Hi, first post!
I had a Galaxy Player 4 for a while (7 months) before finally deciding to get me a Galaxy SII. I installed almost every single one app I had starting with Poweramp.
What I find quite unbelievable is that most times I press the Menu Key or the Back Key music in Poweramp pauses for an instant. Nothing dramatic, but that never ever happened in my Player 4. And since I bought Poweramp specifically for its gapless prowess, well...
I tweaked the Audio priority and the buffer, but the problem persists.
What is better: to store Poweramp in the SD card or in the internal memory? Any suggestions?
Thank you all.
Moving to Q&A, please post all future questions there please.
Thanks

store it on Internal storage.
I have never experienced any problems with PowerAmp.

Sun90, do you listen to flac or mp3s? I have noticed that it's while listening to flac files when the issue is much more evident.
I think I'll start reading about ROMS and all that fun part of owning an Android device. I had a Motorola Rokr E2, so I'm no stranger to flashing and modifing mobiles, but this is a whole new game for me.
And thanks for your reply.
animations...
Well, i tracked down the "problem" to the window animations in ICS. While very pretty, I've found that while listening to FLAC in PowerAmp and switching windows, whenever a window animation comes along, tiny clicks and skips (but annoying for me) tend to show up.
My solution? Turn off animations.
Another solution I am testing is 1x animations and "Force GPU rendering" checked. These two settings have made the twitchiness disappear almost completely.
Cheers, everyone.

Hi All,
I bought galaxy s2 i9100G recently , phone works great except music player .
I had around 3Gb of mp3 songs on my 8Gb memory card(class 2), so i thought because of its speed the stock player is crashing.I removed all the songs from memory card and synced them to phone memory using kies.
I had read some previous blogs that winamp or poweramp will solve the problem, So i downloaded winamp from market and installed.
Phone works fine winamp if i don connect 3.5mm headphone jack, if i connect headphone jack then after random time the music player crashes. Nothing works.. i need to reboot the phone..
Please suggest
thanks,
Vijay
I am having the same issues with my i9100g.
Tried many many music players apart from the stock one, but it still tends to freeze up randomly...
Edit: just upgraded to ics...and my music doesn't hang anymore..!
I am having the same problem with my SII 9100G. I first I thought it was the mps (it always crashed playing a huge file). But recently I got crashes with other songs as well.
Any ideas for a solution?

I did exacttly that.
Unfortunately the next time I used the player it crashed again...
The phone regulary crashes after 10 minutes when I do have runtastic running together with the music player.
After removing the battery (which is annoying during running...) it'll work without any problems for al long time.

Topic: Audio Problems and Solutions
For testing purposes, I will be using CM7 as the ROM for testing; although stated throughout I have not had the audio issues others are stating unless noted why(HEAVY USAGE). Also, I will not have any MODS or Personal Hacks overlaying the out-of-box CM7! That means no zep scripts, no speedy scripts, no other personal mods other than what you get from a stock CM7 flash. No ATKs and no Memory Optimizer apps. Power Mode is set to Performance, although Power Saving has never caused issues in the past. It is IMPERATIVE that you state ANY personal MODs over any ROM that you choose to use for me to help you!
This thread is going to cover the audio issues users are having with the Droid x2. This means popping sounds, no sound, sound too loud, static noises, random mutes, etc. ANYTHING that deals with audio issues for the Droid x2!
I have had the Droid x2 since its release, and I have yet to have any of the symptoms above, let alone ANY audio issues other than random bluetooth disconnects with my car's stereo system. I isolated the issue with that and the problem has been "solved" as of me writing this. But the issues I see users having deals with audio stuttering or lagging as the user is trying to listen to music.
Now, for me to try and help you, and others I'm sure, I need you to fill out a form and post it at the beginning of your post. It should look like this:
Device: Milestone x2/Droid x2
ROM: GBP7/Eclipse/Molten/Liberty/Etc. (Also, Provide the specific version "GBP7 v.5"
Android Version: This will be kernel version, android version, etc. go to About Phone to acquire.
Audio Software: Google Music, WinAMP, PowerAMP, etc.
Audio Enhancers: DSP Manager or any of the like to change the "normal" output of the device.
Init Scripts and personal mods: Please upload the scripts and explain all mods you did that are not posted in the x2 dev section.
Sound Output: Stock Speaker, Line Out Speakers, Ear Plugs, BT Headset, BT Speakers, etc.
SD Card Info: SD Card size, how much space is used and free, and SD Class(The class is the small number in the circle of your SD card)
Symptom: What the issue is.
Then give a DETAILED description of what you problem is, what you have tried to do to solve the issue, ANY INFORMATION that you feel would be relevant to the problem, POST IT! I don't have your specific handset and I see posts of several users stating they are having issues, yet I have never experienced any of the common problems. This is not denying that the problems don't exist, but I'm trying to help, and I will need to know as much as possible.
*Try to get me average free ram and cpu usage if you can. Look up an app called seepu by Latedroid in the market, the free version should suffice.
Further Testing:
-Before trying to apply one of the fixes, try these instructions before proceeding. With some devices having issues and others not, we need to isolate the cause of this issues. This will help more with the research.

