I have had my rezound since June, i received the OTA 4.0.3 in august and im finally wanting to root.. I have searched and searched for a good stepbystep for rooting from a stock device that is at 4.0.3
I come from an original d1 for 3 years and flashed roms alot. However with the rezound i held off until now, compared to the d1 root and flashing looks alot more difficult.
Feel free to make fun or delete my thread if someone can point me to a thread with the correct steps.
Again the threads i have found are directions for rooting a phone pre-ota 4.0.3
First go to WWW.htcdev.com/bootloader and unlock your phone.
The pre 4.0.3 root is the exact same way as after 4.0.3. Just different version of S-OFF tool
Since you are familiar with flashing ROMs. I won't go into detail.
After that. If you want to go S-OFF it is available. If not. Download a recovery. There are 3 working recoveries for the Rezond.. Look in Development section. Downlaod a ROM and flash. If your S-on. you must flash the boot.img with fastboot on a computer.

For the past 2 years I have has a Verizon xv6800(Titan) and have come to know most of the ins and outs of that phone. Unfortunately that phone has seen it last day. I got a new Driod Eris today and hopped over here to read up on what I need to do to make this phone do what I want it to do. I have read up on the leaked and root'd ROMs and the 2.1 OTA update.
This phone shipped with HBOOT 1.49
Baseband 2.42.00.04.12
Build 2.36.605.1CL165907 release-keys
Based on what I have read this looks like a leaked ROM. I suspect that what I have is really a 2.1 Stock ROM. Unfortunately I think I am still in the same boat. Until an exploit is found I am stuck where I am.
Am I off base or is there something I am missing?
If you go into the dev forum, there is a stickied thread with the faq on root 2.1 with how do identify if you are rooted or not.

Definitely not root. I just received the phone in the mail. There are a lot of posts in the past few hours with new phones with the 1.49 boot loader
The phone has never actually been rooted. Since you have 1.49, the one exploit we do have will not work to get you root access. Until a way to root the Eris is found, you my friend are unfortunately stuck.

Hi, i have unlocked my Evo 3D using HTCDEV.com. I was wondering if it will be ok and safe to do the ICS OTA update when it arrives? Also could someone please advise me on my next steps to root my Evo 3D so i can use custom roms etc. All i have managed to do is up to yet is unlock my handset using HTCDEV.com, but i am unsure what further steps i need to take to root my device as there are so many different view and topics on the subject and it all gets a little confusing as what to do next. My HBoot is 1.49.0018, and i really dont know what to do next, so could someone be so kind as to advice on what further steps are required.........Thank-you for any help offered.
You might already have done this but just to make sure.
Did you flash a recovery.img?
I wouldn't bother, there will undoubtedly be a pre-rooted, cwm flashable version available within a day of the update landing.

Don't know if it will update the hboot but I suggest you downgrade and s-off it, if there is any method available for gsm...
And to flash a ROM, you don't need to be rooted. Just flash a custom recovery.img like 4ext, twrp, cwm. Then flash any ROM that you like. Almost every ROM here comes with super user. So after flashing a custom ROM made by a Dev , you will be rooted. If you want to root your stock ROM and don't want to flash custom roms for now, just flash a custom recovery first, then go to recovery flash this zip if you want SuperSU by Chainfire----------> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
OR
this one if you want Superuser by ChainsDD---->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312971
The second one might not work...
@iTzLOLtrain......I haven't flashed a recovery.img as of yet because i am unsure of the software to use buddy. If you could advise on which software you think is the best then i am more than keen to have a shot. This is my first time ever with android and i am really scared of 'bricking' my handset. I was under the impression if i wanted to install custom roms that i would have to root my device first?
@mnomaanw......Hi bud, i have tried the links you posted but i just get a 404 page not found error.........Cheers

Oops sorry....should work now.
Next step is to flash a custom recovery like 4ext which has no issues at all and then flash your su file this is how you obtain root access after this you flash a custom Rom

