Hi folks,
Has anyone ever had touchscreen issues with the 101 G9 Turbo?
I have a very simular issue to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458555&highlight=multitouch
I recently purchased two Archos G9 101 Turbo (1.5Ghz) tablets both had the same touchscreen defect. Video shown has "Developer options, Show touches" enabled. http://youtu.be/V5OYq9E5j1I
Anything more than a gentle touch on the screen will cause a number of additional touches in the surrounding area. Even holding the tablet from the rear using one hand will cause this problem.
I never had this problem with the original G9 101...
Is this normal or a genuine hardware defect?
I'm trying to work out if I should return them and get a replacement or go for a refund
Thanks
-Richard
I have a new 101 G9 Turbo and have no similar touch screen issues.
Sounds like a HW issue to me.

Is your model a 1.5Ghz/512Mb or 1.2Ghz/512Mb ? have you had it long?
Thanks
-Richard
As per my signature, it's 1.5GHz CPU, 1Gb RAM, 16Gb Flash. Had it about 2 weeks (bought to replace a smashed 80G9 non-turbo!)

Thanks.
I took them back to HMV they brought out another tablet with a very different serial number but again it had the same fault.
Might have to try a different store

Touchscreen defect
Already got two Archos 101G9 Turbos with same problem.
Waiting for third device under guarantee. I hope this is a hardware bug from one batch.
Waiting already 8 weeks for new device, according to Archos ´waiting for spare parts to repair´.
Sounds they know what the problem is and dont swap for a new one.
Fingers crossed.

Frank are yours also the 8Gb model?
I think it only affects recent (2012?) 8GB 1.5Ghz Turbo models with ICS pre-installed.
I've managed to get two older 16GB 1.5Ghz Turbo's with Honeycomb which are un-affected, they feel much more rigid and dont flex.

Richard, I have the Archos 101g9 250Gb Turbo. I tried ICS pre-installed version, ICS rooted version, Android 3.2.
All the same problem.
It looks like software/driver problem because the screen rotates when I rotate the tablet when the touchscreen is not working.
Maybe if the tablet is hot, or busy, or coming back from stand-by. I cant find a cause yet, and now its already for two months at Archos for guarantee

For those who experience problems with the lcd screen of there Archos, I can tell you why this happens.
I have an Archos 101 g9 250 gb Tablet. I now experience problems with my screen. When I press the bottom of the tablet the screen flickers, All kind of colors show.
My warranty is over, I contacted archos in France, China (manufacturer). No reply at all.
I found out that this is an problem that happens a lot with Archos tablet.
So what to do now. I opened it, checked the yellow ribbon that connects the lcd screen to the hardware of the tablet. See the pictures. After some fiddling I found out that the ribbon has a weak part.
The ribbon is made out of two parts. The connection to the lcd screen is 40 pin, while the ribbon itself is 20 pin. They soldered the 40 pin to the 20 pin. Where it is soldered together some pins are broken.
This 40 pin connection is on the bottom of the lcd screen. So, when you press on the bottom of the tablet, you automatically press on the connection.
I tried to repair it, but I found out that repairing is impossible. It is to small.
And now I can throw the tablet away.

I've had my 80 G9 for about 2 months and was happy with the USB host function, unfortunately last week the socket started to have a intermittent conection problem this issue was not fixed with reboot I discovered that pulling the socket to it's extended position allowed connection and now even that doesn't work and the port looks to be dead.
Is this a known issue? is there an easy fix? or is an RMA in order?
Thanks
Erwin

Same thing happened to me last week... I am thinking it is in need of RMA
There seems to be a problem with a low quality ribbon used for the 3G port where the lines in the ribbon gets torn if the port is moved out and in a number of times.
Unfortunately I can't post links but there are pictures in a thread called '3G stick does not connect anymore' in the 80 G9 section of forums.archosfans.com
This is a bummer, I'm moving from Memphis TN to Southern California next month was hoping to use this for music on the trip, well RMA when I get settled.
Just received a OTG cable, that seems to also have a problem, it's an ether or thing, host no charge / charge no host, can't to do both at the same time.
Mine has just failed also. It looks like an hardware/manufacturing/component quality defect.
Here's the link with more info on this issue and a solution if you're hardware hacking minded (Thanks Belafon for pointing me in the right direction)
Fortunately for me I've already trashed one G9 so I've got a full set of spare parts.
It's definitely a valid reason to RMA, which I would do myself but I like that warm feeling I get when I void warranties.
I think this problem looks to be widespread enough that Archos should issue a Recall on the product and also cover shipping.

Ha ha Archos don't operate that way they ignore you until you go away, been kicking myself ever since I ordered the damn thing what a waste of money. Only lesson in this is don't buy any Archos product, better off spending a little more and getting a real tablet.
Myn failed to after the 4.0.4 update.. I turned on the 3g switch and look at the gap between ghe tablet and althe 3g stick and the 3g stick light is on but the tablet dosent read it. Looks like driver problem

Hi Reiner!
You have break your warrantly... I have a an archos 80 g9 and I have the same problem. I thin the solution is to buy a new tablet...
Peace.
hello everyone,
i recently picked up a cheap android tablet at a bootsale for £5, now its a bit slow, and needs an update since its running 2.1 still,
but... bring s me to my problem... how do i update a knock off? the firmware its running is of a different tablet so i need to find a way to port a tablet rom to it if thats possible? the spec of the tablet is...
256mb ram,
1.2ghz single core processor,
10.1 inch resistive touchscreen,
1 single button on the front of screen, usb input micro usb output, micro sd slot, volume rocker and lock button on side
any help would be nice im not a total noob with taking roms apart and editing code i just need somewhere to start, a similar device for example lol
cheers guys!!!
Hi
I'm hoping someone can help me. I have an Archos 80 G9 given to me as it wasnt charging, the connector had come off the board but I have re soldered it back and now charges fine.
However whilst I had the tablet was apart the touch screen no longer works, (whether a connector is broke or not I am unsure.) I am hoping someone has a picture of how the inside is supposed to look like or take a picture then I can begin the process of elimination.
Many Thanks
Hi,
I had a similar problem with an Archos, it turned out the screen just needed to be configured again
Hold power and volume up on boot till the white screen
Repair system
Force touch screen calibration
---------------
If this doesn't work check your connection on the two ribbons connected to te motherboard that is the only two connectors from screen to the board, the other two white and black wires are power and signal for wireless.
Good luck
Hi,
So I recently bought a Platinum HD 9.7 to replace my G9 101 but it is dreadfull !!
Its really slow, I keep getting 'Force Closes', the Wifi is flakey and charging via USB is a bit dodgy, the connector has to be perfectly flush and it only seems to work with the supplied charger, most other chargers don't even register (I know you need the proper charger to charge at a decent rate, but it should still charge slowly off a 500mA supply).
Is anyone else seeing these issues?
Also slightly worrying I tried to register my device on the Archos website so I could complain to tech support, but it says the serial number is unrecognised, Could I have a cheap chinese clone ? I bought it from overclockers which seem reputable ?
Cheers,
Neil
