 users there are on XDA, and compare that to the number of people who have had this issue you'll see that it's a tiny number really. That definitely sounds more like a manufacturing issue than a software one.

i agree with you actually .. it seems like a hardware problem .. not a software one cuz i literally changed everything on the device .. kernel, rom everything .. but hardware !
let's wish that it's a software problem even if we were 99% sure that it's a hardwore issue ...
thanks again ..

Absolutely! I wish you luck mate.
i restored the orginal rom,kernel
30 mins now no problems yet!
I have the same problem with my Galaxy S2. It started like a week ago or something. I tried to upgrade the firmware to the latest, but it seemed like that only made it worse. I haven't rooted my phone, so I'm obviously using the stock rom. Any tips to what I should try to do? It's a really annoying problem.

Car mode is triggered by a certain resistance value between pin 4 and 5 on micro usb plug, either dirt, oil, sweat on exterior part of it (most likely) or some condensation/oil on the inner part- where it's soldered to the the mainboard.
My advice would be to take out the battery and try to clean it with small brush, contact spray ( make sure it dries out before attaching the battery)....or go to a phone repair center to have the plug cleaned...
it should do the trick
I tried cleaning it with contact spray but it didn't work. Haven't tried using a small brush yet, cause I haven't got one. Any other suggestions or should I just explain the problem to Samsung and send it in?
Edit: Nevermind. I noticed that car mode wasn't popping up later in the evening. I restarted my phone and now it seems to be working perfectly. Thanks for the help!
I have the same problem everytime i use the car charger...but restarting the phone solves this problem atleast till I plug in the car charger.
Same for me. It really bugs me. I'm thinking of RMA.
the problem still on my phone .. i changed everything on my phone .. seems like it's a hardware problem with some devices .. like mine and yours
and i hardly think that we can solve it by our selves .. we need to send it back to samsung and see what they say!

In your 'Voice Talk' settings, under 'Wake Up Command', you may have 'Wake up command & 'Only on while charging' ticked.
I have the exact same problem, does anyone have a definite solution yet?
Me too have the same issue. it starts up while using the wall charger and even if unplug charger it pops up sometimes and my home screen lights up and remain ON causing battery drain. don't know any fix for this yet. can anyone please advise....
thanks
I've had this too when I spilled coke on my table, I think some droplets went on the usb port of my SGS2 that was also on the table.
Same issues happened: Car mode automatically starts, Phone hangs, etc. I've read car mode is triggered when certain resistance in the usb port is met(Just like the 301k for the download mode).
What I did was, I turned of the phone, removed the battery, then inserted a wet/moistened(NOT DRIPPING, water only) cotton on the phone's usb port. Compress the cotton with your finger first so that excess water will come out + the cotton wont have dangling strands. Remove/reinsert cotton until satisfied.
Be sure to let the port dry first before powering it up again.

Hi all, I have the same problem with voice talk - driving mode enables its self and sometimes it says I´m plugged with USB port and phone is charging.
I have had also problem with AUTO START. I´ve switched phone off, and it automatically start on!!
I´ve tried factory reset, disk formatting - 4-5 times, no applications yet and again the same problem with voice talk.
This problem started 2days ago, after one week use.
I have XWKE7 (2.3.3), no root, original from Orange SK and I don´t know what to do now, whether to go to Orange and reclaim.
thanks for suggestions.

Doesn't solve the problem... I'm waiting the usb jig to return to the store.

