Also, if you've upgraded to ICS, the 1.93.0002 SHP Hboot is required to SuperCID!
Im trying to find out how to get this HBOOT installed.
All the software I found says I need a HBOOT.img file. I found some HBOOT files on JuopunutBear site but they dont have any img files only

How am I supposed to downgrade?

Yep just rename it. However, make SURE it's the right Hboot.
Other than that, just rename it to hboot.img and you should be golden.
Out of curiosity, what HBOOT are you currently on?

When you mean the right one you mean GB or ICS right? You may find this funny but im getting the phone in about 1hr.
Whenever I get a new android phone I like to research all the procedures and possible issues and download all the needed files prior to getting it.
That way im not stuck with a bricked phone trying to figure stuff out afterwards

You should worry about S-OFF first before you actually worry about supercid. Also, if you do S-OFF and you choose to install the j-bear modified hboot, it installs the .2222 hboot so you really don't need to flash an hboot, because it does that already. But still, do check before you actually attempt supercid

[Q] After S-OFF

So now that I have s-off through the wire method, what now?
I went and read the 5 pages in the development but everything is so unclear. After obtaining s-off i dont want to flash the wrong kernal or do something in the wrong order and brick my phone.
I want the latest ICS that has been leaked for the Amaze, and the latest sense which I think is 3.6, I read the threads relating to the two, but it doesnt tell you what other things need to be done (pre reqs) before following their respective instructions. Thanks to anyone who replies.
I have a telus htc amaze, unlocked bootloader via htcdev.com, s-off, and I have the hboot from juonoputbears s-off method (Anyone want to tell me exactly what this hboot is and how it is different from other hboots in the dev thread?), Is my htc a ruby?

ok HTC amaze = Ruby and you are almost there. all you need to do now is super cid your phone and flash the ICS and start using FACE UNLOCK .
I will help you out but there are answers to all your questions already. Since you are on telus, you will have to supercid your device. The device name for the amaze is ruby. You have most of the prerequisite elements in place.. Check out this part of the ics thread...

Remember to supercid first, and you will need the eng hboot to flash the file.

xndabox, is that the most useful hboot out right now or is it just more useful for the stuff that I am about to try? Ray, would it be better that I use the hboot that xnd posted?
Also, Do I have to do anything with something called "recovery" or was that already accomplished when i unlocked the bootloader/ s-offe'd my device/ hbooted the whatever? I used to have an atrix and there was something called clockwork mod recovery or something that allowed us to get into a menu after boot if needed, but for the amaze there is already a menu there. Thanks and a +1 to all the helpful posts you guys had after I get a clear image of what to do after supercid.
Sorry I went to bed. But I recommend this hboot to future proof for anything that can come up later.. But I did find this for you. ..

Thanks, I found that info as it came up when I used the search function. Does the hboot you referenced have anything to do with this new bit of information I found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618168&highlight=eng+hboot
This is what I have done so far, please tell me if anything done was wrong/counterproductive to the goals i am trying to achieve in accordance to my opening post:
I supercid'd my phone
I installed a custom recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587844&highlight=custom+recovery
Now I think I need some sort of eng hboot, but I don't know if the eng boot you provided is appropriate, can u confirm after reading the link I sent you, Also where would I flash the eng hboot, will it be a zip file that will be installed under the recovery I downloaded? Thanks for your quick replies.
Download the hboot from the telus how-to.. Then rename it to what he says ph85img.... You can flash that through the bootloader.. Which recovery did you use? It says to back up your apn address first though.

Either hboot will work though, both account for the same thing.
Over 10000!!! You bet I am.
Thanks for the help! my last question pertains to the instructions for downloading ICS recoveries:
1) Be Locked with S-Off using JuopunutBear's S-Off method.
2) Flash the ENG Hboot 1.90.2005
3) With S-off and the ENG Hboot, rename the RUU to PH85IMG.zip and put on root of external SD card
4) Boot into bootloader and apply the update
5) Once updated, reflash the ENG Hboot again
6) Flash the CWM 5.5.0.4 recovery in fastboot (fastboot flash recovery *****.img)
7) Flash the Superuser package in recovery to gain root
For step 6 and 7, once I have root access, how do I completly delete/remove CWM 5.5.04, so that I can install a different recovery instead and still have root?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587844&highlight=custom+recovery
Thanks for all your help.
You can sub cwm with twerp from the amaze all in one tool. But when you are rooted, you can install any recovery software. Any rom for the amaze.. Any kernel for the amaze. Benefit of root, s-off, and eng hboot.
You are done! Did ics boot already?
4ext app will override whatever recovery software you have installed.

ICS Leak 3.14 Revert to GB Stock?

Hey guys i'm s-off on 3.14 ICS leak. I have to return my phone for replacement device and i have searched everywhere and can't seem to figure it out. the RUU exe has never worked for me and idk what that really is.
any help is appreciated!
Get the 2.01.605.11 .zip from here
http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/Rezound_Developers/wildstang83/RUU/GB/
Rename it to ph98IMG and place it on root of sd card. It would function the same as the .exe but all steps would be done on the phone itself.

i tried that but then it said "parsing ph98img" and then it just reboots back to my ICS leak
let me re-download
Dunno why the .exe version isn't working for you, what problem? Just make sure the download itself is good, drivers are good (Google and download HTC Sync) and USB debugging is turned on in the phone's settings, should be fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19756694
Grab the 2.01.605.11 RUU .zip version, rename to PH98IMG.zip, slap it on the SD card and go to the bootloader if nothing else. Then follow that S-On guide listed in the same thread. Make sure to factory reset before shipping off.
Edit: just saw previous posts, check md5 of your downloads, does sound like you're getting a bad connection to get all these errors.

Exactly.
You've to be s-off to be able to downgrade from a firmware. Downgrading radios could well brick your phone without s-off.

You have to unlock the bootloader to re run the ruu if I remember correctly. That will take you back to stock gb with s-off and lock.

I've been pretty braindead and stressed out lately, feel I've harmed more than helped on a few troubleshoots.
But I assure you 100% the bootloader will not read "locked" that way; RUUs do not affect the Locked/Relocked/Unlocked flag.
Once Unlocked, HTC Dev only toggles that message and Relocked.
To get from Unlocked after S-off to simply Locked means setting up stock, do S-on, and running through S-off procedure again.

Running the RUU will not downgrade. If it did why would they have had to make all of the complex steps to downgrade from 1.50.
Is there a way to make the RUU see the phone as a lower h-boot version without root access by tweaking the RUU exe. just a thought.

Like a previous poster responded, get s-off using the wire trick. It only takes five minutes once you setup. People who have done it wish they would have done it sooner.
Look the bottom line is if you want to go back to H-boot 1.40 you need to S-off.
Countless people in this thread have said that and you refuse to accept the fact your stuck on H-boot 1.58 until you S-off.

Download the 1.4 hboot, rename the file PG86IMG.zip (case sensitive) and place it on the root of your sd card. Make sure that the ROM you are running will boot with the 1.4 hboot first. If not, boot to recovery and flash one (the reason I suggest this is if you have an hboot 1.58 ROM on there and flash the 1.4 hboot, you'll get bootloops). Then, boot to bootloader and have it "update" to 1.4. Reboot and remove the file from the root of your sd card.

Bricking the phone with S ON will cause it to enter emmc mode in which an Hboot can be flashed.
But he should change the main version to the lower one before attempting to brick it.
After flashing the hboot, device will have been unbricked, but RUU still needs to be flashed.
It is possible, but whether there is a guide for this or not, I don't know; nor do I know if it is practically possible either.

