[Q] Freeing Up Phone Space - Optimus One, P500, V General

I keep getting a message that my phone storage is low. Now in addition to that, it's declining text messages from coming in due to the lack of space. I don't have that many App's installed, so I'm not sure how to free up more space. I cleared all the web cache and history, deleted every App that isn't essential. Are there any other things I can do to free up space?
Thanks,
-Adam

Install App Cache Cleaner from playstore.
No offense but you sound noobish.. go to Settings and check Storage.. (internal memory)
Btw which Rom are you using??
Go to Message >> Settings >> See if you have checked Delete Old Message option!!

None taken! This phone only cost me $20, so I figured that I'd go with an Android instead of a normal phone. I don't use it enough to eclipse the "noob" level. I just downloaded the App Cache Cleaner and it freed up almost 2MB! Now I got 26.68MB Available space. I'm just using the Rom that came with the phone.
Thanks,
-Adam

Search on the market for 'apps2rom'. That will do the trick.
The only downside is when you flash a new rom after that, the apps you moved to the system partition got erased... But it definitely worth the trouble!!!

I've been very happy with how android assistant does both jobs. Plus you can use it to back up your apps. You might want to give it a try

You said you have less no. of apps in phone.. still you have only 26MB space left.
I think you have not moved the apps to SD card..
Go to Settings >> Applications >> Manage Apps.. >> Downloaded Ones.
Select apps one by one.. if you see the option of moving the app to sdcard.. do it.
Many will have the option.. many wont.. but you will save alot of space in internal memory!!

I don't think so. I'm just running whatever came stock with the phone. There might have been a firmware update, but that's it. Can you root this phone for free? If yes, can someone send me a link for directions. Also, what ROM would you guys recommend once I have the phone rooted?
Thanks,
-Adam

What rom you choose to use is completely up to you, there are several and yes you arent rooted...you have to find a program called gingerbreak v1.2 or superoneclick....im not sure which one would work for you but i used gingerbreak....rooting simply allows your phone superuser access which in terms can modify system files and the like. I dont have a direct link as of right now but you can search on google for ( sweetnsour how to xda lg optimus t ) and it should be the first link as he (sweetnsour) created the thread. Also im pretty sure youve got new baseband which allows for better signal. V10 is old baseband, v20a,b,etc...is new baseband, all of the current roms now only support new basebands but before i get ahead of myself considering you dont even have a rooted phone, do some research, before you attempt any kind of modification to your device make sure you fully grasp the idea of what your trying yo learn or else you end up with a shiny brick

I'm eligible for a new phone in December, so until then I'm gonna stick w/ what I got.. especially now that I have enough free space for my phone to work properly. Looking forward to getting a 4G phone w/ flash capability in a couple months!

Your phone now has flash capability but of course you have to be rooted because it requires installation of adobe flash player and adding libs to the data/data/flash folder than setting permissions

So I downloaded the "GingerBreak-v1.20.apk" file from that thread. It says to save this file to the phone storage and then run it to root the phone. I thought that you couldn't save anything to phone storage w/ an un-rooted phone. I also downloaded the "GingerBreak_exploit_source_from_APKv1.2.zip" file. What is this for?

Each every Android version is rooted in their different ways. First.. You need to check which version of android your phone is on!! Go to Settings .. About phone. If it is on 2.2.x (Froyo) you can use z4root or gingerbreak. Gingerbreak is easy to use.. put it in sdcard(or if you have downloaded it.. it will be there already).. install it and then run the installed program. Done.
If you are on 2.3.x (gingerbread).. then you have to use something else.. these s/w like z4root etc wont work.
You have the link to sweetnsour's thread. Read everything carefully. Have complete knowledge before doing anything.. or else you will brick your phone!!

I'm running 2.2.2. When using Gingerbreak, you don't need the file on phone storage? it can be on the sd card? Also, in the video, the guy using z4root didn't have a sim card in his phone. Is this because rooting also allows you to essentially break into the phone and then choose which carrier you want to use? i.e. the guy in the video might not have had a carrier yet (which would explain not having a sim card).
Thanks for all the help,
-Adam

Gingerbreak works from the SD card directly. Copy Gingerbreak to the SD card & run the app to root your phone.:good:

Rooting allows you to remove 'system' apps or install a custom recovery & custom roms. It does not carrier 'unlock' your phone, which is a different process ! Google's your best friend for this....
Hope this helps.

