[Q] ParanoidAndroid 2.+ for T-Mo VIBRANT - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good afternoon, all
Now, first off, Much *Thanks* TO PARANOID ANDROID. I'm only in here instead of the Development post for the ROM itself because I'm forced to be My post count is under 1, currently, though I've been a member (and daily visitor) here for years. >_> I've been in development since the archaic days of Android, way back to the G1... even helped with the advancement of apps such as Handcent, Missed Call (Anno's), Linda File Manager, etc... Now, before I get too off topic, I was wondering if anyone (since I can't reach the developer.. again at these rules) knew when the 2.15 PA Update would be available for the Vibrant???
I feel like it'll be in the very near future since it's already up for three other devices and this wonderful developer tends to work quite efficiently. I ask because I flashed 2.14 last night, but couldn't get my notification bar to reach the bottom of my screen (stopped maybe a CM from the bottom) in Phablet Mode (Phone + Tablet) , so I instead flashed the BlackBean-4 update by TeamBAKED. But after I finished setting up BlackBean 4.0, I recently perused the PA thread again and found a picture that suggests the Notification Bar is supposed to be like that in Phablet Mode, so now I want to flash back.. BUT, I'll be so annoyed because I feel like they'll release 2.15 after I get through flashing and setting up 2.14 lol. This ROM is kind of a big deal. Ever since I rooted/flashed the Galaxy S 4G of one of my brothers, and found Paranoid Android ICS for his phone, I wanted a version for Jellybean and other higher-end devices.. Came on here the other day to check for a BlackBean update and saw SWEET JOY that PARANOID ANDROID 2.+ existed. Anyone have any idea? Thanks in advance for help, and again, MUCH PROPS to PARANOID ANDROID

[Q] AOKP or CM9?

Hi everyone,
It's been quite a long time since I've been on the galaxy tab 10.1 forum, since I gave my tab to my dad on January, and now I'm getting it back. So I'm kind of outdated about ICS roms. I've seen that there are two new ROM, the AOKP and CM9. I did a little research to see the difference between both, but didn't find major ones.
So I'm here to see your opinion, and feedback about each of the two ROMs. And does the camera work on AOKP or not yet?
Thank you

CM9 has not yet been released; you're talking about the nightly kang builds. If you want to know the differences between the kang CM9 builds and the Roman's Kang builds (AOKP), install one, try it, then install the other. Hint: the AOKP ROM has some controls that are not built in to the CM9 Kangs.
And for gods sake: the camera will not work on any of the ICS ROMs until Samsung releases their ICS with the drivers. Please stop asking this.
I am going to install and try both but it would nice to know the feedback of other users. I don't get it why you get pissed off when asking about the camera, as if i insulted you or blamed u for not having the camera working. I will keep asking if the camera works although i never use it, and if you have a problem with that, ctrl+w or alt+f4, X in the top right, alt+left arrow, damn there's lots of alternative to leave this page.
So does the camera work? Does the camera work? Does the camera work?

The reason he got pissed is because that question is asked over and over again. A simple search of these forums would have answered that question about the camera.
I just installed the AOKP ROM on my GT wifi last night, so far it is pretty good but I have not had it on there that long. I love having the chrome browser (or the ICS version of chrome) so I now have my bookmarks from my desktop.
Some of the popup windows when you install items are not that nice looking or smooth. Not all of my apps are showing up in the market and thats the other thing, my market is still market and not Play. I flashed the gapps 4.0.4 that was linked in the CM9 ICS wifi thread so not sure why it is still showing the old market.
I am getting used to ICS, many things seem very nice and smooth and some things not so nice looking and smooth.
I just recently took the dive and tried the AOKP first, was nice but browsers kept crashing, last night, installed the CM9 kangs and I'm liking it so far.
Will keep you updated.
I started with the AOKP ROM since I really liked its speed and features on my Galaxy Nexus. However, I noticed quickly that it wasn't too much snappier than stock. So yesterday I switched to CM9 and I have noticed that CM9 it's noticeably snappier all around.
I'll be sticking with this.
Thanks all for you replies, I appreciate that a lot.