You need to download the PJ75IMG file for the hboot 1.12 and save it to the root of your sd card and reboot into the bootloader. It will scan your sd card and ask you if you want to install the update follow the on screen instructions wait and your phone should reboot to bootloader and display the the updated hboot you flashed in bootloader. Then your good to go.

I'm not sure how you can be s-off and have h-boot 1.15 there are alot of people that would know how you did it but to flash the lazypanda hboot you have to flash it in the bootloader not recovery Make sure you delete the PJ75IMG file from your sd card after flashing
It's probably not a good idea trying to downgrade hboot /firmware even if you are s-off.

This is the best advice you can get.
I actually didn't take an OTA update, I manually flashed the hboot and radio. I'm a noob to the whole Android scene coming from WebOS, so I didn't realize how much of a headache hboot updates would cause. Lesson learned!
I tried flashing through bootloader and it didn't work, but that may be because of my zip. I downloaded it straight from LazyPanda site. Guess the next thing is to download the whole package of the original official zip and strip out everything except for hboot.
All right, so I must be missing something. I have PJ75IMG.zip with nothing but hboot in there and it's not flashing. What else should I be including? Thanks!

Ruu Version

So I have the virgin mobile 3d and I am rooted with s-on. I've been trying to get it off tho. So I was following the quick and dirty thread. And so I relocked the boot loader and then I started up the RUU like the guide. And about halfway through the installation it gave me boot loader version error 140. So I looked it up and I think it means that I was trying to downgrade. And that's why it didn't work. I was supposedly going from 1.14 down to 1.13. These are the version The ruu gave. I'm not sure what the numbers were about but can someone help? That ruu was supposed to be the most updated one. And i have been searching like crazy. Any help would be appreciated. I understand these things, so don't be afraid to talk techy to me lmfao. Thanks

See the note for S-ON users in this post, which is also linked in the informational posts after Step3 of the guide. The reason you are having this problem is because you have already installed the OTA, which has a higher main version (mainver) than the VM RUU.

So it worked!! I finally got s-off!!! Now one last thing, how do i go about downgrading the hboot. I plan on going SlimBean. I tried flashing the sprint 1.5 hboot but it failed. The error said that the custom ID failed. . Is there any way to downgrade?

That's in this post, which is also linked after Step3 of the guide.

I have tried this. And a side note* when I boot into the boot loader it doesn't look for PG86IMG.zip it looks for PG86DIAG.zip. its really weird. Anyone know what this is? I tried renaming it to that but it doesn't do anything. It just reboots the boot loader. I have also tried flashing it through fastboot

The PG86DIAG.zip file is an advanced diagnostic that is very tightly controlled by HTC, but the bootloader always looks for it anyway.
The filename for the zip doesn't matter when you use the fastboot flashing method. Can you paste the messages you are getting here starting with the "fastboot erase cache" command? Make sure you delete the PG86IMG.zip file from the root of the SD card before trying the fastboot method.

OK sweet that it good to know. I tried both methods and it didn't work. But when I used the fast boot method I got a custom I'd check failed error. I'm not by the phone right now. But I remember the error. That's the only one I got. When I tried downgrading from 1.57jboot to 1.5

If you are on hboot 1.57 then you probably have the Evo V 4G which means you need to use the Virgin Mobile version of the RUU.

So you're saying I should extract the PG86IMG.zip from an older VM ruu? And then place in the root of my sdcard? That would give me the stock boot loader :-/. I already got s-off with jbear hboot 1.7
I'm trying to dual boot eventually so I want to be on hboot 1.5
Edit: one thing I haven't tried is leaving it named PG86IMG.zip and placing it on the SD card. But using 1.5 is that safe to try?. I'm thinking it will work because it is a sprint phone. It has sprint branding. It is just on VM. Let me know what you think

Follow the instructions in this post since you are S-OFF already. I recommend the JBear 1.50.5050 instead on the 1.50 hboot since that doesn't need to be unlocked to run extended fastboot commands.