Device droid x2
Rom: stock rooted and still bloat
Android ver: 2.3.5 build 412 kernal 0007
Audio enhancers: none
Sound: earphones, speakers
Sdcard:16gb class 10, 4gb free
Symptom: through music player for mp3 stored on phone popping, skipping.
Solution: not really a solution but more of a way to mitigate it to a low number of times. Currently only happens about 3 times per 105ish songs on stock player.
-First be on android 2.3.5 build 412.
-V6 supercharger update 8 option 9 then option 12.
-Setcpu or init.d cpu script keep a high of 1ghz and low of 608mhz.
-get v6noop.sh and run it with script manager.
-use naven's inithack v0.6
Those steps get rid of the pop and considerably cuts the skipping down. I noticed that once the cpu falls under 608 thats when the chances of music skipping will happen. And not so much as availible ram. I had as low as 59mb free of ram with out a skip but as soon as the cpu falls under 608 the chance of skipping will happen.
This method gets a good result with stock bloated and without poweramp high buffer. Heck i needed eclipse and all that with power amp on 2.3.4 and the results still wasnt as good as it with 2.3.5. Skipped every 6-8 songs per 80 with said method on 2.3.4.
Thats why i refuse to use any rom based on 2.3.4.
Oh btw forgot to mentioned that i have my music on the phone itself since my sdcard is known to fail on me (and if it does you can't do anything really with your phone if you have sd flipflop enabled learned that the hard way).

So, is the problem still going on? If so is it every 105ish songs? Or where you providing an answer?
I'm just mentioning this as an aside, but this is my second Dx2, it's a refurb. The reason I had to do a warranty call was because the headphone jack stopped playing music probably. By this I mean that the headphone jack wouldn't play because the connection between the jack and the motherboard was faulty. Hardware failure. Well now guess what, the same thing has happened to this refurb they gave me when I called my warranty. I'm not being abusive to this phone, all I'm doing is plugging in the earphones. This is the second Dx2 I've broken in the exact same way. Honestly I think it's because the dx2 is a pos, and the abused child workers in China making this aren't putting enough saughter on the headphone jack. So now I have to sbf back to stock yet again and do a warranty call.
But yeah, I'm just complaining and telling of my experience. I don't get skips on audio very often anymore. Eclipse mostly fixed that.

I have had no issues with my headphone jack, has the phone since they came out, use headphones many times daily.
As for the skipping, one can try a faster SD card if your music is on the external SD card.
My skipping was fixed when I installed Player Pro, so I think it is an issue with the Android player itself.
Nevermind
Ignore this

I currently use PowerAMP because it has gapless playback and crossfading. I didn't see on the Android Market description that PlayerPro has gapless playback. Does it? Reason I ask is even with PowerAMP, I get the occasional skip, but not much. Just curious.
Thanks!

I have the same issue with my headphone jack, any slight movement of the headphones and it turns off the music app, it's really annoying. I sent my original X2 for a refurbished one and it does the same. I pretty much gave up on that but I'm able to listen to it if i place it just right with no movement and i hold it in my jacket pocket upright.
I never get skips. No matter how hard I multitask. Frankly I'm suspicious that all of the scripts everyone runs are part of the problem. The only time I've had issues with skipping or redraws or anything memory related was running v6 or speedy. My phone ran like a hot piece of **** with speedy on stock. Well except for on startup but after about 8 hours I would need a reboot. Stock Eclipse v1.3 with the mashup build.prop has given me the best performance all around.
But I'm not an Android dev. Just a casual observer.

Sorry i was providing both. Its on going but has been subdued to that extent. When i was on 2.2.2 - 2.3.4 it skipped and popped constantly even on eclipse (up to the last one that was for 2.3.4) and the best i could get was on 6-10 songs would skip per 80 songs and popped a lot and that was using v6 supercharger and powramp high buffer. So with the method i put its all free apps and knocks it down to 3-5 songs every 105 (thats about how long one of my playlist is). With out them pops skips on almost every single song. So yes this is a mitigate solution not a permanent fix solution.
So if your phone skips constantly then try what i did and see if it helps.

