Skyfire has always been a browser with outstanding functionality, but when it came to appearance it always lagged browsers like Opera Mobile.
No more however, as version 1.5 brings a more attractive, finger-friendly browser that makes better use of our VGA and WVGA screens.
The latest version features:
* Full VGA Support. Skyfire now provides native support for the VGA and wVGA resolutions as seen on many recent Windows Mobile phones.
* Smooth Scrolling. Kinetic scrolling has been added to Skyfire. Flick and you will see that scrolling has become very smooth.
* Finger friendly UI. There are many UI updates to enable finger friendliness, increase the ease of use and add a bit of fun to the Skyfire experience. We updated as well the start page to be simpler-to-use with high-resolution devices
* Full screen mode. For touch screens we have a mode that will completely remove all UI elements from the screen to provide maximum visibility onto the page. Tap the bottom right corner to bring back the toolbar.
* Auto-Move text entry. This keeps any text entry box visible when the virtual keyboard is used. This convenient feature assures that web site forms are easy to use, in case the SIP (i.e., virtual keyboard) covers it.
* Latest versions of Flash 10 and Silverlight. 1.5 has been updated to the newest and most stable versions of both rich-media formats.
* Performance enhancements. Both Skyfire’s client and servers have been upgraded for faster, more responsive browsing.

Yeah its aight. For sure better then last version of skyfire but its still skyfire imo. Doesnt beat opera mobile 9.7 though, thats the shizzle right there! You can tell this is a wannabe right off the bat but doesnt even compare. Took me twice as long to get to this page on this version of skyfire compared to opera mobile 9.7. For skyfire lovers, theyll love this. For people who love opera mobile, theyll piss on this. For people who want a clean, sleek, fast windows based web browser, theyll easily choose opera mobile 9.7 over this, easily. Thanks for the info though, i still like to have 2 web browsers on my phone just as a backup and this is a good backup but not a replacement.
opera is too sluggish on my phone,so i'm using opera mini.but i'll still use skyfire for some flash game on facebook
Does anyone knows how to get megavideo working? When I tap on the red button, its redirects me to the advertising popup. After pressing the back button, the red button is still there and won't turn green.
I can't seem to scroll down to the bottom portion of A_C page to download S2U2 using Sky Fire. Wonder why. After install, the keyboard doesn't show too, until a soft reset.
Skyfire is on par with Opera now imho.
I always found the quality and speed lacking when compared to Opera, but I am quite impressed with this version.

Nu Hulu = Nu Bueno
I am unable to view hulu with this version...
Hulu says this video is not availble with your platform
Edit: I was able to watch vids on hulu with previous versions.
Even though Opera 9 / 10 are great, Skyfire is still very useful when it comes to flash / silverlight and browsing large websites on a slow connection. This new version works great on HD2, I just wished they would disable the big fonts as it is already readable without zooming on the large screen.
is there a way to make videos full screen?
Skyfire does not support Chinese text input......

The problem is that Hulu does not want Skyfire distributing content for them to mobile devices. Skyfire's mobile browser uses Skyfire servers to get content to your phone. Hulu has a problem with this and has blocked those servers from streaming video.
i have installed this and opera10 beta 2.
both are totally rocking.
fast, clear,
i love the fact skyfire is in vga now.
like somone else posted it is good to have both browsers.
both seem fast. not tried any flash stuff on opera.
but its good to be able to watch xhamster on skyfire and clearly. lol
I must be doing something wrong with Skyfire. I've been using it since very early in the beta phase, but it has always been very sluggish for me. Everyone talks about how fast it is, but I find it takes forever to render pages on my Fuze. Whenever I scroll down the page I get that little checkerboard pattern and it usually takes 5-15 seconds for the page to display. I find Opera much faster for all my web browsing.
And while the newest version is more touch friendly than past versions, Opera is much better on that front as well.
Skyfire won't replace Opera as my default browser... unless someone shows me how I can make it as fast as everyone says it is.
Wow! So many improvements! It's faster, handles flash more easily, new UI and above all: Flick scrolling... finally .
Would like to tryout, but download doesn't work on their site

