Hi,
Has anyone used a micro sim cutter to get their regular sim down to the micro sim size required for the S3?
Just ordered a micro sim cutter of eBay, and would like some reassurance that it will do the job when my S3 arrives?
Thanks

Stop being a lazy arse and go get one from your service provider....its just unnecessary hassle if it goes wrong!!

I use one from ebay. They Work perfectly. I've used it on 4 sim cards now. I prefer to cut than to get my card swapped by the network provider, mainly because it gives me the flexibility to reconstruct the card to full size to put it into any other phone I own. Very handy for when you go abroad and are swapping sims around.

I just used a pair of scissors. Worked perfectly and you dont have to get it perfect. But really, just go get a sim from the store (should be free)

I just used scissors and the line tracing sticker that came with the $1 full SIM adapter I bought.
But obviously if you don't have a steady hand then don't be stupid enough to try because 1 slip can kill the card.
I didn't even use a guide, I used some scissors and common sense, it works perfect.
hello
yes u can use the micro sim cutter but the problem is that when u cut it the sim card number is removed from the sim card it is on the other remaining left over of the sim.. u better buy a new msim
My local service provider wants to charge existing customers $20 just to get a micro-SIM. No way was I giving them more of my money.
So yes, a micro SIM cutter did the job!
I went into Telstra, (not known for their generosity) & they gave me one free, along with converting it to my number and copying all the contacts etc. Took a whole minute or so.
Then I went to Allphones about 15m away and bought a micro-to-SIM converter and now I can use my microSIM in anything except a new iPhone... (as if... ) Total cost about $3 for the converter. (which I needed only in case my new S3 failed and I needed to use my Moto Defy for a bit)
At the time I went to get a new micro SIM, but they just asked me weirdly why I would want that and then just proceeded in cutting it with their tool in front of me and I went out the shop 2 minutes after I entered.
I used a micro sim cutter I bought from ebay to cut down a regular straight talk sim card I used in my Galaxy Note to fit in my GS3 and it works great!

You know , you could actually cut a extra or a spoilt sim card using the sim cutter before cutting ur real sim with it . So to test it out

Should work fine. I cut mine down, with a carving knife, whilst waiting for my micro sim to arrive.

The micro sim cutter should have an opening to see exactly what is going to be cut.
The sim I use while overseas with work had the entire metal contact area inside the window so I cut it without problem. My sim card at home was going to have a fair amount of the metal cut so I decided to hand cut the sim. Didn't work, the contacts must not have lined up well in the phone and I had to order a new sim. Can't you have a new sim shipped? Mine arrived the next day after I butchered the original.

Called the number. Told him the tech support guy that I had been having problems with the battery door being creaky, and going to Tmobile stores and them not being able to help.
He transferred me to the Parts & Warranty department. I told the rep the situation, that I have had problems with the battery door/housing being creaky, not staying locked to the phone.
She checked my warranty on the phone, and even though I just bought this phone used off craigslist, the warranty was still active. She informed me that we are able to get ONE FREE replacement of each type ONCE PER warranty of a HTC phone. Once you call in ONCE they mark your warranty on the phone, and won't let you call back again.
She said that I could get a free replacement battery door/housing, USB cable, SD card, and battery. So I told her i'd like one of everything I could get.
She said Okay, I got email confirmation, and next day it was shipped via Fedex. Will have the package next tuesday.
EXTREMELY happy considering, the housing goes for $30-60, the charger $10-20, the battery $15-25. I'm not even 100% sure i'll be keeping this phone, but now I can sell it as mint condition on ebay for at least 100 bucks more than I paid for it.

I'm pretty sure you can call as many times as you need. It's just that you are allowed 1 replacement if each accessory that came in the box. I'm going to find out about the sd card seal today? I didn't get an sdcard in my box so I'm not sure they are going to send me one.

Yes, SIMs work in other phones, no need to be an asshole about it. In this instance though, the GNex uses a micro SIM and the Rezound a normal SIM. Buy an adaptor http://www.amazon.com/Micro-SIM-Cutter-Converter-adapters/dp/B003UEWF8I or get a new SIM.
I don't think he was complaining it was just a question if he could switch it or not. And that answer is no because razr and gnex use micro sim cards while the rezound uses a regular sim

Alright, so I got 1 wrong, but I knew they had different sized SIMs. Just figured all SIMs were specific to the device they were activated in, my bad. But why bother buying an adapter or anything for that matter when you can get as many SIMs as you want for free...
What are the advantages of using micro sims vs regular sims, From the videos on youtube people can just cut the regular one down and it works the same. So the regular one just has more excess plastic lol?

It you go to a store they should swap your sim for a regular one. If you are going to be swapping back and forth though, getting the adapter is your best bet. Except for size, all 4g sims work the same.

Buy a sim cutter and use an adapter . If all fails get a brand new sim ( though it should be fine).

Even if you don't wanna go all the way to the store, you can get SIMs from the website and they'll be there in a day or 2, as many as you want. And usually when you buy a phone, it comes with some sort of SIM card... off contract or not, usually it's in the box. Unless you buy it off the street, it should come with something.
Thinking of getting a spare GN and was thinking if the SIM is swappable and Aldo how hard it would be to switch between the two phones.
I believe the gnex uses a micro sim that's smaller than the rezound. As far as I know, the rezound sim can be cut to work, but its a one way deal

Go to a VZW store w/ the Nexus ask for a sim to put in. Buy that and profit.
When the gnex first came out I had several buddies that wanted to swap between the rezound a gnex. I was familiar with the sim adapter from my iPhone experience and told them to try the adapters and I know three or four of them ran them for months without any problems.
I would go the route with having Verizon burn a micro sim for you, but if that's not an option you can order a micro sim cutter and the adapter together.
If they still sell them, the sim cutter is a tool that makes a normal sim into a micro sim so you don't have to cut the pattern by hand.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I do it every day, get the micro from Verizon but keep your old rezound sim. Use the micro as a template and cut out the old sim with a razor blade, then you got your adapter for the rezzy.

Just get the adapter.. $2-$3 and you don't have to screw around with anything.
When I pre-ordered my note2 I didn't realize that it took micro sim, and that I woild just use the sim from my Gnex. Oops.. so on my way home from work I stopped at a Verizon store to pick up a micro sim, and they wouldn't give me one without first bringing in my phone to be activated at the store!
Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to fly in the face of everything I've heard elsewhere.
So tomorrow I guess I have to bring the thing in to have it activated.

I think you can cut your existing SIM down, if you're very careful or use a tool, if you want to avoid getting your phone activated at the store.

It just looks like Verizon is trying to continue to keep control of devices as much as possible and for as long as possible. It feels like Verizon really has control issues which is now harder for it to do with sim cards.

Both the Note 2 and the GNex use a micro sim. I popped mine out of my GNex today and had my note 2 running in 30 seconds.

for two phones to display the same issue I would check to see if theirs a common app you both have running on your phones which may be messing with your settings?
Or remove PIN request for the SIM Card.
So I get in on mine, it's actually an issue with the sim card tray not keeping it tight, generally it can be triggered by pressing hard on the power button, being that the tray is right behind it. Solution? Put a small piece of scotch tape on the back of your sim card to keep it tight, it worked for me
