This would be so dope. I've been a long time webOS fan and it'd be sick to be able to run it on a phone that actually works. Would love to see some developers working on this

There is a few links discussing a working ubuntu on the TB. Even one that claims to have steps on how to do it but unfortunately that specific thread has been closed. Any help relating to this would be a big help. Thank you
You might was want to go look at AndIRC in #thunderbolt. Someone there should be able to help.
Please don't send people to IRC for a simple web search anser.

Trust me I did that search. It just brings up a thread with dead links or leads to closed threads

Yeah I had the same problem trying to find a not dead link for that so I gave up.
I will work on putting something together

I'm not new to android but I am new to developing. I have no experience at all. I have been reading different websites on a good way to start and each are very different. My goal is to be able to develop aosp roms. Apps is my secondary goal. I want to be able to develop/code from the source. Kitchens are not my preference. I'm hoping on a long shot for a Rom developer to teach me the ropes. From beginning to end sort of thing. We are a community here, so I'm hoping we can pass on knowledge to others who are willing (like me). Anybody willing to take me under their wings?

I know little to nothing about compiling AOSP, but I do know you need Linux (Ubuntu) and the Android source code. However, rather than branching out yet again, why don't you consider contributing to the cyanogen mod project instead? It's already rather refined but always accepts creative new ideas.
If you need help with app development, give me a pm. I do some myself at www.gundersoft.com

Linux is free, you can either set up a VM or dual boot w/ windows. Linux is the key that will open the door for ya.

I saw in another thread that it's an Atrix 2.
Lets not hold our breath on whether we'll get it or not.. Looks like they are looking for developers from the companies to get compatibility development going...
I wish someone would release an DIY on how to compile the ARM ubuntu for us to mod our webtops...
No freaking way.

I hear ya....
I wish sometimes I had the technical know how to make these things... it's such a great idea, and if it was possible. I couldn't imagine the capabilities.... especially with things like the lapdock
this may just be a foolish hope, but I see many similarities to the current webtop, so the atrix might be one of the first devices with this feature. Who knows, maybe it will replace webtop under the upcoming ICS release
You can already run Ubuntu on the atrix...

What you're saying is like saying I can run windows on my phone...
not sure if you understand the point of this?
What you refer to is VNC (virtual network computing)
this is native (as in ubuntu runs off the phone interacting with the kernel itself)
Hmmm so the Ubuntu Installer app in the market is VNC? I'm pretty sure it installed a legit Ubuntu 10.10 ARM optimized on your phone.

The one in the market will mount the Ubuntu image as loop device. Then, you can use VNC to remote into the GUI of the image. It works, but is not optimal.

this. the ubuntu installer is like a gimmick lol
i'm definitely not holding my breath. not a chance in hell moto will waste moneydelivering an upgrade of this caliber to a year old phone. better believe i won't be upgrading again unless that upgrade has this tho =D
unfortunately our best hope is in the community devs. and considering they're working on their own time and not getting paid, what kinda odds you figure? lol i'd donate time and money to this, btw i don't want a next gen atrix with a clunky ass 10lb lapdock. i like the one i have
This is probably old news but I just recently saw this on the Ubuntu website. Looks pretty freaking sweet! Still in development tho.

There's actually a phone made by Fujitsu that's similar in that it can be booted into the full desktop windows 7 32 bit by the switch of a button. The downside I see to it is that when you are running it the phones radio is turned off so you can't receive calls or texts also the phone UI is some proprietary Fujitsu software. Needless to say it looks pretty lame compared to Android but nevertheless it's still pretty awesome looking. Here's a few links if you guy's wanna check it out.

Would like to point out while Ubuntu are working on it, there are already a range of projects to get it running on your device (see my sig) my project is on of the more active projects, really the only big thing missing that they have working is native graphics (right now my project uses a vnc server within ubuntu to view gui within android).
Mine works on a whole host of devices (not just dual core like ubuntu project) and you can also install debian or backtrack if you wish.
We are in the process of adding more options to the app and making it far more user friendly (Although it is already pretty fool proof)
I love ubuntu on my pc. I would love it on my phone.

Im excited for the fact you can take you computer with you. simply dock it them WALLA you get a working desktop environment. i have reservations on it using Google docs though, i tried, but never can really use Google docs the way i use my other office programs, just doesn't have the flexibility.
But im excited! I've alread click their link on their page.
Also, with the advent of ICS tgeb JB they need to kick it into gear or how else they going to keep up with the upgrades?

If you can virtualize another distribution within it, you basically have Linux within Linux within Linux.
Linception.

That is a whole nother ballgame, ubuntu touch is a pain. Lol
I've given up on working on it for now, as i really need my phone to be working 110% all the time, so im back to stock....with a handful of modifications ofc.
Using th3bills cm10.1 i was trying to just port it over without having to.build like they say in the porting guide, and no luck outside of a loop. User error really. Its best left to the trusted devs, etc round here.
Our phones can handle it great, and then some, BUT, as with anything over the stock gb, without drivers things dont work as they should. Ubuntu touch is really frikkin awesome to look st, but even if someone ports it, it is only a preview an 90% of the features wont work or are just placeholders. Id let it sit a while, not worth a damn atm. But it does give you a taste of the ui. Which, is tough getting used to as it is very gesture oriented as apposed to click here scroll here that we do on android.
-Cheers- Signed,

Thanks for share sir .. i though anyone haven't try it yet .. i follow the ubuntu touch forum every day hope that some of our great dev will port it. But i still wait it until happen.. i hope

If I can find some free time in my super-busy college schedule, I'd like to try my hand at porting it for us. Not just because it would be awesome to have it, but because I'd like to eventually do some app development for it (and it looks like a badass OS for a phone).
Can I put Ubuntu on my Photon even with 2.3.5?
I think you have to unlock the bootloader first.

Unfortunately not. Ubuntu requires it to be unlocked. (ubuntu ATM is highly reliant on cm10 still, so if you can't run cm10,which 2.3.5 can't)
Your stuck between a rock and a hard place

What is the point? We need a decent kernel that can actually support our phone. Atrix 4G succeeded, and all development has halted here. This phone seems pretty much done. Very disappointing.