(Solved) fake charging in galaxy s2

If you are facing an issue with Samsung galaxy SII with fake charging and you think that it’s a port issue and you are willing to change the USB port for your device please stop and action the below steps 1st to make sure that its not a software issue
• Take a backup from all your data in the internal memory
• Wipe your device by dialing the code *2767*3855# in your phone app
• Open the device in the download mood and flash on it a stock 2.3.5 OS
• After that you’ll find your device working like charm
• Don’t root your device in this phase, just flash it with a stock 4.0.3 and then flash it with the root from CF-root
• After that you can flash a custom ROM and I recommend Resurrection Remix
• The idea that you change from ICS to ginger bread that you will completely wipe everything in your device so it will be as if you are buying it new.
Appreciate that the above is helping people having this issue as I had it and now its solved.
The Original Post down there
Dear XDA team,
Appreciate your support on the below:
I’m an android user since 2009 I had many devices since that date ended with galaxy SII i9100 “international edition” 16GB
It was working fine from Dec 2011 till 4 days back.
4 days back the battery was 10 % and I plugged the original charger to the device and I slept for about 8 H, then I unplugged the charger how ever since that time my device is having the animation of the charging in the battery and its giving that its already plugged to the charger.. The main issue that I thought it’s a USB port issue so I tried to clean it with alcohol and with a tooth brush gently and nothing was helping... then I found that in the CWM the USB cable is working fine in mount mood so this means that nothing bad with the port so I tried to think about the ROM, I formatted the system drive and cleaned the kernel and installed the official software ICS 4.0.3 and I removed the root.. I still have the issue and its always giving me that the battery health is overvoltage I asked someone in the local warranty and he stated that there is some issue with water with the device which I know by heart that it was not effected by water.. I thought maybe because all the galaxy SII users are experiencing overheated issues and we spent most of the time in air conditioner here in Egypt so it can affect by heat and the condensation process but supposed that the device must have a failsafe protocol .. I have a good faith in Samsung but I found that the issue is still there and nothing was treated, someone told me that it can be a battery issue and you have to install a new battery and I did changed the same and I tried to put also the battery in deep freezer to lose its volts and nothing helped ..
Last trouble shooting made was to try to remove the battery and put the device in the sun to have any amount of moisture away and I let it about 3 H and also I put the charger in the device without the battery and I found it opening without battery as this was for me something strange.
Please share your ideas with me as I can’t find help from the warranty or from anyone and I don’t want to void my warranty by changing the USB port as most of people advised to..
Waiting for your kind ideas to help me with my poor situation
Sorry for making it long for you to read all the above but I really want to explain everything I did to help in solving the problem as I searched the internet and I found that many people are experiencing the same.
Your kind feedback is highly appreciated.
i'm sorry to tell you but it seems that you do have some problems with the usb flex cable (usb socket) and from what i have read here it seems that it doesn't need for the phone to be soaked in water... just condensation can cause you these problems... so you can guess what i can advise you... replacement
when i had the same problem i took it to servicing and they dismounted it and cleaned it properly, it worked for a couple of days but i ended up replacing the faulty part

My experience is different. I just got the phone and it was charging normally albeitba little slow compared to my sensation but now with a custom rom it has the fake charging issue.

If you were on a gingerbread rom before you should know that it doesn't show you that error, but you can try. And also I'm not trying to be rude but search for this problem and read the specific thread... Last time I checked there were almost 20 pages about this problem.

If you don't want to change the part for the USB port, then you're eliminating the one thing that will definitely fix your issue.

I did all what you've mentioned and its not helping i guess its a battery issue as i tried something here .. i put the device in the download mood and its was connected to odin fine .. also now am having the device connecting as internet tethering activated on my laptop.. definitly i need a larger battery to use but the issue that no one is selling the same in Egypt
if any one know a place in Egypt selling <2000 MAP battery for Galaxy S2 i'll be glad to have this thing done ASAP.
today i went and through the device to the warranty office in order to be fixed there and they had a look in the device they mentioned that its a recurrent issue and it must be water and they will check the same and feed me back .. warranty here in Egypt is sucks like everything about this damn country.
wish me luck
Before doing anything dramatic, try the following method, which worked successfully for me:
Get a compressed air can and blow the USB input a few times in short bursts. Do not use anything else than compressed air, unless you want to run into more serious problems.
I face the problem calibration also not working and i got no ans that can solved the problem for me too now m also searching the result.

[Q] S2 Hard-Brick Help!!!

