I had an S5830i, which is the same phone only slightly different IIRC, however I broke it and had it replaced. The replacement they sent me seems to be just an S5380, no i.
The phones interface is totally different with different icons and everything. The "Baseband version" says S5380XWKS2, is this an S5830?
It appears to be running Android 2.3.5 GINGERBREAD.XWKS3
Another thing, when I try to access the recovery mode, I just get a black screen with the samsung logo and something about RAMDUMP in the corner.
And finally, is this a better version than the i of the same phone? I recall reading that they had different GPUs and the normal S5830s is better?
Thanks
Edit: Should probably be in the Q&A section, if a mod would kindly move it.

The phone itself is identical to the i except even behind the battery, on the sticker there is no i, so does anyone know what particular S5830 I have? I don't want to flash something meant for another model and brick it.

Yeah, took me a while to figure that out.. thought my phone had no recovery thing on it.
So is the Ace better than the /i/ in terms of GPU/CPU(overclock capability? I know the i doesn't have it)

17/06 or 09/07 ? Which one is better ?
The thing is the S5830i can be OCed much more than the S5830 , but the S5830 has a GPU (Adreno 200) which is definitely better than the S5830i (no GPU , CPU does graphics calculations)
If you guys were to look in the perspective of the computers , the S5830i is just like an Intel processor with integrated graphic chipset -- the cpu handles graphical calculations , whereas others have a separate GPU -- which allow higher performance gaming

Yes, it's not possible to OC it, I don't know why though if it's just a driver issue or what

If he disabled it then it's for stability . Sometimes OC isn't too good if it's very marginal .
But if it wasn't enabled from the start then it's either he didn't implement it or it's a CPU issue

Hi guys.
ICS users should take a look at this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662237
It's the apk of S-Voice, direclty extract from a Samsung Galaxy S3.
Just put it on system/app and give it proper rights (rw-r--r--)
Please, feedback, i'm currently not on an ICS based, and i wont switch for now, so if someone want test it and confirm dat it works on our device, would be great (already try it on a SGS friend, worked very well ^^)
If any crash appears, u probably should edit build.prop, and change device name to GT-I9300 (SGS3 number)
Have fun with S-Voice !
I've tried to install it like it is said in the topic. Seems like it crash when i open it :/. I have ics. I keep trying

There is 3 lines with number model in build.prop : ro.build.model, ro.build.name and ro.build.board
I think u have to change one of those (dont know which ...) with "GT-I9300" to stop FC. Could u try it ?
S-voice works perfectly on my phone, don't think there's a need to change anything. I'm not sure

I'm really thinking into unlocking the bootloader and flashing custom ROM. The official update is nice, but I think the ROMs here will be better.

Cyanogenmod is the only solution

I have the same problem. Did a full wipe and format the sd card, but after installing a few apps, there is the problem with "android os" using the most of battery. Over night in airplane mode my phone need ca. 45% of battery. Hope someone have an idea, i dont want to loose the garanty.

I had the same problem. For me, wiping all the recently used apps away did the trick. It seems to me, that the recently used apps are still working somehow in the background to ease with multi-tasking, even tough I closed them and am using a taskkilller, seems weird, but facts are facts. I went form a day and a half of light use to three and a have days of light use. By light use I mean, occasional gaming and some surfing with wifi. Hope this helps anyone!

Hi guys, it's been some long time that the SGP 3.6 has been released but received no love yet... Here I am with the stock insecure kernel for the 3.6. This can become in the future some custom kernel with OC support and multiple governors but now it's just a simple kernel...
Disclaimer
I'm not resposible for anything that happens to your device because YOU AND ONLY YOU decided to do these changes.
Features:
Based on XXLH3
Insecure (You get root in an adb shell a.k.a easier rooting)
CWM 5.0.2.7
All the good stock features (no OC)
Download:
Kernel Download
Kernel Download (US devices)
Instructions:
Well you do already know... But for those not knowing, Flash the tar with odin or the normalboot.img with heimdall.
Sources
Initramfs Source (it's the only thing i've modified on the kernel.)
Thanks:

hello all.
I am planning on turning my wife's old Galaxy Ace into a simple gaming device for our 6 year old. It'll be used for nothing else except for games so i'm looking for a rom that will use up as little memory and processing power as possible.
I know i'll need to root the phone so to save apps onto the SD card as the Ace is very poor for storage.
The phone currently has the latest Orange UK rom on it (2.3.7 i think). Would i be as well just keeping this and rooting the phone or is there something much better? I see there are custom ICS and jelly bean roms out for the phone, are these viable or do they slow the phone down even more than gingerbread?
thanks in advance.

It's a simple build.prop edit. It can be edited to even 5.0 or 70.99, but it will stay GB. So sorry, it's still GB.
Some users think they are so bad ass that they are on JB and other members are stuck on GB.
And proudly show the About Phone pic.
This still is due to the first world problem of lack of reading. The first thing a person does in ROM thread is to look for Download link and then instructions and then after facing problems, returns to ask same questions provided in OP or misconcepts the whole thing.
For ages, people have been falsely elated by the fact that JellyBlast is Jelly Bean 4.1.1 even though their is no feature of it or you can't install even ICS+ apps

He didn't ask if it was possible to do a Jb. He asked if it was possible to flash it, if it existed at the moment.
Enviado do meu cooperve com a CyanmobileX rom
hey just a simple question.
hello everyone I own a galaxy note 2 and I learn about flashing and all that stuff with my HTC one V... ok the point. a friend of mine just bought a galaxy ace M, and I will help with the flashing. the thing is which rom do you recomend for battery life? (he doesnt need many bloatware apps just a simple rom with good battery life) any suggestions?
P.S Im currently reading as many post as I can but none of the roms talk about battery life...
