I have seen this reported by people living near borders, where the phone locks onto cell tower in neighbouring country, but other than that I'm not really sure

does anyone live in houston? I have not been able to get a data signal for about 4 to 5hours now and was wondering if it was my phone or an outage problem. I restarted my phone and pulled the battery but no data still. just asking to make sure it's not my phone.
running nero v3
Maybe you have it disable? Check under wireless and network, then mobile networks.

I went to check in the settings and the option 'use packet data' was not checked. I checked it and now I got my data back.
Hey guys, (Did extensive search before posting this)
Whenever I get a MMS the messages show a download button but will not download. I have tried turning wifi on and off, turning mobile data on and off, rebooting, using stock app and Go SMS and nothing is working. I looked in APN settings but do not know if they are right or not.
The issue just started recently, I have had the phone about a week and they seemed to work at first.
Please help,
This is driving me crazy and is frankly unacceptable in 2012. I saw some threads about old Galaxys having this issue.
You have to be on mobile data without wifi for them to download.

Thanks for the reply, but I have tried turning wi fi off, which in turn reverts to mobile data and still no success. Could it be that I also use a micro cell? My carrier service is literally the worst possible at my house without the micro cell. This is quite unfortunate if so.
I think wifi has to be off when it is initially coming through and yes, a micro cell will do it. Is it a voice micro cell or data?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Its a voice micro cell, but it also transmits a 3G signal. Not sure of the speed since I always use wi fi.
This is boggling my mind. Are you telling me that it is not possible to recieve a freaking MMS message created in 1982 (sarcastic) on a 2012 LTE device if I am in a wifi network. WTH. That is crazy to me.
So are these images gone or do I need to turn off wifi and turn off the micro cell to download?
Thanks for your help btw.
So I disconnected wifi and disconnected my microcell and clicked download on Go SMS and nothing, error message. Pulled up the stock SMS app and clicked download and after a half minute or so the picture appears. The picture then also shows in Go SMS.
I guess the solution is no MMS while at home which is a bit frustrating coming from another device/platform where this problem would not occur.
Thanks again.
I have the international GS3 on AT&T. My phone automatically downloads MMS if only mobile data is on or both wifi & mobile data are on. I believe it is your microcell causing your disruption OP.
Sorry, my international S3 also only downloads MMS if only mobile data is on.. I have yet to see it auto download when Wi-Fi was on. I would say it could be the microcell in this case though.

Weird. I am on T-Mobile though and my galaxy nexus was the same way.

It isn't just you. I had the same issue with my GSII. It would randomly appear and disappear. Have the person resend it.

Not true. I am on WiFi 90% of the time and I still get MMS
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
When mms comes in the WiFi should temporarily shut off and the radio picks up 3 or 4g in order to download it. U honestly won't notice any seperation. If u honestly can't receive them, check your apn settings

You are getting mms when you are away from your home/microcell, correct?
hmm, i just noticed that mine has been doing this lately too. MMS won't download unless I turn off wi-fi. I'm on t-mobile
Ok, today I was at my friends house and I checked my phone and I noticed that I was on 1x as a signal. I was wondering if anybody had that problem?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
It just means that there is currently no 3G data connection at your location. It's location specific or perhaps Sprint is servicing a tower close to your friends house. Nothing you can do about it, unfortunately.

Hey,
Since yesterday my phone is always on roaming, i have two questions:
1. What does roaming mean?
2. How to disable it?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Settings>more>mobile networks>data roaming>untick
All I know is that I keep it on and only incur charges if I use it outside my country(which I won't).

But what does roaming exactly mean? It changed just yesterday till now.

Roaming means you are outside of your home network aka abroad.

What are you saying about it.Was it off and came on?.What do you mean "it changed"?.

If you are talking about the data roaming option in settings that comes only to effect if you are abroad. It's basically telling your phone whether it's allowed to use data traffic while outside of your home network.

I'm not abroad, it changed by itself and I have "R" letter above the signal, Do you mean that now I'm not connected to my network? Why would something like that happen suddenly? And how to change it back?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
No idea how it could happen if you are in your home country. You may try to contact your operator to check what they see in their systems.
Odoslané z GT-I9100 cez Tapatalk 2
Are you on the three network? If so you have dropped off 3 network and gone on the the orange 2g network. 3 have a roaming agreement with orange..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Why you asked here & didn't contact your carrier in the first instance is beyond me. For whatever reason, your phone is obviously connecting to a network other than your carrier by default.
Why ? Who knows ? Could be a problem with your carrier where you're using your phone, and your carrier has a roaming agreement with another carrier so your phone is trying to use that network as it's the only one available.
Contact your carrier to find out/get this sorted. Nothing anyone here can say to sort it for you.
Roaming means you are not in your home network. Not necessarily you are abroad... In India when you move to a particular region where your network provider has no cell towers, you could still get the signal... This is because they have agreement with other providers there... In this case you will see the roaming symbol in Android. The setting in android phone is just to let the phone know that i would not like to use data network when in roaming. Because carriers charge more than usual for data used in roaming.

I'm currently on vacation in Kauai, Hawai'i, and have the exact same issue. I called Sprint, and they blamed the lack of towers in this remote area. Where are you located?
I'm running stock rooted, on the latest OTA, BTW.

Had the same problem earlier last month in between Panama City Beach and the state of Alabama. I could make calls, but getting any data wasn't happening. Maybe the towers up there don't roam for data, just voice?