Factory reset after root?

My software on my droid x2 isn't doing good. From what I have seen something will happen in the background that causes all my system apps to restart, only they never finish restarting which begins to devour my memory and eventually leads to my phone freezing up. Also the ringtones like to change randomly to default (alarms set in third party apps too).
I was hoping rooting and getting rid of bloatware would solve this problem but it is still persisting. I thought I could restore backed up system apps with Titanium Backup so I was removing the apps. I'll leave them "restoring" for 45 minutes with no luck (I tried both just restoring the app and restoring both apps and data). So apparently it doesn't work like that.
My question is if I do a factory reset with my phone in its current condition, will I have an issue?
If u diddnt freeze the apps then you might. Did u back them up before u removed them?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Yes I backed up all of them, but when I go to restore them it doesn't work. It just keeps restoring them eternally. I waited 45 minutes for app only restore and it wasn't done.
If I am just clearing data in the process of a factory reset, can I maybe wipe data manually or with a tool that wipes data?
Anyone know the answer to this? I tried installing from the apk pack of services, but not all of them would install. My phone really needs a factory reset, I'm getting a lot of software related errors.
Could I maybe manually wipe certain apps? If anyone happens to know which built in apps are okay to wipe I would like to know.

Not all the apps in system can be installed via tapping on them. They need to be manually moved to system/app then change permissions. You can copy all over using root explorer

All you need to do is swap internal and external mount points. My Eclipse ROM has this built in. There is an init.d script that is floating around here that will do it as well.

DX2 Unroot

I just rooted my DX2 using the Droid3 one click root method. I don't like being rooted. I have frozen some apps and changed my boot animation and my fonts. All using ROM Manager. My question is, 3 actually,
1. How do I unroot?
2. Can I unroot without having to factory reset my phone?
3. Is there a way to back up my phone(settings, apps, contacts) without being rooted?
What is there not to like? Being rooted just gives u superuser permission you can stay stock and benefit from more apps and control and abilities to add to ur misfit toy

I am a noob at rooting. I was afraid to even take the leap. Now it seems that my phone is slower and laggy. I don't want to brick my phone trying to fix this.
Try using setcpu or ROM toolbox to set the CPU higher. Can also use auto task killer memory optimizer to free up ram on your phone. I'd say try that before unrooting. Not sure if you can unroot. I think you'll have to do a SBF

You can just SBF your phone, it's not as scary as it seems. The directions provided here on XDA are detailed and easy to follow.
Still, if it were me in you position, I'd not only keep root, but go ahead and install Recovery and do a backup. That way you don't have to lose your data.
I used to think the same thing. But keeping root has allowed me to load multiple roms and scripts, now I'm a flash addict! Flashing roms and running scripts is very easy when you follow the instructions on this forum. I suggest loading the liberty rom and trying it out before unrooting or sbfing.

feel free to pm me if u have something u can't figure out.
TIP-
FLASH ECLIPSE
U will almost instantly fall in love with how smooth it runs and how clean it is.
Or even try liberty. Both very solid.
And rooting and the mods u described u did(freezing/removing apps )I shouldn't slow ur phone down.
try clearing cache from stock recovery and see if that speeds things up for ya. It should.
U wont lose ANY data if u only clear the cache.
Breaking humpty dumpty is fine, remember to make nandroid so you can put your phone back to how you had it
Quite fun making a nandroid and trying out new ROMs and mods. You can rename nandroids too so you know which one is which, just put a "."But and then what ever you want after everything. So like 2011-12-23.Molten or something, just don't mess with the numbers.
Good luck!

Ok, so, I have flashed Eclipse to my phone. I downloaded Titanium backup to restore all of my data and apps but it isn't recognizing any of my backed up files. I don't understand. I even manually downloaded ADW again and went to restore my configuration and settings and it says there is no files. I know they are there I can see them when I connect my phone to the PC. Also when I open Easy Installer it isn't recognizing most of my APK files I have. Can you tell me what is going on please?

