[Q] interrupt Odin flash - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A friend of mine was about to flash a stock rom trough Odin, but his girlfriend interrupt the flash by closing the laptop.
Now the phone is stuck on the "download process bar". Could he just reboot the phone in to download and start over?

Pull the battery and wait for a minute. Insert a jig and you should be back in downloadmode. If you don`t have a jig order one. You could try it manualy (volume down + menu button + power button pressed at the same time). Good luck

Yea!
I just held the power button an powered it off, the screen started flashing telling me that a firmware update went bad, so i pulled the battery an rebooted in to Download mode an now i'm watching the progress bar work it's way to a functional System.

it got stuck in a bootloop, but he just flashed cf-root wiped data, cache and dalvik, now it's up an running again

he should break up with her though
sent from my microwave

I didn't even need to pull out the battery. I just unplugged the cable, kept pressing the 3 buttons for the downloading sequence for a few seconds until the the green Android image re-appeared and re-plugged the cable. Odin was then good to go again.
Good luck!

Is my Phone dunzo?

I Had recently rooted my phone, and tried installing voodoo. However, I factory reset my phone VIA Settings>privacy on my phone. After i did that my phone could not boot past the samsung screen. So I tried to use Odin and flash recover the original system. It would not complete, the green bar would just sit there. I then went to restart my phone and it goes to a screen with a symbol thats looks like a caution sign in the middle of a phone and a computer. and when i plug my phone into the charger the battery does not move, its just frozen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804784
when i plug in my USB it just goes to a frozen battery screen
also if I try to boot to recovery it just stays at the samsung screen
Download an Odin all-in-one (AIO) package (DI01 or EB01). Take the battery out of your phone. With the battery out, hold on Vol Dn and plug in the USB cable while the button is still held in. This should put you into download mode. Flash the Odin AIO you downloaded and you should be good to start over.
any chance for a link to the AIO ?

HELP! bricked my vibrant

i just flashed simply honey 3.8 via odin, i did back to stock before via odin (came from cm7) but after flashed simply honey, my phone stucked at rainbow screen sayin partition partition stupid partition, so i read that to get rid that rainbow i should flash gb bootloader, then i flashed the bootloader via odin, yeah the rainbow has gone but my phone keeps bootloping in vibrant and bullet screen then sayin partition2 bla bla, i can't get to odin with 2 button combo, it's just go to charging wtf, i can't even get to cwm via 3 buttons combo, help me guys, thx in advance
Have you tried
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Just checking, did you take out your battery, unplugged the usb, put the battery back in, then held vol up, vol down, and power and released all three as soon as you saw the Vibrant logo?
and if that doesnt work try all the steps above but minus one step! hold down both volume buttons except power and see if that works!

It's not bricked, I know you're mad and frustrated, trust me, I've been there a million times!
Lets try taking out the battery and leave it out for 15 minutes. Reboot your computer and unplug every usb.
Then try the above steps again.

tried it, still my phone can't see the download mode screen, i can't bring it to t-mobile since i don't live in states
If you flashed the bootloaders then the mapping is different. Try power button and volume up without the usb plugged and with the battery in. That should get you in download mode.

You are not bricked. I just had the same thing happen flashing the light version with Rom Manager. Since you flashed the Bootloaders, the key combination has changed. Hold down the volume up and power key. Release when you see the vibrant logo-that should take you into red recovery. When there, go to voodoo, choose disable. It will tell you it is 'actually enable' and will be disabled next boot. So reboot and let it do its thing. When I did it the Android in space finally showed up.
EDIT: I'm pretty sure you don't need to go into download mode to reflash with odin, just disable the lagfix. If it doesn't boot into the Android, then volume down+power will take you into download and reflash after the lagfix is finished disabling.
EDIT 2: And with the Gingerbread bootloader, you can't go into download mode if plugged in anymore. It will not go past the charger like on the Froyo Bootloaders.
EDIT 3: Sorry got the key mapping backwards, lol here it is straight from the Bootloaders site.
Gingerbread Bootloaders - No Rainbow - Fully visible Recovery on all ROMs
Benefits - No more rainbows on Gingerbread 2.3 ROMs like Simply Honey GB, LiDroid, Asgard, etc.
Convenient Key Maps for entering Recovery and Download Modes. (I personally like these mappings over the Standard Vibrant Mapping as you can enter download mode directly without needing to turn off phone or remove battery etc...)
For Recovery - Lower Volume Key + Power Button
For Download - Upper Volume Key + Power Button

I'm impressed with your risk taking capabilities man... Dont know how old you are to Android, and I'm not commenting on that, but from what I see, you are just 15 posts old, and you managed to flash Bootloaders to your phone...
Do read the OP for possible solutions before you flash anything... That said, till you have a screen, its not a brick.
Flash the bootloaders, using the new key mapping, and then flash the ROM, you should be good to go !!!
maybe one of you guys can help me here
i have the rainbow screen and i cannot get computer to recognize phone. i have to get into download mode with a dongle and odin still does not recognize my phone. i cannot boot into recover as the screen is completely rainbowed out and I cannot see what I am doing.
Are there any suggestions on what to do from here?
Thank you

[Q] Phone loops at AT&T drop screen, can't enter download mode [Resolved]

I was using this topic to try to fix my phone from an earlier issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
I accidentally flashed a CM9 from the i19100 instead of the i777, and when I tried to flash the Siyeah kernal, the phone stopped working. I used the topic I mentioned above and tried to use Odin to flash back to fix it, and now the phone just loops in the AT&T logo if it's not plugged in to the USB, and just flashes the batter icon at me if it is plugged while I try to enter download mode.
I cannot find a solution for this. I tried the Vol Up+Down+Power, which didn't work, and since I can't get it to turn on, nothing else will work. I have no idea how to proceed.
EDIT: Fixed by getting into download mode by holding Vol Down + Power, instead of the three button trick. Might come in handy for others. I had the boot loop on the AT&T splash screen that seems to require a jig most of the time.