Ahhhh, I remember my first time. Do an awful lot of searching and reading. Once you feel like you can't get anymore info on a subject, then try it. You may have an issue, which most people on here will help u with when ask. If you came from that fruity company, you should be very happy with what Mr. Android and his developers can do.
Hello all
Had a crack at trying to root my legend about 4 months ago. Got stuck at crackin.bat and gave up.
But I think it's time. I've got Froyo 2.2 with HBOOT 1.01, are there some specific instructions for my device that won't confuse me
And I love HTC Sense too much to go with plain Cyanogenmod, is there any ICS based roms with sense? Something like how the HTC One V looks?
in the meantime htc has provided an official way to unlock the legend's bootloader - you can just follow the instructions here: http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ or have a lokk into the corresponding forum thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498298
the development of ics for our legend is still in the early stages, so at the moment you certainly won't find a rom which bundles ics & sense. however in the development section there are gingerbread based roms, that come with sense...

There are quite a few ways to roots your legend now since Boot unlocker has been released for the Legend.
1. Downgrade and etc.: Never used this method but it was the first guide I read and it confused the heck out of me.
2. HBOOT 1.01 root: The way I used to unlock my HTC Legend very easy and comprehensive guide in this forum, CHECK IT OUT HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223950
3. HBOOT unlocker (Haven't used this guide before)
From the title of your thread I sense that you had trouble downgrading. No problems! Just use the 2nd or 3rd method listed above, the first guide was only used because the Legend still had eclair and the 2nd or 3rd method wasn;t released yet.
ICS rom is still in Beta version but can be used (Nearly fully functioning ). Check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562595
Best of luck!

Many of the links to the required programs/files in that guide no longer work.
I pretty much rooted mine the way it's described in the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596635
Look in the Legend Android Development for ROM's with Sense
If you need further help, don't hesitate to ask
Yeah, just use the boot unlocker method since its the newest method.

Wow that's exciting. Didn't know that HTC released their own method.
I go to the site and click Begin Unlocking Bootloader but nothing happens
Have you made/signed into a HTCDev account?

I used ogo2's gingerbread rom for quite a while, never saw that issue. If you look through the thread in the dev section for the rom, I have seen others with this issue too, but I don't know the cause or solution.

I have a rooted mobilicity htc amaze running under the energy rom march 2012 version which is gingerbread. I want to update to the latest version of this rom, or any other ICS rom that is rooted. how would I go about doing this? I followed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1712858
however the link to the download was taken down, help would be appreciated.
First of all I'm sorry to have to say this.. but this is the 50th thread about how to upgrade to ICS. I don't care which carrier you are on the process is all the same. The file may be different but the actions are all the same. So if you search and read the other "Hold My Hand" threads you should be able to find your answer.
Like I said.. I'm sorry I chose your thread to pick on but some people need to search and read.

thats kinda wrong.. first they need to go back to stock gingerbread and then upgrade the rom to official ice, then root it and flash any ice/jellybean rom they want... but yeah.. it would be easier if you were s-off to flash any stock RUU for any carrier regardless
Hey Guys,
I have an unbranded HTC Amaze(Asian Version), s-on and rooted, recently I tried to flash Cyanogenmod 10 on it using 4ext, it flashed fine, but after starting, it kept hanging and rebooting, so I researched a bit and found out that my firmware is still the old gingerbread one, and to upgrade it I would have to turn s-off first.
However, I found a stock T-mobile Gingerbread ROM ,and flashed it its working fine now, and the it also allows me to update the system to ICS officially using the update available.
But my question is that if I update my android officially using the ICS update available, would it update my kernel as well? So I may be able to flash custom ICS roms on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thnx
Yes, it'll upgrade the software, kernel, and radio. But it's not recommended to do.
There's a link to the guide to upgrade the Asian amaze in the OP of the viper thread.
Follow the guide and read it thoroughly first.
Afaik you should use the guide and it'll then you'll be good!