Well I think it's obvious that my main thread is not about the camera, I'm basically asking about the two ROMs. You people just love to make a big deals about everything. Maybe because talk is cheap, you can say whatever you want.

you asked and he answered.
In my experience the AOKP rom is a lot less stable than cm9, but much more configurable. I had this problem with aokp where the system UI would force close nonstop, which was unbelievably annoying, so I switched to cm9 and havent looked back.
That's odd. In my experience, CM9 was sluggish and FC'ing all the time - I'm on AOKP 32 now and haven't had a single FC I see everybody talking about... And it's much more snappier then stock rom!
I've a korean version though, so I'm not sure if that makes it any different. Only issue I have is a "rolling" screen when I boot up the system + first lock screen. Turn the screen off and back on, not a single problem. (but thats a issue with the korean tab I read)

i just installed AOKP build 33, it's really nice but as said before, the System UI FC is really annoying, and the nav bar keeps on autohiding. however, when I disabled the nav bar glow, the system UI doesn't FC anymore. I'll test AOKP for a while, and then I'll try CM9. I have finals on monday, so I won't be able to switch a lot between roms.
thanks all for your help
just got another SysUI FC, seems that nav bar glow didn't solve the problem.
I have AOKP Build 34 installed and it is snappy and fast. I'll be checking out the CM9 nightly this weekend, so I'll let you know.
Rob
I've tried both AOKP ICS and CM9 ICS on my samsung galaxy tab 10.1. For me, the CM9 feels smoother, but the AOKP gives more ROM control features. For now, I'd like a smooth tablet..
cm9 or aokp
I have the cm9 in my 10.1 wifi now and I like it but when you multi task the launcher crashes frequently, although it does restart quickly.
The screen flickers often as many people have mentioned as well
Other than that its pretty good
The best part is the loss of touchwiz UI. The feel of touch operations is so much more responsive and smooth
Pershoot ICS builds
I have been using Pershoots latest builds on my tab, and things are fine but for the occasional flicker.
AOKP definately has more option for ROM control, and UI customization too. It allows for 5 icons instead of the standard three, and allows for setting custom options for long press of these icons. .
I reverted to CM9 though because even P5 AOKP is quite buggy. Some times you can't place the icons from the app drawer on a screen ( the screen just rotates twice), touch sensitivity seemed to be lesser.
The touch sensitivity on the pershoots build is quite good. I am able to comfortably play Temple Run, which used to be a disaster before.

Help Choosing a ROM

Hey guys my dad just got a Fascinate for his work phone and it's currently running Android version 2.3.5.. When I checked for a software update it said that was the newest version. Really? It never got ICS at least?
Now if this were my phone I would root it immediately and flash something newer onto it but it's my dad's, and he honestly does not need that many cool features and all that. Still, if the process was simple and the features were worth it, then I would be glad to do it for him.
I've been looking through the Fascinate forums and it doesn't look like any promising Jelly Bean ROMs are out. Maybe I am mistaken?
What is the most stable ROM you can recommend me that is relatively "new" as far as Android goes, as this Fascinate is still 2.3.5. I would just like something relatively new that is still being developed/updated, and is stable as it's my dad's phone and I can't constantly be babysitting it and fixing any issues.
Thanks guys (I have a feeling CM10 or so is the ROM I am looking for, as 10.1 doesn't seem to be up, but just let me know what is your opinion.)
Unfortunately yes, after the 2.3.5 update the Fascinate was completely left out in the cold and never got any further official updates. Lucky for us though, we have some extremely talented developers that have done far better than any crap Verizon might have pushed out on us.
You are certainly mistaken about the Jelly Bean Roms, there are a few really good options. Personally I'm running AOKP Milestone 1 (4.1.2) with Devil kernel and that's been my daily driver for a while now. CM10 would probably be your best bet for a 'stable' rom, although nothing is broken on AOKP too, so it's more a personal preference. The biggest issues that I see on here are related to phone calls (speakerphone, ringtone not playing, etc) so if he's to be on the phone a lot then you should probably skip JB honestly. This isn't to say there are workarounds and fixes but as you said, you don't want to be consistently fixing it, so...
Anyway, if it's his work phone and he values stability above all else and doesn't care about bells and whistles then perhaps staying with a good Gingerbread rom would actually be the best way to go.... Superclean and TSM Resurrection come to mind.
Search for JT's cm10.1 (Android v4.2.1) for fascinatemtd over on rootzwiki. I've been running this as my daily driver for the past month or two. It hasn't been updated for a couple weeks, probably because nothing is broken (nothing that I can find...)
My wife has a fascinate that I have running the cm10 nightlies (android jb 4.1). I'm in a similar situation as you in that my family member primarily needs a reliable phone, they won't really appreciate how cool it is that they're running the latest version of android, and I'll need to help out if anything doesn't work...
I haven't updated her phone for a month or two, but when I do it's a simple matter to update it via cmupdater. Very slick.
The safest option would probably be the gingerbread-based GeeWiz 2.9. The dev is awesome and has recently updated the build just to make it neat and tidy.