This would have a factor in the skipping of music because the CPU would drop or overload at random times. I personally have never had the skips except with the heavy HEAVY multitasking like stated earier, even on stock 2.2.2 til 2.3.5. The goal here is to isolate what the user is doing while the music is playing. I'm almost positive 90% of the issues are scripts or playing texas holdem or a tegra game or something while listening to music.
I listen to music for several hours every day at work. It skips on the stock rom, Molten, Liberty, and Eclipse roms. And that's with no multitasking since I'm working and can't sit there playing with my phone. Both stored and streaming music have always skipped since I got this phone. I even tried increasing the minimum cpu speed to 600mhz like someone else suggested, but that had no affect. The only way that I have been able to stop it is with option 9 in the V6 script.

Firstly, I am envious of Pepperm1nt and others who don't experience any music stuttering, you lucky chaps. I guess you guys were really lucky to get a good bug-free phone on purchase.
I for one do experience music stuttering.
Device: Droid x2
ROM: Liberty
Android Version: 2.3.4
Audio Software: Google Music
Audio Enhancers: DSP Manager with Bass and Equalizer turned on
Sound Output: Ear phones
SD Card Info:32 GB Sandisk class 4 SD card (I also had a generic 8 GB class 4 SD card before). About 8 GB free.
Symptoms: When I listen to music, I sometimes experience music stutters. I can't remember clearly, but I think I don't get (or at least only rarely get) sound stutters when I am doing nothing on the phone. On occasion, music stutters when I turn off the display and sometimes when I am browsing the web on the phone. A couple of sure shot ways to cause music to stutter is by going into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications. This causes the Settings app to load all the currently installed apps and this takes some processing and causes a LOT of music stutters.
I also noted that music stuttering increases if I use the DSP manager settings. Also, it is worth pointing out that the amount of multitasking doesn't really matter because I experience music stuttering even on relatively mild to no multitasking..
Is it possible that there is a hardware bug on some (or many) of the Droid X2's and some people (like pepperm1nt) were just lucky to get a phone that didn't have those bugs and are not experiencing any music stuttering (or at least experiencing a lot less stuttering than others)?
Also, I was wondering if using CM7 that dragonzkiller released might help alleviate or even cure this problem? Is it possible and did someone try to check?

I haven't tried CM7 yet and I won't until it can read the external SD card, since that is where my music and my apps are at.
But, reports from people who have put it on their phones have been that the ROM is very fast. I would hope so with all the BLUR removed and it being a pure AOSP image.
But, as for now, if I don't use the V6 scripts, then my music stuttering on stock is pretty bad, even when I'm not multitasking anything. Although, I am running Juice Defender, so that might have something to do with it as well.
Still, even on my old LG Vortex (ARM6, 600mhz), music stuttering never occurred when I wasn't doing anything else on it, and then even if I was playing a game, it was rare, but it would happen.

Even I am holding back from flashing CM7 until the External SD card is working as that is where all my music and a lot of my media is. Also, I don't have so severe music stuttering issues on stock though.

It might be worth it to note that there are different versions of the droid x2. If you pull out the battery you can see it listed. It starts SJUG. Maybe some of these problems only exist on certain revisions ( I believe there are only 2 versions).
Audio codec problem
I think this is on topic relative to the nature of this thread.
I work in a corporate environment, in a manner of speaking. We use M$ Exchange for emails. We also use IP Office and voicemails are sent to email as attachments.
I cannot play the email attachment with either the standard player or with WinAmp. I can play them with RemoteWave but even then they are somewhat scratchy.
I am running a rooted stock 2.3.4 with bloat apps frozen with no addons/scripts/roms.
Previously, I had read that the codec used is the problem and that certain Android builds on ceraton devices have problems. This goes back to my initial Froyo build on this phone (acquired in Jul '10).

Now back on topic
I wonder what these different "versions" mentioned could be why there is so many different issues with not only music skips but why it seems so many issues are inconsistent here.
I encountered a problem with my SGS2 GT-i1900G. My phone tends to hang while I'm listening to music using headphone.Usually it stuck when the phone was in standby mode. I'm a newbie, please give me some advise. I had tried to store my music on external sd and also internal storage but the problem still occurred.I had tried all the best that I can includes:-
1. Factory recovery.
2. Close down all unused apps.
Please. I need help
Delete the cache your music / wipe the dalvik cache via recovery
if u thank me then i will thank you ( 이 승 기 )
S2 hang while listening to music
Glad i found someone else encounter the same issue.
It happened to me as well while on earphone and phone went idling. I am also on S2 I9100G. When this happens, i need to take out the battery too.
I have changed a couple of memory card. From kingston to sandisk.
Nothing works. At first, i thought it was memory card but if like the OP mentioned. It happened to internal memory. It will happen all the time.
I am using the default music player. I notice that the player would not play in background because once you press the phone button. The music player stop.
My next trial would be using the winamps player and not the default player to see if this still happen. Winamp (widget) allows simultaneous running of other thing while listening to music.
Hope someone found a solution for this. It looks like a manufacturer defects. Either hardware or software.
I'm having this issue too, hope it gets fixed
Tried winamps, same thing.
I have tried winamps. Same problem still.
This sucks.
strangr u all using the default smmy headphones???????try a diff one and post the result
I have used different headphones with my s2 but the problem still there!...wht i think when ur using mobile network switch from 3G to 2G e.g, music player get hangs...

