[Q] How to flash recovery with Hboot locked and S-off - HTC EVO 3D

Hello. I have a GSM Evo 3d, 1.53.0007 hboot (unlocked via HTC Dev), after that S-OFF via JBEAR, now I'm on stock hboot locked with S-OFF. After that I can't install 4Ext. When I use fastboot i got info remote: not allowed (I supose that this is because I'm S-ON). Can I flash 4Ext directly in hboot? Does any1 have this recovery as a PG86IMG.ZIP? Or is there any other way to flash it? Cheers

JBear will leave the bootloader locked which will prevent most fastboot commands from running if you didn't choose the JuopunutBear bootloader when prompted by controlbear. If you don't have "JuopunutBear" at the top of your bootloader you can download the JBear custom bootloader for your phone and Android version (GB or ICS) from the unlimted.io website and install it using the instructions on that site, then you should be able to run the fastboot commands needed for flashing.

There's 2 simple ways to do this, depending on whether you want jb hboot or not.
Regardless of whether you want it or not, download the correct hboot for your device from here: http://unlimited.io/downloads/hboots/
If you want to change your hboot from ***LOCKED*** to =Juopunutbear= :
then rename your recovery image to "recovery.img" & drag-and-drop the recovery.img file onto jb_hboot.zip to add it to the zip
Then, use the commands given here to flash it: http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
If you want to keep your hboot as ***LOCKED*** :
then rename your recovery image to "recovery.img" & drag-and-drop the recovery.img file onto jb_hboot.zip to add it to the zip
Open the jb_hboot.zip file & delete the .nb0 file that might have a long name (something like"hboot_....nb0"
Then, use the commands given here to flash it: http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm

I've flashed Jbear hboot, everything works like a charm. Restoring my backup now. Thanks for fast answers.

:good: And there's a button for thanks mate

Can I use the same method to flash only bootloader (official 1.53.0007). This is what i thought about: extract hboot from ruu (hboot_SHR_U_1.53.0007_20120522_signedbyaa.nb0), add this to archive with android-info.txt and then use the same commands when I was flashing jbear hboot? Can I downgrade bootloader to 1.49.0007 using this method and will this hboot work well with ICS?

Unroot help please!!

So I rooted using revolutionary.io tool on hboot 1.40.1100 and now have to unroot it. From what I have gathered the way to do it is to flash the full ruu 1.13.651.7 PG86IMG.zip file through the hboot. Is this right? And if so does anybody have a link to the full ruu zip??
Thanks
Download the appropriate RUU version for your region here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208485 run the .exe and follow the onscreen instructions.
to change s-off to s-on in fastboot (cmd) type "fastboot write secureflag 3"

Cheers
You have to unlock bootloader and flash twrp with fastboot. You can use Regawmod but people have been having issues with it. If you go to HTC Dev and sign up the instructions are pretty well written. When you finish unlocking download twrp from the TeamWin website and flash it just like unlock_code.bin but type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or whatever the image file is named. Then flash a rom. The kernel has to be installed separately or you can use a rom with a kernel installer like meanrom

Yes, there is flash gui, fastboot, and htc dumlock. Some roms like mean have a kernel installer built in

HTC Flyer stuck on boot

Hi!
I've updated to honeycomb 3.2.1 and everything worked fine. Then I decided to unlock bootloader using HTCDev site and root it.
Everything went ok and flyer was working until I decided to flash custom ROM (Cool 3D Honey and later LeeDroid).
After following the install guide device is stuck in a boot loop. It's booting to the "desktop" screen and then reboots over and over again.
Same happened with LeeDroid rom.
How can I get it working again? No matter which rom - just to make it work.
I can only boot into fastboot/recovery now.
hboot 1.11
S-ON
rooted
Please help
You need to flash the boot.img using fastboot. This needs to be done everytime you flash a custom ROM. Otherwise, you have no kernel (or kernel is mismatched for the ROM you are on). This is one of the downsides to having S-On versus S-Off (and with you hboot version, there is no S-on, as you likely already know).
To flash boot.img using fastboot:
- On your computer, use a zip program (Winzip, WinRAR, etc.) to open the ROM zip.
- Extract boot.img, and put it in the same folder that you have fastboot.exe (which you should alreay have if you are bootloader unlocked).
- Connect the Flyer to your computer via USB, put phone into fastboot mode
- Open command prompt on computer
- Change directory in command prompt to the folder where you have fastboot.exe
- Use following command to flash boot.img:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
- Reboot phone after flash is complete, and it should boot properly
Also, make sure you are trying to flash on HC, ICS, or JB based ROMs. GB based custom ROMs require GB hboot. Since you are only bootloader unlocked (not S-Off) I don't believe you can downgrade hboot (at least not easily). So I think you are stuck on HC, ICS, and JB ROMs (no GB ones).

