Hi,
I'm new to the smartphone in general and android in particular.
I have Samsung galaxy SII i9100XXLPS.
Recently I have changed my network provider from Cellcom Israel to Golan Telecom which is a new carrier that builds its network from scratch. Mean while, its rides the existing network of Cellcom.
The problem is that although the data roaming is enabled (as the carrier demands), I keep getting the data roaming alert ("you have lost your data connectivity...") and I can't get internet.
Phone details:
Android version:4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100XXLPS
Kernel version:3.0.15-I9100XWLP8-CL356487
Build number: Firefds-Vmobile.IML74K.XWLP8
I have also Nokia N86 with the same carrier, with no problem accessing internet.
I have switched SIM cards (between the Nokia and the Samsung) but the problem is still the same.
Other people I know on the same network have also galaxy (S2 and W) and they don't have this problem.
Thanks

It turns out that in the "APN type" field it was "Default" instead of "default"...

Hello,
Have tried searching xda-developers, google, and apps to no avail.
My SGS2 thinks I am roaming when I am not, so certain Apps will not work as they were intended.
Is there anyway and or app that would override the phone/sim to think I am not roaming.
Thanks in advance for any solutions.
There is a option in settings-wireless and network-mobile network... Data roaming, untick that, i do not know if it does anything for you, and maybe choose automatic network selection, according to sim... other than that, i wouldn't know... It is strange if its roaming all the time in a home network...
When un-checking Data Roaming the phone will no longer connect to Data services as it thinks it is Roaming.
If selecting the network or leaving it to automatic it makes no difference.
I had this same issue before with other phones and was hoping with Apps or Root Access I would be able to finally force the phone to think it was not Roaming.
Did you by any chance use same sim card on all of your phones ? if yes, contact you service provider, because no phone should think its roaming all the time. I doubt it its up to the phone, as apps go, i've haven't heard of any, but if i find anything i'll post it..
Yes I have used the same Sim. It is not one of the main local providers in Spain (Movistar, Vodafone, Orange) but rather Simyo which is owned by KPN (major Dutch company). Simyo only sells sim cards on the Internet and are extremely cheap.
I have checked with the service provider and it is something they force, in that Data connection will only work when phone is set to Roaming. Internet, and Skype works but Rebtel will not activate as it thinks I am roaming.
I have this same issue.
Just upgraded my SGSII (GT I9100M) from the stock Bell firmware to Android 2.3.6 XXKL1 Firmware. After the upgrade it thinks it's roaming when it isn't.
Hi all,
i bought a unlocked Galaxy Ace S5830 via amozon.ca for my friend in Toronto, and the phone has current following firmware: (it seems to be for region european)
Pda: s5830XWKPT
Phone: s5830XWKP7
Csc: s5830OXFKP3
Android 2.3.3
GINGERBREAD.XWKPT
Kernel 2.6.35.7-perf-CL469288 [email protected]#1
and my friend has a sim card from fido in the phone. And he has activated his data plan with Fido, but the phone just can not use 2G/3G.
Fortunately the phone works fine with voice phone, WIFI etc. except mobile data network. I'm afraid that the firmware of the Phone and CSC
are not fit for canada. As i searched in this forum, i found the information about Galaxy GT-S5830D with firmware S5830DTLSKI4,
So my questions are:
1: is it really not possible to get mobile network working in canada with current firmwares ?
2: can then the GT-S5830 be flashed with the firmware S5830DTLSKI4 of GT-S5830D?
3: Is the firmware S5830DTLSKI4 only for Network of Koodo/Telus, or it works also for FIDO?
thanks a lot for your helps in advance ...

only data is not working??
have you activated data in settings and checked apn settings??
settings might not be properly recognized
Yes, only data is not working. So i'm not sure now if it is modem issue or just APN setting issue. Does anyone here use S5830 from canada? which modem firmware do you have?

Hi, I am not sure if this will help you, but I have a Galaxy Ace GT-S5830D originally bought on the Koodo Network, but I unlocked it and am now running it on Fido with a Fido SIM card.
I too had problems connecting to data with Fido after unlocking, but you must enable data roaming for it to work.
Settings > Wireless and networks > Mobile Networks > Data Roaming
Also ensure your APN settings are set right.
APN Settings:
http://forums.fido.ca/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Smartphones/thread-id/768/page/4
Thread about enabling data roaming... seems to be a thing about Fido being on Rogers network:
http://forums.fido.ca/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Smartphones/thread-id/3502/page/1
Enabling data roaming fixed it for me, but I am not sure if this will help you since you have a GT-S5830 while I have a GT-S5830D.
Hope this helps.
Hi, thank you so much for your helpfully information. With your information my friend can use the data networking provided by FIDO now with his GT-S5830! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANT YOU!
But only connects with 2g right?
I use my SGA with the Rogers networks and I can only connect with 2g data. My understanding is that 3g is only possible in Canada with the SGA on the Mobilcity and Wind networks due to the limited frequencies the SGA can use for 3g.

I was told my Unlocked SGA couldn't run on AWS networks like Wind and Mobilicity.
As for only 2G? Umm... who told you that? I honestly don't know about the frequencies and such, but my 3G icon in my status bar lights up all the time and honestly, my SGA downloads speeds are faster than my Nexus S which was bought from FIDO.
Recently I switched provider, I went from T-mobile to Simyo. Simyo is a dutch low budget provider. Furthermore I have a galaxy s2 with the following custom rom: CriskeloRom V38
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168836&page=725
The problem is that I am not able to get data connection. I entered all the apn settings correctly if I am right. I even called simyo helpdesk and checked all the apn settings with a coworker.
So, my question is: Might it be the problem that the custom rom makes it impossible to set up a data connection? (I have to ad that with t-mobile I was able to use data).
Any help would be much appreciated! Thx in advance
I have to add that there is also no data symbol in the status bar and that the data connection and roaming settings are enabled.
Anyone?

The way your question is worded, you'd be better off asking in the thread for CriskeloRom specifically.
That said, without knowing for sure, I'd guess Simyo doesn't use the same UTMS bands for data as T-Mobile, and may not actually be compatible with this phone? I don't know. Does your co-worker also have a GT-I9100 on Simyo?
Though, you should at least get Edge. But I'm not even in Europe, so I'm just guessing.
(noob, non-techie here) I picked up an MB860 (2.3.6 - 4.5.141) before coming to Vietnam. (I guess I needed the ME860.) Now that I'm here, neither Viettel nor Vinaphone can get the "data to work" (any G) over their networks (wifi does work & can make phone calls). I've monkeyed around with the phone settings including the *#*#4636#*#* wcdma/gsm/etc. settings to no avail. The phone is currently unlocked (factory) and unrooted/stock. Anyone know if there's a way to get this model to work here via the standard settings, new firmware, or rooting? Any help appreciated.
I'm currently in Vietnam and using an rooted AT&T one, running TopSmart 1.3. It work like a charm without any change on baseband, so I guest you don't have to worry.
Your phone is a Korean version or AT&T ? Are you in Hanoi ? May be I could give some helps.

Hey,
It's an AT&T purchased in the US. I'm not in Hanoi - too bad for me
Based on the specs, and what I've seen about Viettel & Vinaphone frequencies (I guess), this model should work. Being an AT&T phone, on eof the setting selectors is "greyed out" which won't let me select a network. I'm thinking that may be the hitch. I'm a noob so I don't Know what TopSmart is. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

TopSmart is a cook rom. Don't mind.
So in general, you can call (and text also) but no data connection, right ? In US (or wherever your previous country), data connection still ok, the problem have occured just in time you arrived in Vietnam ? Have you changed anything in your phone's setting ? Have you register the 2G/3G service with the mobile network provider (Mobiphone, Viettel or Vinaphone - which you still using) ? - It's importance !
Because you can call, I guest your network setting is alright. Try to go to System setting ~> Wireless and network settings ~> Mobile network and check on the box Data enabled (on top of the screen). Restart your device if required, and then open your browser, connect to google.com for testing.
If it didn't help, please take a screenshot of the Mobile network settings screen and attacht here for more reference.
Best regards.
P/s: please answer all my question for providing me as much information as you could. And finnaly, tell me the name of your mobile network provider in Vietnam you currently using. It could helps.

Corect (call text no data)
Correct (worked in US)
No changes in settings other than APN for viettel and vinaphone
Registered 3G service (had viettel and vinaphone techs try and install 3g sim)
My "Data Enabled" is found under a different menu _Battery and data manager_ Data is enabled. Settings-> Wireless & network settings->Mobile networks->Select network (greyed out - option there to toggle/select but not allowed)
Will try and get screenshot.

Find your networks apn settings, save them in setting-mobile networks and reboot phone. And/or flash a new radio, theres several threads with archives/advice about which to use.

Sounds carrier side (& in the absence of any great amount of detail from you). Either coverage where you're using the phone isn't up to scratch...Or...Phone is IMEI blocked or some kind of block on the phone by the carrier. In the first instance, call them & ask if there's any issue from their end.
Edit - Speaking of the IMEI, check the IMEI in settings/about phone/status Vs the box/documentation that came with the phone. If you don't have it, if the IMEI in phone settings begins with 0049...., that's your problem. Whatever you do, do not post your actual IMEI here if it's OK, just confirm whether it begins with 0049...or not.

Hello there. I'm having this problem. No matter what ROM I flash, I get either mobile network not available or not registered on network. And I check what you said. The IMEI is different from as written on the phone and when I check it in about phone. And it starts with 0049. Can you tell me what's the actual problem here? and do you know how to fix it? Plz reply asap. Even flashing back the stock rom gives me the same problem.