Does anyone know why it's happening.

I have this problem as well, I figured it was because all my music was on a Class 2 SD card and the player would stop if the next file didn't load quick enough.
It only plays so much of the song then stops.
But I installed TSF launcher and played the music with no problems at all hmmmmm.
So what's going on?
Sent from my GT-I9300
yes i've experienced that random stop in previous XXALEF.
and no it's not because of the microsd card because i have a class 6 not class 2 as mentioned here. and i've used this microsd full of mp3s in my previous phones.
never experienced it again on XXALF6.
I'm on XXALF2
like I said my phone is not rooted at all.

Likely you are experiencing this due to low RAM. If you installed a new launcher and it works fine then the Touchwiz launcher probably uses a lot of RAM causing music to stop.

You can always try on another rom (with more RAM free). Or try other headphones just in case
I have had this on a few occasions with the default player .What i discovered was a message flashed up (not persistent notification so probably missed it before) saying no track exists or track not found. Cant recall exactly the message but looking into it realised some tracks were in different formats so basically player couldn't read them so instead of moving to next shuffled track player just stops.
Other thing is some of my music files are in bit of a mess due to importing to SD cards ,phones etc using various apps and methods few wav Flac aac in the mix to.
So just an idea to check your music files with a file manger see everything is in order and which formats though i think default player is meant to play most formats.
Personally i mostly use Poweramp have for few years on devices, like the default player but cant scrobble and prefer widget with no background
I'd say this is a problem with the software. I have had this problem as well. Samsung will need to look into this for sure. If my music gets interrupted at all, i have to kill the process and start it again. I'm not sure if the problem lies in communication between BT, aux jack or what.
Maybe its due to the motion control..Go to settings>Motion>Go to "Turn over to mute/pause" option> Turn it off> Might solve the problem, Not sure!:silly:
Also try turning off "Palm touch to mute/pause" option in "Settings>Motion" itself

Interesting, think you maybe on to something with that palm touch thing, after all I've taken loads of screenshots in my pocket..
After upgrading my phone to ZSALF1 (hong kong bought), this seems to have fixed the problem with the music starting.
Incidentally, I also turned off the motion to capture the screen as I also had taken screenshots in my pocket. Annoying.
Cheers
Hello I have the Samsung Galaxy S2 gt19100. My issue is with my sound. When I first got the phone about a month ago everything worked fine. However a couple off days ago my sound except for in call sound does not work. That is I have no ringtones, no music, no sms notification sounds. It makes no difference whether I have my headphones in or not. The music player in particular seems to have the most problems. When I touch a song to play it, it doesn't play at all. It goes to the screen with the album's picture, but the song never starts. It always remains at 00:00. Eventually the music player will crash. This leads me to believe that it software issue and not a hardware one. I've tried rooting the phone and installing a new image, I've tried formatting the SD card, however this has not fixed the sound problem. Note: This problem existed before I started rooting and installing new images.
If anyone knows anything about this issue I would greatly appreciate any help. If I've left off some information you need please don't hesitate to ask for it.

Couple more questions... did you install anything new.. anything different that you did before the sound stopped working?
Try a different media player for music... like winamp etc and post the results...

I don't recall installing anything new. This problem seemed to crop up after I started using headphones to listen to music. But now it makes no difference whether I have the headphones plugged in or not. Still no sound either way. I downloaded Winamp and I tried PlayerPro as well. Same situation. No sound and the song track doesn't advance and remains at 00:00

Download another song and see if that works.
Find your music player in settings-apps-all and clear data.

Tried that too. Cleared both caches and fixed the permissions, but still songs hangs 00:00 with no sound. It should also be noted that I also have no sound for ringtones or sms notifications either.

Ok. Before we go into Drm issues, let's try this.
Download PowerAmp trial, from market.
Check if it plays sound well (it should) and report here

Ok cleared data from Media storage rebooted and waited 5 min. Power Amp will still not play a song.
Try moving your music from sd card to internal or vice versa

I used Odin. Just a reminder though that this problem surfaced before I rooted the phone. I only rooted it and installed a fresh image in an attempt to fix the problem.

i think it's time to perform a factory data reset.
First, backup your important data.
Then,
Goto Settings - Backup and Reset - Factory data reset.
Done