[App][12/9/09] Skyfire Browser 1.5 [Full VGA Support] Very Nice
Download Here http://get.skyfire.com/ All Resolutions
I can't watch shows on
Can't watch my CSI Miami shows on blinkx.com
Can't play my Season 9 scrubs episodes from abc.com
No southparkstudios.com
No hulu.com
Youtube at the beggining of a video does not sync properly when watching a video even though I'm on wifi.
Same problem with Break.com and College Humor.
imdb trailers do not work also.
The checker board scrolling/loading of pages is really starting to annoy.
On the bright side they are way ahead of other phone browsers when it comes to playing flash/media on a webpage so 2 thumbs up to that.
But Opera will stay my as a my main browser until this is fixed.
From reading the messages here I thought this would be a good browser to try since it supports flash, javascript etc.
Except you cannot enter text in a flash text field, that function is not supported they say, maybe in future versions...
How moronic is that?
Uninstalled.
I've been using Skyfire since the early stages, the improvements of the new layout of this new 1.5 are very cool. But referred to the previous version i was using up until yesterday, it's way slower about displayin the page while i scroll it down. I've read some opinions of the web that say it could not be a problem of the new software itself, but it might be because of the very large amount of people that are tryin it out at the moment that slowed the Skyfire servers down. What's your opinion on it?
skyfire via wlan
Hello,
I tried skyfire 0.85 and 1.5... for WM.
Is it possible to go online via WLAN?
Every time I start skyfire it wants to connect via data service (Locating...).

Just wondering what are the benefits from opera 10 and default opera? I've seen a few people that don't like it but what are the actual differences, what's better and what's worse about it and overall is it worth switching to?
I think that Opera Mobile 10 has a better user interface and works faster and smoother than Opera 9.7. Opera 10 is more finger friendly: the drop down lists in Opera 10 are bigger and easier to operate than those in Opera 9.7, which are better used with a stylus. Opera 10 doesn't support pinch to zoom and there is only 1 level of zoom, which means you can't zoom in as much as you want like you can in Opera 9.7. In the past, I have had issues with Opera 10 on my HD2 where it would lock up the phone if I left it running the background.
You can launch both browsers from the Sense UI (assuming they are the default browser), but you can't add favourites in Opera 10 in Sense as far as I'm aware.
Overall, I personally think that Opera 10 is a better browser than 9.7. I don't lament the lack of pinch to zoom, but I do miss being able to zoom in as far as I can, which comes in very handy when viewing these forums on the phone! Because of that and the better integration with Sense, I still use Opera 9.7 as my main browser.

Add pinch to zoom using BsB tweeks....works fine for me.
It has a really nice UI . It's fast.
But you can't use the camera while opera 10 is running in the background , don't know why :/
Lack of pinch to zoom but can be added using bsb tweaks as said above.
Did a normal search first surprised with very few(negligible) trusted results
So guys which one is it?
Please share your experience->with the reason for selecting it
you said the purpose yourself
cheers

I ran peacekeeper for many popular android browsers and they are all almost as fast, the differences are negligible
Having tested many different browsers i find X-Scope to be fastest and best.
My personal preference is for dolphin, I've tried pretty much all.
Dolphin ain't perfect but its pretty good and offers good speed a nice UI and a desktop like browsing experience.
Opera second for me, fast and stable but not much of a fan of it's looks.
Stock browser is adequate and pretty quick but well overrated by some on here (no way does it "kill" the competition tbph).
Miren was quite nice but buggy.
Xscope hated the interface and themes didn't work (for me). Not a fan.
Dolphin HD, i tested Opera, Opera mini, xscope, stock and the Dolphin was the one i liked the most, very fast loading pages and a few nice add-ons
I really can't tell if there is a speed difference between stock and Opera. Don't like Dolphin and haven't tried Xscope.
In my opinion the stock browser is much faster than all the others available, although I find Opera to be the best of the rest so to speak. You will not notice this speed difference on mobile sites, but heavy desktop sites with lots of content are much smoother in the stock browser.
With dynamic text reflow and better tab managment the stock browser would be just about perfect.
I want a tabbed browser, so opera and stock are out; dolphin, xscope and miren all have real tabs, of those miren has the best interface and dolphin the worst, I especially like miren's way of hiding and showing controls with a easy swipe, I don't like remembering all the different gestures needed for dolphin, xscope is sort of in between, it looks a lot like chrome, which is good, I don't like the wat you have to press thre menu button to show the controls but otherwise controlling it is fine. Out of all the tabbed browsers however xscope renders fonts much better at smaller sizes, so you can zoom out more and read more of a page without scrolling. So I use xscope and it's almost as fast as stock browser too (about 0.5% or 5-6 points out of around 955 point slower in peacekeeper)
I had make some test for a french forum. So, there is the results. Maybe it will help.