Cant enter download mode while USB is plugged in.
try Vol up, Vol down. Insert USB.
And if that works, next time, try searching more.
Flashing a CM9 from i9100 will not brick your phone, hell it should boot still. but get d/l mode and back to a i777 kernal, then recovery, and flash ROM. i777 ROM

It booted, but was giving me a Status 7 error when I tried to flash a nightly (because I didn't realize I had flashed a i9100 rom at the time, figured that out after some searching) so I decided to just use Odin to flash back stock.
And, no luck on the Vol Up+Down then plugging in. Tried with battery and without. With batter, just shows the charged batter screen like it did before. Without battery it just flashes the grey battery icon over and over.
I had a similar issue. to get to download mode use Vol up+down+power with the USB cable plugged in. make sure you hold them down until the download mode appears.

Been trying that for hours. Definitely not getting to download mode that way.
Odin still recognizes my phone when I turn it on. If I unplug it, turn it on, then plug it back in, Odin will recognize the phone, though I can't actually enter download mode.

Do you have recovery? do a factory reset inside recovery?
But you got bigger problem if you cant get into download mode. you sure your doing it right? sorry have to ask.
Vol up Vol down, hold both those while inserting USB, hold untill screen pops up.
Or a Jig.
No, no recovery. Splash screen and batter screen. Those are the only things I get to see.
I looked at the jig, but I don't have the supplies to make it off hand (no soldering iron), and no one I could find seemed to have as many problems with this as I was. Most of them just couldn't get into download mode and weren't having looping issues.

Yeah, I guess there's no other solutions. I thought maybe there was just something I couldn't find. I ordered a jig from amazon with overnight shipping. Hopefully it will work.
Try the following;
USB cable plugged into phone and motherboard battery out. Hold volume +/-. Insert battery. Continue holding volume +/- until you either get the battery charging animation or download mode.
If that doesn't get you download mode nothing short of a jig or jtag will..
Goodluck!

Alright, I can get into download mode and 3e recovery, but I have no idea what to do from there.

Yeah, I reflashed stock + root, then flashed a kernal with CWM, then flashed CM9, then Siyah. Now I'm back to where I was, finally.
It turned out that in the beginning, when I was having the bad boot loop problem, I could get into download mode by holding Vol Down + Power, which wasn't mentioned anywhere that I could find. I just did it for kicks while the internet wasn't work and while I was turning my phone on and off.
Anywho, after much work and me learning to use Heimdall, the phone is working. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

[Q] Flashed rom with Stock Recovery...

So basically, a friend of mine handed me a phone that he tried flashing a custom ROM with Stock Recovery... Cant do much at the moment with the phone. Constantly gives off " Force Close " crap and its extremely laggy. I've heard to use ODIN? I'm not too familiar with this kind of problem. Any solution?
P.S. , I cannot get into download mode. I tried factory reset. I tried getting my way through the phone by dodging all the force close pop-ups. No good.

Can't get into Download Mode? Impossible. Plug your USB cable into your computer, and while plugging it into your phone, press and hold the volume down button until you see the shoveldroid. It is actually impossible to not be able to go into download mode.
And please follow Droidstyle's excellent guide on how to restore back to stock. He has links to all the files you need. Look around for it
Also, before you do anything in Odin, look at the guide, and make sure your cable works. If the Odin reflash of the stock ROM doesn't work, try a different cable, and if that doesn't work, reinstall the Samsung drivers.
Yup. I plugged my cable into my computer(s) and held the volume down button and plugged it in. I've waited half a minute and nothing. I can still go into stock recovery.

so what is the exact recovery version that you are able to boot into
and what is the exact Rom name / version that boots up
lets at least start with the above information 1st
edit::: some other options are
adb reboot download,
or use a terminal to "reboot download"
...
you may be looking at the unbrickable mod found here
or a
Jig - This is a tiny Frankensteinian device made of a small chip, a transistor, and the tip of the little micro-USB connector that you plug into your phone to charge it or attach it to your computer. When your phone will not go into download mode through normal means, putting a jig into the phone when the battery is in will make your phone go into download mode. You can make one yourself or buy one online for less than $10.
.
This is the recovery i get into. :
Android system recovery <2e>
Samsung Recovery Utils
- for BML -
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

I have a jig. The I turned the phone off, plugged in the jig, and nothing.
And more. The phone doesnt charge the battery. I use a seperate accessory to charge the battery. The phone reads that it has a USB in since it says on the status bar.
So what didnt work for me were :
Jig method
Volume down ( no battery ) plugging into PC
Volume up down ( with battery ) plugging into PC
Volume Down ( plug in battery after pressing Vol. Down ) plugging into PC
so it won't go into download mode, even with a jig? sounds like your friend killed his/her fascinate. but you can make them feel better by advertising it as a coaster.

Bricked x829 by flashing - Can be restored?

Hi, guys
Flashed the unofficial Lineage 14.1 and by mistake SuperSUClassic for 6.0. Now it is bricked
No bootloader, just 2 buzzes after 10 sec when you pressing the power button.
Are there any means to restore the boot record?
Try to keep Vol Up and press Power button to go to recovery. Or if not, at least into Fastboot with Vol Down and Power. Once you are in TWRP, you know what to do.

You cant brick a qualcomm device. Like said above, just put the CPU in qdloader mode. It will flash directly to the nand memory.
Started flashing , but accidentally USB cable got disconnected - now can't quit the QFL mode, probably bricked it finally, Still waiting for the battery to discharge

If the above doesn't work, why don't you flash it again? Still your into the QFL mode.