Ah yeah I forgot about geewiz. Another amazingly talented dev we're lucky enough to have, and better yet extremely active on these forums still. Do you have the link to the 2.9 thread? I can only find the 3.3.3 thread (JB) for some reason.
I personally don't like the changes in 4.2 over 4.1 so I went back to 4.1.2 for the time being. It's only little things like the notifications and lock screen, but for some reason I like the layout of 4.1 better... but that's just me. I have yet to try CM10.1 though so I may just give that a go in the future to see how it is.

Here's the link to the GeeWiz 2.9 thread. I point out GeeWiz 2.9 since it's the closest to what Verizon last delivered as "stock" (Gingerbread) for the fascinate that has also received recent support/attention. Back in the day, I was partial to the final SuperClean3 Milestone 2 release (albeit for some esoteric reasons around the illumination behavior of the hardware keys that I believe have since been addressed in GeeWiz).
On the CM10 vs. CM10.1 question, I've had the (purely subjective) impression that latter is a bit faster...

I also think that 4.2 was a little snappier, although I didn't do any actual testing to verify that. I just get annoyed really easy by the little things that I don't like, like the new notifications, and I think for now I'll deal with 4.1 because it's still plenty fast for my needs (using SmartassV2 and Zen seems to help a lot). Hopefully in the future CM or AOKP will add some features to make 4.2 feel like 4.1 (kinda like how there was some older ICS options in the JB AOKP).

sorry for off-topic, but what is your cpu OCd to if OCd at all
I've been running 200MHz min / 1200MHz max and screen off 200MHz min / 800MHz max (normal OC, not LiveOC). Battery life has been pretty good with it and it seems to be less sluggish vs stock. I also undervolt quite heavily too, you can check my thread I made about it in General a while back for my settings. I'm certainly not one of those people who want to squeeze every last drop of performance from their phones because I personally value battery life above performance, but I certainly don't want a sluggish phone either so I've tried to find a good balance
Alright guys thanks a lot for the suggestions I saw several of these myself and did the reading it was just hard to decipher it all considering I was new to the Fascinate
I've tried most of the jb ROMs for fascinate and settled for baked black bean v6 with devil kernel 1.9.5. Runs great but been having issues with MMS.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda app-developers app
Same here bbb6 with devil 1.9.5. But to fix my issues with MMS I just move to using "go SMS" with custom MMS setting and removed the stock app.
Side note: I do find "go SMS" to be horrible app along with the dev team. I mean yes the app works and yes I use it. But only because I have too. The is always nagging me to go try another theme, to get there launcher, or its sending me fake chat messages about how I should there go chat feature. I mean I have a list of things I dislike about it. But again it does get the job done....

So what doesn't work about your guys MMS,,, and are you Verizon or someone else
Mine has always worked fine,,, I'm page plus through Verizon

Power washed is a good 2.3 rom
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
I'm using revol wireless. And I can get MMS to work. But it's way slower sending through the stock app then when I send through go SMS. Plus go allows me to rotate my PICs before I send them.

