Which is the best method to root an unlocked galaxy S3? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300, and I'd like to know if you could help me out on getting proper instructions on how to get it rooted? I've read about using Odin3-v1.85.zip and CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.zip but I don't know if the method is outdated or what, thanks!

This forum is for Verizon. If you have the international version you should ask here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1563

Agreed. Moving there.

i used odin Version 3.0.4 and cf root 6.4. you'll find that on xda

HERE you'll find everything you need.
This metod isn't outdated. It works perfectly.

[Q] Some questions about rooting

Hi everyone
I am gonna buy a galaxy s3 this week and i want to know some things about rooting the device
I have worked with odin and i know how it works
And i used odin once to root my friends galaxy s.(using chainfire)
But for galaxy s,chaonfire created different pda files based on the region
But for this phone i saw that there is only one pda file (for all regions)
So here is my question:
Is this version of cf-root (the one for galaxys 3 i men)
Region independent? I mean won't i loose any languages?
And by the way, after rooting,is it possible to update the phone using kies or using ota updates?
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Ota no updates. Kies possible updates.Root information all in Development section.

Actually, Chainfire says in the first few posts of his CF root thread that it does support OTA (but will need to re flash CF root afterwards)

Thanks for your answer
But you didnt answer my first question
Is this version of cf root region free?
The S3 CF-root is for any firmware provided your phone is either GT-I9300 or GT-I9300T
All the info in the first two posts anyway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238

Cf root should work for your phone even on ics. At least that's what I've read but most people recommend flashing a stock jelly bean Rom and then rooting from there.

What problem you have to root?
I got a I9300T and all root options for the I9300 work fine. The only difference is that the T model is said to work better on the 850mhz frequency.
But please correct me if I am wrong.

I think the T model prefers the 850mhz, I'm not entirely sure, but the differences are minimal and any i9300 should work on the t model.
Yes there are roms specifically for I9300t which are really all about the radio.
Check out gharrington's 3minit rom in the Android dev section.

Help much appreciated.
The correct naming is the i9300.
Please use the search function, there is a universal root method.

Just download the Rom file from this thread. All you need is the pda file on odex version. Please flash using Odin. Instructions are elsewhere. Please make sure you read detailed instructions before using Odin otherwise you may end up with problems.
This will not increase the flash counter. Please note that this method only gives you root and no change in recovery (stock)

Help transferring from stock to rooted phone?

I have a completely stock AT&T S3 and am wanting to transfer all settings to a rooted and unlocked AT&T S3. I want to also get the latest Android for both phones and be able to unlock and root the stock phone after transferring everything.
Can anybody walk me through the steps for the above procedure?
I'm somewhat familiar with TWRP, less ADB and ODIN.
Thanks in advance for any help, I appreciate it.
Wrong forum this is I9300 see sticky top of the page .
