Problem since 4.03r5 - Sony Tablet S

Since I updated to r5 last week, I have a problem with App shortcuts disappearing from the home screen every time I power down my tablet. There are 2 games (both from Glu, though other Glu games are fine, strangely enough), and the other one that keeps disappearing is the XDA app!
I add the shortcuts back every time I turn the Tablet back on but whenever I turn it off, the shortcuts for those 3 apps vanish.
Anyone else having similar issues or know how to fix this? Not a critical issue but bloody annoying!
Thx,
L

Thought it was just me. My beloved XDA app keeps going awol.

lol, this is too funny. Try clearing the launcher data, you will need to readd all your icons and widgets but should solve the problem. It worked for me.

For me, the problem exists with user apps that have been moved to sdcard (Move to USB storage in settings). Moving the apps back to internal storage (Move to tablet in settings) stops the user app icons from disappearing. The problem does not seem to effect system apps. Despite CJHolderUK saying it works for him, clearing the Home app's data does not fix the problem. The problem is definitely a 4.0.3r5 bug that needs to be reported to Sony.

Guys, most of the issues are caused by the new update, try a factory reset, most of the issues like the launcher bug and wifi sleep mode shutdown bug should be gone after that, remember, always expect a problem after a update

I agree with andyabc
factory reset corrected this error

Thought I was going mad...was sure I'd put a shortcut in a folder but it wasn't there! App is on local storage too...
Only solution is a factory reset? Oh man....not again! lol

Several people, including myself, have performed a factory reset attempting to solve the disappearing icons problem. It does NOT solve the problem. Sony's Tablet Sustaining Engineering (SE) Team has been notified about the problem. No solution has been posted yet.

Yeah true, a factory reset on the Sony Xperia Tablet S does not do anything to the problems since its not some large update to the framework, kernel and modules.
For the Sony Tablet S, most of the issues are caused by data from the previous version of the OS and also /data/local/tmp/ (I found out some root scripts when i was trying to root my tablet ended up there XD) but you can simply factory reset to restore the factory version but be aware that if you disabled any apps, in the factory reset process the "disabled" apps/files will be renamed to there original file name in /system/app/

Factory reset on Tablet S does not resolve issue either. I tried but the same apps still go missing after you turn the Tablet off. :banghead:

I find that only apps that have been moved to sdcard will go missing from the homescreen. I simply move everything to the internal storage, there is no more missing apps on the homescreen.
However it is still a annoying bug.

Your prob thinking BIG WOOP.... Well with this recovery you CAN NOT run shell in recovery.....
Therfore you CAN NOT decrypt updates nor disable signature check. So we (for now) CAN NOT flash custom ROMS.
If/when Sony/Google patch this root method (adb restore) we will no longer be future proof i.e. pre-rooting

P.S Sorry wasn't worth making a new thread && it is a PROBLEM

Yes, I can confirm ADB shell does not work with tablet in Recovery Mode after update to Android 4.0.3r5. I notice that when tablet is in Normal Mode, ADB correctly returns the tablet's serial number, but when tablet is in Recovery Mode, ADB incorrectly returns the tablet's serial number as 0123456789ABCDEF. Did ADB always do this or is this something new?

Factory Reset and still Keyboard doesnt work?

Hey guys,
after having several problems with my nook i dicided to factory reset it. The thing now ist many apps are missing for Example "Chess". Also my Keyboard settings are broken, if i click on them it says "The application Settings (process com.android.settings) hast stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Does anyone of you have a clue what i can do?
I guess i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19513995&postcount=1 method to root my nook
Do you have clockworkmod installed as a system recovery? If so, try booting into that and clearing dalvik-cache and fixing permissions.
couldnt install it, ive tried to install it but it never worked so i decided to make a factory reset and yeah now nothing works, i even cant find the browser :/
my issus to install cwm you can find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487468
How are you doing the factory reset?, also can you open some apps or non at all, because you could try sideloading cwm install app with ADB to later open it and flash cwm . Also you could use the acclaim_update.zip, I know with cwm you have no luck prep the sdcard but maybe for the acclaim zip you do.

no try sideloading using adb:
[HOW-TO] Use ADB tool | Android Debug Bridge
Edit: I think is better that you try with the acclaim_update.zip as your nook system is not behaving right, seems like if it were corrupted, also have you check your firmware version is still 1.4.0 and not 1.4.1?.