Recommendations for ROM

I have been a member for a long time, but I never post anything so in that sense I'm new enough that I can't post this in the forum I wanted to, so I'm asking here. This is going to sound like a hateful rant and I'm sure someone is thinking, "If she knows that, then why is she hatefully ranting?" I am not ready to give up yet, so I'm explaining how I arrived at this point.
I have had my Gtab for about a year and a half. In that time I have rooted it and changed the ROM several times. I moved up to the 1.2 bootloader. In all this time I haven't really used it much because it just doesn't work right no matter which rom I try. Each rom will be ok for a few days, and then it starts getting glitchy. I got so fed up with it, I just parked it for several months and didn't touch it. Just recently I have installed the smoother bean rom. It is sort of ok but it doesn't 'just work'. I'm not a bigtime gamer, I like angry birds and sudoku. I surf the internet, watch videos, read books/magazines that are in epub format. When I study, I highlight text and make notes. When I sit down to study, I need it to work. No hangups or lockups or slow/frozen screens. When I get it out to use at the KH to follow along with the material I studied previously, I need it to just work. It has been to the point that I had to open the thing and physically unplug the battery to get it to behave. I was so excited to get this tablet and read all the information in these forums about it, so I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. The bloom is off the rose and I just want a tablet that does what I want it to do. I don't even care if it has jellybean or ICS or even Honeycomb at this point... I just want a tablet that works without having to fiddle around with the software.
And I don't install crazy amounts of apps. I think there are 7 or 8 that I use. Mainly Moon+ reader, Dolphin browser, Pinterest and Sudoku and Angry birds. I also like to sync my google stuff, calendar, contacts, email.
I'm am thinking I might put it back to stock and let it do all the OTA updates and see how it runs. But if I do that, I have to do the fix that makes the google market and stuff work. If I can do that and in the end have a working tablet that is decent and stable, I'll do it. Can anyone give me any feedback after having done this themselves? How was your tablet after? I remember how horrible it was out of the box. Is it better? MUCH MUCH Better? or just a little better.
Is there another rom that has been proven to be stable? I'm not worried if the camera or bluetooth doesn't work, I don't use those with the tablet. I don't think they are working right now, I'm not sure I haven't tried them since I installed the smoother bean rom. It can be any version of Android, I don't care.
I have given some thought to selling my gtab and getting another tablet, but I don't want to do that just yet. I know there has to be a solution, I just haven't found it yet.
Any feed back or suggestions would be most appreciated. The developers work hard on this tablet and have kept it going when Viewsonic themselves quit on it. I think that its really cool that there is such a devoted community of people who still love this tablet.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
My recomendation for "stable"
No expert here, but I have multiple g-tablets. For the "stable" ROM, I use Cyanogenmod cm-7.2.0-smb_a1002.zip
Hope that helps,
Jack
I have very similar experience as yours. Bought the gtab long ago, played for a while, then stashed away for several month, but pulled it out again while some brilliant devs actually put JB on it.
I will never ever go back to stock on gtab. Both Smoother Bean and G-Harmony Jellybean ROMs work reasonably well. In my opinion, they are already pushing the limit of the hardware.

Whereabouts can I download that ROM? I googled the file name and I found the cyanogen download page with the various releases but I wasn't sure which one to pick. I didn't see any that said for the gtab and to tell the truth, it was late and my eyes were sleepy! If you know of a place to download the ROM, I would appreciate it. I would like to give it a shot and see how it goes on my tablet. I'm also going to try out reinstalling JB. I didn't realize there was a update for smoOther bean. So, we'll see what happens.
For stability and full function of the Gtablet, you will probably want to use a Froyo rom. All other versions of Android required re-written drivers and/or kernel, as Viewsonic did not release an official version, and never released their source code. My favorite Froyo rom is:
TNT 6039
I used that rom with VTL Launcher for months, until TeamDRH released their JellyBean rom. You might need to make some minor modifications to see all the apps in the Play store, just read the thread.
I also have another Gtab that is running CyanogenMod. This became my 'stable' tablet. My parents, kids and nephews have used it for months with no complaints. If it gets a little slow, just wipe the cache and it speeds right back up again. Hardware acceleration does not work on Gingerbread, so major 3d games often have graphical glitches, but it is very stable. Here is a link:
CyanogenMod 7.2
If you can wait a few more days (hopefully!) TeamDRH will be releasing a new JB rom with their new kernel. I am currently running my own CM10 build with the new kernel and it is great. Very fast and stable. None of the released JB roms ran very well on my 'experimental' Gtab, so I built my own. After a ton of work, it is running even better than my 'stable' tablet, so I would be willing to bet that when they release their new rom, it will be the best available. Judging by the description of your usage, I would try CM 7.2.

