[Q] T-Mobile UK: HD Voice (AMR-WB) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got a text from T-Mobile UK telling me that I could now use HD Voice as long as I had a 3G signal and was talking to someone else with an HD Voice enabled phone.
However, as far as I can see, the Galaxy S2 doesn't have AMR-WB enabled by default, so I don't know why they're telling me that I can use it. I went to the special menu and saw that AMR-WB was "OFF" but there's no way to turn it on. I'm using the normal T-Mobile ROM so I'd have thought they would've enabled AMR-WB on their own ROM if they're advertising AMR-WB??
Is there any other way to turn on AMR-WB for HD Voice?

Does SGS2 support HD voice?

like the tittle says, does our beloved galaxy 2 support HD voice? I don't find any info about it, but i believe i saw it mentioned in an early thread about someone who had the phone very early. I don't seem to find it anymore...
This technology is supported by my network Mobistar in Belgium, that's why i was wondering...so...Does anybody know?
A good question.
I just had an email from my network provider in the UK, Orange, and they listed 6 phones which do have it. The Samsung Omnia was listed, but not the Galaxy S2 (a newer, more tech-heavy) phone.
I don't believe it does have HD Voice technology in it but would be happy to be proved wrong.

Not able to try if it works though yet
It should. In the SGS2 specs you can find that it has support for WB-AMR audio codec, which should be the HD Voice codec. Try *#*#197328640#*#* from the phone dial, then select 5-Audio then 7-WB-AMR, and turn it on. Your operator and the phone on the other end of the line have to support it, obviously.

Video Call?

Hi everyone!
I'm new to this phone so I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but what is the "Video Call" option in the Contacts?
I've successfully had video chats through Google Talk (2.3.4) but when I try to call someone with a Nexus S using the Video Call option in their contacts, it makes a voice call. This friend's Google Talk/Gmail address are added to their contact in my phone.
So...what is this Video Call option supposed to do? It's not only for video calls between Galaxy S II's, is it??
If it matters I'm in the US, with the phone on AT&T's network.
Video call is supposed to make a 'video call' to any device that supports it, I've done it successfully with a different phone, haven't tried with my sgs2 yet, it's hard to find people that have front cameras and support video calls (eg. not iPhones, even though they have a front camera), also it's usually pretty expensive.
AT&T might have it disabled if it didn't work for you.

[Q] 3G Video calls

How to make video calls via 3G? Standard video call function to another 3g phone. No Skype, etc.

just use gtalk, tango or skype. lots of options. all are great.
Not sure what you mean by "standard video call" but without an app you wont get far. Tango, Skype, Yahoo, and Gtalk. They all work over 3G but Sprint's 3G is slower than a constipated turd so its better over wifi.

Video Call service is available from any operator of 3G mobile networks (not in the U.S. in my opinion). In addition to the button "call" for 3G phones should be a button "call with video." All Win Mobile devices with a front camera, symbian nokia phones and other 3G phones with front camera has support for video calls. Please watch these videos:

On Samsung Galaxy S youtube.com/watch?v=2lbpCJE1lcY

That's all pointless in the end. We don't all have the exact same phones. That's why Skype or other popular ones are best. Giving us more options. For every user on all devices.

Your own words I can say that Skype is pointless in the end. Because not all of my friends run Skype for the day. But 3g video call is a real replacement of traditional voice calls. If the subscriber does not support video call, then video call switches to traditional voice mode. Therefore, 3G video calls and video calls via Skype is a completely different services. sorry for my english

[Q] Gtalk VOIP bridge thing?

I'm currently using groove ip lite to make a few calls a year to the US from canada. My issue is that it it only uses the G.711 codec, so I'm screwed if my 3g is spotty or my wifi is congested.
What I'm looking for is a relatively easy way to use the speex codec or another codec that copes with jitter and scales well with either gtalk or something else free/cheap for these canada <-> US calls.
Thank you for your time.

If you want to make calls through Google Voice (to phone numbers) the issue you'll run into is Google Voice only supports the G711 codec. Anything that connects directly to Google Voice will only support G711. If there's another server involved then between the app and that server can have a different codec, such as if you used a SIP service. But at that point the SIP server would have to translate between codecs to G711 since all traffic to Google would be G711.
If you just want Google Talk calls you can use the Google Talk app. But that can't call phone numbers.
I need to call phone numbers, what are my options?

[Q] Video call possibility in android

Hi guys.
I am searching for many days about this, but still no proper information.
(Old sony ercisson and nokia mobile had video calling feature.)
Why there is no default video call app in android?
(Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_in_Android )
Why there is no App in market or any module for Xposed framework to enable video calls in droids.
Where some manufacturers have video called function enabled and Korean mobiles (LG, Samsung) has video call function but that doesn’t seem to work in Europe, Asia or America, it works only in korea.
Now I have few queries.
1--> is it possible to make video call from any android via any kind of customization with rooting, installing apps or with xposed framework etc.
2 -- regardless of unable to make video call, can droids receive video calls?
3-- is it possible to make video calls with Korean android mobiles, outside Korea? Or we can say, is it possible to fix this error, “when global roaming, video call not supported”. Or it is possible to enable video call when roaming.
Fronts cams are 50% useless without native video calls in androids, why nobody is trying to add video call feature in android?