Thank you for this post.
I will profit it to put a problem that I've since Honeycomb and continuous with ICS.
I've created a script to have the music in media library from sdcard2, that script was in init.d folder.
Since then I' m getting the error message:
"android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. please try again."
Even after deleting the script I get this error every time that tablet starts.
I thought that with ICS upgrade this get fixed, but no, I still have the problem.
I'm sorry in advance if this is wrong topic to post this, it's just that I need 10 posts to create threads and post replys in other topics and I don't wanna just bluntly spam in order to ask one questions.
I have a problem rooting my tablet :
Model number : Sony Tablet S
Android version : 4.0.3
Kernel version : 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1
Build number : TISU0017700
I've followed this rooting guide and also used Automated ADB Driver Installer for Sony Tablet S and P.
Seems like everythings working :

But I'm getting this problem at the very start of rooting with permissions, I tried old and updated rooting tools several times, but I constantly get this one error.
In any case, I hope this problem can be solved and I have everything right. ( Was trying to root a device first time ) x_x

"Android version: 4.0.3" is the problem. To the best of my knowledge, at this time, a tablet that has already been updated to Android 4.0.3 cannot be rooted, nor can it be downgraded to a version of Android that can be rooted. You will need to wait until an exploit is discovered/created.

Try this,
Reboot into recovery goto Advanced then select Clear Dalvik Cache
If that still didn't do it, then you must reflash you Prerooted ICS,
Edit:
Do you still have some sort of file changed?,
if thats the case then i want to know which app contains the error you could try to reinstall the system app by changing its permissions etc,
with Romtoolbox for example. i will make backup try to upload the file you replace it wil the old one reinstall and then there should be a problem no more,
Also make shure you don't have any files left on you tablet wich contains changes,

In recovery mode I don't have "advanced" option.
Only 1. reboot, 2. update from zip and 3. factory reset.
edit: SOLVED
In Setting / applications / All
I clear data for program "Media Storage" and the error message stopped!

Doesn't come out of sleep
Several times a week, the tablet won't come out of sleep. Pressing the power button does nothing and I have to resort to using the reset button on the right side of the tablet. This started happening after ICS update.
Anybody else have this problem? Solutions?
yea i had that problem with HC, but maybe like 3 times since ive bought device. All i did was plug into pc and it turned on....has not happened in ics update, but it probably will.
Hey,
Just one question
Can we flash ICS by placing the zip in pendrive and connecting it to our Tablet?
Will the AIO tool find the zip?
Thanks
Nope, maby it can be possible but the recovery is not made to search in
external devices, only External SDCard inserted in the normal way,
Because if so you could simply search your PC within recovery
I know it can be used for a bootable image for PC but this won't work on Android (For now)
Who knows if some dev will change Recovery, and make it so, that he can find other devices as well.
I am new to all this. I successfully rooted the tablet without using AiO tool. But i have no idea where to proceed next. Can you dirext me to the appropriate forum/topic/post that can help me move forward.

Hello all,
Since ICS update, battery behaviour is very weird, it is dischargind very quickly, also when standby. It last one day and a hal whereas before it lasted at least 4 or 5 days... Am I the only one concerned by that problem ? Do you think it could be caused by something else than ICS update ?
Thank you all in advance...

