TB does not backup pictures is why .
It is used to backup APPS .

set your camera settings to save pictures in your EXTERNAL SD card. so you won't lose any of them.
it won't backup/restore the ff:
-pictures
-contacts (if saved from phone)

try clockworkmod from next time to backup your pictures etc.....titanium backup is for apps!!!

[Q] WhatsApp restore question

Hi there,
I was wondering if it is possible to restore a previous backup so my chats will come back again. I had some important messages backed up and I would like to see them again.
I have placed the backup files in the whatsapp backup and database folder and when I reinstalled whatsapp it had asked me to restore using an old backup and so I did click ok but the chats never appeared.
I would be very greatful if you could help me restore them.
Thank you.

I got the same issues with old chats not restoring after installing whatsapp. I created a backup before and can see this file in the database folder. Tried moving to the backup folder but makes no difference.
Anyone got a fix?
When you reinstall whatsapp and the backup folder is in the same place on the SD card as when you backed up... I think whatsapp is supposed to ask you if you wanna restore when you go through the whole installation process. I normally just titanium backup just to be safe, but the whatsapp method should work with whatsapp.

[Q] Saving apps to Sd2/ext-sd ... Backup Q

I recently got App2sd and noticed it doesn't save them to the ext-sd/sdcard2 just to sdcard ... is there a way to do this or does everyone just use Titanium Back Up pretty much
edit: I also hear that it isn't good to use TBU restore when flashing a new rom ... can a dev enlighten me if you have some time or someone who knows about this.
Thanks!
DOUBLE EDIT:
What do you use to backup/restore YOUR vigor?
I use titanium backup. I back up all apps and use it to restore apps only first, then only restore data on key apps like list mgr pro, acar, and my games. The main concern with restoring backups is to not do a batch backup and to never restore data on a system app, because the code can change from build to build.
what do y'all use to backup pictures and some messages.. or do you just manually move them to ext-sd with a root explorer or similar thing...
sorry trying to figure out the best way to do all this back up stuff
As far as messages I have SMS Backup + because it does a backup to your gmail account, then I just dump my pictures into "box" which has a special going on for 50 gigs of cloud storage for life just for signing up (only until 03/26/12).

I could be wrong but i believe there used to be a a2sd script you could flash from recovery to move dalvik to the sd card partition. Has that been abandoned?

Contacts Recovery after Rooting

Hi all, I was on an unrooted 2.3.3 standard rom, I then rooted, made a full backup and an apps backup using titanium. I then flashed to Ressurection Remix 1.8.1 and noticed that my contacts did not come back. I thought with a full backup and apps backup that the contacts would be backed up, but I am not sure If I have now lost them or what I can do to get them recovered, can anyone help ?
If I recovered my full backup, would that have my contacts in it ?
If you had signed in using Google account, sign in again and you're contacts will be available.... Unless you set the option specific to phone only

One its wrong forum rules say Q&A for questions .
TB backs up your apps only .
Nandroid backup is full image of rom .
Kies backup of contacts or Google synced or restore from Sim card .

It's bordering on a question and a request for assistance. I'm sure a moderator will move it if its in the wrong place.
TB makes a backup of apps, but I have noticed (after the event) that it will also backup contacts if you manually select it to. Why this isnt turned on by default is baffling.
The Nandroid backup is not a backup then, its a rom backup. That was my mistake for thinking it was a backup of the phone.
I dont use Kies, or google or store contacts on sim. I take it I have lost my contacts completely now then and no way of getting them back ?
Would a data recovery program be able to read the phones internal memory as a drive ? You would think there is something it could recover ?
The file recovery program RECUVA free ware is worth a try or you could open a Nandroid backup .
Nandroid is an image of the phone rom in full including contacts .

thanks thats encouraging and good to know, I'll have a play around with it tonight when I get in from work.
RECUVA wouldnt see the phone memory. Nandroid backup let me look at the backup that was made, I saw the contacts.apk but even after I saved it to a location (I did this several times) I went to the location and it didnt show. I even tried to install but it says there was a contacts list there and wouldnt let me overwrite.
I did a full recovery and now all my contacts are back. I will make several backups of these hehe. I don;t want that to happen again.
Thanks for the help.

You can use Titanium Backup to restore your contacts. You have to backup everything first (user applications and system data), flash your new ROM, reinstall TB.
At this point, you can restore your contacts: just open TB and search the backup list for something like "[Contacts....]......" with green title. Restore it (data only), reboot and you should see your contacts.
All the "[something]" items in green are settings and data. Contacts, wireless networks, bookmarks, and so on.
I use this procedure for every new ROM.
Only problems found: restoring SMS/MMS from GB to ICS doesn't work (for me, at least).
Good Luck
You can recover lost contacts from Samsung Galaxy after rooting. To do this, connect your Galaxy phone to your laptop and use a Samsung Contact Recovery program to be able to view the deleted files in the task window. After this, click on the ones that you want to recover.

How to backup contacts and apps before flashing a rom?

So i just installed Cyanogenmod 10, and all my contacts and apps have been wiped, fortunately i backed up before flashing the rom, what's the best to restore my contacts and apps after i flash cyanogen?
Well a nandroid will recover eveything to previous state. To backup particular items like contacts and apps then youll need titanium backup or Mybackup pro which will save these for you and can be restored individually to a new rom also root is recommended to backup the most data.
Also contacts can be backed up with out root using the export/import option on the contacts menu screen it will create a file that can be imported to another rom using the same menu just make sure once u create the file its NOT on the internal sd when u do wipes Same goes for the mybackup pro or TB backups make sure to either move them from the internal b4 a wipe and put them back after or link those apps to backup to your external sd card which u can setup within the backup app u choose.

Thanks for answering, i have a question though, i backed up from the recovery screen, would i be able to return to before i flashed the rom?
Use your contacts app to export a vcard and put it into your extSD location. Then use Titanium Backup to do a backup of all your apps (again to the extSD)
If you want to do that for your messages, call logs, and wifi spots. Use Titanium Backup to "Export XML" you will be able to export all three things that I just mentioned.
when you flash the new rom, you just have to reverse the process.
(import vcard, import xml, restore apps and data)
EDIT: Forgot to answer your other question. what you can do is to make a backup of your new rom (nandroid), restore the older one, do all the things i mentioned earlier, restore the new rom, then finally import them all back in.

Indeed, just click on 'Back up' to back up your apps and their data, but only on your own user apps, never system apps. After flashing, install TB from the Play Store and click 'Restore'.

There is no need to backup your contacts, they are automatically backed up by your google account. As soon as you sign in on your new rom it will sync your contacts for you.
If you want to backup your apps you should just use the batch icon in top right and then choose the section for backup of user apps and it will backup your apps and appdata.
On your new simply re-install TB and then use restore option. If it doesnt find your backup location/show backups in batch you will need to go to preferences and choose backup folder location again.
To do all this silently (not click install on each app) you will need to be rooted and have pro version.
PS. This is not a galaxy s2 topic. These types of topics belong in the general/android section as its not device specific.

- import/export trough app (.vcf vcard)
- through tb..backup&restore Contacts data then reboot

dowload the apk from authors website to your external sdcard
.u could do.
dowload titanium-backup-apk to your phone..
sync your contacts with google..batch-backup all inc sys apps+data..
make a cwm-backup..copy cwm & titanium backup folders to a safe place..