You gotta add Dolphin HD to the list.
I like the stock browser, but it is sometimes gimped when you flash a custom ROM.
I've tried Xscope, Opera, and Dolphin. I like Dolphin the best. Opera is nice, but I don't like the way it renders text when fully zoomed out. I don't like the layout of Xscope nor the controls.
Dolphin is fast. I like the Speed Dial home page. I like the double-tap zoom in / zoom out feature. I like swipe left for bookmarks, etc. and swipe right for add-ins, etc. The only thing I don't like is the prompt to clear history and cache when I try to back out of the app.
^ don't have edit poll permission
@MOD,
Can we add Dolphin HD and Stock browser also as separate options to define a clear cut majority of preferences that will come from the user experiences shared in this thread.

You know like erm tabs
what about
Miren Browser
Maxthon Browser
Dolphin Browser HD
Opera Mini
Dophin Mini
In SGS2 no browser is better than Stock, second, Dolphin HD, Opera Full, Miren, Maxthon
Skyfire shouldnt be called a browser it should be called Advertisement agency with facebook integration

A thread I posted awhile back. Wasn't posted as fastest, but I'm sure best covers it. Good poll results as well.
People seem to like the stock for the hardware accelerated support no other browser gets however some browsers do have their perks. Feel free to check that thread out and make your decision. And there's no harm in keeping more than 1 browser.

Maybe he is confusing windows and tabs.
Just tried the Miren browser. I like it. I disabled the status bar, tabs, and lower on-screen buttons for a full-window experience. It's very nice for blog/aggragator sites. You click a link, read it, and quickly get back to original website by swiping left. Plus, it has the double-tap zoom in/out feature for one handed browsing. Quick too.
I tried almost all browser I found on the android market
BoatBrowser is the best in terms of UI and ease of use + easy desktop useragent switcht
* Stock is very nice but I do not like the way some parts of pages seems redrawn when scrolling.
* I like Dolphine MINI but hate dolphine HD. MINI is light and fast. HD is slow and heavy.
* Opera Mobile for smooth scrolling, very well implemented continuous text reflaw while pinch zooming in and out, ability to save to another location than /sdcard/download + does not redownload images when choosing to download, it uses its cache -> save image is instant + allows desktop useragent + I feel the way OperaMobile displays images is cleaner than other webkit bases browsers (Stock, Dolphin, Boat). Opera Mobile has its own rendering engine + Supports tabbed browsing.
I was not able to determine the fastest one, they all perform well on ths SGS2
So for me, Opera Mobile is default browser. And I manually launch Stock browser if needed.
That's my 2cents
Dolphin HD. Love it.
Xscope of course
So as we all know, that the iPhone Browser Safari offers a way smoother pinch to zoom and scrolling experience than the Android Browser (Especially on singlecore phones). So I head the only reason why the iPhone Browser is smoother is because it just takes a thumbnail instead of live rendering, so you actually only navigate on a thumbnail of the site untill you stop touching the screen.
I was just wondering if it's possible to change the Android Browser so it does the same thing, giving us a smoother experience?
Why hasn't anyone already done it?
Bump I guess
Are there any popular inverted web browsers and how much battery would they save on an AMOLED?
The android stock browser has this option (4+). The images look weird (like x-rays images) . That should really save some amount of battery.
Edit - found that dolphin can do much better inverting than stock ( they have the night mode). Images don't look weird on it.!
