OK so I was messing around with my wife's iPhone 4S and found that you can set the LED to strobe for notifications. Would it be possible to implement something like this for our i717? And I say like this loosely because I don't want anyone getting in trouble with apple, lord knows they probably have a copyright... TIA!

It is probably possible.. I personally don't understand the necessity of it though, when BLN control exists.

Not really a necessity per say, just thought it would be different. Thanks for the response.

that would be cool, but what if u're away from your phone and havent notice the LED flashing? i'm pretty sure it will eat the battery quick lol unless the LED has a time to turn off in afew secs....but yeah is possible to get the LED has notification
That's a good point!on my wife's phone it flash a pattern for normal notification ie. Txt , e-mail... and strobes fast for incoming calls but then turns off after the call is answered or goes to voice mail. And for the notification s it flashes the pattern like 2 or 3 times then stops...

I searched and didn't see any threads related to this yet, so please forgive me if this has been covered. Is there a way to adjust the brightness of the LEDs behind the 4 buttons on the bottom of the Vibrant? I have seen this touted as a positive feature in articles comparing the Vibrant to the Captivate, but I'd actually rather they were dim or have their brightness linked to the screen brightness setting.
Cheers.

Where did you read that?
I've never heard of this until now and I'm a regular on XDA. Love your idea though
I edited the OP without re-reading and before submitting and it may have resulted in some confusion. It is a fact that the buttons are brighter on the Vibrant than on the Captivate. I have read at least one comparison article where this was touted as a positive feature (although I've also read where it was called out for being distracting, as it is for me). I did not mean that I had read anywhere that the brightness could indeed be adjusted on the Vibrant.
Not sure how you interpreted the OP, but thought I should clarify anyway.
I think there are two options here:
1) The Captivate uses a fixed resistor to limit the brightness of the LEDs
2) The Captivate simply takes advantage of a programmable VRM to limit the brightness of the LEDs
If it's option 1, well ... ****
But if it's option 2, I REALLY hope somebody figures out a way to access it.
I think if someone had figured how to access it w would have a LED notification by now.

Not exactly. Flashing a chip once to use a different voltage at all times is not the same as interfacing with it to allow for flashing notifications.

BLN Control Pro - anyone using it on Vibrant? How reliable is it? Does it reduce battery life much?
I'm using it for months, didn't feel much of an impact on battery life.

I get text messages every couple of minutes but the only ones I really want to be notified for are my friends and family. Is there a way to only have it blink for certain people?

There isn't currently a setting to be able to do that, if it's even possible. You could always try to contact the dev and ask him if it's a possibility.
Yes, the blinking action is well worth the $1.

I'm using it and the blinking actions is sweet! It doesn't affect the battery too much.
I haven't used it since moving to GB, which has a BLN built in.

I was just about to say this. Pretty much every Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich ROM has a BLN built in to it. I find it pretty helpful. I mean, it's the same as an LED notification light on other handsets... seeing as how the lights in our capacitive touch buttons are LEDs. When it's silent, it's nice to have a visual... or, when I play Battlefield 3, I play it pretty loud... so, I miss the text message tone, but see my phone light up. It's nifty. As far as battery goes, I haven't noticed any significant drops. I get great battery life.

My bad, I don't even remember how much it cost cause I bought it a longggg time ago and still use it to this day.
You know I used to use BLN, then I took an arrow in the knee.

lol, do you live in dog years?
For those that are running a GB or ICS ROM, I dont see the option to *blink*. I am running Passion ICS ROM and under Settings->Display, "Pulse notification light" is an option but it doesnt actually pulse/blink the lights.
Anyone else have this issue?
Hi,
Since I have updated to ICS (DXLP7), I have not once heard the battery full-charge sound. Has anybody else noticed this too? I kinda liked the notification... and would remove the phone from charger based on the cue.
Is there any way to bring it back?
I checked by playing some sounds in /system/media/ui, the sound file is present by the name of /system/media/ui/TW_Battery_caution.ogg. Only it doesn't seem to play on 100% charge anymore, even though the notification appears!
Thanks
I miss the alert since moving to ICS too. Definitely better for most people with it not being there, but would have liked to see it as an option.
I set up Tasker to play the alert on battery full - not the same (especially if you don't have Tasker), but was the easiest way for me.
There are many battery app from play store which provides this functionality
Lol, few months back people were getting crazy that this thing messed with their sleep and want to get rid of it....now....... Humans don't get Happy with anything!