Second that! :good:
When will TeamDRH be releasing a new JB rom?
Do you mind to share the new rom?
Thanks for the feedback ya'll. I did install the CM7 ROM and I also tried another one, I can't remember right now which one it was. I was tempted away by the G-Harmony Jellybean ([ROM-AOSP][BL-1.2]G-Harmony Jellybean 4.1.2 ODEXed (UPDATED 12/28)) , I installed the Overclocked version and I have to say it is doing very well. I did have some SOD's but I supercharged it and bumped up the CPU with No Frills CPU and since then it has had no trouble. Its been since Saturday that I installed this ROM and I have used it a bunch since then. I guess time will tell.
I do have a question tho about a problem I'm having but it's absutely not a deal breaker. I can't get google calendar to sync. I know other ROMS have had a package to install that fixed this but I wasn't sure if I could do that with this rom. I don't want to jack up my install. I don't absolutelly have to get the calendar working right now. I don't have reliable internet at home, so the only time I get online with the thing is when I wifi tether to my phone. Was just wondering if anyone knew how to resolve this issue. Again, I would post in the forum for this ROM but I'm not allowed yet.
Thanks!

When DRH is ready to release their new rom, it will likely be on the other forum first. Search Google for "gtablet roms 1.2/1.3" and that forum will be listed at the top of the page. Can't link you to it, else I may anger the XDA Moderators! Sounds like they are very close, just waiting on a new recovery.
As for my current build, just a basic CM10 build with a few minor customizations (my chosen boot animation, removed/replace system apps, changes to build.prop, etc.). I cannot share it because I am using the new (unreleased) kernel, and it's a pretty 'plain' version of CM10, but you can easily build it all yourself. Once you have your build environment setup, it is easy to rebuild an updated version any time you like. Only thing is, you are on your own when it comes to troubleshooting and support! If you are interested, I can link you to the info I used to figure out how to build the kernel and CM10, and the Git locations of the required source code. You would need a decent computer running 64bit Linux (I use Arch Linux, but Ubuntu is easier to setup), about 50GB hard drive space, and some free time. I just did it for fun, plus I'm impatient and wanted to try the new kernel, and none of the JB roms at the time would run well for me.
Best ROM for G-Tab
Hi all,
I bought my G-Tab whentheyfirst came out and have tried about 13 or 14 ROM's over the last (nearly) two years. In my opinion the best is SmoOtherBean by Nobe1976. Out of the box it is pretty good, I made a few minor adjustments after the install and it is running perfectly.
Changed dpi to160 (enabled Music / Movies in the Play Market)
Used ROM Toolbox to delete Music FX and DSP Manager (fixed problem where music would suddenly blare or change volume)
Set min/max CPU to 312 / 1200 (seems to wake up faster, no lags when browsing, etc)
Give Nob1976 a thumbs up if you like his ROM - stop the trolls who have chased off so many devs.....

This post. A million times this post. Smooth bean looks promising but I've been through so many roms with mediocre to poor tab perf.
[=torilyn73;37717272]I have been a member for a long time, but I never post anything so in that sense I'm new enough that I can't post this in the forum I wanted to, so I'm asking here.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions![/QUOTE]
Running SmoOther Bean but it starts up laggy?
Nice you gave me some more settings to try. Don't know that I want to change the DPI or have any issues with volume. Did change CPU settings. Anything else you'd recommend?
After it's run for about 10 minutes, it seems to work OK, only occasional lag. I'm setting background processes limit to none on every boot up. Anyone have a way to make that change stick between reboots?
Thanks!

Check out nobe1976 UnOfficial -BAKED ROM
For anyone who is "still looking" for something stable, check out noble1976 modified Blackbean (on this site).
I am very satisfied with this "beta" version that this maybe will be the last one I'll be using (its that stable for me).
A big THANK YOU to Noble1976 for his hard work on getting this version to work on the gtablet and his PAC rom and all the other help he has given to us. :good:
What's your experience like with Blackbean?
Are you seeing any startup or sleep lag like I'm getting with SmoOther Bean? I switched from Go Launcher EX to the default one (Apex?) and it does seem a bit better.
Would like something a bit more responsive for daily use though. What's involved to flash Blackbean over SmoOther Bean? Repartition, etc?
Thanks for the heads up on this - might give it a shot when I hear back from you! Sounds like a good weekend project!

BAKED Bean you will must NVFlash to the new 2013DRH setup. The boot.img in that ROM is the latest fosser2 3.1.10 kernel. The mounting is completely different other then the System. So updating the Tablet with the latest that is linked in the OP should be done to the T.

The only "lag" I'm seeing is after the opening screen animation the screen goes blank for 10sec or so. So, just wait till the regular default screen appears.
And be sure to do what Nobe1976 said. It went very easy for me changing over, for I already have used NVFlash 2013DRH version with
nobe1976 "PAC" ROM. Good Luck.