Try switching the files ur trying to restore to the other sdcard.
I suspect this is ur problem because eclipse comes with sd card flip
So I think that ti is looking in the wrong.place.
Just use a file explorer to move it all to the other sdcard
reboot and them try again

Also
U don't need "easy installer" I don't think
Just use a file explorer (like root explorer--HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS APP!)
And navigate to the apk u would like to install and tap it. Then use "package installer" to install it.
Although some apps(mostly system apps) u will need to manually "push"(copy&paste) to /system/app using root explorer(mount /system as rw first...little gray button on top in root explorer) then change permission to rw-r--r--. Reboot and app will be there.

Before Eclipse everything was being saved in my internal memory. When you said SD flip I thought maybe if I take what I want from internal and transfer to external it will be recognized. It worked. I am restoring all my data and apps. WOOHOO. Now I just need to find out how to get my music able to be controlled from the lock screen like gingerbread That is a feature I use daily as I use my phone as an MP3.

u could also try a message app from market...
For lockscreen music controls try something like power amp or another music app that comes with options for lockscreen widget/controls...maybe even try searching for "lockscreen music control"
Also..I am hoping nitro includes those controls in next release kinda like how liberty has it

[Q] App to install apk [Solved]

Just a quick question. When I had a winmo device, after we flashed a rom we had a program that we could add cab (winmo version of apk) files to and it would install those apps to our phones all at one time. I know there is titanium backup that will install the apps but sometimes that causes issues with the rooms in some of the new releases. Does anyone know of a app that will do something like what I am speaking of or am I on my own with this one? I know I can write scripts to do this but was looking for something a little easier.
If this has already been discussed then please ignore my request. I very seldom use my laptop to visit xda and the search function via the xda app is not really user friendly if you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Edit: created a flshable zip with my apk's and everything works flawless. Thanks to those who helped.
TiBU can do a batch restore, but don't restore any system apps or data.
A. *.apk file is a self-installing application, so you don't need another application to extract and install.
Can you share any specifics?

I know there is titanium backup that will install the apps but sometimes that causes issues with the rooms in some of the new releases. Does anyone know of a app that will do something like what I am speaking of or am I on my own with this one? I know I can write scripts to do this but was looking for something a little easier.
If this has already been discussed then please ignore my request. I very seldom use my laptop to visit xda and the search function via the xda app is not really user friendly if you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Edit: I see what your asking now. There are multiple choices out there. Personally I haven't had issues with Titanium backup so I can't note on the performance of alternative apps

TiBU can do a batch restore, but don't restore any system apps or data.
A. *.apk file is a self-installing application, so you don't need another application to extract and install.
Can you share any specifics?

I know its a self installing app. What I'm wondering is there a batch file installer for say 20+ apps to be installed at one time. Instead of installing 20+ apps one at a time. Does that clarify? In winmo devices a cab file is almost identical to a apk file for android. In winmo devices after we flashed a rom and had set everything up, we could run a program that would install all of our apps in one simple click. Hope this clarifies.

Yes, that works as well but I don't see an option to install all of the apps in one step.
I'll keep looking or maybe just break down and create a script.
I just took a quick look through play store.... maybe ultimate backup could work for you. As I said I haven't used it but it states to have the same type features as Titanium

The woes a flashaholic puts up with.
Found one that karmatoburn created here at xda.
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...apks-all-at-once-from-the-comfort-of-your-pc/
Now if I can figure out a way to do it without the use of a PC. Basically, keep all of my apk files on my SD card in a specific folder and have a script or whatever use that folder to install my apps. Maybe I'll just create something and share. Now I'm just curious if its even possible.

Im speaking out of my a$$ here but im guessing you could
do a flashable .zip and just make sure they install in the right partition
and everything should be good
anyone can correct me if im wrong
The paid version of TiBU installs all the *.apk files stored as a backup.
After a rom flash I go to the market and install TiBU and the paid key, select batch restore and 49 apps are installed in minutes.
Maybe you used the free version and installed one-by-one? A few restores convinced me to upgrade.

Yes, you are correct, however I'm having one hell of a time getting my zip files to install. They run but when they get to the apk file, I get an error message with (status 0) to follow. Basically, I suck at making flash able zip files.

Yea, I use the paid app but I was trying to include tibu in my batch install. Looks like right now tibu is my only option until I can make flashable zips work or create my script.
i remember using the installer on winmo way back. i cant remember the name of the app but i know what you are looking for. i dont have a solution but wish i did. I hate putting all my apps back on with tibu so i dont. i used appmonster and just run the batch and click install and finish until im done. i have all my apks backed up in a folder automaticly with asppmonster. i just keep that folder clean. if i install an app and remove it (trying a new app) and dont want it, i delete it out of that folder. keep it clean.
i cant remember the name of that app and its bothering me.....