Thanks for your effort.
I've followed the procedure you described above but still no luck for Cool 3D honey or LeeDroid (HC) ROMS. However, I was able to flash Virtuous ROM yesterday and Flyer is working. Only bug I noticed for now is that I can only power it down through fastboot > powerdown because standard/software power down option is not working (probably ROM bug or something).
BTW, should I follow this guide to downgrade to GB? Can I expect this to work?

I think this is what you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070140
The linked RUU thread in the guide is obsolete (dead/deleted download links). But the method seems to be valid, if you can find the RUU for your version.
i have same scenario with the you dude
HC
s-on
1.11 hboot
i want to flash this Cool3dhoney, but the thread said that i must have proper radios and hboot, dunno what's the proper radio and hboot

Honeycomb ROM requires a HC hboot. So if you are already on HC, you are already on one of the correct hboot versions. I don't think that radio will make much difference, and the one you are on is probably fine..
Since you are S-on, you must manually extract boot.img and flash from fastboot as I instructed in post #2 above. That is probably the reason why you can't boot. The kernel will not flash in recovery with S-on. So your kernel is currently mismatched with the ROM.

How do I make my phone ready for custom rom that needs s-off and hboot 1.49.xxxx

Hi
My friend gave me his old HTC Evo 3D gsm. And I want to install a custom rom on it (CM 10.2 hopefully).
But it requires HBOOT: 1.49.xxxx and S-OFF
My phones is atm running stock ICS and has S-Off, (re)locked and Hboot 1.53.0007.
How can I get HBOOT: 1.49.xxxx and S-OFF?
ps: I know how to unlock bootloader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906172
#1, Download zip (IN POST 2)
#1, Simply place the pg86img.zip on root of sd,
#3, Boot into bootloader and run the update
#4, Follow onscreen instructions
it will flash the bootloader, reboot, then flash splash img , then reboot
and your now in hboot 1.49.0007

After doing the above, make sure you have a custom recovery installed (4EXT preferably) and make a nandroid backup. then wipe data and caches and flash any rom you want
It requires root first. How do I get that?

How did you gain s-off while still on hboot 1.53.0007???
I was locked, s-on and on hboot 1.53.0007 (stock rom)
- 1st unlock with htc-dev method
- 2nd install 4ext touch recovery (recommended for almost all custom roms)
- 3rd s-off with this method, then you have hboot 1.53.7777 s-off
- 4th flash hboot 1.49.0007 in bootloader
For step 4 put the zip file to the root of sdcard, boot into bootloader and wait until bootloader recognizes the zip and asks you for update.
Afterwards if you reboot once more into bootloader you'll see ***locked***, but thats only a fake lock!
For root simply flash a file called something like "Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip" (google it) in recovery, but that's not necessary if you plan to flash a custom rom.
I think you are getting confused by this step: #1, Simply place the pg86img.zip on root of sd
you do not require root for this, it means you have to place the zip file on your sdcards root. not in any folder

I'm guilty of just asking "are you s-off" too, but this isn't actually sufficient. Users need to be s-off AND either unlocked or using the engineered bootloader to be able to flash boot images through recovery. Some users might be s-off but have locked bootloaders and stock hboot if they ran an RUU at some point after going s-off. To the best of my knowledge, this tree summarizes what users can do in each state:
State of Phone: flashing capabilities
S-ON and Locked: none
S-ON and Unlocked: can flash recovery and boot images through fastboot only
S-OFF, Locked, and Stock HBOOT: can flash recovery and boot images through fastboot only (need to verify if this is even possible)
S-OFF, Locked, and Unlimited.io HBOOT: can flash recovery and boot images through either fastboot or recovery
S-OFF, Unlocked, and Stock HBOOT: can flash recovery and boot images through fastboot only (need to verify if flashing boot image through recovery is possible)
S-OFF, Unlocked, and Unlimited.io HBOOT: can flash recovery and boot images through either fastboot or recovery

I can confirm that stock hboot and s off flashes kernels fine for me, reason for me on stock hboot, most sense 5 ports end up killing my phone to a state where recovery is unreachable, this is my procedure if you wanna check:
I leave bootloader unlocked
Fastboot OEM rebootruu
Fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
Then fastboot reboot-bootloader
And finally fastboot flash recovery twrp.IMG
Then I restore nandroid
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda app-developers app
I think i got it figured out. My bad lol I think I was flashing gapps with it lol I'm so used to having to flash Gapps with JB ROMs.:good:
