It does not work by default but you can always have it by installing a third party video that supports H/w acceleration.
Dice player and BSplayer are good example. both decode video using H/W acceleration, videos therefore look very clean and uses less battery just as in Samsung ROMs.

Aosp and hd video

Due to my dissapointment with the se 2.1 update and the poor audio performance I am now looking at rooting and installing aosp 2.2 when it reaches beta stage. I was just wondering though will this os include 720p video recording?

Tablet Tweaks for RC2?

Anyone know if this can be ported into some of our experimental mods or gingerbread?

lol...click on your link, go to the original thread and download the gTab/Harmony edition...it's the tweaks that he's been developing over top of a Ginger core but it's still a full ROM...Download, wipe all, flash, wipe dalvik, reboot and wait...initial boot takes a while..
Ahhh beautiful. Thanks. Is it pretty stable?

I have no complaints
Also no complaints on the tablet tweaked stuff. Running very well.
Corwins Tweaked CM7 RC4Beta2 has the tablet tweaks incorporated also (as an alternative if you want the tablet tweaks..)
Just installed it on a friend's nook and it's running great. I'll probably be switching to it from Vanilla AOSP Gingerbread.
the only gripe about it that i have is that it wont play videos. but from what i seen no gingerbread roms can play videos. untill there is a fix or if anyone knows of one besides using rockplayer or another software decoding app i think im going to have to stick with vegantab. But i do love the softkeys

I believe they are talking about hardware accelerated playback. I don't think any of the gingerbread based roms support hw acceleration currently.

ahh, yeah...ok...yeah, it's not the best of playback in some videos without the hardware acceleration, but it's hardly noticeable the majority of the time...
when i go to play my mp4's they wont even open at all. I would have to open them in rockplayer and software decode them whic isnt even watchable because of how choppy they are. maybe if i convert them to a different format any ideas?

[Q] Best ROM for YP-G70 (Working Camera & Hardware Acceleration)?

Hi,
I'm fairly new to the community and to the aspect of modding my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 (YP-G70) US.
I've done a great deal of searching for my answers but no results yet. I need to speed this up so I'm asking for your help!
My Device's History:
Stock: Gingerbread OS
Current: CM9's ICS (CyanOgen)
Everything worked perfectly fine on Stock but I got bored and wanted to explore my options and see just what features I was missing out on.
Besides, I feel any Android device should rightfully be able to update to the latest firmware, much like Apple's IOS or Sony's PSP (I think I just dated myself).
I absolutely love CM9 but it has two very fatal (and apparently common) flaws:
Broken Camera
No Hardware Acceleration
These are two huge problems for me as I depend on my camera to record life's precious moments; I'm huge on that.
Google Chrome requires Hardware Acceleration or it will just display white screens and nothing more. So I'm missing out on what I see as the best browser.
My Question: What is the best ROM out there for this device (YP-G70) that includes a working Camera and Hardware Acceleration?
If you can at least provide me this, I'm fairly certain I can figure out the rest.
Thanks very much for any input, I look forward to getting to know this community!
(The App is AMAZING!)

is rendering videos in hardware not h/w acceleration?
GingerBread doesn't have HW Acceleration on any ROM?
I've grown attached to the ICS look. Are there any GB ROMs out there that have the ICS theme? I'm strongly considering Chip v1.5, any thoughts or recommendations?
I'm also noticing some ROMs don't include a kernel. Which kernel is best for my device? I thought "Daily Driver" was the right one (US) but I have the dedicated hard-home button so it advises an International kernel instead...which makes no sense. And I can't find another kernel so far. Any thoughts?
I guess I'm trying to optimize my YP-G70 whilst trying to maintain an ICS look. Is that possible?
Edit: What do you think of Chip v1.5 ROM + rj's custom kernel for my YP-G70(US)? Seems to work for me, is it the recommended build or..?
Chip's is slim and stylish. It's my daily ROM and it's fantastic. If you have the Int'l version with the physical home button, the you should use rj's kernel. If you have the capacitative home button, then you need Entropy''s kernel. The nice thing about rj's is that you'll be able to enable linux swap.

Based on a wiki about the device, if your model name is YP-G70 you have the US version. Yet I have dedicated buttons instead and "Daily Driver" kernel wouldn't work for me, so do I have International version?
So confusing.
Either way I setup the following: Chip ROM and RJ Kernel. I now have a working camera, a slight ICS feel, but not sure if I have hardware acceleration since the only way I knew to test that was Google chrome app - which now I can't install on this version of android...fantastic!
Google chrome as well as hardware acc. is a no go

I have chrome installed on CM10 and it is just an awerage mobile browser ,dolphin beta blows it away in every aspect, from speed to page compatibility..dont see why manu people cry about that..i bet when they install they want be using at all.
Not having hw hurts only if you ask me battery when you play video becausee its done on cpy.
I use chip rom ..like it the most.

Yea, I'm liking Chip ROM so far. Could use an overhaul and make it look more like ICS. Though I can't complain too much..
I'll just give up on Chrome then if it's that bad.
Thanks for all the help everyone~
If you like the ICS look and feel, you could always try IcyFusion, a gingerbread-based rom with an ICS theme. Unfortunately, it's no longer being developed, and the last version has to be flashed via Odin, and I could never get it to install properly (though other people have, apparently).
Another option is to install a third party launcher that has ICS themes available for it (GO Launcher was my favorite).
Finally, if you really like ICS, you could just wait for somebody to get the drivers working on it. I know a couple of devs are well on their way to getting the camera working, and bluetooth has already been fixed (though some people are still experiencing bugs and glitches from the patch).
For the 5.0 , Chip 1.5.1 is the best ROM by far , very smooth , fast , camera and HW acc. Works. Also some gameloft games seem to be not working on ICS Roms like Asphalt 6 , so thats another reason to be with GB till we get a fully working ICS/ JB ROM.

sorry im just trying to clarify something. so you're saying that you have US version with capacitive home button. but daily driver kernel doesn't work so u used rjs and it works? im asking cuz i have US version also but entropys isn't working for me.

It's not quite as simple as that. The number YP-G70 refers to the SGP 5.0 that was generally released to Western markets.
However, the North American version has all capacitive buttons. The European/non-North American Version (aka - International) has a physical home button.
I have the Korean version labeled YP-GB70.
It is identical to the International version (YP-G70) in appearance. I believe the camera is the only difference.
The Korean version has a 5.0megapixel camera.
In short, if you have a North American model, you need entropy512's kernel. If you have an international or Korean model you need rj's kernel!
Stock-based only
If you want a ROM with full HW Acceleration and fully working camera, you will need a stock based ROM. The best of these is probably the Eryigit ROM.

Yes. HW acceleration (not to be confused with GL in games) didn't exist until Honeycomb (but of course our player doesn't have that), and we don't have kernel support for it in ICS so far.
However, since ICS/CM10 doesn't have camera working, you're kinda stuck. But GB doesn't really need acceleration, so you'll probably be fine there if you need a camera.

Actually the galaxy s II had some hardware accelerated GB builds. I'm not sure whether it was stock or a custom rom though. Also I think the nexus s also had some form of Hw acceleration

[Q] Could someone suggest a ROM for me?

Hey guys, I'm looking for suggestions for a stable ROM with a good battery life. I'm not too interested in tweaks since it will mainly be for watching videos.
If you also don't need much features go for Omni 4.3.

Hi, Omnirom(15-Feb-2014) from kasper_h is playing youtube fine.I`ve look transformer transformation without too many lag. Was watchable.
good luck
If you don't mind a little beta head over here...

Also by kasper_h. It plays h264 content in SD ablolutely flawless and even 720p is smooth most of the time, both using MX player.
Galaxy task 14 slim.
Believe me, you could play YouTube HD video without a single lag just by using a honeycomb, neither ICS nor kitkat can play HD video smoothly.