Its a thing with ICS
I think samsung removed it.....I was searching for the same answer and to see if only me or anyone else
If only they would do the same for the critical battery levels. They never really help the situation by constantly vibrating and making sound.
It's so funny, before ICS, every one was like....
hey how to remove this mid night alarm ****.
Now Samsung removed it... Now
Hey how to get that back.

Has anyone had any flickering issues with their screens on the GSIII?
I have an ATT version GSIII. Auto brightness is turned off and for the most part the screen seems fine. It comes in nice and bright!
So I was writing a SMS and I notice a very quick screen flicker. It then did it again when I fired up Scramble with friends. It happens every now and then. Could this be a software issue? Anyone got any advice about this? Should I do a hard reset from the phone and set it back to factory? Its annoying at times so I am wondering if I was the only one with this issue.
Thanks for any advice or feed back!
Mine has done that on more than one occasion. Usually in Google Chrome but it has happened in the XDA app as well.
Usually clearing out the multitasking menu makes it stop for me.
Also on an ATT S3

No its only on about half way. I have also reset the phone and it did not seem to fix the issue. Its just annoying. I cant tell if its software (like a bug in the system.) or if it could be a hardware issue. Some others said they have noticed it but I do not find to many posts about it yet.
I have had this issue on my SGS2 since the ICS update. Can you guys tell me if the SGS3 has the same line and blotchy screen issues as the SGS2 does in lower light and darker screen like when playing games or watching movies.

It seems to mostly do it in the stock messaging app. I have changed my app to Go SMS Pro to test this idea. But yes I might be a normal thing. Its just a slight flicker. Its not like the screen shuts off then back on. Just flashes in front of you mostly. With auto brightness on or off.
Mine flashes in the stock messaging app also.

I think it is the stock messaging app that makes the screen flicker. I have changed to GO SMS PRO and no flicker yet. I will keep an eye on it and report back in a few days! Also feel free to chime in!
I always have my phone set to auto brightness, I don't think it ever goes fully bright. The times I've noticed the flickering was indoors in a dim room so I'm sure the brightness was very low.
The flickering appears for a second or so then goes away. Kinda like a tv when the connection is bad, black lines come across the screen and it flickers

Mine flickered today once on Dolphin HD and, oddly, just now while I'm typing this on Tapatalk. What keyboard are you all using? I'm using SwiftKey 3. My brightness is hardly ever on auto; I feel it sets it too high.
You know I never thought about that. I use the SwiftKey 3 also. Maybe thats the issue?
I haven't seen it all night. I switched to GO SMS PRO today. It seems to play nicely to far!
my experience is that it only happens if you're typing. problem I noticed happens if you're using a different keyboard other than the stock one? I was using smarter keyboard and it occasionally flashes. But I switched back to stock keyboard and it seemed to stop flashing for the day I was using it.
For me it only happens when on the tabs page in Chrome.

Blanks out
I don't know about flicker but I was in the middle of a call today with some annoying machine and i had to "press 1 for English" anyway, when I went to type in an actual number my whole screen went black several times while I was in the call...
Anyone else with this problem? Stock, LF9, not even a week old.
Never seen it, but the first thing I did was install GoSMS
My screen flickers from time to time n its quite annoying lol

So is anyone experiencing screen flickering using the stock keyboard? I'll swap to it tomorrow and test it myself. You guy's, or gals, do the same and post back your experiences in the afternoon or evening.

ATT has none is stock yet. I mean the good news here is its pointing to be a software issue. I like this because otherwise my phone is perfect. I disabled my stock messaging app and I have not seen the flicker sense. But its only been 24 hours. However I will keep you all posted. I still use SwiftKey 3. As I hate the stock keyboard.
