haha I wouldn't know the first thing to do with an S-OFF phone besides use it as an unlocked device
but na I didn't buy it.
we will have S-OFF once root comes.

I am curious though - Is it possible to copy the unlocked bootloader from an s-off phone, bundle it into a fake OTA and then force an update to make an s-off phone? Would that work, or can an update.zip OTA package be installed only from the /Cache directory?
I might have another unlock test phone for sale. Somebody was going to buy my second phone but it looks like he is backing down due to money. This phone is unlock and was used for OTA testing. I'll give my friend until the end of this weekend and if he does not have the cash, it'll be up for sale too.

Finally realized that.
That's what XDA is for right? I think a few devs are moving from Evo to Evo 3D, so there will probably be quite a few stable roms after the release.
As far as a bootloader, maybe someone will crack it? I only hope HTC and Sprint aren't going down that road.

Really??? I only thought that T-Mobile was the only one that did that (at least in Puerto Rico, T-Mobile lets you get any phone and split the total cost in 4 payments that get added to your next 4 billing statements). If Sprint does this, then this is a no-brainer.
Pre Ordered Last Night
Pre ordered my EVO 3D last night from the Best Buy on 23rd and 6th ave in NYC.
The store on 62nd and Broadway hadn't heard about it and were a bit ignorant (told me TMO Nexus S works on any carrier, including Sprint and Verizon. Argued it had GSM and CDMA radio in it...)
The pre order cost me $50, which they put onto a gift card and had me fill out a small paper with name and phone number which they entered into their system.
Also, they didn't check my current sprint account.
Hope that helps anybody curious about the process. Very quick and simple when the store is aware of the EVO 3D pre order!

Any suggestions on how to sell it, i have bestbuy buyback, but that wont really be enough for me to get the insurance again with the note 2,(Im planning on using my sister upgrade, she cant afford to buy a new phone anyways. If you're looking for someone to tell you you're making the right decision and you should go for it, then you should probably head over to the Note 2 section. You might get lucky here with some impatient people, but no one can make your mind up for you. If you want to sell your phone, there are hundreds of ways to do it, it just depends on what you're looking to get for it. Craigslist, eBay, hell, even the Market on this site. Please don't look for someone to make your mind up for you. Base your decision on actually using the two devices. When it comes out in the store, go there and play with it. They're on display for that reason. If you find that it's what you want, do what you need to in order to get your EVO sold, and then buy the Note 2.
Your best bet to sell it on ebay. Selling it local on Craigslist won't net you much. I've bought 2 EVO's on Craigslist for $200. And as newer phones like iphone 5 and Note 2 comes out, it only pushes the EVO's retail value even more down.

If you get it more recently then it will probably have the update. Most of them that people are getting more recent have it. You would be lucky if it didn't.

I got mine on Monday activated at the store, a few minutes later after the sales rep handed it to me it prompted me to update. Luckily I came to this forum before going to the store. Got home supercid, rooted, then s-offed. I Upgraded from a Tegra 3 One X and I'm loving this beauty
I got one last Saturday and it prompted me for the update a few minutes after activating it. I had to exchange it this past Thursday (screen cracked at corner of top speaker) and the new one prompted me as well.

I got one yesterday from Best Buy. After coming home and doing 3 ESN swaps I finally had my phone where I wanted it. I'm on an unlimited account and "upgraded" my son to the DNA with internet then swapped it to my Thunderbolt then put my sons txt/call only phone back to his line.
It came PRE OTA but like a dumb arse I hit the button to do the OTA. Oh well. I'll have to wait to unlock the bootloader and root it.

YOu can also try going to swappa.com and most people are selling them already with root and s off. Doesn't hurt to go that direction.

I got the DNA yesterday. I'm a HTC whore going back to the 8525. Any phones I have tried other than HTC and I alwys seem to fidn reason to ditch them.
The DNA however may change my feelings. Not because of HTC but because of Big red. The limited storage which create the need for cloud service is also another reason. A of now most cloud service is free but as more and more people move to the service free will be long forgotten in the cry of
"To much cost to host so manu people" and then boom, the fee's will start.
Yea, I'm on a rant, and i assume you wanna know about the OTA. Got my dna yesterday, I am coming from a Thunderbolt. My phone did not have the ota however every 5min or so a friendly reminder to DL the update keeps popping up.
I did get root (if ya wanna call it that) via HTC dev by using the "other supported device" option in the links. The email was very fast and the token worked. I just now got a stock rom DL and am going to load onto the phone.
If you get your dna in the next few weeks you may be ok but as the supply of phones drops new phones will have the OTA in place. Also keep in mind this applie to insurance as well. IE you drop your phone call INS to get new one.
You may wish to look at other options if you wish fro true freedom in a phone. Soff on this phone is a ways away.

There will always be free cloud storage options, drive, dropbox, box, mega, etc. None of those are going anywhere anytime soon.

Should I return my phone and get one tat can be easily rooted or should I stay steady in hopes of a new root method, well s-off. Or if I can should I try to put in a insurance claim and get a DNA that maybe hasn't had an ota update?

Good luck with insurance. Got 2 - new in box not referb - DNAs after much *****ing n threatening to bounce within my 2 weeks. And one from Amazon. No luck. The kernel source will be out eventually. Trust me this will be rooted n s-off. Its time at this point. Our devs rock. Without the source, cracking this is like figuring out what makes potato chips when all you have to go on is a finished product. Sometimes u get lucky

Since I'm impatient I went ahead and pulled the trigger on buying the S-OFF service from Mobile Tech Videos. I currently have 2.04 on my DNA, and it appears that the outlook for S-Off on the new firmware is dark. I will update this thread as the process progresses in case anyone wants to use this same service.

Yeah, I'm coming from the galaxy nexus, so I'm having flash withdrawal :silly: Knowing my luck a s-off method will be released the day after I mail it out.
From what I've been reading I don't think that'll happen. Just exit the pit of despair and jtag it.
So I'm about to sound really stupid, but I haven't used a HTC phone in years. Once I have S-OFF, will I need to downgrade to 1.x then root and flash recovery or do I just jump right in? Thanks for the help in advance.

good to hear was my only worry. Think I may wait till the end of july to see if anything happens (will be the most convenient time to not have my phone with me) and then go for the jtag if other people have had positive experiences with the service
So I just mailed out my phone. It's flat rate and should get there by friday. Here's hoping everything goes well and maybe getting it back by friday of next week.

From mobiltech? Can you tell us the condition and round trip time?
Emailed Mobiletech. Asking for a discount for a limited time for us. I know that $45 just is too much to make me send off my phone when i have a perfectly good working phone. If i had a bricked phone, it would be worth it. If we can get a $30 rate, i would do it. That's barely the cost of my case. S-off would be nice since there is no guarantee we will ever get that. We may get root, but would be limited without S-OFF.

Well its in great condition and I live in texas and their ship to address is there too so it took a day for them to get my phone and I got it back in like 3 days. Great service definitely recommend to anyone that wants to give it a try
