[Q] XPERIA S overheating and lags a lot - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

My device is overheating and works very slow after that. It happens after 7-10 minutes of use ,no matter which app(it can be Subway Surf and a heavy game like Asphalt 7). It is very annoying ,the phone works so slow and I cant play games...
God ,it is dual core device and I feel like I have my old xperia play

Is it on the latest 2.50 firmware?

Have u rooted your phone if it still lags................
Then
1)download cpu tuner
2)open it go to cpu
3) near gov select boot settings
4) then in option force all cpu select on boot completed
I did on my phone and its very fast but heating issues are not solved yet....
NOTE {{{{{{{{forcing all cpus online results in lower battery back up}}}}}}}}

I have a fix but the fix is for keeping your phone performance whether the phone is hot! Nothing can't be done to solve heat issue if u want to have a good performance!
The system is design to reduce heat once the cpu temperature is 55 Degree centigrade! It will clock ur cpu frequency to 810mhz to cool down the phone, but produce lag during game play or scroll!
However we can manage to change the point where it clocked down cpu frequency to whatever you like!
I've change mine to 65 degree then it will clock down the cpu!
To do it is to go to system/etc look for thermald-semc.conf
Modify through root explorer:
Iook for this
[MSM_THERM]
sampling 10000
thresholds 49 52 55 58 70
thresholds_clr 45 50 53 56 68
actions lcd lcd cpu lcd shutdown
action_info 192 128 810000 64 0
I've changed mine to:

thresholds_clr 45 50 63 56 68

action_info 192 128 810000 64 0
It will no longer laggy once it hot! Until ot reaches 65 degree! It may be dangerous!
But so far, nothing happen to me! And i can play temple run brave smoothly, while before it'll be laggy in 5mn of game play!
Don't forget to hit thank, if i deserve it!

I'll try it now ,thank you!
Edit: It really works!! The device is still very hot after few minutes of use ,but not laggy.
Thanks a lot!

But it shouldn't be hot. Flash the latest firmware, if you already have, flash it again. Something maybe not right causing the issue

No! Only if you use ur device very hard and the temperature gain so high! It was design to clock down to 810mhz in 53 Celsius to decrease temperature! But we've change tov 63! So the device could get hotter than 53 and could go as high as 63 before clock down! To decrease temperature!

I think it will be fine since there's an automatically switch off at 68-70! So 65 is in the safe zone but i don't know abt any long term effect!

In ICS good but cant change in JB update
I am using Xperia SL.
As you told I changed the threshold values while I was using ICS. But after updating to Jelly Bean I cant edit the file thermald-semc.conf. I can edit the values but not able to save the file. So it always reset. I dont know why this is happening. Please help. And thanks for the suggestion as it worked nice for my ICS.

SGS3 battery overheating ? !!

Guys,
After buying I recharged my phone once.
Now even when I'm simply listening to music and using tapalalk, battery temps are at 43 degrees celsius.
When doing back to back speedtests it went to 47 deg cel.
The lower portion of phone becomes hotter.
I'm really worried.
Can you guys give your battery and phone temps ?
Ps : use cool tool software.

I have no problem what so ever, played Dungeon defenders and GTA III today and it did not get more than 35 degree celcius. The phone do heat a bit up when it charge, but no higher than 35 degree... I did not play and charge the phone at the same time.
(however dungeon defenders did actually lag a bit :O, must be the game that is pooly optimised).
I tried stress testing the phone by playing an hd video using popup play and running shadowgun at the same time, and the battery only reached 39 deg. celcius.
I've setup some battery temperature warning events at 40, 44, 48, and 50 degrees and only my lowest one has ever triggered. Highest I've seen the battery is 42 degrees.
So you guys think its a defective battery ?
Or it needs 3 to 4 recharges to come to that optimal temperature ?

I think weather / room temperature play a big part here. In hotter environments phone temperature during idle or use would naturally be higher than in colder ones. Pretty sure it's quite warm in Bangalore this time of year.

you can better try switching off the mobile, pullout the battery and turn it on after a few minutes. also check the cpu usage, you may have installed some app which might be continuously running in the background

Did not workout. Issue still exists.
No background process running. No cpu hogs.
One more thing I noticed : the battery temp raises to 47 only when there is lot of activiy ln the chipset (either 3g downloads or cpu activities which causes it to clock at 1.4 ghz more often). Where as on sgs2 if i apply the same load its 35 deg. I tried it on sgs2 and measured the temp.
The battery temp most of the time is 40 deg, thats what bothering me.

M planning to return my phone because of this overheating.
Just 5 mins played the game and battery temp raised from 30 deg cel to 44 deg cel.
Suggestions pls.
Samsung dealer says that i've 4 days. Within 4 days if i find any problems i can get a letter from nearest samsung service center and upon seeing that letter he will immediately give me a new phone.
I do not know what will happen if i ask for a refund of money.

I changed the battery. Battery temp is well under 40 deg under regular browsing with music player playing in bkground.
Under heavy gaming under A.C. temp stays still at 40 deg.
I'm ok with these readings.
Now m gonna undervolt the phone also underclock cup and gpu and see how the temps turnaround.

59 degrees Celsius too hot for CPU

When I first got my phone and put a case on it just browsing the web got it up to 59 degrees Celsius or 138.2 degrees Fahrenheit. I looked at some other threads and people said that 60 degrees Celsius is nothing for a CPU, but then other people are saying that it can fry the CPU. Now that I have restarted the device the phone stay much much cooler. I just want to know what a dangerous temp is? Some people say that damage can occur around 60-80 degrees and other people say they have had their cpus hit 90-100 degrees Celsius.

I'm assuming you mean Fahrenheit. I would say 90 - 100 degree is normal-high when running games or heavy applications. Really when web browsing/idle 60 - 80 would seem like the average.
Edit: I see your calculations now. No, 138 browsing the web is not normal - And beings that the boiling point of water is 100 degree Celcius, that certainly is not acceptable.

nope celcius. mine idles at about 93 degrees Fahrenheit.
Edit: Ok, thats what I thought. It didn't stay there long and a restart seems to have corrected things. Do you think that could have damaged it? I just imagine it was a app hogging resources, maybe just chrome being buggy.
with that said the thermal shutdown point for the nexus is 110 degrees celcius, however it starts throttling the clock speed at 60 degrees. some people have claimed to have got it there.

CPU has 68 oC after 15 minutes of playing

My 2 days old Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4, after 15 minutes of playing 3D game (War Robots) reaches very high temperature. It is very uncomfortable to hold it in hands. I measured with app that CPU temp is 68 but battery 40 degrees Celsius (which is 154.4 and 104 F).
Are these temperatures standard? Or should I complain it to Huawei?

Hey..i have the m5 8.4 since 2month now and i can say that you dont complain to huawei......for me it is the only negative thing of this device.......dont worry that it could overheat...........using it intensive for playing games and until now heat doesnt harm my system.........
ps....hope the gpu turbo bost feature in the coming update will help us.....

Peak CPU temp under load.

Hi, what is the normal peak CPU temperature for the phone? Mine is going above 90 on the antutu stess-test. I feel it pretty hot around the back camera. Is this normal or my unit is faulty? Thank you.
Is that degree fahrenheit or degree celsius?
Hi, it is Celsius. Please note this is the CPU temp. The battery temp was in low 40s at that time.
Could anybody please run the 15 minute Anutu stress-test and check where the CPU temp goes in Celsius? Thanks!
I've seen several videos on YouTube, the temperatures never raise above 45 degrees celsius, even after an our of playing PUBG. So I think there's definitely something wrong with your device.

It's odd but I have bad experiences with the older 800 series of Snapdragons. I'm still holding off Pocophone for the SD636 or SD660 until I'm sure it doesn't lead to me frying an egg with the phone after playing for 30 minutes.

Playing youtube 4k video and the CPU is around 40c as well. Please note these are CPU temps I am talking about, not the battery temp which is in low 40s when the CPU goes above 90.
If possible please run the antutu stress-test for a couple of minutes and advise on the peaks. Thanks!
Just played pubg for 20 min on the default settings - CPU temp peaked at 46 C. I guess this is normal but why does it spikes in 90s on the antutu stress test...
Run Antutu test again 264k, temp spiking in 80s here in there at the end was 33 C.
Please advise if this sounds normal.

That 80c spike has got to be erroneous. That's 176F, which would melt the back cover and everything else inside.
yes it is true
I have the same experience. Run antutu and watch the temps using CPU float when it starts the CPU benchmark. Boy, it went all the to 95 C then goes back to 60 and 90 until the cpu part is finished. While gaming, this wont happen as the cpu will throttle depending how hot the battery temps. I posted the thread here at https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/how-to/phone-throttles-cpu-gpu-t3839525 so you can see the effect of battery temps on cpu performance.
My question is more like how antutu's cpu test really stress the phone. I run HWBot with cpu float and the maximum temp i was able to get was like 70-75 C while antutu can shoot the cpu up to high 80's to 90's in even cold phone state.
I think it is due to the fact that most of the companies optimise their software in such a way that the benchmarking apps consume the full CPU usage regardless of thermal throttling. OnePlus did this with their phones. My old leeco phone had the same optimization that it automatically utilized full CPU power in benchmarking apps. So I think similar is the case with Xiaomi's Poco f1
Poco F1 cpu temperature reaches 96 °C in Antutu

Mine too.It goes up to 96 C , then 60+., 70+ then again 96 degrees Celsius in Antutu stress test.
And in heavy apps goes beyond 60 °C.
I bought the phone from Romania, where I live.
I have a different problem, i too use poco f1, my benchmarks are around 4500 at 36 degree celcius wheras it is 8000 at 30. So is it the same with everyone?

Pubg throttling issue.

Any expert here who look at my comment i need help regarding Pubg mobile, throttling at 43 degree c cpu, battery 43 degree c from kernel auditor app,but games like shadowgun legends at ultra graphucs 60 fps,nba 2k 19 max graphics but they didnt throttle at all even at extreme temp 50 degree bateery 49 degree cpu, what is the reason behind this, ofcourse pubg run smooth but when it reach that temp i mentioned it start to throttle badly, please how to solve thus i deleted thermal.config also doesnt help.
