^Noob.
Hey I have seen in different places people backing up different things in Twrp. Should you backup android secure? What is this file? Its pretty big. Also do you hit the compress file button on the bottom?

Exactly. My android_secure file is 600mb. If its not needed then I surely don't want to loose that much space on my sd card. Hopefully someone can explain what this file is to justify their answer if to/not backup.

I'd still use Titanium Backup... I don't know if it's changed, but when they originally introduced it, it was used to install the encrypted (mostly the paid ones) apps from the Market

If you want your apps to work properly, back it up and restore it no matter how small or large it is.

yes when you do a nandroid backup, and then restore it. as they said above it holds some data for the apps, especially if you did one of those "move2sd" things. If i dont back it up and restore it, the app will either not be installed, or not open properly

Okay so I'm obviously new.. I flash many roms but it is so annoying that I always have to back up my apps with astro file manager but is there an easier was of backing up all my apps and everything else on the previous ROM so i don't have to through that extra crap to get everything perfect like my previous ROM.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Assuming you are rooted since you are flashing that many ROMs, don't most people use Titanium Backup? Has a batch mode to back up all system data and user apps... then I restore the ones I want.

Agreed. Titanium Backup can be downloaded for free from the Market and can be used to back up your apps to your SD card for later restoration.
+3 on Titanium Backup. Well worth the six bucks or so that it costs. Itll restore market links and apps alike. Theyve even got an auto restore feature. The free version is nice, but nothing beats the 0 click restore of the pro version.
Ti doesn't install data correctly on sense 3.0 roms. Just food for thought.

Your lucky as many others have had issues restoring data (not system data, just app data) including me. Yes, I was on the latest release.
EDIT...
I use (my backup pro) now and it's been flawless for restoring apps and app data.

Apps to use with root.

I just acquired s-off and all the good stuff. Now what apps are essential or at least interesting to have with root? I had a couple for my Evo 4G but recollection of any of them is long gone. Except for Shoot Me.
Enlighten me fellow members. Thanks in advance.

Oh, and titanium backup.

I have to throw in support for my app Flash Image GUI as it allows the flashing of kernels and recoveries from android w/o rebooting to recovery mode.
I consider it essential, but that might be a biased opinion!
Glad you're rooted!

Question on Titanium Backup. I had purchased a key for the full version when I had the 4G but now it doesn't show as purchased. Anyone know why that might be?
As far as doing an entire phone back up, what are recommended steps before jumping into a rom?
Thanks again for refreshing my mind.

[Q] Copy data from rooted phone to unrooted

Hi, I have gotten a new phone from work, the Galaxy S3 4G (í9305).
Now I want to transfer data (from games and so) from my old rooted HTC Desire to the new unrooted phone. And I don't want the new to be rooted afterwards. Can this be done and how do I then do it?
As far as I know it can't be done. Why not root use TiB and unroot?

Cause it is not my phone, it's my companys and there is a year long warranty, which I don't what to break. So I will only root the new phone, if I can get it back to square one, so if anything should happen to it, they can't blame it on the rooting, and can't see that it has been rooted. I don't know, if that is possibly. But if it is and I can get a guide, I would take a look at it.
Further posts, should be in the new question, please.
Have you checked this out? May be useful.

Well mostly games as many off my business apps, has someway to either send it over the web or re-download the progress.
But these is the apps I (and my son) would like to get an backup off, which I can restore on the new phone: Angry Birds, Beautiful Widgets, Kingdom Royale, Disney Pirates, Timeriffic, TowerDefence.

Sdcard/android/data, then look for the particular game data. I don't think you need root access to copy and paste saves there.

Nope, that didn't do the trick
then the only option would be to root it
Damn, I'm not found of using Googles cloud backup. You never know, what they'll do with the data, but if I use it, could I then restore eg. my games progress, on both a rooted and unrooted phone in the future?

82 system files/bloat safely frozen with titanium Pick n choose !

I have compiled 82 system apps that I have frozen via titanium backup pro, I have risked a lot with my 600$ device and guinea pigged myself as a test subject ,for the greater cause .Of course I do have plenty nandroid backups if anything were to have gone wrong .As of now there are no know issues, force closes, etc....force closes are common when u freeze the wrong app, just for future reference !Also some force closes render the phone helpless unless you do a battery pull..in which the HTC one dorsnt have a battery to pull.
So as far as my compiled list is concerned it Is safe for everyone to use.
Everything works as should. You can choose to safely freeze whichever of the 82 apps/apks you prefer to. Feel free to add any apps you have also tested to be safe to freeze .
This greatly helps reduce lag , free up ram and and may even provide better battery life ,due to android os that sometimes has many system apps... that we don't know what they do exactly but many greatly affect our battery life because they unnecessarily run in the background and drain batter and the majority of them we never use .
This is the list freeze as many or as little as you desire to.
Every one check marked indicates it's safe to freeze .
NOTE: DO NOT DELETE/REMOVE ANY OF THESE APPS IN TITANIUM BACKUP UNLESS YOU POSITIVELY HAVE A NANDROID BACKUP IN cwm or twrp RECOVERY.I AM ONLY PROVIDING INFO ON "FREEZING APPS" "NOT DELETING".
I WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OR FEEL OBLIGATED TOO...FOR THE LACK OF FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS POSTED .
Please leave feedback with your observations towards any improvements or issues if any that you may experience.

Well, this list is very subjective. Alot of what you froze alot of people actually use. Like street view...document viewer...the remote app...among others. From looking at what you diabled it seems all you want to do is make calls and text lol.
THIS IS ABOUT WHAT CAN BE FROZEN WITHOUT ANY SYSTEM ISSUES OR FORCE CLOSES .
If you want to unappreciated that's fine too.
Obviously I have takin the freezing to an extreme,it's called freezing as many apps as possible that DONT AFFECT SYSTEM FUNCTION IN A NEGATIVE MANOR.There are many I'm sure who don't use these apps and would find It fine to do so ....and only care about speeding up there device ...I have done no wrong ..infact if anything I've answered possible questions in the future on if them apps can be frozen ....maybe there are people who would want the most possible options .So it is up to whomever to pick and choose what they want to freeze from the list. All I have done was made It clear that if they want to take it to the extreme ,all these system apps and apks are safe to freeze with no issues .

My Amaze likes to randomly forget that it has an /sdcard partition. I end up having to go into 4EXT and use the "Check Partition Alignment" under the Tools menu as well as a Filesystem check. Occasionally it'll corrupt the data of a few random applications too. I'm on the newest Android Revolution with FauxKernel.