Battery life
Hi,
I am running cm-11-20141127-NIGHTLY, and noticed that the battery live is has got very short(before I was running a nigtly from may), WiFi is off and I lose 40 - 60 % over night.
The biggest consumers are mobile and standby. I had the same problem with another version from november. I replaced the boot.img with one from july, because the ones in the november niglies wanted boot.
Does anyone has ideas what could be wrong?
Thank you.

I fixed with actual Nighly.
3 yrs of development, still no bluetooth headset functionality for Galaxy Exhilarate
I find it incredibly frustrating that after all this time- cyanogenmod, pacman, etc. ROMs for the Samsung SGH-i577 Exhilarate are still so broken. just loaded up 4.4.4 today (cm-11-20141227-UNOFFICIAL-exhilarate) after waiting a year since the last batch of broken ROMs, crossing my fingers that someone actually made the phone OS operate- you know- LIKE A PHONE. nope- just like the ROMs from two years ago- the bluetooth SAYS my headset is connected- but placing a call gives me complete silence through the headset. that makes the phone completely useless to me. it's sad that such a seemingly important element of a telephone is not usable. in most states, it's required when driving, aside from just being handy around the house not to render an entire arm useless as it holds the phone to my head. no thanks. oh, just now- I pressed the 'wake' button... and the screen froze, and it rebooted. nice.
it's neat that these ROMs have lots of impressive elements like dozens of home-screen and status-bar/drawer/button options, and an 'electron beam' lock screen animation... but HOW ABOUT ALLOWING THE PHONE TO TRANSMIT SOUND TO MY HEADSET?
I have bought probably 8 or 10 of these phones for friends- dual-core CPUs, dual cameras, GPS, compact 4" screens- all the hardware features I want- but I'm forced to use either stock OEM 4.0.4 ROM (which won't let me download MMS images w/a Straight Talk SIM card, since it's missing the necessary choices for "APN Type") or a buggy 4.1.2 (Slim-3.1.0-i577-20130426-1514-UNOFFICIAL) ROM with a whole host of broken functions. (MMS image rotate bug, for example. oh, and you can't always end the call by pressing the 'end call' button on a headset, and the alarms don't always go off, and it randomly reboots- for fun.). some choice.
ya know what this has caused? about half my friends got tired of waiting for me to find them a reliable, fully functional ROM, and bought iPhones. I'm about to do the same. how sad that all this development work has served only to drive people away from the Android platform, as opposed to retain them.
I'd say "it's been fun" but it hasn't. for all who tried: thanks. for all who said in forums "yes, this is a great ROM, it works great, have fun"... and the bluetooth headset link is still broken- come on.
sorry. just very frustrated with this.

Nightlies are somewhat working, there is a fix in this thread that needs to be used every time you flash a new nightly.

okay, more issues with custom roms on Galaxy Exhilarates: ridiculous (and unpredictable) battery drain. I loaded SlimBean 4.1.2 onto a phone (again), and the next morning, starting with a full battery- 3 hours 22 minutes later, I was down to 9 percent.
this is with about 10 minutes of phone calls, 15 text-messages, and a few web-pages checked. however- the same OS installed on the same model of phone can also give pretty decent life... you just never know which it's going to be.

Good Sense Based ROM?

Hello All,
I was wondering if any of you have recommendations on a Sense Based ROM for the EVO LTE? I'm holding out for the upcoming M10 and I'm currently user a ROM based off the last 4.3 update leaked from HTC, however I've noticed that many of the apps I regularly use are requiring more recent Android OS. I have tried Cyanogenmod based ROMS in the past but I prefer Sense and I haven't seen too many fully working roms based off it. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I always liked Viper, but you aren't going to find anything beyond 4.3 outside of AOSP though. Since there was never any official KitKat for this phone there's nothing to build off of. There may have been some attempt at a port that i've forgotten about but i doubt it. i was also a fan of sense to some extent, but i jumped to CM a long time ago to stay current and i think i'd have a hard time going back at this point.
actually come to think of it, for a little while there when there were some bugs to CM that i couldn't get past, i'd actually loaded up a stock/rooted 4.3 and slapped xposed overtop of it to get (almost) all the features i'd come to live by in CM.
[edit]
I take that back, i completely forgot about this fella. I think i'd tried it out early in development and maybe couldn't get it to flash/boot on my device, but it sounds like this release is working.