Shashimi was one of them. Another really never had a name. It was a script that devs put in their rom that looked for a text file on the SD card that had a list of cab files in it. If it was listed in the text file, it was installed directly after the rom was installed. Just the 2 that I can think of right now. The later was the better of the 2 in my book. It was much simpler to use.

Not entirely true...
When an apk that is not installed is activated(by clicking on it in s file explorer, or downloading it from the market), a system app called packageinstaller.apk is opened, and that installs it.
So you do need another application to install it, it's just a part of the system
I use ROM toolbox pro to restore all my apps after I flash a ROM. It allows you to backup all your apps in batch, and restore various ways in batch. Can install missing apps, system, etc, and can do just apps, apps + data etc.
It also does a bunch of other ****.

Yes, my point exactly. It is handled by the system and not an external app. The title of the thread is App to install apk. The OP mentioned windows based systems. I was letting him know android system does the installing, not some external app.
I could imagine someone new to android downloading apps and not know what to do next.
With a Google search I learned:
1. How to push and install apk's from a pc using an adb shell and one command. Very easy, but you don't always have a pc when you flash a rom.
2. An app in the market can do this from the phone.

Random Reboots - After using GO Taskmanager EX

I moved some apps to the storage card and now my phone only stays up for a few minutes!!
Is there any fix I can do without recovery? TIA
DAMN I wish Android had a Safe Mode like SPB Pocket Plus gave us WinMo!!!
What does Wipe Delvik Cache do? I know the others completely restore the rom.
Or is it possible I could access I can load the internel android sd card and delete something i.e.: suspected app go taskmanager

First thing you should forget about is moving apps to the SD card.
Secondly you can uninstall any app via adb commands in recovery (you can search on how to do that
You can also find mounds of info on what Dalvik cache is by Googling
You should've known all that before trying to move apps to SD or research and find which apps are safe to move to SD
Forget completely about moving apps to SD if you want a smooth trouble free experience

I searched Delvik Cache StreakMod in GOOGLE and found nothing... All that showed up was countless "Should I Clear My Delvik Cache When Installing A New Rom" threads, ClockworkMod Wiki didn't even tell me much about Delvik and when I searched there for it no results came up atll.
Thanks for nothing and being on the pessimist attack mode side of xda, I appreciate that very contributing, of you to assume I didn't try searching first!! You made an ass out of you and me now! LoL! Only tidbit of info that was remotely useful was telling me about uninstalling through adb.
I went ahead and tried a new rom out on my 32Gb card. Still got the LXdroid 0.2 rom on the old internal 2Gb card.

Like I said I even tried looking on ClockworkMod Wiki and didn't find anything with the simplest search phrase "Delvik" and nothing showed up... Somebody needs to plug up some holes!

First of all its "Dalvik" and if you can't find what it means then you still need to hone your search skills instead of arguing with someone that knows more than you

when you say moved some apps? what apps that you moved?
try reflashing the rom again.. might help you .. but usually start fresh is all the better..
or move the apps that you moved to external sd back to the internal sd ... but shouldnt streak have many extra spaces in internal sd? i never moved any apps to sd because there is always extra space even after i install hundreds of apps...

All that were suggested. Yea I wasn't staying up long enough to uninstall or move the apps back over to the internal storage.
I switched rom's an am using PCM7, loving it so far with the repentance of a few bugs that need to be worked out on my end.
Sorry if this is a bit of a generalization, but I got curious: I would like to understand why having the app living on the external SD could cause the phone to stop working. I know the developer may have a "flag" on the app manifest telling the system it wants to stay on the "main" storage, but what is it exactly that could break the system when reading from the SD? If I understand correctly, an app is merely a zipped .apk file, which is loaded into memory (maybe in chunks, whatever) and run from there... So: why would it matter where it's being read from?

I'm no expert at android but I'll give it my best shot...
Some app's tend to tie themselves into the system, like app's that require root access or whatever, maybe even task manager app's too. So unexpectedly moving that, would possibly cause a problem or hand ups, I also am led to believe that some app managers might not properly move the app in question correctly to the sd card, like the main android systems feature offers also. I believe.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