Hi.
My S2 Which is one month out of warranty , got hard bricked 2 days back. These were the series of events that led to it.
1)The battery got drained and the phone got switched off.
2) I plugged in the charger..phone boots...a minute later..it got switched off.
3) The phone does nothing... Black screen..can't get into recovery or download mode. :crying:
I took it to samsung service center ...they told me that it would cost me app 200$ to replace the motherboard.I have tried all methods that I came across in this forum and still nothin'. Have ordered for the Usb jig on ebay.
Please let me know if I should go ahead with mobo replacement or is there a cheaper alternative?? Any help is much appreciated guys
btw.. the phone was rooted and I think it was on Stock Ics XXXLPQ rom .

Samsung Galaxy S7 Boot Issues, Hardware Failure?

Hi everyone, I really hope somebody can help me with this.
My Mum made a Contract with the Provider o2-DE and they send her an Samsung Galaxy S7. That was in August 2016, the Contract ends in August 2018.
The only Issue she has with it is like I mentioned that the Device has serious Startup Problems, if she powers off the Device, it really becomes a Game of Luck to get it to Power on again.
First Question: Could this be related to the Device having too much Running-Time? (Like about 300+ Hours being on without a single reboot?)
Second Question: Could it be a Hardware Failure or like that o2 did send us a bricked Device which had this Problem from the Beginning?
The Device came with Android 6.0.1, We upgraded it to Android 7.0, we keep checking for Updates but we are kinda afraid of installing them since it needs about 4-5 Hard Reboots till it even starts installing the Update (Also afraid of bricking it because of the Boot Issues ) (And the Updates doesn't seem to bring any improvements related to this...)
And after installing Updates the Boot Issues are coming up again, the last Update even took me about 40-50 Reboots till the Device booted up normally again
Does anyone have an Idea what we could do next?
We eventually wanted to send it in for a Repair, but my Mum urgently needs to be available for Calls (like School of my Sis etc.) but o2 denied sending us an Replacement Device she can use till the S7 would be repaired (which according to the Repair Site might take about 5 Days)
I really hope someone here has any Advice
Have a nice day!
I see that phone has some crack on screen , and also I think that restart can be battery problem or problem on mainboard , it s better to send to Repair !

The Crack on the Screen is gladly only in the Tempered Glass though The Device always gets really hot during the restart loop and Battery drains like hell, so I suppose it's maybe even both the Battery and the Mainboard... Anyways, thank you for your Answer, I'll try to send it in

Hardware or Software-level Problem? [Battery Issue]

This is bugging me for such a long time now. I've had this problem for such a long time. The issue is that everytime the phone reaches 100% of charge, and leaving it for a while (maybe like 5 mins-ish?), The phone suddenly reboots (hard reboot not soft-reboot) and continues to charge but in the idling turned-off mode (only the battery logo is displaying).
Solutions I've tried but didn't or barely work:
Replacing the Battery itself
Switch to different Kernels
Switch to different ROMS (MIUI, AOSP, OOS etc.)
Full drain to 0% and charge to 100% while off
This leaving me confused af and irritated because everytime I want to charge my phone overnight or I just want to leave my phone charged all the time to minimize the battery degradation, the phone reboots completely out of the blue, letting me miss the notifications that I haven't read yet. I need help on this please.

Unfortunately it doesn't solve the problem. The issue still persists
you need to take the device to the service I guess this is not a software problem
Probably an issue with the board already, either due to a fall or maybe the device you bought may have just have been defective. I would have suggested that you brought it to a service center (since you said you had the issue for a longtime then maybe you could have had it serviced while it still had warranty)

Oh I forgot to mention, yes it may have been a long time issue, but it just started to happen right around 3 months after I bought it. I bought my phone brand new last year, and it didn't have the issue I'm facing now. Sadly, the warranty doesn't cover the battery issue, since I just bought it form a random retail store (not Xiaomi)

Sorry to hear that. Well, it would be best to have it checked by a repairman by this point since based on all the info you've provided you've tried all the troubleshooting steps software wise, so it may be the board by this point. Or if that random store offered you a repair warranty (most rando stalls in my country has that, not sure about yours) then you may swing by there
what about charger?
seems like the only thing that you didnt check

Well if it's a hardware issue from the board itself, maybe I'll just pass for now. The repair warranty though doesn't really cover some major problems like motherboard and battery, it actually needs to paid so ig it's a no for me. I'll just replace it myself over time if the board breaks itself.