Its most likely that you have some sort of app installed that drains your battery,
Do you use a Task killer?, that kills automatic?
Because this can cause battery drain aswell, since android has his own way of killing his apps there is no need to kill apps by an 3th-party appkiller.
You can check in your app settings, within running apps, which apps currently are
running, like a music player of movie player.
Also Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Auto Sync and GPS can use allot of energie.
i'm not shure how long my tablet runs if its in standby, but it is longer then yours.
No task killer running, I do that manually...
But I've uninstalled chrome beta and since last charge, 14 hours ago, tablet has lost 11%...
Kind of bizarre...

I have the l65 d280, it's pretty good for the price, however I can't seem to find ANY rom for this phone, so it kind of sucks being stuck with all the crapware my network carrier loaded into my phone, I'm not happy with that.
So for the time being, it lacks customization, however this could change in the following months, if and when this happens then yeah, I'll say it' a pretty solid phone.

I can't move from the step six because the console gives me an error saying that can't reach the file or directory.
My computer recognize my lg l65 as an lg e460.
Could that be the reason of the problem?
I already installed all lg l65 drivers including ADB.
What could i do to my pc recognets my smartphone as an lg l65?
Thank you very much people!
Hi,
I tried to setup this with the sdcard as/data partition, but somehow the system is really slow at many points and network transfers also only use a ~5kB/s.
Is it possible that the problem is really only a slow SD, or could that be the rom itself what's slowing it down that bad?

Try with /mnt/shell/emulated/0 instead of /sdcard.
So commands of point 6 become
Code:
dd if=/mnt/shell/emulated/0/aboot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
dd if=/mnt/shell/emulated/0/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Let us know if works or not

Hi, I've rooted and moved all the apps on sdcard as well, and it was very slow due to the memory speed. Then I've bought a sdcard class 10 and now it's pretty fast, quite like the internal memory...
Sent from my LG-D280n using XDA-Developers mobile app
No Android 6? Id really like to add the use external memory as internal without rooting or anything.

[q] moto g help pls!!!

Hey guys, I recently rooted my moto g. I the process of doing that I thought it would be cool to use a resolutioj changer. So i downloaded the app, and used the wrong size and it set my size to 4x2. Now my screen is so small, i canr just delete the app. I have tried to factory reset it, and that failed I got a No command message. Is there a way that I can get my Moto G working again?

You can do 2 things. Delete the app using adb and see if that helps. Before that try to start the app using adb and try to change the display settings inside the app.
About opening and removing app using adb, check online guides
EXAMPLE
Code:
adb shell am start -n com.package.name/COM.PACKAGE.NAME.ACTIVITYNAME
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Free mobile app
?
How would i do that? Please be detailed
When it says no command push the volume up or maybe it's power and volume up don't remember which one exactly
???CAUTION???
May ruin other ROMS after this
because nothing compares
Thanks for all the help
I went on to another forum Where in fastboot I did
fastboot devices
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot

Vírus infection

first i'm sorry if i'm on the wrong topic.
I installed an application to test (pirate) and I believe I caught some type of malware.
Even restoring the device it is slow.
My device is SM-J510MN, Android 7.1.1 without root.
Before installing Android he warned me that the App could track me. Any solution?

Did you tried factory reset? Most malwares disappears that way, but if it elevated privilege and installed itself as system, you're screwed.
First try to reboot in safe mode, and see if the app is still here.

Hello, thanks for replying.
The application is no longer installing but the device is very slow.

It must have installed some others apps in the background or something in those lines, try safe mode and see if it's still slow.
Edit#1: You also might want to see which account were connected to this device, they might have been compromised, and you should change password ASAP just to be sure
IMHO an Android phone or tablet can be classified as slow, if it's taking longer than the usual time to open apps and if you can clearly notice a delay while switching between screens. In case of installed malware, then if the malware tries to perform somewhat intensive tasks on your phone or tablet, you may find that your device begins to slow down as it takes up processing power to do its job. This results in slower loading, apps hanging, and long boot times. It may also cause interruptions and other weird occurrences while making a phone call.
BTW:
One easily can check in real-time what apps/services are running ( plus their priority ) to find any bottlenecks by means of ADB, i.e. running
Code:
adb devices
adb shell "top <options>"
